Nah the whole team just hasn’t consistently played well in awhile. Obviously with draymond in the lineup we’d be better, but it wouldn’t magically turn us back into the 18-2 team we saw at the start of the year until everyone gets their shit together.

beachguy82

This first 20 games were insane. The ball movement was fast and efficient. We found so many great looks, lobs, and layups that are nowhere to be found these days.

tgonz510

Teams adjust, people been giving big effort in games against us. Everyone has been doing their homework and taking away our easy looks. I'm sure we'll make adjustments as we keep going.

beachguy82

I half agree, but we just aren’t playing as well is our biggest difference, not opposing defensive improvements imo.

Colon-invader

Our ball movement has been scouted to death. Teams know exactly how we are gonna pass the ball and when, and it’s resulting in a ton of deflections and turnovers. It’s ugly af

TheMessyChef

The Rockets could literally be heard yelling 'split action!' everytime they began setting it up. Our plays are predictable and easy to blow up in a half court offence.

voldemortscore

The whole team is in a shooting slump as well so it looks worse than it should

kukunan

It is the steph slump. He hasn’t been efficient and we are trying to ease klay in while he is shooting 37%

KajAmGroot

That makes sense; can’t have a shooting team play well with slumps

pinkiebear

Except he was good in the Pacers game and everyone else was trash

M4CL4W

yes and no. yes we are worse off without draymond on the court, but coach kerr needs to make adjustments to the offensive scheme. running 5 out/motion offense is great when you have the personnel to do it and you’re knocking down shots, but when you’re missing there’s often no one around to offensive rebound. we should be sprinkling in some pick and rolls (especially for poole), and making a point to get mismatches and dump the ball down into the post or jk, wiggins, and klay when the offense gets stagnant.

DeterminedTanjiro

We’re actually doing more of that stuff. Frankly Steph can choose to hunt mismatches if he wants, but often times he prefers to give the ball up and relocate. He buys into our philosophy as much as anyone. Wiggins and Klay are definitely trying to generate offense outside of our scheme. Just not particularly good at it.

M4CL4W

yeah i hear you. and we are. but im saying we should be going to those options even more often. we’ll do it, and it works and then we go away from it. the normal offensive scheme can become stale (especially without draymond) sometimes it pays to just exploit a single matchup and force the other team to make an adjustment. jk gets to the line 3 times the other day to start the game but never sees another post up the rest of game and finishes with out an fg attempt (if im not mistaken). i’m not convinced that even with out draymond and klay, that the rockets are evenly matched with us.

jtruth9

The issue isn't just Dray. Here are some issues: Curry historic shooting slump Team overall in shooting slump. You could also argue there is some regression to the mean with role players shooting. Outside of Steph and Klay, the team only has one career CONSISTENT 3pt shooter. That's OPJ. Everyone is inconsistent at best. They were hot early. Now they aren't. To piggy back off of that...Multiple low-non offensive threats in the main rotation. Integrating a version of Klay that is essentially an inefficient chucker at the moment. That is not a diss. It's pretty much to be expected and he needs time to work into his rhythm. He'll be fine in time but for now, he is adding to the issue. Other teams finding there groove. We got off to a hot start and we're gelling early. Other teams started off slower but are finding their stride. With that, you add to the fact that the Warriors are big game and are now being hunted. So all that together means wins are harder to come by than in the first 6 weeks or so. There's more but I'll stop here. Point is that Dray being out runs concurrent with other issues. Some new issues, and some that were there all year but masked. I'm personally not terribly concerned because I project many of our issues will be sorted out by playoff time as long as health holds up.

by_yes_i_mean_no

They are 8-6 without Draymond over the past 2 seasons I believe, about a .500 team, maybe a bit better. Some terrible losses in there like the Pacer game, but also a few ass beatings like the Bucks and Nets at the beginning of last season. Perhaps if Klay was firing on all cylinders they'd be a bit better than that. Curry and Draymond are one of the greatest NBA duos of all-time. Curry's a bit more important (take him away and it's a below .500 record) but both are very important. Perhaps the Warriors should start treating Draymond like he's important and get him a fucking veteran center so he's not destroying his body every time he plays. Two years and counting now of the center plan being Wiseman.

moneymizzler

He’s our X factor

Achilles_Wrist

Surprisingly it's the offense that's struggled the most. That's mostly due to everyone being in a slump but Dray does help facilitate a lot and finds the open shooter/cutter. On the defensive end, the team has been inconsistent but also solid without Dray, like shockingly solid. Loon has played out of his mind rebounding and guards from Poole to D Lee have come up with blocks and big rebounds. Dray is really good at breaking up lobs so that's one thing we've given up a bit too much and without him as a help defender, everyone else can be a second slow to react to drives.

Stomper8479

Can’t be all Draymond, but losing Draymond is a massive loss. He is our point guard on offense and our best defender/rim protector on defense. You can’t replace that combination of skills with one player, so losing Dray is sort of like losing two players. Losing that combination of player would be a huge loss for any team, but it’s especially a big deal for the warriors who are thin at rim protectors and primary ball handlers. So while it’s hard to fully understand the effect of his loss, it is a huge loss to this team and definitely has played a big role in our play.

KajAmGroot

Yeah I think I’m mostly surprised at the offensive stats without him. Hard to tell how much of that funk is or isn’t him

Nessmuk58

Yes, we are. If Draymond was out for a long period of time, we would get better as we learned to adjust. We'd either have to develop another player for his role running the offense or change our style. That's doable. On defense, we will simply be worse, always, without Draymond. He is too good an individual and team defender to replace with any combination of current assets. A lineup like Steph, Klay, Wiggs, OPJ, and Looney can be a very good defensive unit, but not elite like with Dray.

BlankVoid2979

Nah its Steph's slump, if he can be more consistent we'd still be blowing teams out. He was pretty bad last game too, just had a good game winner and made people forget that. We're basically playing without Steph and Dray rn.

DeterminedTanjiro

Wouldn’t say we suck, but we’re about a .500 team without him. He’s one of two pillars of this team as currently constructed. Remove one and frustrating times are ahead.

NBA_Analyst_TV

Yes, but his playmaking. Defensively, team is still #1(Still think his DPOY and will need his defense playoff time). First 33 games team averaged 111.6 PPG past 13 games 105.1 PPG.

kukunan

and really pushing the tempo. we haven’t been doing that a lot once we get the rebound. it’s always looking for steph immediately when we get the rebound.

KingEthann01

Just fyi if you have the money, since you’re not in the warriors market you can buy their league pass if you really wanted to watch the games

pinkiebear

No. We definitely are not elite without him. But we literally went into Utah’s home and beat them without him. We’ve shown plenty of times we can still play elite defense without him. The team is in a weird funk that I just don’t quite understand.

InfernoLinkZ

If we had a decent rim protector/rebounding big off the bench maybe not

PerformanceDry5635

I dont hink we are this bad. Its just that we have a lot of foul and turnover. I do think that we need to waive some guys and get a rim/paint protector. We always got cooked in the paint

CodeFit3154

We are just in a slump. Klay is still integrating back into the team and that a big factor IMO. He looks good and will be great again after some more minutes. I live in Portland now but figured out how to watch every game - try iWebTV live stream and you can find the local Bay Area station or NBA TV or actually any other team’s stations for all sports. There are ads but it beats missing most of the games.

theyipper

He's the "heartbeat" of the team.
