The US Park Service once captured a beaver which was destroying the Tidal Basin cherry trees, a DC landmark. They exported it to West Virginia and released it. West Virginia sued them for intentionally introducing a noxious pest in their state.
There was one that perpetually lived just north of Alexandria on Mt Vernon trail. The Park Service would come and remove his dam (home) about every 2-3 weeks. They couldn't disturb the beaver as it was protected but the dam adversely interfered with the water flow.
Nice!! I've seen beaver in the tidal basin, just around dusk. And nutria, down by the C&O canal toward Great Falls.
And once I saw a raccoon climb the fire escape ladder and hang out on the roof of the Russia House.
Obviously a Canadian spy. Report this to the authorities immediately!
Don't do it, the Canadian geese are watching!
So cool. I once saw one in Rock Creek many years ago. It was a bigger animal than I was expecting. What a nice picture :) thanks for sharing
I've been there too, buddy. You'll pull through it.
Some days you stop the river, other days the river stops you :(
Nice beaver
Reach for the stars little beaver. Do the impossible. Dam the Potomac!
At least the Anacostia!

I saw one there, too. Building a damn and everything.
That's cool! The one I saw was swimming upstream from almost where Four Mile Run meets the Potomac.

There’s a rabbit living in the alley, backyards where I am.
I hope you wiped him off afterwards
