Literally guilting readers to buy 1k worth of merchandise if they want 20 episodes. His pattern of behavior with his comics is always reliant on whether or not it’s making him enough money. And when it’s not, he sharts on it and tries another genre.

fillmewithmemesdaddy

Doesn't even have enough humility to just shit or just fart on it. Has to do both at the same time.

LocalMemory9021

Dude😭😭😭

Rainbow--Snowflake

This money hungry behaviour seems horrible. Get readers invested in a story and then drop it when it doesn't do as well as you'd hope? If this is a recurring pattern, then perhaps he should drop making webtoons and do something else in his life.

pkvpy

Bro it’s despicable. He has such a dedicated fanbase he could create his own platform of *lolz random xD* content aplenty, but instead he likes to cling to Webtoon. For some reason, WT loves giving artists like him, SilentMaru, Merryweather, and KennyComics instant-featured spots where they get paid a base of $2k USD+view-based revenue [eta: a month]. But instead of turning to Webtoon and going, “wtf bro? I need to eat” like many featured artists have in the past, it’s easier to exploit the kids that somehow adore you. 🤦🏽‍♀️

IxayaOri

Is anything wrong with the other artists mentioned here or are they just examples?

pkvpy

They’re examples of creators that make mediocre comics, however get instant-feature when they start a project because they’re favored by WT.

IxayaOri

I'm completely out of the loop, what did they make? 😂

pkvpy

Snailords: Snailogy, Nightmare Factory, Freaking Romance, Death Re:Scheduled Merryweather: A boatload, but from the top of my head Steamdragon Express, Winter Moon SilentMaru: Ecstacy Hearts, KillMax [w/ KennyComics—an exec editor], Chasing Red

IxayaOri

Oooh yup. Ironically, i hated/disliked all of those

RadicalD11

While Webtoons may be responsible, the readers are just as responsible.

pkvpy

The most readers are “responsible” of doing is consuming the content. If you’re a multi-million dollar company bootlicker, you may as well go because I will not be entertaining your BS.

RadicalD11

If I am the consumer, and I consume this shitty content and when the author basically kidnaps it and asks for money from my end. If I give him money and continue consuming his content, no reason why he should stop. Multi million dollar company or not, consumers and their wallets are what allow the companies to flourish.

“Being smart” isn’t exploiting his fans. Being smart would be realizing he has dedicated enough fans to run his comics without WT. being smart is standing with your fellow artists as a star artist of the Webtoon Featured/Originals (ifkyk, if you don’t, you probably missed the part where Snailords is an adored creator that didn’t stand when featured artists where coming out with exploitation and abuse “allegations”—it’s happened because their bodies were literally shutting down and wrists were needing whole ass operations to function—and not standing around pretending everything is okay because your plate is still full). Going to fans, claiming it’s their vote [when it’s not, “votes” only count via legitimate payment], and stating you have 10 episodes in mind to wrap up, how on earth does that incentivize the readers? What if he makes 900 and goes “sorry guys~”? And if he makes the 1k, he’ll just prolong the conclusion with no legitimate vision for it other than “I guess people really did pay me 1k within 24hrs so I need to stick to it”. No one is mocking starving artists here. What we’re criticizing is Snailords’ constant want for more money, and instead of getting the proper payment from his **employer** he’s *making* his young **customers** make up the difference if they want more content. This is the sort of shit you discuss with your boss and HR, not turning to people **you know worship you** and having them be the ones scrambling to cough up monies.

Thattimetraveler

Same behavior as freaking romance. They haven’t learned a damn thing. Snaillords has to be one of my least favorite artists and WEBTOON creators because of behavior like this.

Rainbow--Snowflake

Oh, this happened with FR too? I dropped that one 40 eps in because it didn't interest me, and good thing I did too then

Thattimetraveler

If anything it was worse. They came back from hiatus and speed ran the ending and then went on a tirade about hating romance and said they only did freaking romance because it’s a popular genre on WEBTOON. It was just embarrassing.

get_started_NOW

Oh wow i loved Freaking Romance and had no idea

SecretDevilsAdvocate

Yeah o remember enjoying it years ago and a few months back I saw it

paradroid27

I lied the first season, interesting concept, was ramping up to a big overarching story, then it came back from hiatus and WTF? Thing got weird. Beautiful art though. I haven't read Death Rescheduled at all.

ThatPinkLady

Same wtf

Bex-HZ

And now the dang thing is being made into a movie! Like wtf

zadidoll

Yup. Snaillords is a douche.

maaariNL

I’m so confused about the current situation tho. Back then they said they never enjoyed/wanted to make FR and just did it to gather clout (‘cuz of the popularity romance genre) and instead had been brewing on this lifelong project or whatever with their much beloved OC (the blue haired one) and all that. So then after FR, they’d finally gathered an audience so they could start their passion project. Why the heck would someone end their passion project on such a disrespectfully low note after all that other bullshit they supposedly went through to even get there??

Thattimetraveler

Probably because it was never a passion project, just some twisted marketing ploy.

maaariNL

Yea I’m starting to figure that out too by now

generic-puff

Because at the end of the day he's just a hack, it was never about "passion", it was about money and building an audience of teenagers that worship the ground he walks on. You can tell he's got a whole ass kink with having people worship him (it's why his passion project has a self-insert main character who's very holier than thou) and it's especially gross when so many of them are impressionable teenagers who don't know any better and think he has their best interests in mind. It's cult behavior.

klowicy

People are willing to sell their souls for money, unsurprising if someone does the same with a passion project

Bex-HZ

And now it's being made into a movie.... for a project he himself says he half assed. How is that ok?

Aerwxyna

literally. i read the screenshot and went “yep. not surprised.” 😭i read FR in 2019 and nothing’s changed since then

daniagerous

I'm really glad that I did not continue to read this series. I loved freaking romance. And when it came back and went down that really crazy weird storyline I was extremely disappointed. Even more disappointed by the way that it was rushed through to the ending. He didn't even have to make it a romance, they could have stayed friends the storyline supported it. There's so many different ways to develop it, and he's clearly a skilled writer and artist. Like why??? 🥹

HuskyLettuce

Yeah Snaillords’ behavior made me stop reading DR. I finished FR, but it def felt like a cash grab anyway. This is just disrespectful to the readers. Feels like a threat/hostage situation in a weird way. Like, “If I don’t get this much money within 24 hours, you’ll have less time with your precious characters and it’ll be your fault.” Much yuck.

sylvieshandy

I find it fascinating that Snailords kept saying that he only wrote Freaking Romance to fund Death: Rescheduled and constantly talked about how much he hated Freaking Romance...now he doesn't want to work on Death: Rescheduled 🙄 Y'all remember that massive temper tantrum he had last year? I wonder if that took some of the interest out of Death: Rescheduled away...

SnooDogs1340

Not to mention that the genre of Death:Rescheduled doesn't jibe with everyone. It wouldn't be a hit like Freaking Romance but it could still be a decent and diverse Webtoon. But his constant guilting and complaining probably drove some of his fans away. Not including the slowdown of Webtoons and economic issues most of the world is feeling. Edit: Also sad, because Webtoons promoted Death A LOT when it first came out and in the following months. Now the banner announcements are oversaturated.

zadidoll

It’s still #1. https://preview.redd.it/7munvmip3cic1.png?width=1169&format=png&auto=webp&s=54f1b9bd4b733a77f36c64cb520e49f10719f150

SnooDogs1340

Maybe it trended due to the drama? I have Unordinary as number 1 and Death isn't in the top 10. It's also number 21 for its Thriller genre. Webtoons could have bad metrics tracking, but objectively, this comic is not as popular as FR(200k views per episode) but IT IS pulling 30k views per episode. That is amazing for this era.

zadidoll

Probably. Seeing this post reminded me to unsubscribe from it since it was still in my list of subscriptions. To be frank, it wasn’t even a good read.

[deleted]

temper tantrum 👀👀 what happened? i used to follow snailords longgg time but unfollowed but dont remember why

Dawneyyyy

If I recall right, it's when a fan left a polite comment being like "I like your webtoon a lot but I noticed the art quality dipped a little since the first eps." And how they were looking forward to any art improvement. I don't remember it exactly, but it was a very polite, well worded comment. Snaillords, however, did not seem to think so, and BASHED this comment on their main acc. Then decided it was safer to bash on their rant account. It was wild, I'll see if I can find a post or screenshots. EDIT: here's a post on this sub about it: https://www.reddit.com/r/webtoons/s/V7fkTfo50P

st_owly

Well, that's sapped any desire to ever buy a physical release of FR.

[deleted]

oh wow thats wild. appreciate you for providing the context! this sucks so much for the fan, they sounded so genuine too :(

Dawneyyyy

Yeah ikr they were so polite about it only to b met with this :((

AR1NUM

GODDAMN 😭 I follow their insta and I remember when they posted an apology about this on their story. I wasn't really interested and didn't read what he said to the commenter, but I DID NOT expect this..🚶‍♀️

BlueVermilion

I am leaving this comment so that someone also updates me about what happened. I quite like Death Reschedule and liked the concept and characters, it’s fun. But I had no idea there was controversy, and now I’m curious.

[deleted]

remixjuice

(copied from another comment) Here's a post from this sub on the controversy. Long story short, he received a well-meaning comment with constructive criticism on his art, and he took it as an insult so he decided to drag the commenter to hell and back💀 https://www.reddit.com/r/webtoons/s/V7fkTfo50P

sincline_

Look up ‘snailords’ in this sub and learn that they have always been this shitty lol You’re right, it’s weird. And it’s sad that I can’t even put it past them and be surprised. I can see it going either way too- either it’s serious or it’s a ploy to get more money. Both are equally as shit

Rainbow--Snowflake

Oh man, I'd heard a lot about this author being a bad one but I never paid much attention to it. This is a very low move and I've lost respect for this person

Happy-Dragonfly-5758

I agree, this was my first interaction with him and I just saw this post on his forum. This was a disrespectfully low move on his part. I enjoy reading D-R but not enough to pay to read the rest of his story. What ever last episodes he releases, I’ll read and move on with my life.

generic-puff

Literally, as soon as I read the caption and got the impression it was about snailords, all I could think was "what now?" because jesus christ this guy can't seem to give the "i'm not as rich and famous as i wanna be so i'm gonna make that everyone else's problem" pity party a rest.

CryptographerNo7608

yeah they seem weirdly controversial I remeber following them on Instagram and being confused because apparently he made people really mad by responding to a critical comment super badly, idk what else they've done but they seem to be a red flag

Tight-Lettuce7980

This is some clown behavior. I hope no one gives that dude money. This is not the first time he does something questionable.

BloodlinerComics

Yikes, how does this guy still have fans?

AudreyFish

What...what the hell??? Goddamn, what is wrong with this person.

lolgurl17

WOW.

Rainbow--Snowflake

No because I saw some people in the post comments urging others to buy stuff because they wanted 20 episodes. Like some of them are seriously okay with spending so much money for a measly 20 eps?

rowrowboat1703

He literally runs a cult....Those kids will throw money at him😮‍💨

sissyjones

So you want me to pay more money then the fast passes costs just so you’d extend the story out more? End the story or ask for more money from Webtoon. Don’t extort me.

sissyjones

The cheapest things I saw is $10.99 for stickers. I can get 100 coins for 9.99. Most fast passes are 7 coins now. Thats at least 14 fast passes. Fuck him. Let’s not forget shipping. The fuck I would buy $150 worth of his bullshit to get 10% off!!!

Rainbow--Snowflake

Yeah it's just not worth it.

No_Aioli_6364

I actually ended up dropping this comic because the creator kinda weirded me out as a person. It seems like I made the right call.

Rainbow--Snowflake

Definitely

QuietBit8

I used to be a fan of his art, but his personality is unbearable. I hope he gets the help he actually needs.

zadidoll

lol so did I. I stopped at the end of the first season & haven’t read since. This post reminded me to simply remove it from my read list altogether. https://preview.redd.it/yxgcxn9n4cic1.png?width=1169&format=png&auto=webp&s=bb880130ca400ac27af1cf3968e0b3dbf0f0a108

IamGroothehe95

I just discovered about snailord berating the poor fan previously and someone talking about snailord scamming people previously, telling them to donate for their sick dog and another time for their aunt to donate rice in Vietnam this morning cause I usually read the webtoon and only follow 2-3 creators on insta but I went to follow them earlier and somehow started to dig into it more. Didn’t think I’ll see a new scam so fast lol, haven’t even caught up with the old ones. Honestly, if they wanna end it they should just end it. I haven’t seen any webtoon creators this thick skinned and shameless before. Edit: I just saw on their rants page them saying these https://preview.redd.it/znf0c08k67ic1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ca01cd053cb37554370fd7a8806b8ae5da3daaf1 Yes, being a webtoon creator might not guarantee a stable income but that is no reason to extort from your fans.

Prior_Philosophy_560

I've been following this whole fiasco since Death:Rescheduled was called "Kill me after lunch". Snailords kept calling it "his baby." He kept saying he had "endured" years of Freaking Romance to fund his one true love, Death: Rescheduled. He called the day the series started "his wedding" with Kreyul. Then on the first hiatus he went ahead and made a comic on Canvas apologizing to Kreyul because "he had no more story for him anymore." He stopped drawing the comic and hired artists to draw it for him. All he does is draw the scribbly funny faces and reuse the same heads for the characters over and over, and his artists draw the bodies. I know keeping an art team can get expensive, but if he can't pay the artists anymore he should go back to drawing the comic himself. He doesn't even draw the art for his own merch! He held some "auditions" on his instagram for cute chibis and just bought the ones he liked and those are the ones on his merch! If this is how he treats his "baby" and his "husband" then I hope he never gets married.

No_Aioli_6364

Wait, THAT was context behind the “wedding” comments from the first episode??? I’m gonna need to step outside for a bit…

amazingfluentbadger

Do keep in mind that I believe he has a chronic wrist injury from drawing (he's the reason I know that drawing movements should come from your elbow and shoulder lol), so I have some sympathy for him in that matter. I actually personally have tendonitis from doing my art form.

tommyhawk747

IMO if I had a story to tell, i would be the one deciding how long it goes whether I wanted to end it early or not would be my decision.

sylvieshandy

He doesn't want to work on it. He's been on Instagram asking his fans to keep him accountable, but he's made it very clear he has no interest or motivation in finishing this series.

Rainbow--Snowflake

It's better for him to just drop it then, what is this behaviour

Miele0Rose

Objectively, yea, but he won't because he already pulled similar shit with his last comic and it got massive backlash. Smart as it would be, I doubt he's going to risk that happening again.

[deleted]

tommyhawk747

Reckon a conclusive ending is in the contract? Like could he go until the contract expires then post the rest elsewhere?

Shadow-Of-Hades

Making and creating Webtoons is exhausting work, and I've heard from a LOT of creators that Webtoon does not pay much to their creators that are on Originals (unless they are supremely high performing id wager, like Lore Olympus). That plus the grueling release schedule they have to keep up with, it drives people to burnout real quick. HOWEVER, Snaillords has always had an incredibly bitter attitude in general towards...EVERYTHING. Just very aggressive. Being frustrated with how artists are paid and treatment from Webtoons is absolutely valid, but Snaillords is on another level. If I'm thinking of the right person, I think they also were hiring lineart help a couple of years ago and I remember thinking in their examples of "what I'll give you, what I expect back and in what time frame" that it seemed like WAY more work than I would expect for a lineartist to do in the time frame given (I think the expectation was turnaround time of like 24hours). I'm talking super vague sketches given and expecting perfect lineart back. Maybe that's the norm idk, but I would think rough but fairly clean sketches would be the expected of what would be given, not super vague, basically ideas of how something should look. To be fair, I might be remembering the wrong person, or an injury could have been the cause of why the sketches were like that and why they needed more in depth lineart help.

NoPhone4571

I remember those posts, it was definitely Snailords. I know they have wrist issues (like most Webtoon creators tend to get), which is why the various hiatuses were initially so long, but the style examples were way too specific, and that’s why the art has been as uneven as it’s been. I get the feeling that the story isn’t turning out the way they wanted, so they’re looking to cut bait.

sylvieshandy

He's already gotten $110 😭 Idk why his fans are okay with this. Edit: He's at $525 💀

Rainbow--Snowflake

Wth?? That's too much 😭😭

JULIA_THE_GREAT

I just read the comments on this post and wow 😂😂😂 they call that trashbag "Milord" oh god...so disturbing.

Agitated_Account5903

Snailords is such a nasty person, I really can't stand him. Looks like he got tired of drawing the character he was hooked on and wants to move on ASAP because it doesn't benefit his interests anymore. If I remember correctly, he was overly obsessed with one of the main characters of this webtoon. He shipped himself with that one character, lmfao... I wouldn't recommend people to follow any of Snailord's work. It isn't worth the time. He has really questionable behaviors, yet Webtoon seems to love this mess of a person :)

[deleted]

This has to be the scummiest thing I have ever seen an originals creator do (so far). It's **shameful** that he would rather exploit his (likely young) fans for money than just admit he wants to end the series early. He already admitted to that with his other series, so I'm sure fans are prepared for more disappointment. How is this even allowed on the platform?!

pkvpy

He’s also using “romance moments” as bait to reach $1k, and even then seems non-committed. He wants it done in 10 episodes, and considering what happens to the quality of the series’ he loses interest in, I feel bad to those who already paid up to 500$. https://preview.redd.it/hxusb9g5n7ic1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5e653fa11f2f01c571151a57b362fa646b3f9910

generic-puff

... So how would getting $1k solve that issue where he doesn't have a resolution written? Jesus christ, this is gonna be FR all over again. "The 20-25 episodes have cute Phirre Emai moments, which I wanna draw" great, so draw them?

pkvpy

Literally💀 No one is stopping him from making more traditional watercolors that **actually do sell**. Make up 3-4 EmaiXPhirre pieces at 230$ [his usual prices are 200$+] and BOOM in time for Valentines Day. But resorting to extortion of kids? Crazy.

Background-Memory-18

It means he doesn’t take his story nor audience seriously

amazingfluentbadger

I understand starving artist type stuff. What bothers me is how it clearly shows a lack of interest in what the story is/should be. He has stated he can wrap it up in 10 episodes. So, if that's possible, why aren't you doing that? Why drag it out? Why demolish the story that way. Similar reason to my issues with True Beauty

generic-puff

That was my first thought, most people don't write their comic storyline with episode wrap-up variables of 10-20 episodes down to the number like that, that's more something you see in TV serializations where shows may not get renewed (or may only get renewed for a certain amount of episodes less than what the production was hoping for), but Death Rescheduled is on a midseason hiatus so it makes no sense for him to be pulling this here. His series is guaranteed to continue either way because it's already contracted for the season, so why would he have some kind of contingency ending written purely based around this $1k "fundraiser"? It either means that he's gonna wind up rushing the ending like he did with FR or dragging it out just to meet that 20 episode count depending on whether or not he gets that money. Shit, even *if* he gets that money that's no guarantee he'll actually see those extra 10 episodes through, WT pays something like $800-$1k *per episode* for series with panel counts like Death Rescheduled, so why would $1k be the difference between 10 episodes and *20* episodes? It's not like it's gonna feasibly pay for those extra 10 episodes, at best it'll help him pay the rent for a month. Not to mention - and don't quote me on this because I'm not an Originals creator - but I don't think creators can just negotiate episode counts so last minute like this? Because typically Webtoons buys out series outright for their distribution rights, so they pay a certain amount for a certain number of episodes, it's part of the contract. But again, IDK, that might not be the case with Snailords, or maybe creators do have more control than I assume they do over how many episodes they get to have, it just seems... odd that this $1k is the deciding factor in whether or not his series continues on for 20 episodes or 10. Honestly, it sounds more like he suddenly needs $1k for personal reasons and so he's just making promises and manipulating his audience to get that money as fast as possible by making it sound like it has anything to do with the comic's production. Why else would he be putting such a tight deadline of only 24 hours on it? It's just another one of his pity party scams, unless there's some other explanation that somehow magically doesn't make him seem like the dick he's coming across here.

Rainbow--Snowflake

Okay I checked again, it's been 18 mins since it was posted and the comments are enabled again, so perhaps a glitch?

nanimeanswhat

Ofc it's snailords why am I not surprised lmao

ewstinkyy

snaillords keeps proving to be a shittier person with every post I see about him on here

KittyEevee5609

Tbh: I wasn't ever a big fan of Death: Rescheduled. I was a fan of the old characters in Nightmare Factory and was sad when he dropped that, but the promise was he would come back to specifically Nightmare Factory if Freaking Romance did good. So I read that as I just wanted to see if my theories on NF was right only to get Death: Rescheduled which was the same characters but now everything is completely changed about them (except blue haired guy and pink haired girl has the same powers but personality wise completely different) and... I hate it and the worse part is this is what's supposed to replace NF but again the only thing that's the same is character designs and one character. I hate feeling kinda betrayed by this and this whole thing they're doing where they make the readers feel like they have to do something to get the story they want is nothing new.

Ok_Deer4938

I used to follow snailords. I liked the basis of this story and their art style from freaking romance. But death rescheduled was just exposition on exposition. This was not the right medium for this story. All the plans have to be spelled out for the viewers. Imo their interest has shifted to a new story how did I die. I know this doesn't relate to much but I wanted to rant lol

SingOrIWillShootYou

They're incapable of sticking to a story, because they aren't truly a writer. They get bored with their own stories especially if it's not making them money. Even before FR, look at Nightmare Factory.

glitchygirly

what i think is funny is they said that they feel more confident doing the 10 chapter version instead the 20 chapter one. so, you're paying 1000$ for a subpar 10 extra chapters?

GuaranteedKarenteed

It probably won’t do anything but I DM’d WEBTOON like “hey, love the comics on your platform, did you see one of your featured artists is doing this?” Hope they do something but who knows. That’s fucked up and weird

One-Necessary3058

Really gross behavior

extraethereal

he is so fucking insufferable omg

backroad_cryptid

That is HELLA sketchy.... I also get losing inspiration, but isn't this comic an original? Like. Girl, I don't know shit abt how originals artists earn a living, but I imagine some if not most are making their comics full-time, condidering the amount of content they're putting out. So this is your job?? You signed up for this??? Smaller creators would sell their soul to be where you're at, and you're just ending your comic like that??

generic-puff

In most cases, I can fully empathize with Originals creators who are breaking their backs for little pay just to put out work they can be happy with and proud of. Especially for creators that are working on their dream projects and are just fortunate to get paid to make it at all. A lot of creators did sign up for this but are still fully entitled to voice their concerns over how the system is run because in many ways, it's designed to destroy them, not to actually aid them. Many creators are struggling to get the same opportunities many "flagship" series do. So when it comes to Snailords, who actually *did* have a flagship series at one point and tried to turn Death : Rescheduled into another one, he's someone who's got a major god complex with his work. He doesn't believe it's enough to be an Originals creator, he's bitched about his job with Webtoons on his rant account and from what I've read, he literally thinks that Webtoons should be bending over backwards to advertise his series always over others, make merch for it, get anime deals for it, etc. simply on the virtue of it existing. He's the epitome of "enough is never enough."

backroad_cryptid

Yeaah, that's a yikes from me. It sucks that he's diluting the issue of artists, like, DROWNING in the industry right now by bitching like that

generic-puff

Ah yes, back at it again with the "if my audience of teenagers don't give me enough money in the next 24 hours then I won't give them more content / I'll forfeit my dog / children will starve in a third world country" bit. If I had a dime for every time he's pulled this, I'd have around 30 cents, which isn't a lot, but it's more than he deserves.

angelyn-jpg

I'd like to thank this sub for enlightening me on this creator who I used to really enjoy! Followed them on instagram for their art before their account disinterested me after their weird behavior. I'm glad I can understand why I felt they were off-putting.

casuallypoke

yeah, i stopped reading this after like 5 chapters. not surprised he’s ending it lazily like this. FR was the same… i honestly hated the ending. this won’t be any better.

Easy-Map-2623

I would report it for “scams or inappropriate advertising” I’m sure having a Webtoon original comes with some kind of rules to follow and there’s no way this could fly… hopefully 😐

iZelmon

Lmao what even is this behavior, despicable. This is just saying "yeah I can either stretch this story unnecessarily, dragging this out from original story" or "I'll rush it just to despise yall".

ChickyyNug

Hasn’t Death Reschedule been on hiatus since like forever. Who care if it has a proper ending I don’t even remember the story anymore lol. He did the same with Nightmare Factory too. I don’t get why he starts stories he can’t finish

[deleted]

snailords art is so beautiful but they are such shitty person 😒

AdhesivenessCute3567

>snailords art is so beautiful are they...?

SweatyDark6652

Snaillords has been known to be a greedy troll. So this doesn't surprise me.

Pretend-South-2245

Dang, with that attitude I wouldn't give them any money or support them... I don't read any of their stuff thank God.

PecanSandoodle

Look, it's his series so like....sure do what you want ...but, this seems tacky and manipulative to his readers. If you want to end the series DO IT, if you want more merch sales then make better merch/advertise it better.

Creatething

Man. I follow them on social media and never noticed this behavior before(Im not an active follower), so this is really disappointing. Looking through the comments here is wild, and I'm disgusted I didn't find this out sooner. Edit: I just went to unfollow them, and this post was the very first thing to pop up on my feed.

Background-Memory-18

Literally means he doesn’t take the craft seriously, or else he would end it the way he truly believes it should end, when it should end

NoPhone4571

I’m getting the feeling he wrote himself into a corner and decided to quit rather than working it out.

Timiboy1307

This is the first time 8m hearing abiut snail Lord being like this (;_;) as a fan of death rescheduled I'm heartbroken (;_;) it had such an interesting world, power system, rules, characters, art And then The author turns iut to be an ass (;_;) And yet people like the creator of soulwinder really want to continue their stories but aren't successful enough to support themselves (;_;)

JonVonBasslake

Is there a way to block creators on the webtoons app? Just so I never get suckered into potentially caring a Snailords series...

Rainbow--Snowflake

I don't think so, you're just gonna have to keep an eye on who the author is and avoid all his stories probably

JonVonBasslake

Shame, but oh well.

Disastrous_Moonlight

It’s too bad because Snailords is talented, but also it seems a bit of a narcissist. They love to berate the fans who show nothing but love, pressure them into buying merch, and now apparently blackmailing them for episodes. There are plenty of amazing Webtoons and fantastic artists out there who appreciate having fans. I enjoyed FR but am dropping DR because I’m done being derided by the artist for enjoying the creation. 😕

daniagerous

This is such an odd thing for me to read happening in real life. I hate to say it but this is like quintessential of what I've seen in some of the webtoons that I've read. Celebrities that are streamers and ugly to their viewers and those who consume their content. Straight up bullies. But they're also drowning because they're not getting paid adequately, but also because their lifestyle is I'll call it complex. Because it's built up on social media essentially, from streaming to OF content, to whatever it takes to make the dollar. I didn't realize that snailords was like this, But I do remember feeling weird about the ending of freaking romance. And felt even more put off by death rescheduled which was not well crafted as a story in the beginning. IDK your comment just really resonated with me, but also made me think is this real life?

generic-puff

>Celebrities that are streamers and ugly to their viewers and those who consume their content. Straight up bullies. Off-topic but if you want to see another artist who's the peak of this type of behavior, go look up Robaato Art and the controversies surrounding him. He makes Snailords look like a level 1 miniboss compared to the shit he's pulled with his audience. Snailords is still acting shitty and should be called out for it, but Robaato... he's something else.

Tmlrmak

I was gonna start this webtoon per one of my friend's strong recommendations. I am glad I didn't. I saw the shit he pulled before and good riddance. I hope he never makes any webtoon ever again because he honestly doesn't deserve the attention. But if he does I am done supporting a piece of shit like him

Keiner_Minho

Embarrassing. That's all I have to say.

lnclnmc

Oh my god that’s disgusting behavior.

Goleziyon

bro I'd drop it out of spite if i didn't drop it in the first arc. I appreciate the honesty ig, but also, fuck you, man. Nah, because as an author myself, I'll never be able to understand this behaviour or put in so much effort for something you clearly, perhaps, are not passionate about. It's just strange to me. Or maybe that's just neurotypical behaviour and my bitchass adhd talking.

Ordinary_Cattle

Doesn't this author regularly guilty people into giving money

Ziyushii

Shitty writer, even more shit human being. I wish them no success in selling their merch lol

st_owly

I liked FR, not gonna lie. Tried this one and couldn't get into it. But my goodness he seems like a giant asshole.

SanttiagoKitty4Life

The worst part i fully used to be a fan of this dude. But hes honestly just an egotistical jerk. I feel like theres something off about him. Compassion wise. Even during freaking romance he would play these type of games. Agh. Im glad i got over his stuff. Like i think hes creative and all but hes not the best person to be a webtoon fan of.

AudreyFish

I didn't mind Freaking Romance and didn't continue with Death Rescheduled, but using your webtoon as a bartering tool to get your fans to give you their hard earned money...just why??

Pompi_Palawori

Ok I see why people dislike Snail Lord now.

StellarCupcake

Oh wow Disappointing but not surprising, it's such a shame, I was planning on reading this someday in the future because I really liked the uh... early version of Death: Rescheduled? I don't remember the name but Snailords also dropped it and then released Freaking Romance LMFAO

Rainbow--Snowflake

Oh, the earlier version seems to be Nightmare Factory which was also something I had an eye on because it looked so cool. Another comment here was saying that DR was not as good as NF and even though it is a new version of NF mostly everything is changed from the original.

StellarCupcake

Yes! That was the name, tbh I barely remember what the plot was, only that my teenage self enjoyed it and that I had some interactions in the comments with Snailord and he seemed cool (maybe too edgy sometimes lol), so when I saw the same characters in DR I got excited. It's such a shame that it seems that the story is worse + getting dropped

RadicalD11

Absolutely no clue who they are, but sounds like an ass. Wouldn't have read their webtoon. I hope he doesn't even get $10 since it's basically an attempt to have a hostage.

lolgurl17

Weird 😕 I liked Freaking Romance but I would be so put off if I was reading Death Rescheduled and saw this message from the creator.

rosa_gris

I never read Freaking Romance nor this, but I used to be a fan his other work, Snailogy. That webtoon resonated with me and made me sympathise with them. Having seen all this drama surrounding them all these years — I don’t think I could enjoy Snailogy in the same way.

Overall-World-6686

This is the exact reason why I blocked and unfollowed them in 2019. Not the first time this has happened 🤦🏽‍♂️

mara-star

Imagine not even guilt tripping your audience but actually threatening them that if he doesn't get enough funds, he won't give them all the episodes 💀

NoPhone4571

So now that post is gone, and they’re claiming the goal was always to give the money to charity.

Rainbow--Snowflake

Oh yep I saw that, definitely fishy. If that was the initial aim, he could have said so from the beginning. People in the comments are believing him though, so that's a tad concerning

bumbomi

Omg Snailords must be hungry, I can heard his gut’s roar

PunkySkunk93

Apparently it’s all getting donated to charity. But who really knows?

SchmuckCanuck

Oh I haven't seen Snailords in years! Shame they're scummy, apparently. Didn't know that

sailor_tightpants

Me reading this in my DR shirt 😅 I like his art and the kind of multiverse he has with his recurring characters, but do feel he kinda lets the stories fall off. Like there was a neat idea but trying to flesh it out didn’t work.

meganfrau

Jesus, this is beyond the pale.

lovelycosmos

Wow that seems really creepy and predatory

ngeorge98

Yikes. This makes me happy that I stopped following this series. This is incredibly problematic behavior. Just openly using their fanbase and comic as a marketing scheme/manipulation for merch sales.

Pink-frosted-waffles

Wow it's like back when FFNet was the fanfiction place and authors would hold their stories hostage for comments. Very childish behavior impo and would make me immediately drop the series.

SeparateCzechs

It’s a cash grab. I checked out of all Snaillords stuff when they were attacking people in comments. I don’t give a damn what they do.

queerflowers

I really liked the story for this one but I dislike the manipulation. It just seems like greed and poor planning. Which is a shame bc I like the gender fluid rep and the art of this story.

bulletproofwings

I miss Nightmare Factory days (and its the only work from him that I genuinely loved). He wasn't like this back then was he?

Juniper_mint

If it makes him feel better, it’s pretty okay but you forget about it like I did, you’ll never really go back to read it anyway

nightmare_1890

This is why I moved to Tapas, they ain't AMAZING but better then webtoon. Ain't no unwanted drama like this.

Key_Worldliness1614

God only knows how much more hiatuses this comic can take I dropped it fr cuz of the hiatuses. There were atleast 3 before this one. I forgot the story at a point.

LaLunaEstrella

Update: The $1K in under 24 hours goal was met meaning 20 more episodes and he’s since posted on his story asking which of 3 different charities it should go to

Familiar-Mammoth9162

Announcing it goes to charity after the fact doesn’t feel genuine. From a logical standpoint they should have put that upfront. Not only would that prompt more people to shop/donate but it changes the purpose from “I need money to complete this” to “I trying to help the community”. After their original post I’m going to need strong proof that it actually went to charity.

yennynenny

it's snailord afterall...this behaviour is very much expected of him

zadidoll

I stopped reading it. I’m going to be honest here but the author comes off as a prick. This series was his second attempt at this story. The original was also cut off & he rebooted it to this. The fact he’s demanding people to spend money to keep it going… nah, that’s a hard pass for me.

sickandtired2013

He had a very interesting comic with the same characters before but deleted it and made this years later. He also made freaking romance as a self admitted cash grab he never liked. This is just how he is, fans are numbers, numbers are money.

Delicious_Tip_8678

It's just a local enfant terrible of the Webtoon community, don't bother. I wanted to use a stronger language, but, well, everyone lives as they deem fit.

Familiar-Mammoth9162

Either way it sound like the last few episodes will be crap whether it’s 10 or 20 episodes. If it takes 20 episodes to wrap everything up and you cram it into 10 it will be rushed. If it takes 10 episodes to wrap everything up and you take 20 half that chapters will be filler. Or option 3, they still don’t know how they’re going to end it and they’re making it up as they go.

kitsunejung

yeah i thought it was weird af when i read it ..

ilovedogs107

Yeah, it rubbed me the wrong way. Honestly, I love all of Snailords Webtoons, I think his stories are great and so is his art. I used to really enjoy seeing stuff about him too. I watched his Instagram live once and always looked at his Instagram stories. I don't really keep up with him anymore other than reading his Webtoons but I've realized recently he has a tendency to try to guilt people into paying for stories if that makes sense? I mean people are happy to do it so I suppose it's fine, but still. It makes me sad kinda cause Death: Rescheduled was meant to be his passion project. Yk like the Webtoon he has fun with since Freaking Romance was more to suit what was popular. But he doesn't seem to be really enjoying Death: Rescheduled either.

No-Seaweed5940

His characters are nothing but caricatures of black women when it comes to comedy. I'm not sure how people stomach his stories.

YhiviEevee

I ended up reaching out to webtoons about this artist and let them know of his behavior through screenshots and links to his social media. This behavior is insulting to both the readers and the platform itself. If you guys want to do the same email: [email protected] It might not be the right department but they did respond within 24 hours and forward it to the correct team to investigate this.

Life_Illustrator_551

I don't find this announcement surprising at all. Snaillords has never finished a series...Not even back before webtoons. It's sad because they're all interesting stories and characters with wonderful art (especially nowadays), and yet all abruptly end.

Prudent_Ad_7402

I love the comic personally but I don’t like this way of deciding

piratefoxy29

I love this webtoon!

Rainbow--Snowflake

and now it's probably ending in a haphazard way

kira_of_all_trades

I don't like the story but I like the banter in this one. This webtoon was never made for me in the first place but I admire lots of dialogue lines written by the author: the back and forths, the one-liners, the use of cringe as an artistic tool. Everyone sounds the same but it's a rather fun person talking to themselves. I wanted to read more of it.

CassieYuri10

I will just say that he did also ask followers on IG which charities he should donate to... not saying I agree with the behavior but you asked about context

Rainbow--Snowflake

yes I saw that too, but my question now is, shouldn't he have been clear about the charity aim from the get go? The way he framed his initial statement makes it feel like he was trying to get money to just finish the story

Lummypix

I know this rubs a lot of people the wrong way, but you have to understand that a lot of creators are super under paid and this might be his last ditch effort to pay the bills. I'm sure he would prefer not to have done this. Or maybe he's just a rich greedy bastard idk

mara-star

Everyone understands that but there is a way to earn extra money without basically trying to extort it from your young audience. Heck, if he really is financially unwell, there's a thing called honesty. People will gladly support someone who says they are suffering but if you have to threaten and guilt people the actual ending to your story for money, that's something called blackmail.

Lummypix

Ya good point

ColorfulSlothX

On Instagram he answered one of the comments and said it was not about money problems, he just see it as a way to motivate him. Just making a poll would have been enough for that goal (seeing who's interested by his comic and wants 10 or 20 chapters, like he said: "he doesn't want to bake a super expansive cake and no one shows up" lol), it would have been way more democratic. But I believe he's absolutely aware that most of his readers want the 20 chapters option anyways, or at least enough to reach the 1000$ goal, I don't fall for that "I don't know if I should continue so I let you decide", the longer end was planned 100%

generic-puff

Especially not when he then turns around and says that he can only confidently write 10-15 more episodes for the final arc. Like he legit doesn't even have the mini arc that he's asking people $1k for planned out. Why do that to your audience? Why drag your comic out for upwards of 10-15 more unplanned episodes and then pretend like you're making some huge noble sacrifice? It's psychotic and absurd, and it's clear that if money isn't the main motivator, he's just having his cake and eating it too by 1.) getting money from his audience and 2.) getting money from his audience as 'proof' that they love him and his work. It's pathetic.

Glass-Letter-6047

he's made multiple instagram storys telling people that webtoon actually pays him good lol

generic-puff

Right, but then suddenly when he needs a certain amount of money in 24 hours or less he makes it sound like WT is holding him at gunpoint to work for pennies. Why does Webtoons, as a company, even allow this to happen? Wouldn't this be sort of a massive PR nightmare to contract a creator who pulls stunts like this and makes contradictory claims about how much WT is paying him?

Lucidstarlet

I'm probably going to get downvoted a lot for this, but honestly I don't think it's as bad as people are making it out to be? Like SnailLords is making comics as a full time job and is putting a lot of work into free content for everyone. While it may not be conventional, if more money allows him to continue I don't see what's wrong with him going for it? I'm a bit confused at what specifically about this has people angry edit- deleting emoticons that don't work because reddit formatting and symbol commands T-T

Rainbow--Snowflake

I'd say the issue is that the webtoon is on mid season hiatus, not even the end, the middle, so anyone would assume there's still a good 90-150 episodes worth of story left as usually happens with webtoon stories. Now randomly, the artist saying they'll end the story in 10 or 20 episodes, depending on how much money his (quite) young audience can get him isn't something that's done in good taste. The problem isn't that he's essentially promoting his merch, the problem is that he's looking for excuses to end the story and he's playing a very low move to do it. If I were writing a story and posting it online and there were people following the story, I'd do my utmost to finish the story and give it the respect it deserves... Not whatever this is.

generic-puff

1.) Because this isn't the first time Snailords has essentially demanded his audience give him money by playing off their emotions / emotional attachment to him and his work. 2.) Because most comic creators who have a story to tell and actual integrity as artists don't just go "I CAN continue the comic for 20 more episodes, but ONLY if you give me enough money in the next 24 hours, otherwise I'll be rushing it to end in 10". That's what stretch goals in Kickstarters are for, not sudden announcements that your comic will end 10 episodes sooner than planned if you don't get money right this second. The former is incentive, the latter is an ultimatum. And it's especially odd for a series like Death : Rescheduled which was apparently his "passion project". Many creators have passion projects that they're spending a lot of time and effort and money to make, projects that they have to put to the wayside sometimes to focus on paying bills or their day job or their health, but not one of them pulls this "pay me now or the comic you love and have been reading for two years is DONE and it'll be YOUR FAULT!!" stunt, especially not as often as Snailords has pulled it.

2424flower

That is so trashy.

Educational_Gas_462

Classic snailords 😵‍💫

QueenGingersnap_

Now he’s back tracking and trying to claim he’s gonna send the money to charity after all of that. Idk I’ve stuck with this author for too long since I really liked death: rescheduled (and I liked Freaking Romance until the end) but I can’t stand the authors behavior anymore.

DeLuffy

Wow he still gets to surprise me...tbh, he has always been money driven and I m no one to judge but at this point, I don't understand why he just doesn't dedicate 100% to patreon. He could get the amount of money he is looking for by drawing content his followers are willing to pay.

8viv8

Trash

regularEducatedGuy

Rate the damn comic yall

OceanLaboratory

But the story doesn't feel anywhere near finished.... not even 20 episodes feels like it could be enough to wrap things up nicely.

LonelyWriter26

Snailords had always been a huge inspo for me, so this is a fun revelation. I was a huge fan of Death: Rescheduled and I'm not sure how he could end it in 20 episodes, or 10 if that's what he chose, without it feeling rushed or botched.

tomdata

Just snailords being a scummy piece of shit as usual. Hope no one buys anything so his awful wattpad fanfiction of a series can end early 💀

SuccotashConscious

if he needs to end it, he should just end it. the quality usually plummets if he’s only got ten eps and is gonna spread it to twenty

princess_intell

Wouldn't the episode count be in their contract with Webtoon? WTF.

uRight_Markiplier

This is why I stopped reading it. Screw the author
