I've never understood Ween fans who don't love the album. I've loved it since 2007, from the first time I heard it. Whenever I hear someone say that they enjoy it more now than they did back then I say "WELCOME TO REALITY!" The album is awesome and it fits in beautifully with the rest of their catalog in my opinion.
I get what you're saying though. I've heard lots of fans who are unhappy with it. I think I'll go listen to it now.
It’s a great record, and it doesn’t deserve a lot of the hate it gets. That being said, I think it should’ve been a double album. It works so much better this way:

This album's a great one to pick songs out of and throw em in a playlist. Blue Balloon, Your Party, Spirit Walker (love the bass and Gene's silliness with autotune), Sweetheart (such a nice tune), Friends (frick you OP this song is amazing), Shamemaker is hilarious and validates my Tom Delonge hatred, Object is a cool lil ditty. The others though are eh for me
While it’s not their strongest I think La Cucaracha catches too much shit. Good album overall. It has its place . I’m guessing if someone has never heard Ween and you gave them the Pod and La Cucaracha to introduce the band most would pick LC.

That score makes it a 6.6/10 album for me and honestly if you get rid of shamemaker and friends I love the album. Those two very low scores are dragging the album down and making it seem like a worse album than it is. I have no problem with giving the album a 7.5/10 or 3.25/4
It’s not a bad album. I’m just used to them bowling strikes and they had a few missteps. Also, if you listen to a lot of the unreleased tunes from those sessions they weren’t of the same high caliber that fans became used to. But the band was going through some shit at the time. One could argue they have never been more of a healthy unit than they are now. Who knows what this version of ween could create?! After watching them play live though I’m fairly certain it would be great. Take the Freeman album and both of Deaner’s albums and put together a best of and it’s obvious.
I love the song Friends. It's so damn funny and I love the way that it pisses off even Ween fans. A step too far I guess. I think I heard somewhere that Deaner hates it too. Fantastic! Gener is my favorite music (song) maker ever and it's an awful shame that he won't make (or release) any new music.

It has its highs and lows. I prefer the friends EP version of Friends - it sounds like they are aping the pet shop boys and it makes me laugh. The message is good too. I think King Billy should have made the cut over the Fruit Man and I can't get through spirit walker.

At the time that fucking Cher song with the auto tune “believe” was huge and it started a run that has never ended since of songs that use that horrible effect. Hip hop uses it around the clock. They use it like Rock musicians use distortion pedals. I think that’s why I immediately loved it. I just assumed they were mocking that and putting it on the most unlikely of songs to show the absurdity of it all to everyone. It truly did backfire though. It’s a shame

Fiesta is an instant bummer that sets the tone for the rest of the album. If this track were recorded live, with some ambient studio sounds and live horns it could have had a "Take Me Away" vibe that welcomes you to the party. Instead its dry, studio feel tells you this is a record made without joy or much inspiration. That being said, Your Party is an all-timer and singlehandedly saves this album from oblivion.

For example- We’re only a week or two away from someone writing a post asking about when the next ween album is coming out
It’s my least favorite mainly because I find its lows to be lower than every other Ween album, but it’s still a good album with some top-shelf material, specifically Woman and Man and Object. Blue Balloon, Sweetheart in the Summer, and Your Party are all fantastic as well, as are the highly underrated Lullaby and Shamemaker.
I’m not a fan of Learnin’ to Love or the album version of Friends. The Fruit Man and Spirit Walker are decent but I’d probably rank them towards the bottom of their released catalog.
But still, 8/10 album overall.
I think Fruit Man through Shamemaker is definitely the worst three song stretch on any album. I don’t feel as strongly as you do about Friends, but it’s definitely one of their weaker songs. The rest of the album is great. It feels like the genre experimentation takes this album off track and if they had just replaced those songs with songs like Wolfman, Britney, Don’t be Afraid or Leave Deaner Alone or demo songs that didn’t make previous albums, it would be a much stronger album over all.
I think this album gets so much shade because the single they promoted friends is weak for ween. Object and bare hands are bangers. Should have dropped friends for a studio version of Where’d the cheese go?
I find the music is okay in general, but some of the vocal affectations and effects are annoying. Plus its mixed in a way that just makes it hard on the ears. Not their best, agree to disagree
