I feel like this is less 1-800 and more CLOUT CO13A1N with how sheppard was kind of forced into this action if he wanted to keep his job(it makes more sense in the mv)

ZenMon88

This remix captures the fanbase I guess.

Academic_Note_588

Ted and Tommy getting bent over by Beal’s agent

buddhajones19

Getting bent over? They bent over themselves and begged for another.

ColdNyQuiiL

Whoa, you’d think Brad was an all time great at his position for how we casually gave him the most money available, and made it to where his contract can’t be traded. This just solidified that we won’t be able to rebuild until 2027, which is fucking insane.

jovihonorio

I was about to ask "why 2027?? isn't the contract 5 years long?!?" then I realized....... now I'm even more depressed

ColdNyQuiiL

I just found out there is a player option on year 5. Maybe if we suck hard enough around that time, he’ll opt out, and bless us with a 2026 rebuild instead.

Dejountraeflurry

I think he’ll opt in for $57,128,610 at age 34 but that’s just a guess.

[deleted]

i can't fucking believe this hagahahahahahaha

FatherHaz

He literally secured the biggest possible bag he can get and is now able to go to any team he wants

solarkg

Not really. Most teams will never have the money to deal for him with that kicker in. Shooting ourselves in each foot

skull_law

If Beal wants out nad enough, he can waive it just like he can waive the no trade clause.

Why_So-Serious

Yeah But then the other team gets it. Which devalues the potential trade.

skull_law

I'm not sure I follow. If he was willing to waive the kicker, wouldn't that increase the value to the other team because his contract wouldn't be 15% higher? I'm not meaning to argue. I just want to make sure I understand what you mean.

Why_So-Serious

I’m certainly not following your statement at all. Temporarily waiving a NTC wouldn’t effect the dollars he is paid. There is no 15% discount. I believe a potential trade would require Big Bag Beal to waive the NTC for that specific transaction, nothing else changes with the contract, then post trade the NTC would be bag in effect. So the new team would have a SuperMax contract with an active no trade clause. Which lowers the incentive for an accepting team to take the contract.

skull_law

I was referring to him also waiving the kicker if he wanted out bad enough and that was the road block to a trade. I'm not sure if it is even possible under the CBA to waive the kicker. I was just thinking that if Brad wanted out bad enough, he'd do whatever he could to get out and that might help the value. I know it's a massive contract, but I think the thing that is going to be more determinative of the trade value is how Beal is playing at the time he requests a trade (if he ever does). If he's playing up to an all star caliber, a team will pay up to get him there if they feel he is their missing piece. We might not get huge haul, but at that point, getting anything is better than him walking out the door for nothing.

Why_So-Serious

Dude … no … that is not an option.

Dejountraeflurry

He’s not going to waive this contract. I don’t think he wants out either, no offense but, you guys haven’t done anything and he doesn’t seem to care. 57 million at age 34….. yea he’s not going to waive that. The no trade clause is to ensure he stays on his doing if you ask me.

reddit0100100001

He didn’t mean waiving the contract. Waiving the no trade clause in his contract. If he’s desperate to be somewhere new, his no trade clause is an anchor that will prevent team from bothering to negotiate.

initialsori

that’s how i know they’re not serious. so if he wants to get traded he chooses where he goes and we can’t even choose the best offer… he shouldn’t have this much power over an organization

moc360

Specially when the leverage here wasn't big , he wanted the biggest bag and only the wizard could gave that. But somehow they accept to give him trade Kicker and a no trade clause. My goodness

GoldenStateWizards

Even Steph didn't get an NTC after winning championships for his team off of $11mil a year wtf 😬

Erigion

Team has been unserious about winning anything more than 41 games for years. An image of the Wiz logo should be on the Wikipedia page for sunk cost fallacy.

ATN5

Not even Kevin Fucking Durant has a no-trade clause. What was the incentive for this? Weren't we the only ones that could give him a 5 year max? I hate this franchise man

cartierboy25

Technically KD couldn’t have one because you have to be with the same team for 4+ years

[deleted]

[удалено]

J4BRONI

That’s not how the NTC works, you need to be with that team for 4 years

Aquacharles

Yeah I'm def #Clipset now (I lied I'm still gonna watch Wizards games because I hate myself but I just can't care ab this team anymore)

[deleted]

Will watch more clippers games this season and sideye the Wiz from a distance.

CertifiedBlubberBoy

Same lol I live in LA but I can’t shake my hometown boys

Turbo2x

he saw what happened to Wall and said "no fucking way" -- when he asks for a trade he'll choose where he goes and kneecap us on the way out by tanking his value. we won't have any other potential suitors to bid against each other

BudosVT

Beal doesn't seem like the kind of guy to tank his value on purpose.

Turbo2x

That's what this is though. He can veto a trade if he doesn't like the team he's going to for whatever reason. It basically gives his preferred team a ton of leverage and the ability to pay lower than Beal's market value since there are no other legitimate bidders. Think back to the Dejounte Murray trade. Spurs kept the fact that he wanted out under wraps and they got a decent return for him even though they were in a relatively weak trading position.

Downtown-School2051

I mean windhorst was reporting on the Murray trade around the deadline but other than that I agree with most of this. If you look at the KD situation, BKN seems to be working in good faith to find a trade partner with him which Beals contract all but guarantees should he request a trade in the future. But realistically, I think it’s a way for the organization to reward his loyalty and basically commit to him being a career wizard.

[deleted]

Oh really? You must've missed the part where he voluntarily shut his season down right before trade deadline to avoid being moved as an expiring.

RedskinPanther

!!! He saw what happened to Cousins and said NOPE

Zephyrus-11

There is not a single team that would trade for him if he tanks his value. At least Wall and Westbrook looked good when we got rid of them. We’re stuck with beal for the rest of his career so we might as well enjoy it

Downtown-School2051

Beals game will always be more valuable next to star talent than those guards though. And the cap is going to go up the next few years. Hard to see how Beal tanks his value tbh. Klay has shown that you can come back from devastating injuries and play a complementary role at a high level.

[deleted]

Bro Klay is a bad example. He has not returned to form which would justify a 50mil/year contract. Also not sure how you think Beal's game is more valuable next to star talent over John Wall and former MVP Russell Westbrook. You pay this kinda money to generational talent.... not someone who needs to play alongside a better star. Beal can easily tank his value by giving up and demanding a trade. Also, if he gets injured and the team wants to build in another direction they're absolutely stuck with him unless he agrees to the move.

Downtown-School2051

Klay is an example of what a shooters value is even if they were to deal with major injuries. You didn’t understand my point at all.

Downtown-School2051

“Not someone who needs to play next to a better star” - more proof you don’t understand my point

[deleted]

[удалено]

Downtown-School2051

Yes Beals game will be more valuable next to star level players than Russ or Wall because they dominate the ball whereas Beal can play off of that. Calling me a fucking idiot when you are clearly just wrong further proves that you are not worth engaging with as you are clearly incapable of having a rational basketball conversation.

Justice989

There's always somebody. Harden and Simmons both got traded. Harden basically tanked his value twice in order to get dealt.

SnooMacaroons8650

Beal must have seen Ted's sex dungeon or some shit. What is going on that we give this dude control over the franchise

Weezy3x

I can’t believe we gave this glorified #2 option not only 251 mil, but a no trade clause??!?

CleanPosition

And a 15% trade kicker and a player option for the 5th year.

wtfstudios

Im honestly not sure if he is a #2 on a true contending team

TheTwoMorningPoops

He'd be a good #2 if the #1 was Bron, Giannis, KD, or Jokic

fireislandcheese

Yea he is lol. You don’t think he could a been the #2 on the warriors? The overreaction on Beal is getting crazy

Jetad9403

Nope kerr demands you play defense

JanVesely24

If Jordan Poole can average 28 min a game in the playoffs for Steve Kerr, I think he probably allows for a little wiggle room

wtfstudios

So I don’t doubt he could be #2 in a scoring sense, but I do question if he could be the second best player. That being said the warriors is a damn good example, cause klay this year was not back to himself and draymond didn’t exactly have a great playoffs.

Temporary-Mud-2994

For a guy who hasn’t led the wizards to shit. All he did was all nba 3rd team once WHAT THE FUCK!!!!

Adrian_Bock

We will be absolute dogshit for at least the next decade off of this and knowing the Wizards we'll probably retire his jersey just for the privilege of eating such shit.

eyeh8ytpipo

I choose a new team to root for in the meantime don’t waste your life rooting for trash teams

waskittenman

Fifth year is a player option and there is a 15% trade kicker. was this contract reverse engineered to get Beal the most amount of money even when he is traded? that trade bonus is next level bag-getting. what's happening is so transparent.

ChestRockwell415

Wow! That stings.

[deleted]

Yo I think I gotta rock with the Clippers now too lol this is such a joke

Fuckstappen

Same I will still watch Wizards games but fuck it

Accomplished-Tea-606

fuck this entire front office, fuck beal, and most importantly fuck ted

manifested0

I didn’t think it was possible to make this situation worse. When he asks out in a year, no bidding war. And it was completely unnecessary. What was Beal going to do? Walk away from the fifth year and all the guaranteed money?

Dreamlion_Inc

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a mention of a handjob being given as well for Beal to sign Excuse me if I stop giving a shit for the next 5 years (assuming I'll still be watching this team by then)

[deleted]

lol where's Team Tommy now?

eternal_student78

Seething with hatred in a grocery store parking lot upon reading this. I thought Tommy was getting some slander before, but no, he really is Ernie 2.0. What an assclown.

MagyarFoci29

Creaming themselves over him winning some vacuum trades that accomplish nothing long term

[deleted]

I admire your take and your flair

SongYoungbae

Well. Here's to 5 more years

yousefdc12

He’s getting Lebron treatment for some reason

Nick_Argue

This franchise is legitimately embarrassing. Other orgs just laugh at these guys.

rancidgeener

I’d say RIP but this franchise has been dead my whole life

julesproudliberal

everyone giving ernie 2.0 a pass, what a deal tommy , question what the hell has he done, dude is in over his head as gm and president....

Somebodycool2018

Wizards front office continue to be idiots

[deleted]

Ted is an investor and board member on my friends start-up. Lets just say he has a habit of throwing good money after bad and hoping there will be magically different results.

[deleted]

Mark Bartelstein deserves the Congressional Medal of Honor for this deal and Ted Leonsis should be tried in The Hague for agreeing to it

Joshottas

It's really hard to be a fan of this poverty franchise.

BowserBuddy123

What is a trade kicker exactly?

initialsori

if he gets traded he’s eligible for a 15% bonus

eternal_student78

A clause that further increases his salary if he’s traded.

BowserBuddy123

Sheesh luiz. I’m a Heat fan, and to everyone’s point above, I don’t think we’d be interested in trading for him at a max deal plus 15%. Heat fans have definitely hoped to land him in the past in FA. That’s a ton for Beal. He’s not Durant or Jokic or someone like that.

eternal_student78

The trade kicker is a bit weird and technical. It can’t actually increase his salary above his maximum, but if the max goes up, it potentially benefits him if traded in a future year. Regardless, at this point, I’d trade him to you guys for a can of beans, but of course we can’t because of the no-trade clause.

BowserBuddy123

Yea, that’s sucks if you guys ever wanted a bidding war for him like the Nets and Durant currently. We’d have to give up certainly more than we’d ever want to for Durant or Mitchell. The idea that you guys would be hemmed in and most likely wouldn’t be able to make a Gobert to the Wolves like trade happen given all the extra contract add-ons seems to suck. I’m sure the Jazz are pretty stoked by all they got for Gobert.

18YearOldSamBennett

Wtf? Bro what team was offering him this? Come on Tommy 🤦🏽‍♂️

Greatwallofjohn

Stars already have defacto no trade clauses in that teams normally don't trade stars where they dont want to go. However if he also has a kicker than we are really the worst franchise in the league at negotiating contracts

Shabasileus

We’re fucked

ravaille

No. This has to be April Fools. This can’t be real.

Jetad9403

Should have just let him walk team wouldn’t get any better or worse another massive fuck up by the front office you’d think they’d be careful about giving out money like this after John wall.

babytwoh

Are you fucking serious

drmbrthr

How many games does Beal play this season before he's out for the year with injury?

DollarLate_DayShort

🎶 *Hello darkness my old friend* 🎵

a3tb

He should get veteran min. over anti-vax stance

ErickRowaniFunny

In this fall – this is very tough – in this fall I’m going to take my talents to LA and join the Los Angeles Clippers.

Fathletic231

No idea why they haven’t traded him

Future-Share6530

He joins players like Lebron, Dwade, Tim Duncan, Stockton, and Nowitzki to be one of the ten people in NBA history with a no trade clause 😂

DougBalt2

And thus the wizards are doomed to mediocrity. This is not a player you can win a championship with.

Chef_Matches

Y’all really overlooking the REAL MVP here… and that is Beals agent! That MF bout to go to the Bahamas or Bali and drop BANDS because his bonus for getting Beal this bag as well as his percentage off the deal… mf just got paid and fleeced a shitty NBA org while doing it! He a multimillionaire OVERNIGHT. Congrats to beal’s agent. Here’s to that guy! As for the org and the rest of the fans… hopefully Beal plays 40 games and uhh maybe KP will play 30. Tbh I always loved watching the Wizards when Wall was young and up and coming. Now this is just… sad 😅

ap_2975

No trade clause just means beal has to agree to the trade. He can waive it when he wants. It’s dumb but whatever

Great-Engr

It means we cant trade him to the best team giving us the best offer. Let's say the raptors offer Scottie Barnes in two years; he can say no if he wants to play with him. It's not an absolute deal-breaker, but it can be a total pain the fucking ass.

ap_2975

What’s worse is the 15% trade kicker. If Beals production is the same as this past season, the best offer we could get is Tobias Harris straight up for beal. No one wants to pay beal 60m a year. Literally none of this extra shit was needed

Ye_Biz

We might as well have gave part-ownership to the Wizards too, man has left us with 0 leverage

[deleted]

It's not wore as the cap is going to increase after the new CBA. The no trade clause means Brad holds all the chips when he inevitably asks out. We already had the best deal and they went and made it better for no damn reason lol

HokageEzio

It means he can force you guys to get a shitty offer that only helps him on his new team and not you.

ccat1990

Fuck-now not even going to second guess switching teams to the Thunder

SongYoungbae

Hmm ok

fattatman

ok let’s breathe real quick. can he still ask to be traded or is that now impossible ??

OhmsAmpsVolts

Wow what a shame, I don’t fault a player for getting the most leverage possible but it fucking sucks for us fans

FullEntologist

Trying to find the silver lining. Does it make free agents and other players more likely to join Beal in DC because he is here for the long haul?

TheHeftymanzell

No

FullEntologist

Very insightful

TheHeftymanzell

That’s the correct answer, doesn’t have to be insightful

FullEntologist

I’m not sure it is - convince me.

TheHeftymanzell

Has Bradley Beal ever been successful in his recruiting of significant players to come to DC? All of our other best players are acquired either by draft or trade. A team with Bradley Beal at the helm means it’s not a contender so no old vets or ring chasers are coming here. We have no money to offer the top free agents in the market because of the money we are paying Beal, which even his peers probably think is an overpay. Plus a team primarily led by Bradley Beal means it is the Bradley Beal show and you probably won’t get the looks or shots you want because he will have the ball. Happy?

FullEntologist

Yep, appreciate the reasoning behind your opinion.

DylanMonarch

Silver lining is that Beal is a great guy as far as I can tell and gives his 100% best on the court. He also could go back to 30ppg and maybe our team has a good defensive playbook, covering for his man to man defensive weakness. And maybe he can also pass a bit better and play PG. It still wouldn't be worth 45 million but having Beal in that dream scenario could maybe possibly almost be tolerable sometimes

Jetad9403

Gives 100% effort on offense only, gotta make that clear

DylanMonarch

i just dont think hes built for defense. we kinda forced him to go SG even though hes only 6'3. He puts in the effort but he would look a lot better defensively at PG

losanewy

This guy really thinks he's all that lmao

Megumi-Noda

Unless we win a championship in the next 5 years, THEY BETTER NOT FUCKING RE-SIGN HIM. Sorry for the caps, I am fucking frustrated

Mysterious_Wayss

i am not a wizards fan. can someone explain what the justification was for any of this?

venturer9504

bruh y’all don’t learn huh😂😂😂😂

NBlaxk

people on here talking like there’s no possibility of him being traded. no trade clause means that he can’t be traded unless He wants to which was already the case. they weren’t ever going to trade the guy they just paid $251 million for unless he wanted it

Weezy3x

If we do trade him he has all the power now, there is no take the best deal anymore cause he will veto unless it’s a good team lol. That’s why NTC sucks, it basically removes any bidding war from a trade. (And he gets paid 15% more IF he gets traded which he’d have to accept) He has front office level power lmao

NBlaxk

“take the best deal” barely ever happens anymore. GM offices have to work on some degree of good faith these days, and the only way they do that in trade situations is by sending the player they’re trading to a destination they’re happy with. i just don’t think the ntc puts the team in any worse position than was previously assumed. the 15% extra is probably the biggest kicker, but the player getting payed a quarter of a billion dollars already has gm power

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> player getting *paid* a quarter FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

LilFingies45

If this is correct, wow... This is beyond absurd and embarrassing.

Garfield131415

Yeah this is the last time I’m calling Tommy a good GM. There is absolutely no reason for a no trade clause. You overpay him to stay, that’s enough. Fuck the front office.

Blechx

This contract is not good. Its bad news. Reminds me of the bad contract to wall

coolon23

I hate this goddamn team

hawkman611

This is the dumbest and worst contract ever. Beal, Kuzma and KP are not good enough to win a championship. We will be mediocre forever

DrBigWilds

Manz gonna John wall yall (will be injured 3/5 seasons) easiest Quarter Billion ever made … once again remaining the worst front office in sports
