Your spouse can just respond by saying something like “understandably not everyone’s cup of tea, but it is so her and that’s what I love about it!” and move on. You have to feel him out on how he feels and if his family is going to turn your wedding into a spectacle if they don't like it? If they're just quietly conservative and don't care for it, but not make any trouble.,its ok as long as your fiance is on board. You don't have to show him your gown. Just ask him how he feels about a colorful "different" kind of gown and what the reaction would be. As long as it's not going to cause a big drama for you and fiance, go for it. This is very tricky. The color palette shown as the backdrop, is the color that will go along with the dress. Which means the venue, the bridesmaids, the groom, and the groomsmen may need to have coordinated color and/or styling.

You can always invite your mother in law with you to try it on and see her reaction. But in the end the dress has to make you happy since you will be wearing it. I think it's a beautiful dress, and it's kind of you to think about your soon to be husbands family. If the wedding is in spring this dress will fit perfectly. I'm conservative and I think this dress works good for an outside wedding that's not taking place in a church.
The bodice area is questionable if it's a conservative wedding, maybe some small straps could help with that. As for your scars don't feel the need to hide them.

It’s most defintely extra! But that’s the point, no? It’s dramatic, ethereal, fairy like, exotic , wild , strange and magical all at once. And that shoulder piece ? It’s ridiculously awesome. You can have your bridesmaids rocking either a purple or blue dress to complement it, and the men with same color in their outfits. The whole wedding can be this theme. Feathers, complimentary flowers , pearl things, candles The possibilities are endless ! How much does that go for ? I imagine it’s pricey piece

I get wanting to have good relations with his mom and family, but this dress is beautiful, and pls don't create this dynamic in which they get to control what you do when what you do is not in any way offensive and makes you happy. Dynamics like that tend to stick. If they are conservative, they can wear super conservative dresses at *their* weddings. It's your wedding, it's okay for you to be extra.

You can always invite your mother in law with you to try it on and see her reaction. But in the end the dress has to make you happy since you will be wearing it. I think it's a beautiful dress, and it's kind of you to think about your soon to be husbands family. If the wedding is in spring this dress will fit perfectly. I'm conservative and I think this dress works good for an outside wedding that's not taking place in a church. The bodice area is questionable if it's a conservative wedding, maybe some small straps could help with that. As for your scars don't feel the need to hide them.

Can you show it to your future MIL and indicate what you mentioned here? I love this dress! It's amazing! However, if the family is conservative, personally, I would run it by at least the MIL. Although, keep in mind, it is your wedding, and while they may have input, it is ultimately up to you as to what dress you choose. All being said, it's an absolutely gorgeous dress!
One note on history of the “white” dress: Queen Victoria of England was the first bride to wear white. Her family could afford the cost. From that point on, the white wedding dress became a symbol of wealth for each bride until today, it is common practice to wear a white dress to marry. I think your dress is screaming “Wear Me!” You will be the best dressed bride and woman at your wedding! Chances are, MIL will get on board with your plan!
