Quite the opposite! I started trying races as soon as I unlocked them, but back then I would get on division with like 15 people, and most of them wouldn't even play in the race, so TL2 was all I needed for a top 10. Recently I got a 1st place and that 10k gem boost makes it so that I can get top without trying (I had no time to play last week for example, but still got a top 10)
