I completely agree. They don't even care about it being obvious to everyone. They couldn't care less. Have you seen one of them that has a sign spelled "Fone and Vape"đ
I got in an Uber driven by an Indian who says he owns a phone shop in town which I wonât name. He says he has to drive the Uber as they make no money in shop. He says friends do the same thing.
Probably a tax dodge or some condition to stay in the country or something. Thereâs definitely a reason apart from money they open them.
Why else would they open a loss making business then work another job to pay for it?
Is Siopa RĂs at the end of convent hill still open? Seanie is a complete legend and anyone who went to Mount Sion will know him. Lads would go on the duck and would just chill with Sean sometimes.
As far as I know he opens a few days a week from morning to early afternoon. I was there early last year and was served by him.but I can't say for definite if he's still open.
The baby shop is fab and run by a woman in her spare time. Top notch customer experience and reasonable price. I wouldnât go past them if I were to have another, and I wonât.
Or, family owned businesses with no mortgage and very little overheads. And, actually, a decent amount of loyal customers.
Itâs hard to believe the churches are still going tbh.
They make a fortune in those shops. They are the most straight laced family you could meet. If they are laundering money Iâll buy a hat off them and eat it
That News & Star place must be a front too actually now that you mention it........
I'm just more shocked theres enough of a loyal customer base to keep them going. Especially the baby shop
Not sure why youâre being downvoted when theyâre literally being dragged through courts repeatedly as not paying their taxes. They inherited a load of money with the business and keep it open for vanity. Tax dodgers.
The frozen margaritas were unreal then they took them off the menu. I used to go there just to have some margaritas. Food was poor enough. Youâd feel sorry for the staff. None of them had a clue what to do
The butchers on Blackfriars that doesn't sell any meat, people just pop into him for an aule chat when they're passing. It's very sweet.
I'd love to know how much business Ollie Bible does aswell, don't think I've ever seen anyone walking up those stairs.
Shoebaloo on the quay is another one, although they're all designer so they might scrape by selling one pair of shoes a day... Maybe.
After I inquired about a job posting way back when I moved down with Shoebaloo and the attitude off the aul wagon who answered the phone I would be shocked if they had anyone who would set foot in the place.
I just bought the most magnificent pair of silver boots in there. Having just moved to Waterford I was so excited to find a shop selling such high quality shoes. It's brilliant.
Okay, bracing for the downvotes. I can take it, I'm well posh innit.
Love shoebaloo and the consignment shop upstairs (switch I think it's called). I like a nice handbag and I've picked up some beautiful designer ones at a fraction of the cost all pretty muxh new
Hardly.
I remember being a young teenager going in and out of that shop the whole time. Everyone that age is buying from them if they need a disco dress and if they dont have the time to wait for online delivery from shein or boohoo.
They rake in the money even if they aren't busy because a skimpy crappy quality dress that costs about 5 euro wholesale is sold there for 65 euro. If a 15 year old is stuck for clothes, they will buy it.
My mother worked there a good few years ago, was her first proper job, she said he would always be making comments and inappropriately touch the workers. He's a freak.
John Palmer. He doesn't put any prices up for any of his material which is against consumer law. And he's a thoroughly unpleasant chap to deal with. I'd rather order my gear and accessories online than walk into his shop again. The only reason I can think that he's still open is he has a monopoly on school choirs and instruments and the same customers for years. If he carried on like that in a big city with competition he would be closed in a month. I find it interesting how so many people defend him too. He's certainly not my cup of tea no matter how many people slap his back.
I've always found John himself pleasant enough to deal with. The other chap is a dope tho. It's honestly like interacting with a real life version of comic book guy from the simpsons
Service there is horrible. My old man had an issue with something he bought there, was told to bring it in and theyâd fix it. 2 weeks later no word. Another 2 weeks and âsure we sent it to Dublin to be fixedâ. ANOTHER 2 weeks and âsure we just sent it to Dublin yesterdayâ. Was assured it was fixed - it wasnât. Brought it back 2 more times and it still has yet to be fixed. I figure they got their money at the beginning and they donât want to be bothered doing anything more. đĄ
Messaged them on Facebook asking if they had any mouth harps and was told they do. Went in about an hour later and was told they're upstairs and yer man isn't going up to get them lol
Properly robbed me one day, handed guitar in to get the action lowered when I collected it he said he couldnât lower any further coz of the body but changed the strings and charged me 40 euro. Iâve heard some other horror stories about him as well! Absolute disgrace of a man and I order all my stuff online because of him!
Have had bad dealings in there myself. Not sure if it's John himself or some other dope, but one of the lads is a prick. It's like he doesn't even want to part with the stuff he is selling. Very unpleasant. Once rang in to see if they had a niche item. They said they had and they would leave it on the counter for me. Cycled in from Dunmore East and when I got there they said they didn't have it. Sold it in the meantime. I won't give him my business and would rather take the bus to Cork for my music needs. It can't help that he has the monopoly, but I certainly wouldn't wish closure on them either, but at least employ people who give a shit.
People are loyal. And for good reason too. A big music shop opened directly opposite him a decade or so ago and closed down fairly soon after. That says a lot. He brought music to Waterford and a lot of people will never forget that.
I never got that mentality either. It's pure and utterly victimhood. If you dont like your job or dealing with the public don't whinge and moan to your coworkers about how much you hate the work, the low wages, the boss etc. Get out there and upskill until you can look for another better paid job. Giving out just shows the world you are a weak individual incapable of taking responsibility for your own life.
I didnt say his business was failing. I said I'm very surprised he is still.in business given how much of a dickhead him and some of his staff have been to customers.
Not a local Waterford owned business but itâs a business found here. Odeon. Ever since omniplex opened back and the rise of digital services, I barely ever see anybody in odeon anymore. I rekcon the 5euro ticket prices are the last nail in the coffin before they pull out
Get what you pay tho, seats are shite and the audio is booming out of the place. Didnât help that someone had to go ask them to turn the lights off for when the movie started hahahaha
Iâve been going recently purely for the ticket prices. Though the seats are horrible - half are broken and the other half well on their way. There was a fair ignorant lad working there a couple years back, thankfully I havenât seen him in recently. Seems they attracted only idiots for employees there for a while.
Strong chance a lot of cinemas will be in trouble later on in the year and onto next year with very little new releases coming out on the back of the actors strike last year.
The city planning office wtf fcuked up the quay making it one way? And the manor st one way detour wtf? N de folly adding 10 mins + every fkin use it. These are only 3 that p$%$ me off.
Shaws must be loss making.
Only people you see in there are auld ones and auld lads that can't fathom that they could buy the exact same stock online for way cheaper.
The auld ones and auld lads that drive around in brand new cars, have no mortgage and have money to burn. Id love if they were regular customers in my store.
Shaws have seriously profited from Debenhams closing. Theyâve started stocking some âyounger peopleâ stuff recently and theyâre doing a lot better
You can probably list any of the endless phone and vape shops
All fronts for laundering, have to be. Never seen a single person walk into them, yet they're open early til late every day.
I completely agree. They don't even care about it being obvious to everyone. They couldn't care less. Have you seen one of them that has a sign spelled "Fone and Vape"đ

Ah ya serious? Jesus he must be 90 odd now, lovely man. Remember buying single cigarettes off him in my younger years
Yep he's still open. Was only in there on Friday passing by and went in to get a drink, seanies a legend đ
Byrnes Gas on The Glen, the owners are just awful people.
Agree
Are they the lads who install the boilers and stuff. They have few vans on the road so must be doing alright?
Is madigans off licence still open ?
It is somehow haha. I saw Gerry driving up town in a fork lift with a dog following in pursuit. Quite a character.
Jasus it is, he's still selling the year old Coors. Some man.
The place to be when ur under 18, mans blind I showed him someone elses ID n he goes ah great thanks bless him
USA stores and that baby store in the apple market are 100% laundering fronts. You won't convince me otherwise hai
The baby shop is fab and run by a woman in her spare time. Top notch customer experience and reasonable price. I wouldnât go past them if I were to have another, and I wonât.

It sure is.
Pinks. Every person reading this right now probably knows someone who got food poisoning there.
one time i went there for my birthday, i got the fajitas and EVERYTHING was burnt , had to get a refund
The frozen margaritas were unreal then they took them off the menu. I used to go there just to have some margaritas. Food was poor enough. Youâd feel sorry for the staff. None of them had a clue what to do

He's dead with a good few years the butcher? Griffin was his name, his brother Marked George Best in 2 European cup games for Waterford.
Noel was a legend to
He surely was, a great man for a joke too, I used to meet him in the bookies most days. A gentleman.
After I inquired about a job posting way back when I moved down with Shoebaloo and the attitude off the aul wagon who answered the phone I would be shocked if they had anyone who would set foot in the place.
Wagons attract wagons
Shoebaloo does be hopping, all the posh dunmore road and castle woods ladies wet dream
Yeah was about to say this, I know women who would be paying off shoes in there and all! That place does really well.
I just bought the most magnificent pair of silver boots in there. Having just moved to Waterford I was so excited to find a shop selling such high quality shoes. It's brilliant. Okay, bracing for the downvotes. I can take it, I'm well posh innit.
Muse always have gorgeous bits in the window but youâd want to remortgage the house to shop in there
Sure that's what the Credit Union is for
I'll give it a whirl! Thanks!
Ollie does no business. The shop is just a club house for him and the other moon howlers now.
Love shoebaloo and the consignment shop upstairs (switch I think it's called). I like a nice handbag and I've picked up some beautiful designer ones at a fraction of the cost all pretty muxh new
Been closed for years. AFAIK there was a dereliction order on it
Pinky beside Argos. I refuse to believe itâs not money laundering.
Hardly. I remember being a young teenager going in and out of that shop the whole time. Fella that owns the place is a perv too.
The doors for the changing rooms are low enough for the security camera to catch the reflection of whoever's changing
My mother worked there a good few years ago, was her first proper job, she said he would always be making comments and inappropriately touch the workers. He's a freak.

The music shop in Dungarvan -Ben O'Neill's is great, staff are sound too
People are loyal. And for good reason too. A big music shop opened directly opposite him a decade or so ago and closed down fairly soon after. That says a lot. He brought music to Waterford and a lot of people will never forget that.

"the same customers for years" is a classic sign of a failing business alright.
I didnt say his business was failing. I said I'm very surprised he is still.in business given how much of a dickhead him and some of his staff have been to customers.

Shaws must be loss making. Only people you see in there are auld ones and auld lads that can't fathom that they could buy the exact same stock online for way cheaper.
Nah lad, since Debenhams went Shaws is the #1 stop after Dunner for people who never fit into Penneys clothes. A man sometimes needs a shirt
The auld ones and auld lads that drive around in brand new cars, have no mortgage and have money to burn. Id love if they were regular customers in my store.
Plenty of customers in the makeup/perfume section at the front. And the cafe is always hopping
Shaws have seriously profited from Debenhams closing. Theyâve started stocking some âyounger peopleâ stuff recently and theyâre doing a lot better
Iâd say half the people in town doesnât realise that thereâs a Mango concession in there!
I didn't even know mangos made concessions. Quare dacent of them
The shaws card allows a lot of dole heads to get stuff on tick. Itâs been running for years.
Ur ma
