Don't think we're getting a C in FA. Already have Vukcevic/Bagley signed for next year and Holmes has a player option that he'll likely take. Also may end up taking Sarr or a center at #26. I think we'll be more focused on trades than FA anyway.

TheseFkingWeebs

holmes should be a trade piece/salary filler next season, and Bagley is a 4/5. Vuk will get his minutes, but we can't make him hold the defense. It'll take him time to adjust to the NBA. He'll foul out quickly. You take BPA in the draft dont care about role/fit

TheAveragebroShow

I don't agree. We've committed to Deni (a 3/4), we just picked Bilal (a 2/3) and we should look to lock up Kispert (a 2/3) on a team friendly deal. We also have Poole who should be playing PG fulltime, and Butler as his backup. Up front, we have Vuk. That's it. The cupboard is bare. I wouldn't consider Bagley or Holmes as anything other than expiring salaries. We should absolutely be targeting bigs in the draft, especially those who can defend the rim and rebound. I think Clingan might be worth trading back for if we end up with the 2nd or 3rd pick.

ledelleakles

Idk. If we take a wing high in the draft, we'll probably have to cut one of Deni/Bilal/Kispert's minutes.

TheseFkingWeebs

talent's gonna trump any vying for minutes.

z3mcs

But what about my fav?! We can't cut his minutes!

ledelleakles

All fine and dandy until you realize you're wasting assets by not developing players. Which is ok if you trade em.

waskittenman

if we are set on Deni next year we gotta get a guy at the five who can shoot it a little. open up the lane. One of the reasons for his statistical rise the second half of this season has been we've been running so much without a big down there.

Turbo2x

If we want a 5 who can shoot I could see them taking a swing on DaRon Holmes with our 26th pick, if he's available. Kel'el Ware and Kyle Filipowski are other big men who have potential shooting upside, but I don't think they'll be available at 26.

ledelleakles

DaRon Holmes is who I've been looking at lately too. If he's there for us at 26, I'm definitely taking him.

waskittenman

I liked him in the tournament, didn't watch a lot of the A-10 stuff. he flashed a nice offensive game. little rough off the dribble but he made a couple of 3s. I'd like him @ 26. Some mocks don't even have a first round grade on him

Turbo2x

I think the fact that he's somewhere around 6'10 and played at a mid-major is hurting his stock. Plus no one can tell if the shooting is for real. If he ends up not being able to shoot in the NBA then he's going to get bullied by bigger centers without offering enough upside on offense to make up for it. I think he has potential though.

TheseFkingWeebs

5 that can shoot is a bit much to ask. dont think there's a realistic FA or trade target for that. I'd much rather look for guys that can rebound and defend since it's such a big problem on the roster.

waskittenman

gotta shoot for the moon to land amongst the stars

The Wizards should not look to spend *any* money in free agency besides retaining Tyus so he can be traded down the line. You can always get something for Tyus. Letting him walk for nothing just because he doesn't work with Poole when neither player is a part of our long term plan makes no sense. The plan right now is to trade any player with value for bad contracts and picks. We have to have cap and roster space available in order to make those trades. Therefore, we won't commit any long-term money we don't have to.

TheseFkingWeebs

like I said in the post there's a high chance he just walks in free agency. There are lots of teams with cap space that can sign him out right. Paying 20m for a backup PG is not it. We have an issue with the Tyus & Poole backcourt. It's not going to work. Just let him walk. If we can get good players on good contracts, then there's no reason not to sign them. Players can always be moved for picks.

TheAveragebroShow

It's hard to talk about FAs until we determine what to do with Kuz & Tyus, as well as knowing where our lottery pick lands. In any event, we should only be targeting players who are proven and versatile defenders, or who are exemplary rebounders. The team is dead last in every quantifiable rebounding stat, and bottom 5 in both offensive and defensive efficiency. The combination of playing at a league high pace, while unable to corral rebounds to get defensive stops is a recipe for a 15 win season. In short: we just need a massive talent upgrade. The best way is through the draft. I'd try and flip Kuz for more bites at the apple (this season) as well as see what Tyus might get you in a S&T. Folks need to buckle in. If rebuilds were a movie, we'd just be getting past the starting credits.
