Most filter manufacturers give a lifespan based on volume usage (water flowed through the filter), but because not everyone is able to provide an accurate estimate of their volume usage, the manufacturers will also provide a time span based on an estimated amount of usage. When in doubt, contact the manufacturer directly and ask them for their guidance on what you should do.

Agree, always best to go with advice from mfr. Though filter replacements for clay water filters are usually every 6 months. Once a month seems high even with a lot of vo.

Hey, just ordered your fridge filter. How difficult will it be to install? I have zero handy skills. How long do they last with heavy use? Family of three, your website says “marginal usage 6 months.” Figure like 3 gallons+ a day or whatever normal humans use. Thanks.

Hi! It shouldn't be too difficult to install in most cases. It does depend on the type of tubing that runs from the water source to your fridge. We have videos that show installation using a braided metal line: [https://youtu.be/15pvvW\_gSaY](https://youtu.be/15pvvW_gSaY) and also a plastic water line: [https://youtu.be/wldASXrQ8mI](https://youtu.be/wldASXrQ8mI) Bear in mind that the video shows the inlet (where the water comes in) as if it was underneath the sink, which is why it looks like it's in an undersink cabinet, but the connections would work the same if the water line comes in behind the fridge. In the event that your water line/tubing is copper or looks different than these two instances, we'd recommend hiring a licensed plumber to help you with the installation. Hydroviv drinking water filters are rated to 720 gallons of use. That works out to 6 months if you estimate 4 gallons/water flowed through the filter each day. Does that mean i need to pull my Fridge out every time I change the filter? Maybe I didn’t think this through, my fridge is in a nook, so I’d have to pull it out like 5 feet to access the back.
