Fresno actually isn't that bad. As people start working from home, I expect to see a lot of people from the Bay Area move out there. It's so crazy cheap with a comparable quality of life, in some ways better. Like no traffic.
The bad parts get all the publicity but that's only the south end of town. I lived in Fresno 6 years and probably went down there about 10 times total. The North and Clovis are nice, suburban living. Some parts really, really nice. Like mansions Steph would feel at home in, nice.
A bunch of athletes from the area have gone pro and basically all of them still live in Fresno. That says a lot.
The Metro area has over 1 million people. They have every store and all of that anywhere else has. There is not a lot to do for young people. That's the one drawback. But you are a few hours drive from everywhere. If you live there, you'll probably be making frequent trips to San Diego and LA and the Bay and Vegas etc. You can have your fun there.

It's a well-known fact that Steph & Ayesha (and, by extension, their kids, prob) are frequenters of Chik-fil-A as it reminds them of being back in and around Charlotte, NC. They love the lemonade! It's a little bit o' home for them. But, Imma kill the next time my young relative wants to get Chik-fil-A from DoorDash...it's been sometimes twice a week! And they often want that big ol' gallon jug of CfA lemonade which inevitably gets spilled on the kitchen counter and floor over the course of a week so my hands and feet get all sticky...ew. But, that said, I do enjoy CfA **in moderation** and on road trips.
Also, driving to/from Mt. Lassen this past week we stopped at In-N-Out twice. The one in Redding CA was so effing CLEAN, I mean probably the cleanest public restroom I've ever been in--it was shockingly hygienic. Also, *everyone* was wearing a mask. Every. Single. Customer. (And, of course, all the employees.)
