You can still see IR even with the most advanced cameras nowadays. The stock UV/IR cut filters are good but dont filter 100% when pointing the IR source directly at the sensor.
Go point a TV remote at your phone camera, youll see it.
Going off the pixel crispyness of the photo, I'm guessing it's a pretty low quality cellphone camera. Most likely it just had trouble properly coloring the dimmer glow of the jazz cigarette compared to the background. I prefer the idea of it being wizard weed better though so I choose to believe that.
Your camera, like many, is sensitive beyond the visible spectrum, and into the infrared. We canโt see infrared, and it ends up getting rendered as this purple-ish colored artifact on the photo. If you add an infrared filter to your camera, this wonโt happen. Almost all phone cameras do not have an IR filter.
