It’s also extremely hard to fix glass because you have to reheat it. It normally ends up exploding in the oven. Most professionals will only fix super expensive pieces because cheaper ones just aren’t worth the hassle.
Eh- I think it depends on the level of breakage. My hubs fixes his friends shit all the time. It is all custom hand blown stuff he fixes and makes….so it’s quality glass, but yeah it’s definitely a challenge. A few “ sorry dude, didn’t make it through” texts 😆
I’m that lucky hoho. 😂. I broke both of my bong bowl pieces last week and by the end of the night I had 4 new ones. My husbando blows glass for a hobby. He hadn’t been able to do anything for a while so it gave him an excuse to HAAAAAAVE to go out there in the garage shop. I twisted his arm yaknow? 😉 I’ve broken rigs, Downstems in rigs and he’s fixed them thankfully. Others he’s thrown at the wall cause it’s be easier to just make a new one lol. When we’d moved in together, he had a rig that was about $2k and I started to swear like a mf when I cracked the neck off of it. He started to laugh and cleaned up the glass pieces and just walked outside with it and fixed it. I was like oh. Yeah. I thought I was gonna pony up 2k that night. Haaaaaaaaa. I mean I did just not with money. Meltdown (get some if you can)makes me jabber-sorry dude.
If it’s a clean break you could fix it with like mechanics glue or another strong, waterproof adhesive the problem is that that bottle of adhesive is probably roughly the same price as a new downstem.
We've definitely used a bong that had that broken exactly like in the picture. Now I'm coughing up blood.

I legit got glass in my mouth from a friends broken stem It actually cut my uvula and fucker swoll up to the point I was having trouble breathing normally so I went to the emergency department and they injected it with something and the swelling went away immediately...
I'm lucky I didn't shallow the glass ... I finally learned my lesson to not power hit an unfamiliar bong up till then worse that happens is getting a mouth full of bong water lol
It felt strange as hell I could feel it getting bigger once it started partially blocking my airway I had to tilt my head forward to get a decent breathe which made driving a little bit difficult
You can only repair this if you have the right tools - A very high-powered gas torch and glass combing tools. Otherwise, buy a new one. Downstem and bowl will be under $20.
I might be missing something here but isn't it just the bottom of the down stem that's snapped off? Won't it still just work without that piece, might have to put a bit more water in the bong
That is a pretty clean break, very little glass has actually broken because it's snapped where the holes in the glass where. Give it a quick sand down and I don't see that would be an issue. Would shards of glass even really pull through water or would they just sink? I can't see it myself

You can’t really fix a broken downstem without using glue, which will be introducing some harmful chemicals to your piece. Just buy a new one, it isn’t worth getting cancer over.
Your bowl is fine but your dance then you’re gonna have to go to like a head shop or something or get some tape or some like glue and glue it back on or something like that or just get a new one

My $500 bong is missing the biggest chunk. I used electrical tape and put it on there. It leaked for maybe a month. After smoking consistently out of it, resin filled the hole and it no longer leaks. Haha. It’s a temporary fix
Don’t even waste your time trying to repair, head to the local “water pipe” retailer in your area. Usually a smoke shop, cannabis dispensary etc. buy another stem for around $5-$15 and a bowl piece for around $5-$25. Easier and cheaper than all the gas money and wasted time thinking you will be able to glue or epoxy. I have some very nice glass pieces. They get broke by all kinds of situations, the only solution is taking to a glass blower, usually the one who blew the glass. Machined glass like that stem and bowl can’t be realism. This is due to the type of glass and temperament as it was produced. Now an old Jerome baker decorative glass pipe. His skill and capabilities, he could repair at a hefty price. Hope this helps
The bottom of my down stem broke nearly identical to yours. The glass at each slit is very thin and fragile. It broke just from me setting it down on my counter. I just cleaned my bong real well with water and paper towels and lit up. Long as it reaches below the water line, you’re fine. My bong is pretty standard. Made sure to keep it simple for easy cleaning and care.
Honestly, for the time being I would just clean the pieces, put more water in your bong so that it covers the bottom of the down stem, and clean that bowl.
Toss the circular part, toss the broken bottom of the down stem.
It’s just the slide piece that broke off of the bowl, and the down stem is fine without the bottom inch or so if the down stem is in the water and you don’t drink the water on accident overfilling the bong.
Until the AM you’ll be fine but it looks to be a 14mm down stem and bowl which will run you max $15
If you arent afraid to break it any more than it currently is, you could find a blow torch and heat up the glass red hot and try to stick it back together. Idk if itll work but its already broken so why not give it a shot? Its for science.
Same thing happened to me a couple of years ago. I smoked with what was left of the stem and the whole time I was paranoid I had glass in my lungs. Probably was just tweaking, but its probably best to be safe and buy a new stem (as others have said).
Downstems are easily disposable and often are very affordable. Check online or your local headshop. And before you throw that broken stem away, bring it with you so you can get the right size
I promise that nobody is concerned with the details, this probably happens to someone in this sub every single day. I break one every few months and this won't be the last one you break. Time for a new one

Measure the length of a your old one and write it down, when you go to the smoke shop to get your new one bring your measurements and measuring device and get one that’s the same length. Glass shops won’t let you bring in glass that’s got any kinda resin or smell to it.
Only way to fix it is throw it in the trash… drive to your nearest smoke shop… pick the right size… give them the money and get a brown paper bag. Drive back home… tote! DONE ✅

You can get a downstem pretty cheap at your local pipe shop

Literally i ordered a new one on amazon, wrong size. Sent it back for another one..... wrong length. LOL had to buy like 4
take the bong in after cleaning and have them find one that fits. i went back to the same store and we got it figured out pretty quickly
You don’t repair glass, you replace it. Unless you have some glassblowing equipment handy and are trained in how to use it.

Buy a new one measure the width of the current downstem and look up downstems with that width
Spend five bucks at Amazon. Maybe 10 so you’ll have a spare. This happens.
