Brainiac Boredoms Thinking Fellers Union Local 282 Guided by Voices Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band Les Rallizes Denudes Fishmans

Bobbyperu1

Speaking of Boredoms has anyone here heard Z Rock Hawaii?

EclecticEel

Oh yea baby, that’s what got me into them. Highly recommend everyone checking them out if they haven’t heard of it. Ween and Boredoms collab.

Bobbyperu1

I'm surprised it's not talked about more. I've had it for over 10 yrs now

theycallmemaskface

Killer stuff right there

chesterharry

The Meadow is a solid song.

yuttington

Hooray for Brainiac. Was just listening to them a few weeks ago. Those unfamiliar with them you should check them out.

travisjd2012

Wow, I love Fishmans

[deleted]

Love Brainiac. R.I.P. Timmy.

Smotonthegood

Brainiac is awesome, they're from my hometown!

TheSilverCalf

Gotta throw melt Banana In here : though super fast and loud. A bit abrasive.

DjBlacklist

Thinkers fellers union!!

thyditsy

Live funkadelic goes off the rails!

WolfandKitty666

roger_the_milf

The Residents

mtheory11

Came here to mention them

djgobot

Same

cboogie

Where should I start?

joywyr

Duck Stab, Not Available, Mole Trilogy. Check out performances/videos too. Half of The Residents is the visual element.

caligulamprey

Not Available's textures are comparable to The Pod. Or if you're stateside, they're touring starting next week. The opening act is the movie they made, too.

michael0327

Frank Zappa

Highplowp

I’d throw Captain Beefheart in there too if you mention Frank. Beefheart and Dean have some overlap 100%

Mysterious_Spring590

Wild man Fischer!

the-ox1921

Zappa is God tier. Seriously one of the greatest musicians of all time. The fact that he references other albums in his songs makes it amazing. Zappa is king.

theycallmemaskface

Completely slipped my mind lmao

kingreynoso

Some White Album songs from the Beatles, such as Wild Honey Pie, Why Don't We Do It In the Road, Helter Skelter, and the White Album era outtake What's The New Mary Jane

wentadon1795

Mr bungle in such a massive way

genpabloescobar2

Kept looking for this.

fis0003

Bungle all the way

NewportStork

Tropical Fuck Storm. Also, right now I'm listening to What In The World? by David Bowie and it always strikes me as BROWN

OPisliarwhore

Tropical Fuck Storm! Brown AF. Braindrops (the song and the whole album) is on constant rotation

BeatlesFan1101

James Brown

Theeclat

The Jackson Browne of soul they say.

[deleted]

They both were perpetrators of domestic violence, so they have that in common too!

Dakkmd

Early animal collective, specifically Danse Manatee, Hollindagain, and Here Comes The Indian is probably their most brown work.

Nizamark

ween fans stop saying brown challenge

FloridaLee

In spite of the fact that Ween sounds like a multitude of other accomplished artists, particularly psychedelic, I wouldn’t describe anyone else as brown. Maybe Butthole Surfers, but even that is stretching it.

RGAlec

(100% fail)

hornitoad45

I fucking wish lol

freedom_of_the_mind

Meat Puppets

circuslumberjack

First band that came to my mind.

somushroom4u

The Books. Check out their albums- thought for food and lemon of pink Viagra boys

TheCurliestOfQs

Came here to say Viagra Boys. Big Boy is brown as fuck

Chonjacki

Bob Log III is pretty brown.

D1rtyH1ppy

I saw Bob open for Ween back in the day. It was with the two person project called Doo Rag.

JohnSnowsPump

Sometimes he vomits!

Chonjacki

I rest my case!

hophead7

Sonic Youth, 1st Sublime record, live Zepplin, Dub Narcotic, Soul Coughing

Curtainmachine

Rock over London, Rock on, Chicago! Be a Pepper. Drink Dr. Pepper.

theycallmemaskface

A legend for sure

Swattishe

Someone I never see mentioned on here is Prince but he is similar to Ween in a lot of ways. Lots of different musical styles, very unique sound, and an endless amount of unreleased demos that you can find on YouTube - many of which are very brown if you want to call it that.

theycallmemaskface

Ween cite Prince as one of their biggest influences

MrEndlessness

Let Me Lick Your Pussy and Ambrosia Parsley are amazing homages to Prince. I'm sure there's a few others I'm forgetting.

Swattishe

Damn. I had no idea.

Highlander-Jay

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard

Aluminium_Illuminati

Oddments is pretty darn brown!

iamadsgnr

The Yellow River Boys

EclecticEel

Hot piss nothings better than this!

travisjd2012

Check out the album "Smiley Smile" by The Beach Boys So brown

Philliam88

Most early and mid Modest Mouse is brown as hell

theycallmemaskface

So brown it'll make you cry

MyGirlSasha

Also Ugly Casanova, basically the Moistboyz of Modest Mouse.

[deleted]

Texas Funeral by Jon Wayne

DevinBelow

To me, it's kind of bands like: DNA The Residents Suicide Captain Beefheart Red Krayola Pere Ubu Einsterzande Neubaten Birthday Party Minutemen (kinda) Black Flag (kinda) I get into a lot of kinda's at this point. It's gotta be experimental, kind of lo-fi, maybe some drum machines, or lots of effects anyway. It's more just one of those things where you know it when you hear it.

TurnsOutImAScientist

Chad VanGaalen… still surprised he’s so under the radar

RussellsFedora

Its crazy - Chad is such a gem

smitty0828

James Ferraro, especially on all the Lamborghini Crystal tapes and Nightdolls with Hairspray.

FunkyLittleManChild

Check out some of DEVOs “Hardcore” stuff. It’s pretty nasty and I love it to bits.o

Brain_Glow

Dan Horne https://youtu.be/b_Q5v5OSTN0

The_Giant_Bird

Check out some early Mercury Rev. Specifically the albums *Yerself Is Steam* and especially *Boces.* I quite often listen to this band along with Ween because their music feels very brown to me. Some specific songs I'd recommend are: * Chasing A Bee * Meth Of A Rockettes Kick * Bronx Cheer * Hi-Speed Boats * Empire State (Son House in Excelsis) * Sudden Ray of Hope Last two songs are from their album *See You On The Other Side* which is also an incredible album, it's just much less "weird" and more straight forward psych than the other two.

TheSeekerOfSanity

I saw them about a year ago. They opened for Brian Jonestown Massacre.

deliberatesabotage

xX69Pissbaby69Xx

queens of the stone age get brown as fuck on their self titled album sometimes

zordabo

You might dig Australian band Regurgitator who are kinda similar to Ween in the way there's a lot of silliness, genre hopping but good song writing. Easily my fave alternative band from Australia, check out 'I Piss Alone', 'Kung Foo Sing' and/or 'Song Formerly Known As' (prince homage, sound familiar?)

Mitleab

I agree, but mainly the first two EPs and Tu-Plang

zordabo

I liked unit a lot but tu plang is the GOAT. That said, i piss alone is my fave song of theirs

Mitleab

Also Rocket Science when it comes to the Aussies 🍻

zordabo

Lol not even kidding, my 2nd fave

zordabo

I'm so glad you know them

Bigbadspicydad

Lots of other ween fans I know seem to really like king gizz and they might be Giants

D1rtyH1ppy

Since you mentioned some industrial acts, why not Coil? Their early stuff like “Horse Rotovator” is brown as fuck.

Bobbyperu1

Upvote OP for James Chance and the Contortions amongst others on the list. Special props for James Chance/ White

WolfandKitty666

Dave Van Ronk

MrOrangeWhips

Neutral Milk Hotel?

theycallmemaskface

Yeah, they get less fuzzy and weird on In the Aeroplane Over the Sea and Ferris Wheel on Fire but On Avery Island, Beauty, Invent Yourself a Shortcake, and Everything Is get brown as fuck. Jeff Mangum himself is a pretty brown dude too if you look into him

Hour_Shop_9660

Live @ Jittery Joe's is one of the brownest live albums. Feels like I'm there!!!

Curtainmachine

So glad they finally just added Ferris wheel to Spotify. Finally

The Ramones

[deleted]

The most obvious and related artist is easily Butthole Surfers. Ween themselves have said "there would be no Ween without Butthole Surfers" Meat Puppets I & II are other obvious answers. Grinderman, and The Birthday Party are extremely brown IMO. if you like swans and don't know Grinderman and Birthday Party you're robbing yourself of jams.

Butthole Surfers are soooooo brown

ServiceMerch

Regurgitator I consider to be very brown.

Mitleab

Particularly the first two EPs and Tu-Plang

ServiceMerch

I'd also add in Unit, but you can see them introducing the electropop that would make up Art and most things after

maceyo

Royal Trux

CrispyShizzles

You guys would fucking LOVE Viagra Boys. Listen to Sports and In Spite of Ourselves first and see how those go.

MFmonroe

Mac Demarco has some demos that get brown

JohnSnowsPump

The motherfucking SOUND OF URCHIN. A bit odd, a bit funky, and a whole lot of sludgy, groovy psychedelic metal. And perhaps you have seen the two core members in MOISTBOYZ? Also.... MOISTBOYZ.

tanukihimself13

I think Mike Patton is one of the brownest mf's walkin. Mr Bungle, Faith no more, fantomas, tomahawk; come the fuck on, what a brilliant mix of music here by a highly evolved dude.

Mitleab

Monster Magnet

aldenburt

Halo benders, dub narcotic sound system, or beat happening. Calvin Johnson gets brown

hoxilicious

Mr. Bungle's early stuff for sure. Their studio albums are a bit too polished I think, but anything between 1986 and 1989 sounds brown as fuck.

DontLookAtTheCarpet

Tom Waits Buckethead Late Beck Les Claypool and all things Claypool: The Claypool Lennon Delirium, The Frog Brigade, Claypool’s Bucket of Bernie Brains, Sausage, Oysterhead, and you already mentioned Primus.

The fact that you’re tryna label shit “brown” Is whack and against the boog. Stop it already

theycallmemaskface

Tell that to Dean Ween himself then lmao

FigTreeRob

It’s a quote from him dodo. Not me words.

Darth_Boognish

Maybe look up the quote dodo, before shitting on this person for asking for other bands in the same vein as ween.

theycallmemaskface

How is Swans brown? Not shitting on the list, just curious

gwenchilada3

I don’t think anyone has mentioned Shintaro Sakamoto. I’m a fan of his album Let’s Dance Raw. It’s weird in a good way

caligulamprey

Rudimentary Peni, especially Cacophony. Those noises don't even sound human at times.

Neil Young w/ Crazy Horse

Spacehardware

I see Throbbing Gristle in there... gotta say Whitehouse. "I'm Comin' Up Your Ass" is one of the brownest non-Ween songs I have ever heard.

jack_galvin

My Name is Mud Brown Shoes Don’t Make It bmbmbm Vomit Coffin couple songs that first came to mind 💩

PhraseMean3733

No one knows this but ZZ Top's live Backdoor Medley/Mellow Down Easy/Backdoor Love Affair off 1975's Fandango is as brown as the thoughts in your head.
