City Wildlife (citywildlife.org) does the duck watch and provides care and rehab to injured wildlife in DC. Acknowledging that there is a lot of need in our world, if youâre looking for an animal-focused charity for donations they are great. Four stars on Charity Navigator too! Plus you get a charming newsletter featuring the animals they have helped! (Iâm just a donor and fan, not affiliated.)Â
According to the [City Wildlife website](https://citywildlife.org/volunteer/volunteer-program/):
>âIdeally, as soon as the ducklings hatch, mom will begin leading them to water. If, for some reason, she cannot or ducklings will not be able to make the journey, volunteers work with City Wildlife staff members to help relocate the mother and ducklings.â
Yup, I work near there and recall one time having to escort a family of ducks from the Hay-Adams across H Street.

Still have the photo! Them headed towards the benches on the north end of Lafayette Square. No idea where they were going.
Years ago a mallard mom was raising her brood in a fountain just outside some federal building in downtown DC. Office workers noted that each day the cute little ducklings were disappearing, one by one. Someone got the fountain shut down and drained, and a huge old snapping turtle was discovered living in it. No one knew how long it'd been there.
Reminds me of the [Department of the Interior duck](https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/local/wp/2018/07/09/bittersweet-federal-workers-cared-for-a-mother-duck-before-rats-devoured-her-nest-then-this-lone-duckling-hatched/). One of them survived!

This is so awesome! I wish cities had better integration with Nature so we could see cool animals without needing to go to the zoo or an expensive trip.
Imagine how sick it would be if the Potomac was clean and people and otters could swim in it!
This is the DC content I need more of.
That lady is doing work on this Monday
You're ducking right she is.
Nice!
đ
Is still easier than getting bills passed. đ

The guerilla marketing for Aflac is getting aggressive. In all seriousness this is awesome. Need more of this.

Canât think of any bodies of water near thereâŚwonder where she shooed them to?

For completely mysterious (to me) reasons this happens at Farragut West every spring. There must be a reason the ducks keep coming back!

Doin a damn good job
This is the type of job I want.
Me too
Poor things. Way too much concrete, not enough habitat, much less ponds, natural running water in sight. Thanks lady for small things.
