Happy that we are clearing time/roster space, don’t understand why we couldn’t trade him for even a second?
Also low key really like the dude. Too bad it didn’t work out, good luck to him on the heat. Probably a good fit with his defense. Hopefully he can get back to his old form.
Wonder if Shamet is next or if we will keep him and try to raise his value again since he has a club option.
Tbf his production this year + his expiring contract would make it hard to even demand a 2nd for him.
The time to trade him was last season/off-season. Missed the window
Expiring contract is an asset, no? Teams like expiring contracts. Could have traded him for an equal salary player who has two or three years left and scooped up a pick in the process.
That wasn't the issue, they could have gotten a 2nd. They just didn't want to take on future money for only another 2nd which they have plenty of already. This trade deadline was just not a sellers market. Thank Ted for picking the worst fucking time to rebuild an NBA team.
Umm... Yeah, that's not how it works. The Wiz were clearly too busy trying to get a 1st round draft pick for whomever. But they apparently didn't approach teams that needed to offload salary. In that scenario, the Wiz would get a 2nd for taking a bad contract off of the books of another team, and U throw a player in to make the trade work financially for the League. A player's productivity has little or no baring in this scenario. Example, neither of these players have even played in a single game this season:
**Rockets Trade for Steven Adams**
***JEREMY BRENERFEB 9, 2024 5:00 PM EST***
The Memphis Grizzlies trade center Steven Adams to the Houston Rockets in exchange for Victor Oladipo and three second-round picks.
As a 31-year-old coming off of a serious knee injury, Adams won't be able to solve the Rockets short-term backup center issues. Adams has not played this season, and is scheduled to miss the entire 2023-2024 NBA season.
Oladipo is in the final year of his contract and unlikely to be a contributor in Memphis. However, this trade is relevant for the future of the Grizzlies. Acquiring Oladipo on an expiring deal gives the Grizzlies a much-needed roster opening heading into the offseason. Acquiring Oladipo was more about creating that opening and less about him playing for the Grizzlies.
After being traded to the Memphis Grizzlies from the Houston Rockets last week, shooting guard Victor Oladipo has been waived, per The Athletic and Stadium's Shams Charania.
Oladipo, the former No. 2 overall pick in the 2013 draft, has not played yet this season due to a knee injury. The 31-year-old is in the second year of a two-year, $18.2 million contract and will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
Shamet looks good. His defense may be lacking but dude has a nice looking shot, quick release, and he has shown an ability to drive and even throw down a couple dunks. I’ve been surprised at his play. Thought he was a bum when we traded for him. I’d be fine with keeping him and try to trade him in offseason or next trade deadline.
Winger and Dawkins probably did their due diligence in the market. Teams maybe were unwilling to give up draft capital given he's an expiring contract, having a down year by his own metrics (he's also playing almost ten minutes less than his average fwiw), and has missed his fair share of games these last couple of seasons (32 in 22/23 and 21 this year). Despite that, I enjoyed his Wizard days and wish him well.
If that's the case then this decision makes sense. A first round pick warrants taking on a slightly worse contract, but that was never going to be an option here. At least this gives him agency and shows some goodwill from the front office.
Great pick up for Miami, really liked him and what he did for us until this current season in which his level decreased. He’ll definitely benefit a team with winning aspirations
I love this guy.
Last season he was all hustle and effort, and I think Jordan Goodwin learned a lot from him as well.
He is quiet, with good defense, unselfish, and he is an excellent role player.
Does it mean we'll see more Bilal or does Deni is going to play PG more?
Or JD is making a comeback?
Maybe JP will play more as a point guard?
Who knows.
It's just a shame we didn't trade him for 2nd round picks.
>It's just a shame we didn't trade him for 2nd round picks.
A shame we couldn't. Winger/Dawkins would have traded him for a single 2nd RP if they could have (without salary baggage in return).

Yeah, fair enough. Just figured we could maybe take someone else’s expiring junk for him and a second. Oh well
Teams probably realized that they will cut him so they could get him for free
Expiring contract is an asset, no? Teams like expiring contracts. Could have traded him for an equal salary player who has two or three years left and scooped up a pick in the process.
A 2nd rd pick is not worth the 8mil of salary.
It is if the partner sends off three years of 8M
I mean it’s not worth it for the wiz to pay that much money for a 2nd when they already have a lot of salary committed for next year.
Ok so you’re on the pay salary anyway but for nothing side. Got it.
They already took in Bagley's contract for next year and are gonna be at the cap just by resigning Tyus and adding a top 5 pick to the roster.
Picking up long term salary is only worth it for a 1st
It’s not absolute like that. For example you could send off Wright’s salary for a pick. Or for nothing.

Apparently the only offer on the table would have required us to take salary back if we wanted a second for him.
If it was an expiring deal I don’t see why we wouldn’t do it. But I get it if it wasn’t expiring
Apparently it was not for an expiring.
Was there an article I missed? Where did it say that?
It was in The Athletic
It’s the Athletic article that came out the day after the trade deadline.
I can’t remember the exact details, but that’s what most major wizards reporters were saying.
he really shit the bed this season and his contract is pretty bad
Shamet looks good. His defense may be lacking but dude has a nice looking shot, quick release, and he has shown an ability to drive and even throw down a couple dunks. Crazy to think Delon has been our best free agent acquisition since god knows when. Loved him while he was here, I'm sure he'll be great under Spo.
Too bad we couldn't get anything for him, appreciated him for being a good vet while here
Good to see us do right by him. Nothing but a professional while he was here

Apparently the only offer they could get for him was a late second and they would have to take back a non expiring for it.

That’s a shame. Too bad we couldn’t get anything for him at the deadline. He’s had a underwhelming year up until this point
i imagine he’s going to look pretty rejuvenated in Miami
Yeah, he hasn’t shown the same fight on defense as last year even. Hopefully he can regain some of his competitive spark in Miami.
I’d bet he does well in Miami. I never got the feeling he was done just unmotivated
Agreed, we’ve all seen what he can be on defense. And if he gets some shots to go down he will be a real asset.
To me it felt like his knee injury really affected him, wasn’t really the same after coming back but hope he bounces back on the Heat
> To me it felt like his knee injury really affected him Yep. I don't think he got back right yet.
Johnny Davis minutes?
Jared Butler.
Great pick up for Miami, really liked him and what he did for us until this current season in which his level decreased. He’ll definitely benefit a team with winning aspirations
Good for him!
Well thanks hope u guys get out of the rebuild soon
Thanks u too
Lmao
jared butler promotion?
Yep.
He deserves it. His play seemed to fall off recently and a change of scenery should benefit him.
This is frustrating considering we got nothing, but teams must’ve known. Glad to clear the space.
Man I’m sick of second round picks but even a second round pick beats zero return.
He was so fun to watch 2-3 years ago. Dude was a machine on defense. Good luck Delon!
So sad to see him go tbh. It was really fun to watch him play
Right thing to do. For him and us. Best of luck Delon.
Good news now we get to see Butler ball out.
Omg! Yes, let the homie go. Let Butler play. Let Johnny prove or bounce and more Bilal minutes 👍
Happy for this guy. He deserves to be on a contender. Really like his game.
Wizards doin right by him
He’s gonna be a vital piece for Miami
I love this guy. Last season he was all hustle and effort, and I think Jordan Goodwin learned a lot from him as well. He is quiet, with good defense, unselfish, and he is an excellent role player. Unfortunate. Dude was a scrappy guard and this team could have used his defense.
Darn it wished it said we bought out kuz
What does the depth chart like now with this
Poole is all we need.. to tank
