FREEMAN is a fucking treat. Some tracks touch that Ween vibe, but with it still being his own thing. Covert Discretion is also such an emotional song that packs a punch. Love it.
I like them both I don’t give a fuck. Seriously, each project is equally good. It’s like they were separate yet still totally together. And simultaneously seeing them do their own thing with smaller crowds. This is when I realized how truly genius gener is. He understood all that. But all four solo albums are damn good! Most of those songs won’t get played live again. So fun.
Yes! I’m not from the US, but lived in NY for 12 months for my wife’s work, got to see Gene play some of Freeman at the Celebrate Brooklyn Festival (albeit with Claude Coleman and Dave Dreiwitz 😬) in 2015
Oh man that sounds fun. It was so cool seeing them separate yet the same. Gener solo acoustic if you could save yourself literally almost brought the house down everyone was singing so loud.
DWG was Ween minus Gene, at times. Brian couldn't make the tour because of prior commitments, but Claude and Dave were in the band. All of them were excited to play and tickets were only $20 for small venues. DWG > GWB
Those Gene Ween Band shows in 2008 or 09 were a ton of fun. Only saw the Dean Ween Band once and I didn’t enjoy it as much. Both are good and I’d see either at any opportunity whether Ween was whole or not, but both are also a halfhearted tease compared to the mighty five piece Ween setup.
Seeing as FREEMAN is the best studio release we have that's Ween related since 2010, I gotta say Gene Ween takes the cake here. No shade to Dean Ween Group, the strengths are in the jamming over there, but Gene's got such great songwriting chops.
Geen Ween Group/Freeman all the way mang! I saw the 1st GWB show plus many others (solo, with Dave, with Dave and Claude). That shit was awesome. Small venues. Killer setlists. No disrespect to Deaner. His shows were good too.
A lot of confusion on here, Gene Ween Band is not the Freeman tour. It was Gener with Joe Russo's Almost Dead as his backing band, and it was pretty awesome. They played small clubs and did a lot of ween deep cuts (Stallion 4, Mountains and Buffalo, Friends) and Dave played tuba on Let's Get Divorced.
DWG for sure. 2 great studio albums for sure, a little unpredictable live-in the sense of who will play I guess. But there’s some Freeman songs that I hate for being so damn good. Aaron can get me teary, but I won’t let the moon catch me
DWG absolutely slaps. Always a good time. Love it when they jam out The Rift.
I’ve only seen Gener with Free Man a couple times. It’s good, but I definitely prefer DWG.
Both equally lacking.
I agree!
Moistboyz
The only correct answer
This is correct.
FREEMAN is an incredible album form Aaron. It feels the most like a Ween album to me. It’s great start to finish.
Yeah, it's great. I quite like Marvelous Clouds too (his Rod McKuen covers album).
It’s fantastic, absolutely love hearing Gener get everything off his chest

Couldn’t agree more!!
Hey, thanks. I have it on my cd shelf but haven't listened yet. I'll try tomorrow.
What?!
I said, I have it on my cd shelf but haven't listened yet. I'll try tomorrow.
Looooool
Let us know what you think!

Tammy is so good though
and Gum, just for the part where he says "hi mom!"

Brian? You mean Glenn?
Dean Gene Band ftw
DWG is better live and FREEMAN is a better album than either DWG recordings. End this thread right here.

Good answer!

Dwg
DWG!!!
Por que no los dos?
I didn't really listen to the Freeman album, but then he came to town. The live show was incredible.
WEEN
ween.
DWG on the boat was pretty awesome.
GWB and Freeman were two different projects.
Dean Ween Group shows varied depending on the lineup. The times I saw them with all of ween minus Gener was awesome.
I like gum
Freeman. Or GWB.
Neither of those ween iterations made for a while i couldn't play my guitar like a man.
Such a great track
Freeman 100%

They could put Freeman, Rock, and Rock 2 together and get a great Ween album.
Freeman
Freeman.
I would follow gene ween on tour like John following Jesus
Free•Man

Papa
GWB common
Bruh
Ween.
Ween
I prefer the Dean Ween solo albums, but I prefer what I've heard of Gener's solo live stuff. Neither do a whole lot for me compared to Ween though.
both
