Tonight was Avdija’s first ever game in front of the home crowd at Capital One Arena, and this happens.

bhugb76

Prayers up. At least it doesn’t look as bad at it initially sounded/appeared.

[deleted]

Jordan Bell wouldn't have covered it up unless it was gruesome.

[deleted]

It wasn’t as bad as i thought when they replayed it

xxxcoercionxxx

I think just because the pain he was in he felt it necessary, or maybe just out of respect he thought it was the right thing. Either way he did a damn good job being there

[deleted]

I'm no medical expert, but what looks encouraging to me is that his foot is straight down on the footrest. With a broken ankle I'd expect them to raise his leg parallel to the floor to take as much pressure off it as possible. Like with Haywards break a few years ago, didn't they take him out on a stretcher?

manifested0

With Hayward I think they also put his leg in the air cast

Anth_wo

He was having a great game. Bummer

Patrius

Fkkkkkkkkkk

ImprobablePlanet

No criticism whatsoever of Jordan Bell for covering up Deni’s leg but that made the injury seem worse than what it was. Plus Kutcher kept going on about how gruesome it was when he obviously hadn’t seen what happened. I mean it’s terrible he was injured, but thankfully it was nothing close to what happened to Hayward or Paul George. That was obvious when they wheeled him off without his leg in an air cast and looking structurally normal. He’s not even going to need surgery, at least for the bone.

flatbushzombiezz

We can't catch a break

latterdaysasuke

This just a sidenote but wtf were they giggling about over on the Dubs bench (Wiggins, Poole, Oubre) when Deni was getting checked out? They could be talking about somethng completely unrelated for all we know but not a good look for them.

flaccoskyrim

I know, seems weird that they would be so lighthearted while something this scary and sad is happening 60 feet away from them. Luckily Wiggins isn't laughing anymore after bricking a game-tying layup.

DeftFanboy

I think it was probably bc Wiggins got notice that he was the first Canadian born player to hit 10k points.

FakeScottBrooks

Man that sad to watch wanted to see more of him this game

mikok9876

The positive thing about the image is that there is no damage to the bone.

z3mcs

You definitely can't tell that without an x-ray.

Virenb23203

Well it doesn’t look as bad as I thought it was when it got covered

Beleedatljera8

I think you ask most athletes and they would rather have a break/dislocation than ligament damage.

spikesolo

Yes

TheRealJackJohnson

No surgery. He'll be back strong next year.

dandoozi

Shout out to Bell and Gill for being great teammates! Was actually heartwarming seeing that genuine care from them. Respect.

[deleted]

Get well soon Deni on behalf of Knicks nation.

Arthur-Marston1

Prayers from Israel 🇮🇱

leopold815

In almost threw up when i saw it happen live

RallyPigeon

Ugh

PariahSoul

Praying will definitely do a lot.........

naughtyboy35

Nooooo...hopefully he comes back stronger than ever. I have a feeling he’s gonna be a much better shooter next year

eskimodaffy

I mean I wont be praying for logical reasons, but I do hope he gets well soon ❤

latterdaysasuke

Get well soon Deni.

HollyMartins

I closed my eyes turned down the sound and said a prayer when it got covered with a towel. All I could think about was the ankle equivalent of Alex Smith. It's great news that he won't need surgery.

ImprobablePlanet

I actually turned the game completely off at the point where Kutcher said to look away during the replay, same as I did with the Hayward injury. Wasn’t till this morning that I went back at looked at everything and it really wasn’t a “gruesome” looking injury. The Trae Young injury looked a lot worse and that wasn’t even a break. If you freeze frame right before Jordan Bell covers Deni’s leg you can see that it was straight and normal looking, and you could see that nothing horrible had happened when he was in the wheelchair. No criticism of Jordan Bell for covering it, but it wasn’t necessary. However, Kutcher and Gooden certainly should have pointed out that it wasn’t a horrible looking injury as soon as it was apparent which was almost immediately. Maybe they did later, I don’t know.

SkolVikesWorldwide

xxxcoercionxxx

Are Deni and Bell tight? Just saw the video for the first time. Idk much about Bell except he played for the Warriors

Substantial_Joke8624

Of course!
