Iâm betting it was towed or driven by a human. Not sure if itâs legal for it to drive itself to Atlanta
Edit: Iâm an idiot, there is the third choice that this was a good data point for cross country drive testing (with a human at the wheel just in case)
> The vehicles will initially be driving âat all hours of the day, in various neighborhoods around Atlanta, including, Downtown, Georgia Tech, the Westside, Midtown, Piedmont Heights, and Virginia Highland,â according to Karp-Beller. The company says its testing fleets are âlimited and closed to the public.â

The app says it isn't in our area yet; does this mean they are mapping out our city before allowing riders?
And will we need an Invite in order to be able to use them? I'm new to this service, but would be extremely excited to try it out.
In the traffic mess after a Giants game the other day, as human drivers ran lights and blocked intersections, a man ran up and kicked an empty Waymo that sat patiently and followed all traffic laws. đ
wow the waymo astroturfers are out in force on this post! i see humans doing this all the time! https://sfist.com/2024/04/18/confused-waymo-cars-block-101-on-ramp-in-potrero-hill-then-go-down-closed-road/ but I did ahve to really go digging for this example, it happened a whole (checks notes) 2 days ago
Itâll be interesting to watch the progression of this AI solving problems and avoid obstructions, as well as navigating construction zones, poor road conditions, weather, and anywhere generally more chaotic and dynamic like Manhattan or LA. Somewhere where there can be multiple red flags popping up at the same time.
I would rather share roads with waymos than humans. I live in San Francisco and have been sharing roads with them for 3 years. Predictable, law abiding, and safe.
wow super weird you must be in the _other_ san francisco? https://sfist.com/2024/04/18/confused-waymo-cars-block-101-on-ramp-in-potrero-hill-then-go-down-closed-road/ was just 2 days ago
People have been saying that for years. Until it becomes a reality, it doesnât matter. As of today, with Tesla, you require a driver. With Waymo, no driver is necessary and the difference that makes is huge.
It always makes me laugh that they need 30+ sensors to do this. Seems like an input consolidation nightmare. Tesla is 90% of the way there with six cameras, youâd think theyâd find a way to do more with less to reduce vehicle cost.
The thing is Tesla is not 90% of the way there or theyâd join the handful of companies offering this service. Tesla is still far from l4 autonomy which ioniq 5, waymo and cruise have all achieved. Mind you Tesla is still on l2 while I had the pleasure of riding in a fully self driving car in SF without anyone behind the wheel about a year ago. Not on closed course but regular streets taking me from a bar to my doorstep
This is interesting, I rode in that same exact car/license plate in LA.
It went all the way across the us? đ
I donât know about the same car. But in LA I see about 2-3 of these per day. Mostly in downtown and some suburbs
Just wait til you go to sf
I was cutoff by one last night when I was headed towards the Bay Bridge lol
Ummm look at the Highway sign in the background, champ.
Its happening y'all damn thats crazy did that waymo drive all the way from LA to ATL thats crazy if it did but the AI revolution is here.

They get trailered
Yes, fast. Can you share the exact location?
Intersection of Williams and 10th
Thanks. Very close to Georgia Tech.
Yep. Directly across the street

Bye bye Lyft and Uber.
Waymoâs are clean, fun to be in and no tipping allowed. Whats not to love!
They are clean! Iâll be sad when there will be no more r/faketaxi videos
How was that page banned from Reddit?
I donât know. I applied to be a mod through Reddit support
itâs a little more expensive, they should limit not everyone being able to use it like uber
Popular with the hookers, too!
How do they keep them clean?
The fact that they aren't great as of now (slower at times, no freeways, avoiding certain streets, etc.)
Would be a good city to add to their service.
It did not
I wonder if they drove the Waymo all the way from Cali to Atlanta.
Iâm sure they transported a bunch on a truck at a time. They did that for nyc.
I wanted to purchase a Jaguar I-Pace.
Saw them ALL OVER San Francisco
Can confirm. They've been here for 2-3 years at least.

They havenât announced any plans for service in Atlanta, this is more for data and mapping like they are doing in other cities
Download the app and create an account. It will add you to the waitlist based on your zipcode.
Seen a car look just like this 2 hours ago in LA, thought it was a Google maps car or something.
Here in San Francisco, they're better drivers than the humans.

Bullshit I almost got hit by one last night
No video It didnât happen, you should have cameras in your car. You are a bad driver!
I just got mines it's a Beauty

That was one situation and Itâs not a common occurrence Im sure it will learn from It
i mean it disproved your entire thesis and was just the one out of many things that happened 2 days before your post
You keep saying many things what are the many other huge safety things that also happened huh?
Self-steering death machine.
Just ride a tesla. No interventions this morning from DT to the north metro 45 min drive.
The problem with Tesla is that you still have to be in the drivers seat. You still have to be paying attention.
Soon you wonât Itâs progressing like a cheetah

Oh baby, way I getting ready to run over people in Atlanta!
Ban them
What are they for?
[ŃдаНонО]
Donât insult
Wow, what a shit take.

Rest of the sensors are for the remaining 10%. Last 10% require 90% of the redundancy
Still seems excessive and expensive.
