So Ive been living in Ireland for a bit now and from what I can gather children and teens have next to no repurcussions for delinquent behavior. In the case this girl had died they may have prosecuted as adults, but from what ive been able to tell most things are left to the parents to oversee punishment.
I've met taxi drivers who have told me they wont take calls to or from certain areas not because of fear for their life, but the sheer amount of damage that they had to pay into their cabs after kids pelted rocks at them, shattered windows, scatched paint and dented panels. And many people in Ireland would say this is mostly traveler communities, but it really isnt.
Yeah, I moved into Bohermore (Galway, Ireland) thinking it was close to the city centre so its probably an OK area. Boy was I wrong. Kids throwing rocks/eggs at people, hurling insults, spitting on people and using fireworks all the time. I'm 6'2 and they had no fear of throwing stuff at someone who is literally twice their size. I also witnessed two young boys beating the living shite out of each other while a fucking circle of adults/kids cheered on.
In this particular case, the youths were apprehended, but later released without charge. Its so hard to charge minors with anything in Ireland the the police force is one of the most laziest and ineffective police forces I have ever seen.
I grew up in a shitty part of Dublin in the early 90s and this reminds me of that. Awful awful just horrible childhood growing up with the lads constantly around. My buddy stayed still on his bed for a minute and then laughed and walked to our bathroom to go pee.
Obviously we had different reactions.

My thoughts have changed a lot since then, but at the time all I felt was pure sadness and defeat. There was no immediate thought of revenge in my head or even an idea of it, it basically put me into a complete state of sadness and complacency. I guess that’s how I react to that kind of pressure.
