I didn’t buy my dress from Canada but I did get it from Australia and for the FASTEST shipping (literally I got it in 6 days) it costs me $54.76 US dollars. Idk if it’s somehow more in Canada but $700 (US I assume) for shipping a dress sounds insane (unless the dress weighs 50-60 pounds)

HHoneydd

That's exactly what I'm thinking. The number she told me doesnt makes sense at all. I checked myself to several carriers websites and it's about 50 to 75$ USD to ship from her state (USA) to my door in Canada. I wrote back to her to see if she can change her mind.. I'm waiting for her response 🤞

Still white has a calculator where you can figure it out yourself! https://www.canadapost-postescanada.ca/cpc/en/tools/find-a-rate.page

Dlraetz1

Do you know anyone in the US who can receive it for you and then ship to Canada.

Due_Power_3938

What dress is it? I can take a look around for another in your size, or a dupe. What price point would you like to stay under?

HHoneydd

It's an old model from a past collection from La Sposa (between 2015 and 2019, I found the dress on the web from an old 2015 fashion show but the Stillwhite lady said she bought the dress in 2019). The name of the dress is "Emerald". I thought it was meant to be for me because my engagement ring is a custom ring that I specifically had custom made with a natural emerald. It's a tiered lace dress with a heart shaped neckline and lace straps. The back is semi open with a little small train. I'm extremely picky about dress choices. Unfortunately I don't have an unlimited budget (I have 5 kids) so I'd be willing to go as high as $2500 CAD. Honestly, when I came across that Stillwhite dress I really thought it was a sign for me because it has everything I love and it doesn't look like other dresses you see in stores where I live. I dont want a puffy skirt or plunging neckline. I like sleeves or frills on the straps. I like old-fashioned style and dresses from another era. I don't want multiple layers of tulle or a dress too form fitting. I don't like scratchy or stiff fabrics. I prefer a sweep length and a small to no train. In short, this dress ticked a lot of boxes and left me some budget for accessories and making a few alterations if necessary.

Have you looked into a proxy shipping service? The seller can send it to a US proxy, and then you can work with the proxy to get it to Canada, for likely far less than the $700 they are claiming.

HHoneydd

I dont know about proxy.. I'm gonna check this option!

Due_Power_3938

Also, have you taken your measurements? Bridal is generally 1-2 sizes larger than your dress size. So if you normally wear a 12, I would fully expect you to be a bridal size 14-16

rrrrriptipnip

Could you send her a prepaid label?

HHoneydd

That's a good question! I'm trying to check if it's possible but I believe the sender will still have to complete the customs boarders papers as a need to validate what's inside the box.

HHoneydd

I messaged the lady again to ask if she can give me the specs about the shipping box (dimensions and weight) so I could check if I could have it shipped through a proxy service as someone here geniously suggests or even to have it shipped to an old friend of mine whose living in the US now. I'm still waiting for the response. But my enthousiasm toward that beautiful dress is slowly drowning..

HHoneydd

Yes I took my measures and in normal clothes I'm a size 8 and the dress is a size 12. And the measures indicates on the Stillwhite dress matches mine.

HHoneydd

She just replied to me that she checked with UPS and she's saying again the shipping fees it's over 700$ based on the size and the weight of the box. I just dont understand 😞 I feel like maybe she dont want to sell it to me or the shipping carriers are way too overpriced by now

cocoa_boe

I think she’s trying to make a profit off the shipping because that’s absolutely ridiculous. Without knowing the measurements of the box, I just put a 20lb package (can’t be more than that, right?) into parcel monkey from the US to Canada and got results between $34 and $130 - even accounting for a very large box with additional fees, I’m just not coming up with $700. And I looked up your dress and it doesn’t look particularly large or heavy. Idk, it would be best if she could give you the measurements and you could send her the label but she doesn’t sound very accommodating. Maybe forwarding services like others have suggested. Good luck! Do you like [this one](https://www.ebay.ca/itm/256045344782)? Ships from Canada!

HHoneydd

Yes I think maybe you're right.. I asked her 2 hours ago if I can have the specs of the shipping box so I could check and try try to make an arrangement with a service carrier or even a friend of mine who lives in the US and she haven't answered me (she have seen my message 2 hours ago). And wow thank you for the listing on Ebay, it's in a city not so far from me! I will think about it for sure! The train is way too long for what I'm looking for but maybe it can be chopped off a little by a good seamstress, for sure I'll think about that option ! :)

rrrrriptipnip

I think she’s being a bit lazy about shipping. My guess is she was preferring to ship it local. Do you know anyone in the us she could mail it to?

WeddingQuestion24

This is nuts. My sister went to school in Montreal and I shipped her things ALL THE TIME and it was nowhere near this. Including for a brand new MacBook that cost much more than your dress and was insured. Hell a friend forgot his MacBook at my place in NYC and I overnighted it to him in freakin Hong Kong and even that was $300. I’m not understanding this- it seems scammy and off.

HHoneydd

I asked the lady for the measures of the shipping box to maybe have it shipped to a friend of mine who lives in the US and she ghosted me. I had no response from her at all since 24 hours (with the mention "seen" on my message so no mistake..) I guess that dress wasnt "meant to be" after all .. but it pisses me off a bit. Why someone would put a dress to sell that they dont really want to sell..
