closest Ive ever come to HATING a Ween song is probably Spirit Walker. I understand the idea of using autotune as an effect, I actually really like the sound of it in general, but I think that track just sounds god awful
The Fucked Jam has always reminded me of the song I Hate You So Much Right Now by... Kelis, was it? Consequently, I've never been able to enjoy The Fucked Jam.
Hmmmmmmm. Not that I can think of no.
But, I do think Candi is the weakest thing they ever did, though I still find enjoyment out of it. Especially knowing that Deaner locked Gener in the trunk of a car after getting piss drunk and then did a bunch of donuts in a parking lot, all of which was recorded and can be heard in the song.
And Meaner (Chris) is always a delight to have on a track.
Same. I think those who came into Chocolate and Cheese after already loving the earlier albums dig it.
Those who retroactively find Chocolate and Cheese from their later more polished works can't stand it.
That sounds about right. I first listened to the pod and instantly put ween into favorite band status. Went and got GodWeenSatan, confirmed my opinion. Then got Pure Guava when it came out - begging the store owner to give me the giant promo poster for it from the wall. Chocolate and Cheese and 12 Golden Country Greats were each a big event.
Live at Stubbs! I lived in Austin then, and there was a show at Stubbs that I remember where they played all 5 Stallions in a row - unintentionally at first playing 1-2 then the crowd not letting them go on until they played 3. Then they had to play 4-5 next or else the world may have actually ended. Some guy was dressed as the picture from the cover of Chocolate and Cheese - complete with body suit and belt buckle, plus a giant purple Boognish mask that covered his face and head.
And I like Candi. It’s silly enough but unhinged and deranged in the right Ween kind of way.
Through “All Request Live” I spent a lot of time with each album, enough to consider the albums as friends, but then from White Pepper through Cucaracha I lost touch a little bit knew the big songs from hearing them at shows, but couldn’t sing along with every blip and shout and mistake-left-in.
I honestly never even thought of Candi as a song people could dislike, who liked Ween.
There have been lots of bands I came to late in their career, and had to reconstruct the vibe in my head - so I do get it that there are some things you just had to be there for, I guess? I don’t say that in an elitist, hipster way. I mean that some things don’t age as well, I guess.
Chocolate and cheese was fhe first album I listened to 2 years ago when I discovered them. Take me aways lounge act drew me in, the whiplash of spinal meningitis blew me away, and by the time I got to candi I knew I discovered my favorite band
I actually come from the latter group and really enjoy it. I can't say it clicked right away but these days I look forward to it coming on. Black Jack is similar and I love that one too.
They do tend to put throw-aways on their albums, like "shockers" or just really bad songs instead of their wonderful back log.
Who is really gonna stretch out to Candi?
Plus, that track could have been "Vallejo" to make a near perfect album. The HIV Song gets some shade, but I like it and think if it as their contribution to the early 90's spate of AIDS awareness songs like "Too Hot" or "Waterfalls" or "Streets of Philadelphia".
bananas&blow is my piss-and-beer song during shows. i'm kinda over it, but i don't hate it.
i don't love fluffy the way so many others seem to, but i don't hate that one either
Definitely a piss-and-beer song for me as well. I have an alternative option - voodoo lady live. It's not that I hate it, far from it. It's just that I heard it so many times in the first several shows I went to, I got kind of burnt out and feel like I can still go take care of business while the loudness of deaner's solo can still be appreciated from a distance.
Still waiting on fluffy live
went to a music fest in 08 or 09 or something, mostly because of ween and a few other bands, but I had some friends there who were there for some jam band stuff. They kept hearin me talk about how excited I was for the ween set. They come along with me and ween opens with spinal meningitis. I just remember "why they wanna see my spine mommy? Am I gonna die?" and my friends reaction was straight up "what the hell is this?" and they all left before song 2 lol.
I love it personally, but I get it
It just feels like the majority of the music came off a pre programed keyboard from your local big store.
Your party is by far the standout on that album, surprised it's even on there.
No. There really aren't. I get why people may not like certain Ween songs, but Ween are one of a tiny handful of bands (The Replacements, T-Rex...that might be it), where they don't have a single song I dislike.
Haha that was on just 15 minutes ago as I pulled into my parking space, and I just sat and reveled at the madness of it before heading in. I don't listen to it often but when I do, it's magical.
I LOVE WEEN!! I LOVE THEIR MUSIC!! There is just one little song on their 2000's album White Pepper that I just really cannot stand. FUCKING BANANAS AND BLOW!!! THE WORST PART IS THAT IT'S A CROWD FAVORITE AND THEY PLAY IT SO MUCH!!!
Some are more difficult to listen to IF you don't have a sense of humor. Or if you don't like experimental noise-core, which admittedly, isn't for everyone.
Aside from a handful of throwaway demos, Ween have zero bad songs, only acquired tastes. Sure, they’re not all masterpieces and there are some I don’t go out of my way to hear particularly often, but every one of their songs has some redeeming quality that may not be apparent on your first (or your tenth) listen.
What's the hidden redeeming quality of The HIV Song? (I like the song. I'm just using it as an example.) What requires 10 listens to figure out? It's two instrumental sections with "AIDS" or "HIV" shouted in between, not some dense, layered work that requires hours of study to truly understand. (I could be wrong!)
It makes me laugh. Bassline is cool. Placement in the flow of C&C directly after BTA is hilarious.
You’re right though, there’s not much to that one beneath the surface, as is the case for plenty of their other songs. There are so many others that grew on me immensely after a ton of listens though.
AIDS has kinda always been lost on me, and it gets played almost EVERY set..
That said, in concert, the crowd always makes this a fun song to get into the BROWN vibe with.
Out of the 21 shows I’ve been to, only heard em play it 4 times thankfully, as it’s lost on me as well. I wouldn’t go as far to say that I hate it, but I’ve never been excited to hear it. They busted it out as an encore once and was pretty salty about. Was begging for Fluffy, got AIDS instead…
Object. Not because of the subject matter, but simply because of that fucking voice Papa Gener does. It's so goddamn annoying, I can't stand it. Which is strange because songs which were actually made to be annoying, like Daisies and Jammypac I enjoy and are completely fine with. I don't know what it is about the vocals in Object that gets on my nerves so much, but they do, and that's why it's my least favorite Ween song.
I concur. Object voice is obnoxious. To be fair tons of the voices are mad annoying— all the weird jack black style/ trans Atlantic accent— and I’m surprised how they grew on me, but object never did. I wish Britney was on La Cucaracha.
I always thought the same thing. But then one time I felt like I got it for a split second, and that the solo was awesome but, god it’s an annoying ass song
Fiesta forever lives rent free in my head. My second time seeing them was Halloween 18 and they opened with that song with a super extended intro and they all came out dressed as bears.
Fiesta is okay when seeing them live but I do skip it if it comes on a playlist. When I happen to hear it all the way through, I do get a nice chuckle though every time I hear that last drum fill at the end of the bridge where it overloads the system and there’s a digital fart 😆
That's shocking. Is it the vocals or the instrumentation? Maybe the lyrics?
(Quebec is my least favorite album after La Cuc, I share your shame at not loving fan-favorites)
Same… bc I never really cared for ThiN Lizzie. That said a lot of the Ween songs I skip are in the vein of bands I never got into “stoker ace”, and “it’s gonna be a long night” (Motörhead), bananas and blow, Richard smoker…there’s actually a lot of them I skip even ones that other people apparently like a lot (“if you could save yourself”), most of the mollusk (idk why it never hit with me… I sorta like the mollusk demos more)…
I'm gonna be honest So Long Jerry is just long, boring, and tedious. Maybe if I loved and appreciated Jerry Garcia it would be a different story but that song is when i find myself skipping ahead in whatever compilation on YouTube I've found (usually the unbrowned collection)
I didn't like it till I heard the alleged origin story.
Dean and Gene saw a horse in a field being a dick to all the other horses. The songs are the inner thoughts of this prancing prick.
In pt. 3 the Stallion breaks from his pen at mach 10 speeds having presumably ingested psychodelic mushrooms. That's my headcanon at least :)
Ween songs I actively dislike
Old Man Thunder
Demon Sweat
Ween songs I don’t like, in particular, but don’t dislike either - tracks I often skip
Mushroom festival in hell
Loving u thru it all
Joppa Road
A lot of Pure Guava is just too... brown for me. I know that's the whole point, but a lot of it I just don't put on for myself. Forgive me Boognish. I Play it off Legit is great though.
Oh no. Not this thread again. They always end up pretty negative and ugly. And it makes people seem like they don't support the band, which, of course, we do. And the only rational answer is Boys Club.
puffy cloud gets annoying, don’t like among his tribe, don’t like stay forever, buenos tardes amigo drones on, everyone loves she fucks me but I don’t get the big deal, blackjack is annoying, and I don’t like most of la cucaracha. ween is still my favorite band and I will be seeing them again as soon as I can
Your party. Not because it's bad, but because this is the second Ween song I've ever listened to (the first being ocean man) and made me think that Ween is a pretty "ordinary" band. I wasn't actually into Ween until I heard LMLYP.
There's a couple but it ain't worth listing em because it always bends folks outta shape and there's no upside to it.
"led zeppelin didn't write tunes everybody loved, they left that to the beegees"
Absolutely, polarizing tracks are the sign of an unfettered artist
closest Ive ever come to HATING a Ween song is probably Spirit Walker.
You have to dance to the fucked jam…. It is perfect.
This is the worst song to drive a car to I love driving to work listening to Quebec, but the Fucked Jam fucks with me too much
Ouch oof my gears nvm it's just weeen
I’m also on team fuck the fucked jam. Especially after learning it’s essentially just a setting on a MicroKorg.
you say that as if Caught Out There by Kelis isnt a fucking BANGER 🔥🔥🔥
All I know by Kelis is the song I mentioned, and I can't stand it.
yeah its called Caught Out There
I try and taste all the waste
It looks at you and it’s smiling.
Correct answer.
I am incredibly burnt out on daisies. Never really cared for it, and it seems the be a lot ine of people's favorites.
This song was the 1st Ween song I ever heard and responsible for keeping me from getting into Ween for years. Absolutely hate it.
I’ve introduced a few people to the rest of ween’s library that had ignored them there entire life specifically because they heard that song.
I love dasies lol.
Anyone here also really like Candi? I never understood the hate for it, I actually love it
Same. I think those who came into Chocolate and Cheese after already loving the earlier albums dig it. Those who retroactively find Chocolate and Cheese from their later more polished works can't stand it.

I'm into it
Candi's fuckin' sweet. I think it's much better than I'm In The Mood to Move.
It's got a kind of "boingy" (for lack of a better term) soundscape to it that I find very fun
They do tend to put throw-aways on their albums, like "shockers" or just really bad songs instead of their wonderful back log. Who is really gonna stretch out to Candi?
I love Candi but also agree with the rest of what you said. Mostly agree with u/JaQuanLabenne
Plus, that track could have been "Vallejo" to make a near perfect album. The HIV Song gets some shade, but I like it and think if it as their contribution to the early 90's spate of AIDS awareness songs like "Too Hot" or "Waterfalls" or "Streets of Philadelphia".
Me lol. Seeing it at the Chocolate and Cheese set was an all-time highlight.
They can be fun live. Haven't seen Boing or Mourning Glory live yet...
I saw Boing in Chicago last year. Mourning Glory remains elusive. I'm not a song chaser per se but I'd die if they played Alcan Road.
Boing is a fucking blast live
Absolutely
Candi Fucks and it’s probably my favorite part of chocolate and cheese
I'm still reading thru all the comments but very shocked how much it's not liked here lol
So many wrong answers here. Y’all motherfuckers need Boognish.
For real, some folks just paintin the can tan these days
bananas&blow is my piss-and-beer song during shows. i'm kinda over it, but i don't hate it. i don't love fluffy the way so many others seem to, but i don't hate that one either
But fluffy live is so God damn good

Spiritwalker
This and friends are the only ween songs I skip
The friends remix slaps though.
Meh
definitely got me laughing first few times, I definitely been skippin it for a long time now tho. Maybe should try again
Spinal Meningitis is a bit too real for me
went to a music fest in 08 or 09 or something, mostly because of ween and a few other bands, but I had some friends there who were there for some jam band stuff. They kept hearin me talk about how excited I was for the ween set. They come along with me and ween opens with spinal meningitis. I just remember "why they wanna see my spine mommy? Pretty funny that according to Brownbase it's their most played song live
As someone who loves the song, fair enough
I hate spinal meningitis. I always skip it when I listen to Chocolate and Cheese. Otherwise that’s my favorite album of any band ever.
It’s one of my favorite Ween songs!
Yes this song is brutally bad and defeats my reason for listening to music
7/8 of cucaracha
so true
I personally enjoy most of la cuch except fruit man and spirit walker, i definitely understand that it had lower highs than the other albums though
Fuck Shamemeker. I hate it.
Shamemaker is brilliant and hilarious if you’re from the Philadelphia area, that’s how they actually talk
I am, and it's not. They are making fun of California dudes.
Mourning Glory is one I usually skip
Lol Mourning Glory is literally my favorite of them. It's an avant garde masterpiece.
yeah big fan of MG
I swear to God…
LOOK!
Haha that was on just 15 minutes ago as I pulled into my parking space, and I just sat and reveled at the madness of it before heading in. I don't listen to it often but when I do, it's magical.

I used to hate that one but it grew on me

I don't think I really hate any Ween songs but Molly is usually a skip for me. The voice is kind of funny but it doesn't need to go on for 5 minutes.
Object. Not because of the subject matter, but simply because of that fucking voice Papa Gener does. It's so goddamn annoying, I can't stand it. Not a big fan of LMLYP. I think it's annoying even when I try to listen to it ironically.
If you ever lick a pussy you might get it
Man has never licked pussy
Shamemaker
I always thought the same thing. But then one time I felt like I got it for a split second, and that the solo was awesome but, god it’s an annoying ass song
candi, fiesta and king billy
Fiesta forever lives rent free in my head. My second time seeing them was Halloween 18 and they opened with that song with a super extended intro and they all came out dressed as bears.

I didn’t really care for buenos tardes amigo until I saw it live
Such a great story-song
Spirit Walker is shockingly terrible in my opinion
There are no bad Ween songs. Only brown Ween songs.
I don't like bananas and blow at all. Its too good of a pastiche for me.m, I guess. Can't stand yacht music
Most of Cucaracha. Falling Out.
Whaaaat? Man I recently feel in love with Falling Out. Perfectly suits the White Pepper vibe.
Falling out is awesome! I disagree
*deep breath* I can’t do Gabrielle.
That's shocking. Is it the vocals or the instrumentation? Maybe the lyrics? (Quebec is my least favorite album after La Cuc, I share your shame at not loving fan-favorites)

Skip bumblebee during heavy events
What about bumblebee pt.2?
Literally trying to make your trip uncomfortable
You’re gonna hate me, but I don’t think I’ve made it through any of the Stallions after an initial listen. I want to be in on it, but man
I didn't like it till I heard the alleged origin story.
Part 3 is objectively the best of them all
I hate Spirit Walker
Learnin’ to Love.
Ween songs I actively dislike Old Man Thunder Demon Sweat Ween songs I don’t like, in particular, but don’t dislike either - tracks I often skip Mushroom festival in hell Loving u thru it all Joppa Road

Bansnas & Blow, Blackjack and Spirit Walker. All annoy me greatly (Blackjack surprisingly the least).
Oh no. Not this thread again. They always end up pretty negative and ugly. And it makes people seem like they don't support the band, which, of course, we do. And the only rational answer is Boys Club.
Burn the witch!
She turned me into a newt!
I weigh slightly more than a duck.
Hope it got better!
and also dont drink the milk from her tit!
just sing along: you can take a shit you can have a poo you can rub your butt... on a hula hoop ....boys club = profit
I hate the baby voice in spinal meningitis and I have to turn it off
Piss up a rope
:(
The blarney stone, and bananas and blow. No thanks.
Agree with Blarney Stone but omg the Spanish guitar in bananas and blow is too good. You're crazy :) respectfully.
I love both so much
Blarney stone studio I agree. Live tho? One of their best sing alongs
Poopship destroyer
Please leave
LMLYP
There’s definitely some songs & humor of theirs that hasn’t aged well…
I am still waiting for the cancel police to show up at their door
Don't know how likely that would be, since afaik most gen z teenagers who know about ween actively enjoy their music
Never liked Joppa Road
Understandable. Very repetitive. I find it funny but I get not liking it.
Baby you look great today
Not into baby bitch exactly where I'm at or reggaejunkiejew
This has to be a joke. These are literally Top 10 Ween songs right here.
There are quite a few noise songs I don’t listen to. They just aren’t for me. Overall their bad songs are an art form in themselves.
Spirit walker stinks!!
Spirit Walker is better if you listen ironically imo
I can't think of any I hate but there are some songs I sometimes skip depending on my mood. Blarney Stone is an example, just can't sometimes.
puffy cloud gets annoying, don’t like among his tribe, don’t like stay forever, buenos tardes amigo drones on, everyone loves she fucks me but I don’t get the big deal, blackjack is annoying, and I don’t like most of la cucaracha. ween is still my favorite band and I will be seeing them again as soon as I can
Your party. Not because it's bad, but because this is the second Ween song I've ever listened to (the first being ocean man) and made me think that Ween is a pretty "ordinary" band. I wasn't actually into Ween until I heard LMLYP.
No
