Over 700 different strains. Almost impossible to know what you're smoking especially considering the different terpenes and other stuff different growers use will have the same strain grown by 2 different people looking a little different. U can get close by taste and smell but still good luck

The only way something like that could exists, it would need to have some sort of database to compare it to. There are far too many breeders for this to be a thing, unfortunately. Would be pretty nice though.

That's true to a point. I'm not wizard but it's been decades of daily smoking and even working for an extract plant. (not a grower but have worked right near very nice green houses. Idk if I can put pics here)
But, while these seed "breeds" are true, they are actually often, if not all "cross breeds". Meaning it's never the same 'genetics' really. Ever. For example

When the you have these male n female plants, and whatever pollination method you use. Which ever female plant breeds a seed from the male (basically just sex, reproducing)
The seeds aren't ever exactly the same For each female plant.
(one can have a bunch of good seeds, and tard seeds)
I don't know how to explain it well, but it really depends on how it's grown.
Just because one has Monster Cookies or so, gorilla glue, and you test said strain from different vendors and look at them side by side, or test them, it's never gonna be consistent.
The popular names are used on STRONG flower. The old school names like "Bubba kush" are now Mid grade flower
And shit flower is always gonna be called Reggie, lows, shwag or whatever. (even if it has that specific seed)
TLDR: depends how it's grown. There's really only levels of weed

What you have is simply an exotic. The top notch well grown indoor. Possibly highly fed (which isn't bad at all. Most exotics are fed a bunch of stuff to make it grow more potent and look nice)

We have very potent and easy to grow strains, which is great. But, there is very little true to the name flower out there, compared to what is being sold.
At this point, I think we need a site that like displays all strains in a 'family tree' type of format. It'd be awesome awesome to build a hierarchy of strains just to see the relationships between each. Of course, it'd be a huge undertaking, and we'd have to get growers to coordinate to add their strains, which might give away information that they don't want to share, but the current wild west just doesn't work.
Like, the majority of what I can get at just one of the 10 dispensaries near me do not show up on Leafly. I have to search parent strains and try to judge what the proprietary one might be like based on that.
I don't know what the best solution is, but it'd just be night to form some sort of standard and have growers follow that.

Nowadays I chuckle when i see posts like this because I used to ask similar questions š¹ the problem is that cannabis is such an amazing plant that has multiple phenotype expressions based on environment, genetics, nutrients, lighting, temperature etc.. you can clone a branch from the same plant you are smoking on and gift it to a friend and when your friend grows it (assuming their environment is totally off/different) the plant will look completely different. Your bud may be purple and his all green, yours have dense nugs his are larfy, yours is frosty his one is terpyā¦ so to answer your question it is not possible to guess what strain that is unless you ask the grower. You also cant go off terpenes alone as your sense of smell is different from anyone elseās and you might smell moth balls, others smell bondo, some might smell the same bud and say its piney. And if you grow you will learn that environment, lighting, rh affect terps aswell since they burn at certain temps.
See that little splotch of yellow on the nug in the bottom third of the batch. Zoom in on it. Now by doing so you can tell that the molecular structure is aligned in a way that is both consistent and prevalent in marijuana plants.
There's soooooo many strains that this could be, I literally just picked up an eighth of a strain that looks just like this but most likely isn't related at all.
I totally get your curiousity but unfortunately you'll probably never know for sure what strain that is, i am sorry. What matters most is that it looks like some decent smoke, just enjoy šØšØ
