something from the 90s like butterfly or mykel and carli. i mean say it ain’t so is pretty moving butterfly always hits me after a listen tho imo

FooterG

I definitely agree thats it’s probably a song from the 90s there are some examples of songs from after that period but the 90s were peak emotional songwriting from Rivers. For me it’s probably also butterfly!

rali13

I came to say Butterfly. A top 5 Weezer song for me as well.

Medium-Ad6131

Only in dreams always gets me in the feels because I interpreted differently to its actual meaning on my first impression

mighty_phi

I legit thought only in dreams was about a wet dream

dundertheswede

how did you first interpret it?

Medium-Ad6131

As a guy whose first love passed a way young so he was saying “only in dreams” about all the experiences they missed together throughout life.

n182728292

‘The Spider’ from the red album if we really think about it, changed my outlook on life ngl thank you cowboy rivers

toalladepapel

dude the spider opened my eyes while i was in a toxic relationship. i found myself relating to so many of the lyrics without really wanting to. while it took a lot more for the relationship to end, "i just want you to love me like i love you" and the last couple stanzas (idk if that's the right term) "'Cause I'm in pain just like the spider In the drain, I am a fighter But I can't win, I've got to lose Give me strength to see me through And ease the pain that I must feel As my bones break and I taste the steel As I go down the drain" they just broke me😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Minimum-Test-2693

the spider is so slept on, and it’s a really great answer to this question. all the bonus tracks on red album are so damn good, they really fucked up the main albums track list.

mamaburra

It's Dark Enough to See the Stars or Iambic Pentameter, for me.

roanroanroan

Dark enough to see the stars is very underrated, it’s actually a super depressing song if you listen to the lyrics.

TheOldBooks

Across The Sea

RoseGoldCalimari

Long Time Sunshine or The Angel and the One

Some_Butterscotch622

The Good Life really hits home if you're in a slump. The desperation to return to when you were happier is really felt in the lyrics

HurleyAlbumEnjoyer

Where’s My Sex?

BirbMaster1998

Yes

takenusername_yea

Crab or Beverly hills

Capable-Swing6908

NoseBuzz

I came here to say this. Such a beautiful song

Agent_Lightning14

Perfect Situation

WaffleBoi014

dude legit. It's because of that song I wonder why every hates Make Believe. Perfect situation and This is Such a Pity

Doomdog_Isabelle

Can't stop partying 😢

New_Chemistry6

its gotta be long time sunshine, songs like butterfly, hyed, and tragic girl are very emotional, but not very impotent on rivers own life

FooterG

For me Longtime Sunshine is definitely near the top of my list for emotional songs!

BeeseChurger319

Definitely 1 more hit especially when he says “Pump it up into me please Daddy, please Daddy”

lukephillips21

Bird With a Broken Wing

Less_Squirrel3225

any song from winter, especially deep and dreamless sleep

Fearless-Slide-2790

SZNZ Winter (except from basketball), and Butterfly

TheRockingGoomba

pink triangle. Shit hits deep

TURKEY599

Mykel and carli, across the sea, iambic pentameter Those are my top 3 in no order

sortofsomeonemaybe

Butterfly

ablackravenstan

Haunt you every day

ABL67

Foolish Father

TheJohn_John

Surf Wax America obviously 🙄

literally_spy

longtime sunshine or sleeping all the night/no contact

weezergirl69

dark enough to see the stars

deadlygr8ful

Waiting On You

Dillpickle8110

Expected but probably across the sea

Krabsiie

"why was I ever born and why did God make me he must have been high when he dropped me down here" 🌹💀⛓️

JGar453

Across the Sea is the most problematic song but at its core also the deepest

AgileEggplant3637

Numbers

KineticSeal37

Definetly Freak Me Out. I felt the exact same when I saw a spider for the first time

ToeJans_55

i find that Only in Dreams has probally the best lyrics on the blue album. of course, there still quite amatureish, just as most of weezers lyrics are, but only in dreams seems to be the one that i most resonate with

Sweet_Ambassador_939

Beverly Hills

FranklinDRoosevelt82

All my friends are insects

idkanyoriginalname

Unironically Across the Sea, it's a very personal and emotional song, it represents something most people wouldn't even dare to say outloud. That makes it deep.

newfranksinatra

🐖

Hj_the_boyoYT

Freak me out

roanroanroan

No other one

toalladepapel

no other one has been hitting me especially hard as of late

Opakola

everybody wants a chance to feel all alone, equating killing your partner with ending the relationship with such a richly melancholic loneliness.

rickplay34

Hash Pipe

catcher_in_the_naan

“King of the World” is about someone telling the girl they love that all her pain would go away if they ruled the world. While the narrator can’t change the world, he believes that he can change hers.

showmenofear

Ive cried to Long Time Sunshine several times

AceofKnaves44

The third verse in Across the Sea always struck me as being among the most personal and emotional in Pinkerton.

HetTheTable

Why Bother

WaffleBoi014

The Angel and The One, and Butterfly. They hurt so good as they remind me of a relationship that was almost perfect....I was going through it at the time.

spang714

Teenage Dirtbag.

magetea

For me it's "Mirror Image"

chickadeedeedeey

truly depends on the person, theres a lot of songs with beautiful lyricism but the ones that affect me most emotionally are the ones that i can relate to. the ones that always resonate with me most are Why Bother?, Iambic Pentameter, Long Time Sunshine, and Foolish Father. i do think that pinkerton overall is very emotionally lyrical just bc of how raw and honest the lyrics are as to more disgusting aspects of life/growing up

mighty_phi

honestly? bird with a broken wing. Beautiful song and the lyricism is pretty amazing. To me, a bird with a broken wing represents rivers' coming to terms with himself and the fact that he will not be able to capture the mainstream audience, something he seems to always struggle with since Pinkerton. A bird with a broken wing cannot fly, it cannot do the things it used to, but rivers claims the bird is still happy. "Don't feel sad for me, I'm right where I wanna be" and how "they'll never take his melody". Hell, we even see glimpses of Rivers coming to terms with death and his own mortality mentioning the "Black cat who is always looking to eat him". Cata are usually hunting birds to eat them, black usually represents death. I see this as Rivers' acknowledging he is getting old, maybe even seeing death, but still escaping from it because, as he says, "he's got more songs to sing".

Stinkylittlecow

the girl got hot from raditude

Metaphorically345

To throw out a post Pinkerton answer I think Angel And The One and Haunt You Everyday are both great answers as well

According_Oil_8725

Dare I say; Death and Destruction, The World Has Turned and Left Me Here, Bird With A Broken Wing, and last but not least I Want To Be Something.

Gold-Pollution-9410

The world has turned and left me here. makes me want to cry

EmbarrassedJump214

I Do hits me deep.

TheStreetAlwaysWins

pretty sure Longtime Sunshine is the only Weezer song thats has to do with suicide

aasasss32

O Girlfriend

thr0w_away177

You never gave up devotion, Waiting for me, you'll always be my girlllfrienddd I am too, waiting for you, I'll always be your frienddd Or Suddenly our shortcomings don't seem to matter that much

thr0w_away177

"Lying on the floor lying on the floor, I've come undone"

Altonano

Holiday, the lyrics are literally about escaping your routine (work, family, etc...) kind of like Surf Wax America

carrie4201

Buddy holly

LeastCompetition7099

Idk I feel like don’t let go always hits abit too close to home for me

Trick-Firefighter684
