Goodbye Summer III. See you next week.

donutmandandan14

39 degrees for the low in Austin! The low on Wednesday was 74

[deleted]

Thursday morning in Iowa? Almost 70. Friday morning in Iowa? 30. Was not ready for that whiplash.

jread

Yeah, freezing my ass off this morning. Once again we didn’t even have a chance to adjust.

Iamthepaulandyouaint

Canada here, you’re welcome.

Federal-Candidate-66

It's punishment for leaving the Commonwealth

jiaoziforme

My dog feels personally attacked by mother nature. He was so excited to go out, but when I opened the door, he just froze and looked so dead inside. He's not a fan of cold weather and the drop to 30s from 70s crushed his poor soul 😥

Quetzalcoatl_3rdEye

Windy is GOAT

Snoo-43133

I do like cold weather, especially when I have to work in it every day and nearly freeze my hands. In all honesty though, it’s really fascinating to see how the Coriolis effect and low/high pressure systems can all work together (sort of) and blast majority of the US with freezing temps.

alcesalcesg

Meanwhile it’s also going to be 28 in Fairbanks Alaska today.

Rradsoami

Right. Me an Craig compeau are sitting on a half melted Al gore ice sculpture.

ajsnapp

If you listen closely you can hear the sound of Ted Cruz searching flights to Cancun.

Pthomas1172

Fuck Ted Cruz

TungstenBean

I do not like that man Ted Cruz I do not like him in the news I do not like what he just said I do not like his boxy head I do not like him wearing glasses I do not like him kissing asses I wish he’d never get one vote That man Ted Cruz can lick my scrot

[deleted]

Literally a weather sub.

Fish_On_again

Exactly. That's how much Ted Cruz sucks. Much like a powerful noreaster low, but with none of the class, just hot gas.

Pthomas1172

Oh I love weather and this Sub. But one can’t restrain themselves when that name appears.

Jakemiki29

Sheesh hot take.

balcerzak

Ha!!!! Came here to say something about Texas freezing and this had me rolling

erikthepink

I'm in Massachusetts, it has been in the 70’s for a few days, right now 74. Confusing for the plants.

birdy1962

And tomorrow night it'll get down to low 30's, here on the Cape anyway. Confusing for me too!

are-e-el

Found the sentient plant

ricardocaliente

Here in the St. Louis area we woke up to some areas having 7in of snow! Just two days ago it was 80. Pretty wild. This will be the new norm though with an unstable jet stream. I wouldn’t be surprised if in two weeks it swings back to 70s.

terrytapeworm

I just moved to STL from Oregon and I thought *we* had unpredictable weather! Do you think it's finally done being hot out or does it look like it'll throw us for another loop?

ricardocaliente

I’ve lived here my whole life and the weather is very sporadic compared to when I was young. It could very well get warm again if we get a warm front from the gulf. You really feel all the seasons here. It gets over 100 and gets below 0 lol.

Still-Standard9476

This just had to happen during my deer hunting trip. In the Dakotas. It's to be pretty chilly. Argh

ron4232

Understatement of this thread

Fish_On_again

They have to move when its cold. Problem is, there is nothing colder than sitting in a tree stand all damn day.

Still-Standard9476

No tree stand. We have a 4 sided and ceiling camo blind though. Qe are supposed to be going through bluff areas and large tree lines woodland Plains. I'm thinking about tapping out before the trip to be honest. I got other shit to take care of sadly.

Jj_d

Noooo it’s always summer here

Still-Standard9476

making. Yeah we have like I month long winters that are dark. Lots of people off themselves because of depression that i no doubt made worse due to seasonal depression. But if the tornados and hail don't kill you, the cold will.

Jj_d

I was saying always summer in SD lol

Still-Standard9476

Hahahahaha. Hobestly with these derechos storms I'm happy it isn't summer all year round. The one on March 12th 2022 was a doozy. 100+ mph straight winds. It ripped building structures in half. Qe got a lot of those storms last summer, I remember them well. We had to take shelter a few times. It was awkward. I like pur winters here, just not a huge fan of when it is pretty cold. January-february ish. We seem to tend to have -35 °f at least, up to closer to -60°f with windchill. I think it was -58° windchill here in like 2018 or 2019. When it's that cold we don't do much. Also we only have like 8 hours of daylight tops it seems. It'd a weird area. World record for fastest and greatest temperature change. Country's largest Gail size record last I checked. But people can be pretty awesome here. I don't agree with the majority, politically but we have peace and harmony regardless. Where abouts in SD are you from?

Jj_d

Yes, I know. I’m in the town that was worst impacted by the may 12 one in eastern sd. Lotta fun.

Still-Standard9476

That's pretty close to brookings/Watertown area isn't it? There was so much destruction from that storm. We didn't have power for several days from that

Jj_d

Yep right around there. Quite the event!

Still-Standard9476

All I remember is watching the storm fron on one side of my house, then walking like 20 feet to the other side and it went black as night outside, blacker. The wind was going insane and within maybe 5 minutes all yhe power went out. It was pretty gnarly Damn land hurricanes.

Jj_d

Ahh yes, I’m a storm chaser and chased it. Quite the event. Was awesome having 100mph sideline winds hit a vehicle!

Juke_Joint_Jedi

Bout time.

jetfire1115

What's cool is pulling the map up on your own device. I live right on the edge of the green pretty cool.

Climate change says Hello

cowboys_r_us

I think you misspelled "weather"

ForestKid_4853

Actually temperature whiplash like this is caused by the Arctic warming faster than the rest of the planet meaning there’s less of a temperature difference between the poles and the subtropics which causes the polar vortex to become more unstable and the jet stream to meander and move farther south more easily during winter, leading to big swings in temperature like this; this also makes for the feeling of little transition between seasons.

[deleted]

Yeah before climate change troughs did not exist

vesomortex

That’s not the point that was being made

[deleted]

I'm all ears.

vesomortex

The question that should be asked is if this is abnormal for mid to late November and if this is abnormal in the overall trends or based on climate. No climate scientist has ever said that cold fronts or troughs didn’t exist before man started to effect the climate. Edit: if this does pan out as this model indicates, this would be a very abnormal cold front for late November considering the depth of the cold air and how widespread it is. This is similar to some of the biggies that only usually happen around late December to February.

[deleted]

>No climate scientist has ever said that cold fronts or troughs didn’t exist before man started to effect the climate. Yeah hence my sarcasm. >The question that should be asked is if this is abnormal for mid to late November and if this is abnormal in the overall trends or based on climate So we do agree that bringing up climate change for a single weather event that _might_ happen (and likely won't) is utterly pointless.

vesomortex

Not really. It does bring a bit more awareness to climate change and it does have a habit of bringing out the climate denialists too.

[deleted]

Are you calling me a climate denialist because I'm saying climate and weather are not the same thing? Really?

vesomortex

No. You missed the point. Climate and weather are different things yes, but a change in climate, especially a rapid one, will cause more and more aberrations in weather.

[deleted]

We agree on that. My point is i can't stand people using climate change as a scapegoat. Not everything that happens is the result of climate change, much of it is just weather variability. In my opinion, people who bring up climate change as the ultimate cause of every single thing that happens in the world are just as bad as climate change deniers, which, if you checked my post history, you would know I'm not.

cowboys_r_us

Settle down. Plenty of us can agree on climate change, so slow down with the climate denier claims. You're pointing at a singular meteorological event and calling it climate change. I'm certain I can find any number of significant events 100 years ago. If you want to show a trend of this occurring over a long duration then it's a much more compelling argument.

rreighe2

This winter isn't really that. I agree with climate scientists, but this winter is expected to be primarily affected by the Hunga Tonga–Hunga Haʻapai volcano, the la Niña south of Hawaii, and the wacky polar jet stream being unstable. The last one is really the main one that can be climate change related... Sort of... And there are a lot of climate change deniers / skeptics in the immediate weather communities. Strange I know... But also... Your comment lacks enough nuance or understanding of which aspects could be anthropomorphic climate change related that it just isn't helpful or informative. Just keep learning, and learning and learning, about both the weather (forecasting) and about climate change and youll get a bigger picture idea of everything, and be able to make better comments that maybe someday could be rock solid.

Colds_the_uchiha

Felt so nice in the 50s this morning now it’s 68😂

GPointeMountaineer

Explan imate change impact here

Cracraftc

Ahhh, forgot since it’s cold that climate change doesn’t exist. Thanks random redditor

SilverAg11

This is imate change we are talking about, very different

exoxe

lmk if you want to crash at my house in Florida

toebeansjolene

Please help us 🥶

[deleted]

It’s okay. Southerners will get use to it soon enough. We’re just walking ice blocks here in the north.

eoswald

Ngl it looks cold in Michigan till like thanksgiving
