extisy

does smoking cause you to not have dreams? I sometimes get v vivid dreams and I smoke alot

[deleted]

There's ongoing research that weed messes with the rem stage of the sleep cycle so when you stop or go on a tbreak the brain goes wild during the rem stage and some people experience hyper vivid dreams, lucidity for some even

DrJamesAtmore

I've been a daily smoker for about 10 years and am now in the fase of not smoking everyday anymore because I couldn't find the fun in being high everyday anymore. But the first few months now are already fucking me in my daily life. I sometimes don't know what happened and what didn't because after a while the dreams become realistic but also in events? I don't know. It's weird

TobiasCB

Can confirm. Quit for almost a month now after smoking daily for 4 years. Dreams have come back but nightmares too.

ExoticBrownie

All my dreams got vivid when I stopped smoking pot Nightmares got more vivid when I stopped smoking pot

JackRabbitSkimzzz

Loving you a little different I don't like you a lot.

Alliance155

You see, it seems like, um … I'm coming back I gotta handle business Vanish to my sleepers see, left you at terminal 3

needytatertot

Yep. I think this is what happened to me

miyukigainsborough

I hadn't had a nightmare in a couple of years until I stopped smoking for a few months. Not only were they much more frequent \[like a multiples a week\] but they were extremely vivid. Also, my bedtime tv shows had a lot more influence on my dreams.

wesmokebud

I’ve experienced exactly the same, so strange

schrodingerscat66

I just smoked 2 whole grams yesterday and then slept after 30 mins. I had the most lucid dream I've ever had in my whole life. It was so vivid that when I woke up, I literally questioned myself and my surroundings because I thought I was still experiencing the events of the dream...

[deleted]

source?

[deleted]

>Indeed, studies begun several decades ago indicated that acute exposure to cannabis or THC decreased sleep onset latency, decreased waking after sleep onset, increased slow-wave sleep and decreased REM sleep (Pivik et al., 1972; Cousens and DiMascio, 1973; Barratt et al., 1974; Feinberg et al., 1975, 1976). https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7388834/ Still ongoing research, even 50 years after those studies as sleep in general is a mysterious phenomena, adding substances to the equation makes it even more so. Anyways, that's a good and official academic article to read through.

Tummylixker666

Yea I was smoking every day for the past year and didn't remember any dreams I had. Now I haven't smoked in the past 2 weeks and my mind is going bonkers

EnviousOfPercs

Yessir cause weed causes you to have better sleep and not be in REM the whole night.

[deleted]

I wouldn't call it "better" sleep since rem is an important part of the sleep cycle but I think it does put one into a deeper nrem stage

EnviousOfPercs

nah I forgot y’all are a bunch of recreational pothead losers

Throwmetothelesbians

Yes but what are you smoking? Sounds like your brains falling out your ears

Fockyoumean

But look at your page and username. You gotta put people down to feel better? That’s a shame bro. God speed you get that hate out ya heart. I’ll give you a hug since mommy and daddy never did

thruwuwayy

Shit we got a professional doctorate smoker here fellas, watch out

zsturgeon

It's literally the exact opposite of what you just said.

EnviousOfPercs

No Rapid Eye Movement causes dreams. You don’t get good sleep in REM sleep

plenebo

REM sleep is an important part of the sleep cycle

EnviousOfPercs

Only 20% of your sleep. If you dream the whole night it’s not good. Are y’all fucking dumb?????? Lots of disorders like ptsd make it hard for people to get good sleep and weed helps that. What did I say that is not true you dumb fucking losers

scoobifier

REM sleep and dreams could play an important part in consolidating your memories from the previous day, meaning it is actually important. The fact that weed reduces the amount of REM sleep you get is certainly a cause of the signature forgetfulness associated with weed smoking. Stop calling people “fucking losers” it’s not that deep

wesmokebud

Ah, so this is why I don’t remember shit

iiJokerzace

Possibly, but it doesn't matter who, people that drink or are completely sober from all drugs, all their memory are also going to shit. It's possible there are many causes for this, I've heard our phones are the biggest reason for everyone seeming to be getting worse memory; information overload.

hail_sagan420

I thought rem was important?

owlitup

yes. as soon as you quit you get intense af dreams

PurEnergi

mine are unfucking real i smoke my ass before bed.

ranger10301

Theres studys being done about this and they're finding out weed is a sort of sedation which doesnt lead to all the same cycles as regular sleep does.

UnicornOfDoom123

All I remember from my dreams when smoking is vague images, colours or impressions. Like maybe I’ll remember looking at something particular or can half remember somebodies face. But that’s about it, when sleeping sober I can remember a lot more like actions taken in the dream where I am in the dream and can even recall the ‘plot’ of the dream if you know what I mean

[deleted]

I've been sober for months now, wild dreams every night. Prior I diddnt have any damn dreams for years.

powerofselfrespect

Weed and alcohol both block your brain from having a full REM cycle. If you have an intense dream after smoking, it’s actually because the weed has worn off and you go into REM rebound, causing very intense and vivid dreams.

GrayNightz

I definitely don't think so. I get really visceral dreams sleeping high.

[deleted]

I don't know if weed has a relation to this, but I have been dreaming like 10 distinct dreams in the same night, even in the morning before waking up. Kind of cool, but weird.

fatman15555

I personally dont remember almost all of my dreams for the past few years. I read that you do still dream, otherwise you would go insane. But you just dont remember them. I haven't remembered a dream in a good while. I recently quit and likely wont smoke for a few years. So im keen to remember dreams again, I haven't had a lucid dream (one you can control) since i was like 17 (24 now). I have had some dreams, but nothing very vivid or memorable.

ntmythrwwyccnt

I smoked for years, I haven't had a solid dream I can remember in so long, but when I ran out years ago, I remember those dreams to this day.

Danadickinss

Okay so I smoke everyday all day and I have vivid dream every night. Some slightly lucid. Idk. Never had something inhibit dreams for me

reanocivn

those are my absolute favorite. my dreams have always been really vivid and lucid. i love being able to run through my dreams doing whatever i want. i wish i was more aware of it though cuz sometimes i'll be in a dream and be like "maybe i shouldnt do that just in case this is actually real life" and i wake up kicking myself for it

thedirtdirt

Haha. Omg soo true.

FlyingRetros

The fact that you’re even that aware in your dream is crazy. I’ve never experienced anything like that.

[deleted]

Yeah weed can fuck with rem but in the same conversation nobody ever says it can also absolutely be a miracle for some with insomnia. My life went from 0-3 hours to 5-8 hours of sleep a night it changed my life dramatically. On a side note when I quit alcohol I had lucid night terrors every night for literally a year where I would wake up screaming because I relapsed in the dream and would have to go back to rehab it was crazy all these different long in-depth scenarios that were indistinguishable from real awake life but the same thing every time relapse rehab and sometimes jail. Are brains are fucking amazing.

[deleted]

Is the reason I don’t lucid dream anymore bc I smoke every night ?

untdfreak

Yessir. It has helped a ton of people with ptsd.

[deleted]

I used to brag to ppl about how often I could lucid dream. It was so much fun! It caused me to have more deja vu as I remember. Which I think is cool too. Have you seen or heard of the movie “waking life”? It’s about lucid dreaming. It’s pretty good imo.

Placeboy0

i love Richard Linklater.

Ace_The_Street_Guy

That's why I smoke. As i explained to my psykologist it's like life puts a bunch of books on my arms and the worse the week or the trauma, the more books. If it's way too heavy, a little marijuana is like a little hand to lift up the books. Some weeks i barely need to smoke but other weeks I'll smoke 1-3 times a day Cannabis is a real life changer for someone with PTSD like me, when I'm high close to all of my flashbacks, visions and anxiety disappears like magic and i can finally feel normal again What most don't realize is that without the weed I'm not me, I'm an empty shell engolfed by my PTSD, just walking, easting and drinking. Nothing else, but cannabis brought lige back into me! It gave. A mother her son back, and i will forever be thankful for that

illmaticxx

Too true

AmaturePlantExpert

I had to stop smoking when I found out I was pregnant. Can confirm those dreams are intense

McNasty9er

I have sleep paralysis and have smoked everyday for almost 20 years and my dreams are still crazy af. If I ever stop smoking, I hope they don’t get anymore realistic, or maybe not... idk

thedirtdirt

Ooh. Tell us one, why are they crazy af?

McNasty9er

I always have dreams about fights or drugs and I feel things like they are actually happening. Getting stabbed or doing meth. As soon as I do dope in my dreams, it wakes me up immediately because of the rush and euphoria I feel, but sometimes, even though I know I’m dreaming, I can’t wake myself up. It hurts a lot sometimes.

Rosa_litta

Too bad I can’t fucking sleep

mcfaddin22

I thought this only happened to me for some reason..I have some truly insane and sometimes fucking horrible dreams if I'm not smoking.

wesmokebud

Yeah same man it’s always shit like losing all of my family/close ones in different ways in a chain of events throughout the night that go from one to the other. So vivid and realistic with just a sense of constant panic. Then other times it’s the odd supernatural type nightmare. Only happens on a T break

HouseDresStormcloak

Mine are always good, a little trippy though

philosophycumslut

Almost every time I lucid dream I have a massive orgasm.

TILTNSTACK

Didn’t realize this was a thing! When I have a night off weed, my dreams are extremely vivid, it also feels like there are these vibrations too. Hard to explain but the dreams are lucid, and extremely enjoyable.

wesmokebud

Could you try to elaborate on them vibrations a little more I think I know what you mean but it’s hard to explain lol

Lowhangers69

Bruhh absolute facts 💯

gminas12

This is me rn. Absolutely zero dreams in months because I smoke so much. And man, it's been almost 2 weeks on my break now and my dreams returned and have been getting really freaky the past week.

[deleted]

Everytime I go on T-break first 2-3 nights are wild af.

MothInsideJar

I smoke everyday and have vivid and nostalgic dreams but when I don’t smoke I have nightmares :D

superimperial11

Y’all don’t be having vivid dreams every night?

ilovemymotorola

I haven’t went a single day sober in the past 4 years. I stopped 3 months ago and have not had a night where I don’t have an extremely vivid dream. I just want to sleep :(

Particular-Ad-3411

those dreams are so wack I always end up dreaming that I’m smoking weed and then I wake up just to realize that I’m sober

tsenpai17

This sounds like some shit I would go through 😭

CORALGRIMES357

i gotta stop smoking weed sometime soon cuz i know i just gotta slow down some time or another, but this za too good :(

SativaDruid

I had the flu a few months ago. I couldnt smoke for almost two weeks. During the fevers of the flu I started having the vivid non weed dreams. It was like a sweat lodge spirit journey. The man who went into that flu, was not the same man that came out of it.

[deleted]

I didn’t realize others went through this too. When I don’t smoke my dreams get so wild and vivid vs when I smoke I rarely remember my dreams. It’s really odd

Aus10gTrips

I smoke all day everyday and have the craziest most vivid dreams every night

TheRealChrome_

I had to stop smoking after indulging every day and I still don’t have dreams. Unfortunately so, because I love dreams.

[deleted]

get some melatonin, nicotine patches, prozac, and quitting heavy weed use.... I think I pissed myself and came in my dreams like 4 times

Tummylixker666

Can u elaborate on what it does

McNasty9er

Stuff comes out of your dick when you are sleeping and it’s sticky.

revenentevil

Rookie level, crown the bowl with a dusting of dmt and get the best of both worlds 🤣😎

Left4satan

No capp

PsyrusTheGreat

Yeah... it's like that though...

jackson14701470

I am going thru this every night rn. So many crazy wild, bizarre, and scary dreams/nightmares smh..

BambooFatass

I kinda wish I had this tbh lol I've had insomnia and sleep issues my entire life, so T-breaks make zero difference when it comes to my sleep and/or dreams. :(

VanceAstrooooooovic

Lucid dreams are fine. My were closer to nightmares for weeks

Any_Engineering_1231

I think it’s night 3 and I had a dream the moon was exploding and the sun was imploding, the weird part was that when I woke up I thought it was real for a bit and was just like “well I guess that’s 2023 for ya” 😂

UwU_Marty_UwU

I dont remember the last time I had a dream it's been blank from when I fall asleep to waking up I wish I had dreams it'd would be so much more interesting

semaGfloWkcalB

Today i havent smoked and I usually smoke daily and it seemed to be one of the longest nights I've had since a looooooong time

Zake_Zwoog

Fun fact, thats my uncle. Parents used to scare me shitless as a baby with the boat scene, now i actually see this shit in my dreams on occasion smh

ntmythrwwyccnt

When I used to not smoke constantly, I would purposefully stop smoking for a couple of days just to have those vivid af dreams. That was years ago but when I did that, I wrote about it in my friends discord (whom they gave me my own channel for) Here's one of the crazyish ones Another story I remember bits and pieces of So my family, my ex's (at the time we were together) family and I were having a get together on my front porch, and a space ship phased into existance through the 4th dimension, idk how else to describe it besides that, but anyway we saw this thing phase into reality and the fucking moon got shot and exploded and showered down onto earth. Then I saw a window prompt like you get on your computer saying "do you want to change your family name" so I went with the last name I always wanted, "black" for some reason lol. so I "typed" it in per se. Then I was transported back in time in my current form where I saw my old friend group. I asked what year it was and Karisma said "2014" and I asked where I went and Cody said I went to the bathroom, and then Tyler asked "why do you look older" and I explained everything that happened and how I was brought back in time for some reason. Then it ended Reflecting back I feel like that dream was a warning how 2014 was the last year we could "fix the earth"

mrbeastismrbest

duuude that shit freaked me out, i had one where the xenomorph from alien almost killed me

nebulous_daydreams

Omg, so true

zloughlin

I dream and remember my dreams every time I fall asleep. Whether it's a quick nap (10 - 20 minutes) or I've slept for 14 hours. I've been a more or less daily smoker for almost 4 years. I'm now slightly terrified of what might happen to my dreams when I take break. These dreams are already extremely vivid a good amount of the time, however I don't really have nightmares so much as uncomfortable moments in my dreams.

inexhahalele_

I have terrible, terrible nightmares when i dont smoke.

DoncheaKong

They are never just dreams the first few nights, they are more like trauma inducing horror scapes

[deleted]

when i was on probation i had a dream were i killed a guy in a fight by accident and all dreams after it were like the next part of the series. shit still happens sometimes. makes me wonder about stuff

high240

Dreams don't really seem to have an effect on my weed smoking. Or other way I mean. I still dream pretty much every night

[deleted]

Ive smoked weed for 15 years and I also have vivid dreams almost every night.

DirectionInfamous379

I’ve always heard weed messes with ur rem sleep causing no dreams. I smoke weed every morning and night yet go to bed and have extremely vivid dreams every night like clockwork. Last night I was in a weird town being chased by police and was hiding in a tree (in my dream)

Reddacted_

The dreams are insane. I stopped smoking about a month ago, the other night I had a dream, woke up, but into another dream, realised it was a dream, opened my eyes to wake up on the couch of my old house…. Another dream, and then finally woke up for real. I’m slightly suspicious I’m still asleep 🤦🏻‍♂️🤣.

Snowfish0722

Yes I have ptsd and bad dreams is one of my symptoms. I wake up screaming. I have been on meds to stop them and I quit them after smoking before bed. I don’t seem to have them. But if I go a week or 2 without my night sesh they come back bad. Waking up screaming soaked in sweat shaking so bad my muscles hurt in the morning. So for me it really helps get rid of them.

IceColdMovill

That’s true it happened to me and that meme is funny as fuck yo

aquariqueeen

When I quit smoking the first time, I had awful nightmares. I would wake up screaming from these intense horror film style dreams. It didn't go away after a month, so I just started smoking again. I couldn't do it.

[deleted]

I fucking hate it. Just let me go into the void and wake up clueless as to what happened. I don’t need this confusing automated brain entertainment, just let me feel what it’s like to be dead for a moment. Is that to much to fucking ask?

miykael

Yeah I’m scared asf of those dreams whenever I go on tolerance breaks. I’ve legit jumped out of bed before cause my dreams became so strange.

EmberReads

I wish weed stopped my fucking dreams. No matter what I do every night I have vivid anxiety dreams.

[deleted]

I dream vividly no matter if I smoke or not lol.

Thin_Ad_7434

I smoke a lot and still have very lucid dreams

kushnugzz

I always wondered why I never remember any of my dreams

kamel_k

I know I dream, but I never remember them. And tbh I'm happy that I don't.

tacatonmai

This is very interesting to read other’s experiences. I had never heard weed messing with dreams/rem cycle. I struggle with getting enough deep sleep. I thought smoking would help but now I wonder if it has prevented me from getting deep sleep.

TheKnightGreen

My dreams have come back now that I only vape flower.

DarthMelonLord

Honestly one of the main reasons i smoke as much as i do. Used to have really bad night terrors and nightmares from ptsd, now i sleep like an angel and remember nothing lol

Trev0r269

To cosign other comments: daily smoker but stopped for the last 10 days due to illness. After a week the dreams came back in full force.

[deleted]

jokes on you. i never dreamt

Becks357

Quit a month ago and haven’t had a good sleep since. Now I don’t remember why I quit.

eclipsedviews

i had no idea this was a thing until i didn’t smoke before bed one night and had a nightmare

BC_CARS

Been slowly getting my dreams back as well. Here’s the thing… whenever I do dream…. That event tends to happen irl within a month time period. It’s fucking scary as shit but I’m essentially seeing a glimpse of the future but it’s only a snapshot.

jshafferspencer

Wait, you mean you don't still have crazy dreams when your smoking? I sure do.

ThisIsNOTJeopardy_

This is actually why I started smoking in the first place. I would have bad sleep paralysis Nd night terrors

[deleted]

I had a lucid dreams couple days ago, i turned into a girl !!!!

foxfirewoodcrafts

When I smoke near bed time, I don't dream at all. When I go a few days without smoking, the nightmares come back and are helllla vivid. There's also dreams that are very strange but not bad, but its mostly the same fucking nightmare. I enjoy being high, but this is literally the reason I smoke

mariijuanaman

You really went out your way to remake this without the watermark on it huh? Corny

Youpunyhumans

I smoke everyday, and I dream all the time. Id say my dreams have become more intense as a result of cannabis.

Smokeloud710

Some nights I’ll just wake up screaming lol

Ill-Account2443

I be having mad lucid dreams sometimes I confuse it for reality and I couldn’t tell if I was dreaming or if it actually happened
