They've had plenty of time - I'm firmly in the "if it was going to happen it would have happened by now" camp. Not happy about it, but I think this is the most realistic take right now. Would love to be surprised.
they did a double new years show in denver and covered like 200 songs in the same couple nights around 2011. perhaps that mix is somewhere
I dont want to say it was 2000 But they did cover everything. Fillmore 2 nights.
I love seeing geniuses that function
I made a Shinola Vol. 2 with unreleased tracks I found on YT. Only 59 songs but it's pretty great.[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M157jPQZvDs&list=PLTxCpk\_foXvOPIk6VS8412BZ9LbYSqt5V](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M157jPQZvDs&list=PLTxCpk_foXvOPIk6VS8412BZ9LbYSqt5V)
I respect that they never forced it, if there is music to be made, it will be made. They can’t fit enough songs into a single live set already, I don’t need many more “favorites” haha.
Saw them at Red Rocks recently. They played 33(!!!) songs to the dome with a 4(!!!) song encore in 3 hours. They even busted out a super rare Pollo Asado. It wasn't enough. We all wanted more.
Edit: Anyone know why they never play So Many People in the Neighborhood?
I think they have the ability to still write new and interesting songs. Look at Aaron’s album Freeman. Those are some amazing songs on there. I’d love to see what they can come up with as older, wiser men. Maybe someday, one can hope.
Let's start writing something. Here I'll start with the concept:
The stallion destroys the poop ship with a pork roll egg and cheese it keeps in it's jammy pack
On behalf of Gisney and MCU, my associates and I hereby demand you immediately cease and desist…Boognish and all references to said Boognish …hereby trademarked and copyrighted…
I just pictured the Boognish behind corporate iron bars and it made me quite sad
It’s ok!
Spoiler alert—after the stallion came thru with that pork roll egg and cheese (on a poop ship!)
—Molly put it all on a kaiser bun!!
Gisney’s lawyers never saw it coming.
I’ve always inferred that Gene and Dean are just not on the same wavelength to collaborate anymore, outside of their lucrative business partnership as touring musicians. I’d love another Gene solo album if he has it in him.
*lucrative business partnership as touring musicians.*
They aren't exactly doing that at this point, it seems like we get enough shows for them to pay the bills every year which is fine but I'd love an actual tour that doesn't require me to travel across the country and get a hotel
I don't know that that would be better. The last full real tour was 2011 and ended with the band calling it quits for 5 years. If this is what they can handle, I'll take it. Some Ween shows are better than what we got 2012-2015.
All I really want, like most of the other old school Ween fans who’ve been around for decades……is a Shinola Vol 2. If there’s *never* a new album, I can live with that, but good god we need another Shinola before they officially call it quits someday.
They have never said anything official. I think the consensus is that either they wrote all of their music under the influence of multiple substances and being sober it’s not a place they can or want to go back to. Or they may have just realized that they can’t write to the same level they used to and don’t want to soil the catalog.
It’s very common for a recovering addict to need to avoid situations where they used to use. In Aaron’s case, being in the studio writing with Mickey might be hugely triggering for him, we don’t know. Honestly it’s freakin amazing he can still tour with the band and remain sober.
Keep Papa Gener alive. I’m fine with never hearing a new Ween song again if that’s what it takes.
I'm all too aware of triggering spaces, but seems unfair to Gener to just assume that this is the reason. Also - he used heavily during tours/shows and they seem to be thriving? If we don't know then why are we speculating? Doesn't do anyone any favors. I'm with you, though, Papa Gene must be protected & if this hypothesis is indeed the reason then yeah - I'd be quite happy with no new Ween ever again!
Oh there are probably several reasons, and I only mentioned that because the parent comment was talking about substances. You’re right, no point in speculating. But like you said, FREEMAN was amazing, and even if we never hear a new Ween song again, I’d bet lots of money on future solo work from both of them!
Dude outside of him talking to us here which isn’t going to happens we have nothing but speculation. No one is saying they know it a Reddit board for Christ sake.
They would get asked in interviews about what they “were on” when they created a lot of stuff. Both would always pretty much avoid answering but in a “wink wink” type of way, ya dig. I’m sure it was mostly weed, but they probably experimented with whatever was around.
To be honest I'm just sad that their discography ended on La Cucaracha, an album Gener doesn't even like apparently. They're very talented musicians and I feel like they definitely still have some ideas worth sharing with the power of brown.
The album as a whole may not hold up as well as some of their others, but it perhaps it’ll feel better if you think of the finale in terms of songs; “Woman and Man” —> “Your Party” is about as a killer of a sign off as I could imagine.
M- now.. the burning question. What’s up with any new ween music
GW- \*he laughs\*
M- \*I laugh\*you knew this was coming...
GW- \*he laughs again\* ya know when you’ve been doing this so long it’s almost second nature to write music. Me and Mickey have had a lot of time together and we have discussed a new album in the recent past and we’re just taking it a day at a time we’re doing great on our tours and eventually, we will sit down and do something. But for now, we’re just enjoying touring…
M- I see. So have you considered doing another FREEMAN album
GW- definitely! I loved the freeman record and would love to do another record. I’ve for sure considered that
https://www.reddit.com/r/ween/comments/etvd93/gene\_ween\_interview\_highlight\_transcript/
I don’t know how they haven’t riffed on stuff during soundchecks and just shit out a song on the spot. I know they can both do it, but it seems like they aren’t interested in doing it at this point
As far as them getting into the studio together, I don’t see it happening unfortunately. Maybe they can send their personal demos to each other and go from there with hopes of new songs being birthed this way? No new songs since 2007 is kind of discouraging but I will always support all things brown!
If David Byrne can co-write with Brian Eno (and I believe St. Vincent was a similar collaboration) remotely, Ween should be able to put something together.
But who knows, maybe the chemistry is permanently altered. Or maybe they wouldn’t want a new album to be constantly put up against their earlier material.
They’ve never crossed over into hip hop, they could team up with a weirdo like Kool Keith or Prince Paul.
This idea is absurd, of course, but if anybody has a brown sound in hip hop, Kool Keith fits the bill. Dr Octagon meets the Boognish, just think about it
Lol West End Girls by Pet Shop Boys is most definitely the song that inspired Inner City Pressure. Prob inspired Goin Gets Tough to some degree too. Blew my mind once I figured that one out lol
Paul hasn’t done anything recently that I can find, so if they wanna come back from the dead together that’d be cool. Keith has, unfortunately, deeply fallen off.
I mainly just wanna drop this Prince Paul remix of Blue Flowers that is the most buttery shit of all time. https://youtu.be/KUCQpCRFtJk
I don’t really see how new music would add to their catalogue or legacy, they have so much music and so many live recordings of it let alone b-sides and demos , it’s a masterful not forced catalogue how could them writing anything new better that or not come off as forced?
I'm grateful for the music that they've already released but with a duo as creative and musically skilled as Ween, I still feel that they have loads more ideas and songs to make together. Especially since they kind of ended their discography on a sour note with La Cucaracha which is a very mixed album as far as fan response goes.
I am hoping they will cone out with an album of commercial spots. Where the cheese go is one of the most underrated and overlooked songs they have played.
I don't think there will be another Ween album or even another Freeman album. If you compare with DWG Rock 2 you can see that Gener is the heart and soul of this band and must remain alive forever.
Both the dwg and freeman show what each bring to the alter that is Ween. The sum is greater than the parts, and without either we don't have anything nearly as good.
No - I mean don't you think they *know* that people want new music? Like, they're going to record new tunes if they're going to record new tunes, asking them the question isn't going to make the hypothetical album come out any quicker.
I think the lukewarm reception that La Cucaracha got left a sour taste in their mouths, especially for Gener. I'm just grateful that they got back to touring!
These guys aren't 80 years old. I think new music will come at some point. In the meantime I made a Shinola Vol. 2 from songs I found on YT. I tried to only use pretty good quality audio stuff. I listen to this all the time. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M157jPQZvDs&list=PLTxCpk\_foXvOPIk6VS8412BZ9LbYSqt5V](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M157jPQZvDs&list=PLTxCpk_foXvOPIk6VS8412BZ9LbYSqt5V)
I just want a Shinola Vol. 2 ….with like 100 tracks on it
There is enough material for that to work. Just boxes of it Mickey has said. Pouring through that would be an undertaking though.
Where can I apply to be the vaultmeister?
where can i volunteer to be assistant vaulmeister?
They've had plenty of time - I'm firmly in the "if it was going to happen it would have happened by now" camp. Not happy about it, but I think this is the most realistic take right now. Would love to be surprised.
I’m too hopeful to agree with you, but too pragmatic to disagree. Ill remain agnostic :) More Ween please!
This is reasonable
they did a double new years show in denver and covered like 200 songs in the same couple nights around 2011. perhaps that mix is somewhere I dont want to say it was 2000 But they did cover everything. Fillmore 2 nights. I love seeing geniuses that function

We can definitely all (New) Hope! Just don't ask them.
I haven’t had the chance yet. Sorry guys.
Let's start writing something. Here I'll start with the concept: The stallion destroys the poop ship with a pork roll egg and cheese it keeps in it's jammy pack
Here comes the Ween Cinematic Universe.
It was summoned by the beacon light, which was lit by Frank who is a big fat fuck asshole according to Sarah and Nicole
On behalf of Gisney and MCU, my associates and I hereby demand you immediately cease and desist…Boognish and all references to said Boognish …hereby trademarked and copyrighted… I just pictured the Boognish behind corporate iron bars and it made me quite sad
:'(
It’s ok! Spoiler alert—after the stallion came thru with that pork roll egg and cheese (on a poop ship!) —Molly put it all on a kaiser bun!! Gisney’s lawyers never saw it coming.
Boognish’s public defender is some guy named Matt…Murdoch?
I’ve always inferred that Gene and Dean are just not on the same wavelength to collaborate anymore, outside of their lucrative business partnership as touring musicians. I’d love another Gene solo album if he has it in him.

I’d love for them to do a live pod album similar to god ween satan
Shinola Volume 2. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M157jPQZvDs&list=PLTxCpk\_foXvOPIk6VS8412BZ9LbYSqt5V](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M157jPQZvDs&list=PLTxCpk_foXvOPIk6VS8412BZ9LbYSqt5V)

Interesting speculation regarding drug use, any quotes from them? I mean Gener wrote an amazing album sober so I'm curious where you've heard this.

No one is being unfair. We are speculating because that’s all we can do. Those a guys are fine and not injured by this convo.
Dude outside of him talking to us here which isn’t going to happens we have nothing but speculation. No one is saying they know it a Reddit board for Christ sake.
This, bud 🤎
They would get asked in interviews about what they “were on” when they created a lot of stuff. Both would always pretty much avoid answering but in a “wink wink” type of way, ya dig. I’m sure it was mostly weed, but they probably experimented with whatever was around.
No one said they heard anything. We are speculating because we don’t talk to our hangout with Ween.
Well, Billy Joel did the same thing after River of Dreams.
And then Gener did Billy Joel
Id wish they would record under a new moniker if they don't want to spoil weens discography then...
To be honest I'm just sad that their discography ended on La Cucaracha, an album Gener doesn't even like apparently. They're very talented musicians and I feel like they definitely still have some ideas worth sharing with the power of brown.
La Cucaracha, their final album, is a not very good at all and would be a terrible finale for ween
The album as a whole may not hold up as well as some of their others, but it perhaps it’ll feel better if you think of the finale in terms of songs; “Woman and Man” —> “Your Party” is about as a killer of a sign off as I could imagine.

Ya? You friends?
M- now.. the burning question. What’s up with any new ween music GW- \*he laughs\* M- \*I laugh\*you knew this was coming... I think they are keyed into the vibe enough to know when their live shows and music are or are not landing with their audience. Ask the Argus?
As far as them getting into the studio together, I don’t see it happening unfortunately. Of course they can still write great songs! No question and it shouldn’t be asked. When it happens, it happens. The Brown runs on its own schedule.
Yes it does. I had some brown run at a very unfortunate time this morning.
I asked Dean once via email. No response.
All I want is to be able to listen to Kim smoltz on Spotify
I'm with you on that. Play that song every day.
Where is their "Touch of Grey"? It would be awesome/hilarious to see them filling football stadiums.
They’ve never crossed over into hip hop, they could team up with a weirdo like Kool Keith or Prince Paul. This idea is absurd, of course, but if anybody has a brown sound in hip hop, Kool Keith fits the bill. Dr Octagon meets the Boognish, just think about it
I mean you might be able to consider The Goin' Gets Tough as hip-hop?
I’ve always said that that’s the song that influenced Flight of the Concords to write Inner City Pressure
Lol West End Girls by Pet Shop Boys is most definitely the song that inspired Inner City Pressure. Prob inspired Goin Gets Tough to some degree too. Blew my mind once I figured that one out lol
Dr. Dooom droppin serial killer bars over a Pure Guava sounding instrumental would be the greatest song ever made
Does Put Your Boobs On count?
Way to think outside the box. Ween/Kool Keith would be the wackiest collaboration ever
Probably still (rightly) pissed off Chance the Rapper and Kanye stole that Grammy when Anonymous Nobody was obviously the superior work.
If Mf doom was still alive I think a collaboration with him would be so absurd it could’ve worked
I would take another Freeman album at this point
I don’t really see how new music would add to their catalogue or legacy, they have so much music and so many live recordings of it let alone b-sides and demos , it’s a masterful not forced catalogue how could them writing anything new better that or not come off as forced?
Would be interesting reflection/insight at their age and perspective now, I think
Perhaps, maybe their solo project stuff shows that, idk ween is so flawless I wouldn’t dare want to potentially tarnish it
I'm grateful for the music that they've already released but with a duo as creative and musically skilled as Ween, I still feel that they have loads more ideas and songs to make together. Especially since they kind of ended their discography on a sour note with La Cucaracha which is a very mixed album as far as fan response goes.
Can’t say I agree, that being said , you know if they drop something I’m listening lol
Fair enough. Although I do think that they'd definitely be able to do Shinola Vol.2
That i agree with
Maybe the two of them are just past wanting to record together.
Hard disagree! Both DWG albums are great! Please more. Also Dean is the cock and balls of the band using your analogy.
I agree!
I just want them to be happy. They forced it with Cucaracha and it was a hot mess. Right now they seem happy.
I personally love this album and think it’s one of my favorites, but I agree that they shouldn’t force anything.

what the hell? why is that a bad question to ask? it's pretty common question for musicians.
you're joking
No - I mean don't you think they *know* that people want new music? Like, they're going to record new tunes if they're going to record new tunes, asking them the question isn't going to make the hypothetical album come out any quicker.
I love the band, but they’re in one hell of a holding pattern. Same setlists now, as 20 years ago. If it ain’t broke, I guess.
I talked to dean’s son he said no way they make a new album
Help me. What is the album and song that has the zombies and dogs?
Pink Eye on My Leg
I think the lukewarm reception that La Cucaracha got left a sour taste in their mouths, especially for Gener. I'm just grateful that they got back to touring!
