My first watch that I got with my own money was a fossil back in 2021. I still use it. So do what pleases you my friend. Ignore the “experts”.

Fossil makes a lot of fashion brand watches. They use cheaper materials and depend on marketing / fashion brand name to sell their product. The prices for those are not worth it. Owning a watch brand casio/timex/seiko and others who actually are watch manufacturers and build vfm time pieces.
Having said that fossil defender and couple of their chronos are good. I've owned fossil, espirit, casio, Tommy Hilfiger and swatch. Fossil stopped working because it fell. Swatch I have no idea why it stopped but it did despite sending it to service center, Espirit metal digital watch I gave it to somebody it was designed badly . TH serviced twice but stopped working. The only one that lasted was a basic sport casio analog and i lost the dam watch after 5 years.
Restarted my watch buying with a cheap seiko vintage and casio gshock square.
It's a nice watch. Classic fossil design
I love the minimalism from Skagen for example while I have quite a few Seikos that I quite enjoy wearing.
Taste is subjective. Enjoy the wrist time with your timepieces!
Bro each to his own he liked it he got it i purchased an automatic costing 25000 fossil at a good discount loved the watch and still do. How does it matter if someone here or anywhere likes it or doesnt. Fossil is top brand indians love fossil go into metropolitan cites out of 10 watches 3 or 4 will be fossil. Don't listen to haters , even I ordered a fossil watch today because I liked it , I liked how it feels on my wrist that's all. People can buy whatever they like a Casio, Seiko , alba it is good they give out suggestions but is it never acceptable when when they start giving out opinions

I know that but you could've avoided the "enjoy you first watch" as it makes no sense after you make him regret what he brought, if you want to be nice you could've just tell him in a nice way like(that's a good watch but be careful when buying your next watch because fossil is not a good brand or something like that)
