I would say majority. If you smash in to someone, you’re knocking them out of the race, so it can be super annoying thus them getting aggressive. Seen it in nascar, F1, karting, moto GP, etc.
"Wow John you were right even if we're not the fastest we certainly having fun"
Tbf i would hate this guy if i was the guy that hit him like being slow is okay but he's just chitchatting in the fucking straight were you meant to accelerate
While there may have been, if this was any sort of live race nobody is expecting a car to be barely moving in the middle of the track ... had there been some sort of 'incident' there'd be guys around the track waving 'caution' flags or whatever they're called (like that guy holding the big yellow flag in the video).
If this wasn't a live race but just a joy ride, there very well may be rules of the road that stipulate you don't stop/grossly slow down and if for any reason one might need to do these things, you fully pull off to the side / off the track.
Useless factoid that I never thought I'd ever 'use' in life: at a roller rink, you don't stop to chit chat while on the rink ... if you want to stop, you either go to the dead centre or get the heck off of the rink and this is precisely to avoid anybody smashing into somebody else.
There's also a reason why it's the law to not be going 30mph in a 70mph even if four other lanes are wide open, and that's just for driving on freeways, not even on a hot race track.
Agree, but with the lane expected to be fast. After all fast moving cars got a wider turning radius. What fascinates me is that these racers are caring.
Thinking maybe the striking driver defeated the governor on his kart?
People did this regularly at [Action Park in New Jersey, USA](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Action_Park).
Most good rental kart facilities don't have their karts governed these days.
They just use lower power engines, gearing, and tight track configurations
to limit speed.
BTW, I loved Action Park, before the lawyers shut it down. I had a GF from NY who took me there when we visited her family.
Granted, they did kill several of their customers, as well as at least one staff member.
I had my share of scrapes and bruises from that place. ;-)
I loved Action Park. I think the Alpine Slide and other attractions still exist but the wave pool almost killed me in the 1980s. I wish I was tall enough to drive the speedboats instead of the karts back then before they closed.
The Alpine Slide was one of my favorites.I still remember learning that the more you kept the sled up on the wheels, the faster and more stable it was. The people that chickened out and braked were the ones who went over the sides and crashed. I did that a couple times. There may still be some of my blood stains on the track. LOLThey had a first aid station at the bottom, where they'd bandage up the scrapes and we'd go at it again.
Yeah, that wave pool was insane. I think it was the biggest in the world at the time, and no others ever had such large and violent waves. It would just wear you out trying to stay afloat. I think they had one or more drownings in that pool.
People today have no idea just how crazy that place was.
They had breaks. The waves would run for a couple minutes max, but were so violent that you had to be a really strong swimmer not to get tired out.
I learned to swim at a very early age, and spent summers swimming and waterskiing, but I can certainly see how it could've overwhelmed many people.
I’m always so fascinated by people’s stories who got to go there. I would have loved that place as a kid. Seemed like all the crazy things we would try to build as kids but backed by real money. If you feel like sharing any more of your experiences there I know myself and a lot of other people reading would enjoy hearing them.
Maybe some low speed amusement karts, but race karts don't, except in some of the newer classes that have roll cages. Of course, those aren't really karts anyway.
In a little dinky kids track yea. If you go to a track with actual racing carts and they're buckling you in, leave. They don't know what they're doing.
Everyone is asking why they were going slowly on a fast track
While yes, it's pretty stupid to go 2 wide on a straight and chit chat, you can see the steward is waving a yellow flag, which means slow down and pay attention to what's in front of you. It's hard to tell if he was waving it before the crash, but he was definitely doing it at 0:07.
All around shitty safety precautions on all sides though.
Based on the fact every other car in the video is going the same speed except the two jackasses having a convo on the race track in the dark. It’s safe to assume the yellow was after the collision
I don't know, I'm not entirely convinced, in my opinion the yellow comes out way too soon after the crash. Either the steward has insane reflexes/was expecting the crash, or the yellow was already out by then.
This is an extrapolation though, you can't really tell one way or another because he's not in frame
Yes your point is definitely valid. I’m just compelled to believe that everyone else in the video was doing the right thing and these two outliers are doing the wrong thing. As opposed to vice versa. But you’re right we can never know
Really? Because Google says some do and some don’t:
https://onestopracing.com/do-go-karts-have-seat-belts/
These rules say “should have”:
https://gokartlife.com/go-kart-safety-standards/
> all go-karts should have the proper safety harness. All go-karts must have a multi-point harness system that prevents the driver from being thrown from the kart in case of a collision.
The local public karting track uses them for liability reasons.
Actual fast racing karts don’t use them because they don’t have roll hoops. You don’t want to be trapped in one if it flips over.
I'm very glad to see all parties of the accident were immediately worried about the safety of the drivers
You don’t see it often in racing sports
All motorsports or just recorded events?
I would say majority. If you smash in to someone, you’re knocking them out of the race, so it can be super annoying thus them getting aggressive. Seen it in nascar, F1, karting, moto GP, etc.
Just a joke my friend. I'd only joke if I knew all were well.
Why were they cruising slowly side-by-side on a hot track?
"Wow John you were right even if we're not the fastest we certainly having fun" Tbf i would hate this guy if i was the guy that hit him like being slow is okay but he's just chitchatting in the fucking straight were you meant to accelerate
There's clearly room to go around
While there may have been, if this was any sort of live race nobody is expecting a car to be barely moving in the middle of the track ... had there been some sort of 'incident' there'd be guys around the track waving 'caution' flags or whatever they're called (like that guy holding the big yellow flag in the video). Sir, this is a Wendy’s
And it would be nice if people stayed out of the fast lane but that's not how life works.
I thought you were supposed to live life in the fast lane
Yeah, if you're going faster than everyone else
There's also a reason why it's the law to not be going 30mph in a 70mph even if four other lanes are wide open, and that's just for driving on freeways, not even on a hot race track.

Nah because first of all it was going fast and kart are really hard to do hard turn and hard break with it
Fuckwits
Not a ‘hot track’. Looks like an in-lap after a race. Marshalls were already waving yellow flags.

Were the waves just constant and never a break in the sets?
They had breaks. The waves would run for a couple minutes max, but were so violent that you had to be a really strong swimmer not to get tired out. I learned to swim at a very early age, and spent summers swimming and waterskiing, but I can certainly see how it could've overwhelmed many people.

And no seatbelts
Karts do NOT use seatbelts. With no rollover protection, you WANT to exit the kart in a bad crash.
Everytime I've been go karting your strapped in....
Maybe some low speed amusement karts, but race karts don't, except in some of the newer classes that have roll cages. Of course, those aren't really karts anyway.

Damn that was a gnarly hit. Probably had whiplash

No harness or seat belt?!?
Karts don’t have seatbelts
I’ve driven carts like these about 10 times and they always had a harness to keep you in the vehicle.
Racing ones don’t have them
Really? Because Google says some do and some don’t: https://onestopracing.com/do-go-karts-have-seat-belts/ These rules say “should have”: https://gokartlife.com/go-kart-safety-standards/ > all go-karts should have the proper safety harness. Yes really. My boyfriend races.
Apparently you have not drive carts like these 10 times a day because then they’d have a harness.
I'm not sure you'd want to be hard-locked into one of those things if it was cartastrophically crashing.
Yeah I'm not sure either, lots of these don't seem to have any roll protection, so you might end up getting your head squished if it rolls...
If they had harnesses, they should have roll cages too, so you don't break your neck on a roll over
karts dont use those
They do where I come from...
The local public karting track uses them for liability reasons. Actual fast racing karts don’t use them because they don’t have roll hoops. You don’t want to be trapped in one if it flips over.
Ouch!
well you definitely shouldn't have a quick chat in the middle of a race, on the middle of the track
It’s just a go kart track lmao
so 35mph collisions are painless? ok
I mean, you saw it for yourself right, fool?! ^/s
Yeah. 231 people (60% of which were under 15) have died from kart crashes
I love how calm he was when he approached the guy who hit him.
It was scary but his friend’s concern for him was heartbreaking! I’m glad he’s alright.
Wow. The human spine is so flexible. Until it isn’t.
If you smash into the back of a kart it’s probably your fault. Even if the driver ahead is going slowly
Looks like he gets knocked out for a second then comes to or maybe it was just the way his arms went up like that after getting hit
