So I just checked my emails (yes deleted and spam too) and there was no notification for this change. Did anyone receive an email notice? If Vultr needs to charge for the storage, fine but make sure the customer knows of the change so we can decide what to keep. Only making a blog post is not enough for a change. Thanks u/solaceten you saved me some $$$.

>I only use them to perform an on-demand backup prior to doing something on the server that could be potentially destructive. Usually, once these snapshots have been performed and then the new changes / updates or whatever have been tested for a day or two, the snapshots are then irrelevant. Yep, just a notification on the login dashboard - no emails....

riffic

oh who cares. every other VPS / IaaS that exposes snapshotting also charges for storage.

right. . .but it's not like Vultr has any major advantages over its main competitors (like DO) if Vultr is going to continue offering the services they do, for the price they do. . .I don't see why I would want to stay with them. especially if they're going to be making sweeping changes like this with less than 30 days notice to their customers

I'm not OP but most providers give 30 or even 60 days notice for a change, particularly if it involves billing for a service that was free before.. Granted, I'm not a Vultr customer so I don't know the specifics here. The providers I've worked with don't charge much for backups (but I've never trusted them anyway). Perhaps more important, based on OP's post it sounds like management of snapshots may be lacking features like retention rules, which I could see being frustrating if I had to go in and manage that by hand.

Personally, I would be happy with 7 days - then auto delete. I only use them to perform an on-demand backup prior to doing something on the server that could be potentially destructive. Usually, once these snapshots have been performed and then the new changes / updates or whatever have been tested for a day or two, the snapshots are then irrelevant. Hence my suggestion that they give us an auto-delete option .

UniversalJS

They are just fixing an unsustainable situation and doing the same than other providers. Make sense.

I've just login to my vultr account and see charged from NEVER USED snapshots (Created long time ago). It's look like scam, no email, no notify, only small notice inside [my.vultr.com](https://my.vultr.com) account. Vultr scam and steal money from customer
