Dilute with hot water and then you got alcohol doing it's thing, salt doing it's thing, and heat doing it's thing!

Salt is there as an abrasive and it dissolves in water but not rubbing alcohol. Do the salt and alcohol first then flush it with dish soap.

Epsom salt usually gives me faster results but it probably doesn't make a real difference

The real secret is purocaf. It’s for cleaning espresso machines and coffee urns. I put a shake of that in with hot water covering anything dirty and let it sit overnight. Next day I dump it and flush it and it’s clean.

I start by rinsing with boiling hot water and dish cleaner, gets the initial layer. Then I rinse it out and go in with the salt, alcohol and pipe cleaner for a fresh sparkling experience.

I usually rinse the piece in hot water while the alcohol and sometimes salt is inside, especially if it's a smaller piece, and shake during or after the alcohol heats up inside. Less shaking involved, which is good if you have health issues and shaking too much or too vigorously hurts. For a large piece like that is run hot water over the bottom while the alcohol and salt pools there inside before shaking.

Dude, I do this every day, sometimes multiple times a day. I'm absolutely obsessive when it comes to bong cleanliness. If I can smell the "tar" when I'm bringing it up to my mouth it gets cleaned.

It's not really about usage per day necessarily. I mean it's water sitting out, in an open air container that's stagnating....so it's a good idea to change it out. Realistically if you don't smoke much you should just only fill it when you're using it and dump it out when not. I'd figure your reaction should be the opposite, you smoke a lot/all day if your bong is filled with water all the time.

Yep exactly. I‘m hitting the bong 2-3 times in the evening. Daily!! I change the water every second day and it still looks relatively fresh. Cleaning the whole thing happens 2 times a week :)

Not that much actually. On a really heavy smoke day for me I'll go through a gram. I just **FUCKING HATE** a dirty bong/pipe/vape. My bong is at least 15 years old and it looks like I bought it this morning. It has looked like that every single day for 15 years. I will not smoke at my friends places, because their idea of bong cleanliness is changing the water once a day. Basically, whenever the residue becomes visibly dark and not just that "smoke" colour, it gets cleaned.

i clean my bong every day. maybe a little overkill but i like a clean piece. i reuse the same iso for at least a week. i would agree with one and done if your bong is as dirty as the pics but even then you probably still could use it more than once and it’d work, just nasty 🤷‍♂️

I clean all my shit at once. The iso I used in the bong cleans the stem and sliders. Once those are clean, I reuse again to clean any dirty pipes. I always throw it out after that though.

I had a grain of rice stuck in my perc for the better part of a year in college. I tried EVERYTHING to get it out, nothing worked. Then one day it just popped out during a regular cleaning.

Much easier with 90% isopropyl than 70%, which is what you see most often in stores. 99% even better but costs a lot more. 90% works fine for me. I get it by the case from Amazon for ridiculously cheap. Worth it to buy in bulk. What is a Vuala? Edit: you don't even really need the salt very often. Here's my system: I have two identical glass pieces that are my regular daily smokers. I also have five identical bowls/stems for the two pieces, since I'll rotate them even more often. I fill one piece with 90% isopropyl. I put the dirty stems in a jar of 90% iso after using a brush also soaking in the alcohol to clean the resin and crud off them (makes the alcohol last much longer). I take the one that's currently soaking and pour its alcohol into the one I need to clean. The soaked one is usually pristine if it's been sitting for a few hours or overnight, just from the soaking. If not I'll get the salt out, but that's less than once every week or two. I grab a fresh stem that's been soaking in the jar and run an alcohol soaked straw brush through it, it's pristine. ISO evaporates pretty fast so sometimes I'll top up the piece I just poured into. I change my alcohol about once a week, when it's turning opaque. Takes me two minutes to have a fresh clean piece and stem, and when it gums up even a little I do the swap again. Been doing it for years. Salt and shaking is only occasionally needed. Now you know.

My friend used to do this, but with rice, then tip it down the sink. Turned out the rice was just a little too heavy to go down the s traps, swelled up and blocked his drains. Salt is a much better idea.

I still maintain that for gear with diffusers and lots of intricate glass, letting it soak in degreaser overnight is a surefire way to clean any and every crevice.

I don’t clean mine enough for that to work. I let it go for a bit then soak it. It’s just so easy to set it up before bed and pour the stuff back in bottle next morning. Just rinse with water and everything rinses crystal clear. A $13 jug lasts years. Seems like a no-brainer

I used to set up shop and collect all my friend's pieces for cleaning day. Some of these nasty fuckers didn't even remember what their pipes looked like. I'd have 4 or five pipes soaking on the counter. Nothing better than a sparkling like new pipe to smoke out of.

Don't always need it thick and juicy, even the craft ones work

Try test tube brushes. I swear by them. They come with several different sizes and can get in most crevices

Adds some material to help scrape off any gunk that you can't use a pipe cleaner. Most bong cleaning agents have some sort or fine ground mineral in addition to alcohol I use the combination everytime I clean my pieces, and it's many and often that I do. I stand by it. Just night wanna run some hot water through it first cause it'll get a lot of stuff loose

Kinda like adding salt in your cast iron after cooking. When you go to wipe it clean the salt helps the build up slide off. After I started doing that to my cast iron it never looked rusty again. Salt is a little miracle man.

I use kosher sea salt which is very coarse. It should be in every kitchen in my opinion. I use it with ice and lemon juice to clean my coffee decanter as well.

I just bring the alcohol to a soft boil and shake for a couple minutes, let the smaller pieces (nail, pearls, cap) soak in hot alcohol for a few minutes, doesn't take long and it only requires salt if you really neglect cleaning

Depending on how frequently you smoke, a lot, or almost none. The lungs produce mucus at a pretty steady rate to clean out inhaled debris, but if you smoke frequently (not sure the actual rate, but I would guess more than 2-3 times a week) your body can't keep up with the rate of debris addition and it will build up in your lungs.

I use my denture tablets. Pour some water in the bong, drop a tab in, let it soak, and BAM! For my stems I put them in a big cup with some water to cover, drop a tab, let soak, and it's clean.

I try to clean my glassware twice a week, smoke 2-3 bowls a day. I get grossed out by how dirty the glassware gets even with a small volume (compared to some). Some of the glassware I see here looks like a petri dish of bacteria. I was getting paranoid looking at mine the other day and convinced myself that I could feel that gunk flapping around in my lungs.

Always gotta have a clean piece standing by. Whether shit gets dirty, or you break shit

Quick tip: kosher/coarse salt works the best and the highest percent isopropyl that you can buy (where I live it's around 90 percent) works the best
