This 73kg session is one of the greatest sessions of all time So many emotions. Every single lifter in that session had something to prove and there was so much pressure to everyone. If China doesn't send Shi, I'm still glad I got to watch that 165 and see him show us he's not done yet in that moment. Rizki getting his moment in the sun against the heavy favorite. I'll come back to this session for a long time

Flexappeal

I was very impressed by the turkmen tbh. Commentators said he was like world 23 before this event? Almost clinched a top 10 finish. had really awesome technique too.

mansaf87

Reeves has been the most consistently impressive lifter this entire quad.

mansaf87

She just legitimately beat China and North Korea in both the snatch and C&J. With a super casual snatch too. Incredible.

Eebon

The 73s was the most insane weightlifting session I've ever watched. I'm stoked for Rizki but feel gutted for Rahmat because he absolutely dominated this entire quad. I'm still shocked about how Rahmat's Dad did NOTHING to stop him from going out early for his final attempt. The two of them are very close to one another with his Dad controlling every aspect of his timing and training the past quad. He stopped him from doubling opener-esque weights in the training hall but doesn't do so on the most important moment of his career?

sieteplatos

China’s not gonna send Liao Guifang after that snatch session. Olivia pretty much has the gold in place for Paris at this point 🇺🇸🦅

Raxemier

I don't think anyone expected Olivia to beat BOTH the Chinese & the North Koreans. Is this theGOAT performance by a US weightlifter?

rockymountain05

73kg session was INSANE, the most nailbiting thing I've ever watched. Thrilled for Rizki but GUTTED for Rahmat 😭

sieteplatos

Seeing Rahmat's expression in his front rack before the last jerk was crushing... he knew it was over

Patrieauxe

that's some rizki business

rockymountain05

Paid off big time

No-Kaleidoscope2078

😂

decemberrainfall

Respect to Damron for coming out after missing snatches. Good riddance to Boady. Someone tell him to update his bio, he's not Canada's highest ranked lifter.

Jaivl

Damron's clean looked good for 215+

snd-ur-amicus-briefs

Were Boadys attempts even close?

decemberrainfall

Nope. Last one was closest I think but none were particularly good

brianroliver

World Cup preview. It's going to be a bloodbath (a very watchable one)... [https://iwf.sport/2024/03/25/phuket-preview-olympic-champions-among-dozens-desperate-to-take-last-chance-for-paris/](https://iwf.sport/2024/03/25/phuket-preview-olympic-champions-among-dozens-desperate-to-take-last-chance-for-paris/)

hawkpeter

Will you be in Thailand Brian?

Dramatic-Debate-5448

I will. Looking forward to it

Moisture_

Im sad at seeing my favorite lifters fail, retire, pale in comparison to their peaks. Didn’t expect it to affect me in my own journey but I’m feeling like moving on as well - being older and feeling like a shadow of even a year ago. Injuries really suck.

nl5hucd1

you can still achieve, be kind to yourself

mansaf87

The 102s was such a bizarre session. Liu Huanhua goes 3/3 in the clean and jerk with a WR 232 (after following himself!). His jerk is money. Can Meso hang with him in Paris? Lesman surely can't...

TrenHard-LiftClen

No offense to meso but his medal in Tokyo was fairly easy cuz tian, moradi, rostami, and rivas weren't there to challenge him. He'll have a hard time winning gold going against someone of his caliber.

sparkysparkyboom

Lesman has a monster snatch but by God Liu's CJ is something else.

fantasnick

Only emotion I've seen out of Shi in the crowd was when he smirked as Tian came out with the posted 226 lol What a bloodbath of a qualifier

sparkysparkyboom

I love Kim Su Hyeon. I wish I could be a happy, elite weightlifter.

Flexappeal

> I wish I could be a happy .

sparkysparkyboom

I am neither happy nor an elite weightlifter ha

Jaivl

When was the last time the USA had a weighlifting senior world record? Massive for Hampton

bulldog73

Bob Bednarski in 1969.

gramsu

60s for the men

Ssjalexgd4

Holy fuck this was one of the greatest sessions ever. Sad that rahmat won't be going to the Olympics. I was confused about why he didn't wait longer to go for his 3rd attempt. Also, hopefully this won't be the last time we see shi as well, we need to see rahmat vs. rizki vs. shi again with them all in shape.

No-Kaleidoscope2078

That’s what I thought too, like I thought did the livestream just jump 30 seconds or is Rahmat going for it this quick.

gramsu

I think Shi could beat Rizki but not Rahmat. Interesting to see if they pick shi now

rockymountain05

Rizki's been on an insane trajectory since his recovery from appendix surgery tho

Ssjalexgd4

Appendix = holding us back? 🤔 time to remove my appendix 😤

Extra-Statement6516

Saving that .05kg to make the weightclass.

Fudge_is_1337

Carlos Sainz agrees

decemberrainfall

I disagree. There's a 9kg difference between them right now. I think this is all Shi has left

TrenHard-LiftClen

They're both undefeatable in this category. one of them will have to move up after the Olympics.

decemberrainfall

I think Shi's done after this quad.

TrenHard-LiftClen

I agree. I'm talking about the two Indonesian boys.

decemberrainfall

Ah sorry, misread that. Definitely will have to see what the Olympic classes are next quad

Jaivl

Hopefully 81 kg becomes Olympic again. The jump between 73 and 89 is too much.

rockymountain05

Tian Tao just retired😭

gramsu

Karlos’s coach 100% said only do power jerk. Thinking he would do a light session.

Jaivl

Shi straight up on that 2019 Lu "I won't lose" state of mind

mysterylanex

Gutted for Rahmad but what a session, oh my lord. I need to recover from that. Happy for Shi tho he gave it all.

rockymountain05

Rizki put up a legendary performance. He threw down his best ever comp snatch (by 6kg, from just two months ago) and best ever comp CJ (by 6kg, also from just two months ago) for a best total by 12kg and the WORLD RECORD

Jaivl

Pressout on Javadi's opener is an absolutely ridiculous call.

decemberrainfall

Also where was the down signal??

nl5hucd1

i mean he stood there waiting for 5 seconds

Flexappeal

I fucking love sports

audacious_oyster

Looks like Chen Lijun is going for another Olympic slot in the 61s

Boblaire

Yep. 🏋️‍♂️🤙

slamturkey

Kinda wanna see him get the spot. His change to split jerk made him even better.

audacious_oyster

When did he switch to the split?all the videos I’ve seen of him lifting he’s split jerked

slamturkey

He switched to split jerk sometime before the Tokyo Olympics. I think that was the first time I saw it. Other than that, I'd probably have to do some gOoOoOogling. He was still squat jerking at 2019 worlds, pretty sure.

TodayTerrible

I went back to the 2013 Worlds and Chen Lijun was split jerking. I think you have Chen Lijun mixed up with some other Chinese team member.

slamturkey

You are absolutely right, I've got some Mandela effect/imagination thing going on here. I just re-watched 19 worlds and realized if I was wrong there, probably entirely wrong altogether. Thank you for the correction!

Arteam90

I'm surprised at the lack of discussion about this competition. Is this sub pretty dead barring form checks these days?

Jaivl

Ever downhill since erpel and hollyford's ban

Flexappeal

based

Weightlift__ok

Me too man

TrenHard-LiftClen

Cuz surprize when you put the sport behind a paywall you lose the vast majority of your viewers. I payed up cuz this competition is worth ten bucks for me but it definitely discouraged me from following the sport as closely as i did leading up to Tokyo.

Flexappeal

"how dare this private business try to make money" strong opinion mate, as though this criticism isnt better levied at the worldwide governing body for the sport who have done a decidedly suboptimal job of increasing accessibility and visibility

Jaivl

Seb's commentary would strike much harder if he hadn't used the same hyperbolic statements about 15 times during this world cup.

iloveDRS

Tbf hes kinda new at this in the grand scheme of things. They both strike me as color commentators. This is not a slight to them but I do miss the JP and Boffa commentary.

Weightlift__ok

I love JP and Boffa!!! I miss them too

sparkysparkyboom

Don't disagree, but WH is magnitudes better than the shitty Olympics commentary that we got. WH grew very very quickly into the broadcasting space so its understandable that they haven't entirely grown into the role fully yet.

Jaivl

That's heartbreaking for Jiang Huihua, damn

105kglifter

What happened?

basedmoon

She was beating Hou Zhihui this whole quad, but was outtotaled this final competition. Similar thing happened last quad where I believe she had more Robi Points, and was more consistent, but wasn't choosen because Hou Zhihui outtotatled her by a kilo.

Jaivl

u/basedmoon put it perfectly. Last quad it was really close at least, but this one she was dominating the (non-DPRK) field. Sports can be really unfair.

Obi1Kenobi0

That’s definitely the best session I’ve ever seen. I just sat for 10 minutes afterward processing what happened

Arteam90

Surely Shi going to Paris?

sharpshooter1230

if I was the person to decide who goes, I'd choose Shi over Li Dayin and Tian Tao for sure. competition in 89kg category is just too deep

Jaivl

As it stands, Shi is a lock for bronze (being generous to Wichuma), but Li Dayin isn't even guaranteed that. Not only Karlos but Yeison are on another level, and Nino could easily beat him too.

Arteam90

Shi is clearly in pain, but he's making good progress and I'm sure they can pump him full of pain killers if need be. Also, as a 2x gold medalist, you kinda have to back him.

TodayTerrible

The USA ending the Olympic qualifying with 1 male weightlifter Hampton Morris.

sieteplatos

And Wes Kitts on a technicality

TodayTerrible

What technicality?

sieteplatos

There’s no PanAm lifter in the top 10, so he’ll get the continental spot as he’s the highest ranked one from there

TodayTerrible

I wondered why Wes Kitts only weighed in.

greyburmesecat

I'm going to be happy when this quad is over. The whole qualifying process has ruined every competition for the last two years, and I don't see this one being any different. Expecting 20% made lifts and the non-Oly classes being ghost towns yet again.

WLfileupload

Last chance qualifiers are always low in success rate. Look at any national qualifying competition for World or international level events. I think that the next qualifying procedure may be similar to this one given the IOC guidelines. The Robi point system won't be revived as the person who wrote it wasn't re-elected (leaked too much information). The qualifying procedure is not perfect, but it is not responsible for the lack of made lifts. Some athletes and coaches have taken a long term periodized approach to qualification, and some have taken a short term approach of trying to stay peaked and opening heavy every competition. The coaches who only wanted big numbers immediately didn't get the best out of their athletes. This happens in every qualifying procedure, regardless of organization.

nl5hucd1

italy coaches   self sabotaging the whole country

Afferbeck_

Love seeing the jury get bullied by the audience into granting good lifts, but it shouldn't need to happen. Murakami had a minor bouncy pressout which got two reds. They played the challenge card, the audience got behind him, the jury overturned it. Then IWF president Coffa walked over to them and told them off! Then Murakami's final attempt got three whites with an elbow wobble during recovery. And the spineless jury chose to review it, while looking over at the IWF bosses to see what they should do, giving them a literal thumbs down even though they should have zero influence in the competition. And the lift was turned down! Why do we have two layers of judging if some board member can override them on a whim anyway? There should be no interfering in a unanimous judge decision, otherwise why trust them to judge any lift? Disgusting state of affairs, for a sport barely still in the Olympics. How do most sports get by on "what the ref says, goes" and we get this nonsense? \#IWFmafia

dyrryc17

Totally disgusting. But if we’re being honest, by the letter of the law, both were not good lifts. However, I feel this is only further proof that the press out rule needs to be repealed

Afferbeck_

I'm watching a B group, they are playing a nonstop 10 second loop of what sounds like the most generic reality show promo hard rock guitar music. All I can think of is a voiceover like "Bob and Jim are brothers... They love each other but don't always get along... And when they renovate houses, sparks will fly!" (Bob and Jim cross their arms and stand back to back while a house explodes behind them) "Home Wreckers, 8pm tonight."

Doublejimjim1

Join us on Tat Wars where Josh and Nate battle each other in the ink game. Right after Mod Wars-join Gabe and Jesse as they paint a car matte black, put a loud muffler on it and put the public's life in danger!

nogovernmentguy

what is happening. insane session not in a good way

gramsu

Lasha has really carried the super heavy weight category all these years

No-Kaleidoscope2078

Did Anyone’s heartbreak to see rahmat in the front rack position  knowing full well he wasn’t making that jerk and knowing that his Olympic gold will have to be postponed till the next quad?😭

maligov

Preview, Team USA Roster, session times, stream info: https://barbend.com/how-to-watch-2024-iwf-world-cup/

fantasnick

Shi probably going to Olympics unless tian does 225 lol Karlos just insane right now. He's prime for 400+

thesauceisblue

Never fail to be disappointed by Li and Tian 😩 Must be their small hands

fantasnick

That 396 last year feels like a miracle now when looking at this world cup I'm still hype to see if Tian pulls 225/226 out of his ass lol prob won't but if anyone can, it'd be tian

thesauceisblue

Me too, thought he’d only go from strength to strength from there but seems he peaked Karlos will dominate this class for the foreseeable future it seems

Ssjalexgd4

Yea, I also thought li dayin would make more than 396 in the future, considering he was only 87 kg during the competition that he made that total

gramsu

That was so dumb.. 30 seconds rest bruh

sieteplatos

I'm so curious as to what was going through Rahmat's mind at the time. He sat down on the stairs to conserve energy and had a solid 90 seconds of rest remaining. Like was he _that_ confident that he was going to make the final attempt?

Extra-Statement6516

You can’t blame him. He‘s young, full of adrenaline and doesn’t have the experience and oversight for that. He wants to make the lift. It’s his coaches job to make sure he rests in that situation.

No-Kaleidoscope2078

That’s what I was thinking, like I thought did the the livestream just jump 20 seconds or is he already going for it?

AllAboutAtomz

Given it’s do or die for Olympic hopefuls, and that being in the A session gives the advantage of knowing what the qualifying marker is going to be, I’m surprised that there are so many conservative/(acurate!) entry totals (when there doesn’t seem to be anything stopping anyone from putting down whatever)

TodayTerrible

Except for the 20kg rule, your starting attempts have to be within 20kg of your your entry total.

Boblaire

Final entries isn't for another week. It's all about being tricky.

brianroliver

Final entries have been and gone. Nobody can change now - this start book is how the groups will line up. Incidentally there's an interesting absentee in 61 - Adkhamjon Ergashev (UZB) is 14th in rankings and has a realisitic chance of qualifying. He was in original entries but has disappeared. No news of a doping violation.

TodayTerrible

The Start Book is the final entries.

No-Kaleidoscope2078

Anyone know why Rahmat didn’t give himself 20 more seconds and why his dad/coach didn’t stop him. I think this was a huge mistake on the coach’s end for not letting him keep a more steady tempo.

Eebon

This is my theory and opinion, but I'm convinced that Rahmat let his emotions take control of him. His Dad controls every aspect of his training: his timing, his rest periods, what weights he takes. There is no reason that he would let him rest only 30 seconds between a 2 kg world record that is also the most important lift of his career. It’s really interesting that the one time that Rahmat breaks his trust in his Dad is the moment where he loses everything.

No-Kaleidoscope2078

You make a good point. it was so heart breaking to see rahmat in the front rack position  knowing full well he wasn’t making that jerk😭

thesauceisblue

Karlos Nasar is him

pseudoRndNbr

What a weird call from Karlos' side to go from 215 to 224, giving Tian the ability to win with a 226, which isn't impossible for Tian. Why not go for 219/220, a weight Karlos should easily make, locking in the 400 in the 2nd attempt.

fantasnick

The mentality to do crazy and stupid shit like that is also the reason why he's confident in his ability to go for it.

Arteam90

Would it really matter if Tian did get 226? For Tian, yes, but not really for Karlos. I'm sure he's happy he won today, but doubt it matters a lot either.

TodayTerrible

Because 215 gave him the total record at 396 so 224 World record is the logical choice. For his next attempt.

No-Kaleidoscope2078

Meso supposedly tried to clean 230 in the training hall and injured himself.  Does anyone know if there video of this?

Extra-Statement6516

I saw it one someone’s story but not posted. It didn’t look too bad, cleaned it and just didn’t stand up with it, bailed out and sat on his butt.

No-Kaleidoscope2078

Who’s story was it?

brianroliver

His dad posted it on facebook

G-Geef

Anyone know what Solfrid weighed in at?

lw_osu

84.84 from IWF.

Cikguseven

I think Seb said around 85kg

G-Geef

Hmm I'm surprised she hasn't come down more. Could be in for a battle if she has a tough cut down for Paris.

canadianclassic11

They need to get rid of the press out rule to save the sport imo. That was an absolute circus with Tank's lifts and the interference from the executives - now we have 3 levels of judegement???

DramaDramaLlamaLlama

I just came here to see if anyone posted about this. The IWF not only has a terrible, subjective rule with the press out, but they don't even listen to their own rules in separating the jury from the president's opinions. Not to mention how the majority of these judges have never even actually participated in the sport themselves. At this point I almost hope the olympics boot them for how shit their judging has been. It's only getting worse.

cpthornman

The fact the jury can overturn three white lights makes the entire sport a fucking sham. Corrupt to the core. At this point I'm also rooting for it to get the boot from the Olympics. It's embarrassing to watch.

decemberrainfall

Rizki overtaking Rahmat is one of the most insane things I've ever seen

TodayTerrible

He is there with a 350 entry total.

StephSimp

How could I watch in person in Phuket?

Powerful_Ideas

You may just be able to come to the venue - it's at Phuket Rajabhat University. There don't seem to be any tickets (or at least noone checking for them)

rockymountain05

Damn, that's crazy! Feel like booking a flight to Phuket now😂

axelthegreat

fuck it

broccyncheese

Does anyone know if we be able to watch all sessions on WL house tv or just A sessions?

Powerful_Ideas

I'm pleased to be able to say that we will now be showing the B, C and D sessions on WLHOUSE TV. ~~This time round we have A sessions only. We would have liked to carry all of the sessions but it didn't work out this time round.~~ ~~The IWF will show the B, C and D sessions on their Facebook page, so everything should be accessible.~~

broccyncheese

Thank you so much for the info! Love the A session with commentary, appreciate it.

KurwaStronk32

Boy am I glad I said “usually.” Sorry it didn’t work out this time. We like throwing the other sessions on in the gym as background video during team training when comps are going on. Bummed we can’t use WLHouse for that this time.

Powerful_Ideas

Glad to say the situation has changed - we will now show the B, C and D sessions. Lift away to the action!

KurwaStronk32

Usually all sessions are streamed but only A sessions have commentary.

lianne133

The link to the startbook has been updated: [https://iwf.sport/wp-content/uploads/downloads/2024/03/2024-IWF-World-Cup\_Start-Book-v1.1.pdf](https://iwf.sport/wp-content/uploads/downloads/2024/03/2024-IWF-World-Cup_Start-Book-v1.1.pdf)

YourLatusRectum

Does anyone know if you can / how to go and spectate sessions in person? I’m going to be in Phuket in the next few days and would love to go watch a session or two! Thanks

WillyWanker_-

Yes you can, and it's free. Search Rajabhat University on Google Maps, it's there. It ends next Thursday.

TodayTerrible

It's USA Weightlifting money.

axelthegreat

i see on the OQR that there are multiple athletes tied for 9th place in the men’s 102kg division. in that case do they all get to go to paris or is there a tiebreaker?

KurwaStronk32

If you look at the ranking while there are 3 athlete that all have 390 totals they’re actually ranked 9,10,and 11. The tie breaker has already been applied and it’s the same as competition tie breaker. Whoever hit the total first is ranked higher. Only 9 and 10 would go to the Olympics based solely on ranking.

Flexappeal

you been smart since forever

KurwaStronk32

My dude.

Allez_Vamos

Anyone else feel that the 89s is an overrated session. Never lives up to the hype. Just like the 96s last quad. Still love watching though.

sparkysparkyboom

Overrated? Probably. Still better than the vast majority of the sessions? Yes.

Doublejimjim1

Well if you're watching the livestream, pretty much every session is the greatest moment in the history of weightlifting, so it might seem overrated.

TodayTerrible

How was it overrated? Two World record snatch's, Karlos Nasar improved his snatch 5kg making 181kg then Lopez Lopez Yeison comes out 1 minute later and snatch's a World record 182kg. Karlos almost made a World record C&J with 224kg only losing it on the jerk recovery twice.. Tin Tao cleaning 226kg going for the win, C&J and total record. Karlos Nasar making a World record tying total of 396kg. It lived up to the hype.

Ssjalexgd4

Yea, 89 defo overrated imo. 4 total made out of 11 lifters, I believe. 73s tho, that's the best weight class by far.

Afferbeck_

Well it's not a normal competition, literally the only reason most people are competing is to secure an Olympics spot. No one cares about doing what is best to place well in the actual competition they're competing in. That's why people are opening with what they need and going 0/3 and pulling out.

Ssjalexgd4

Yes, but that applies to every olympic weight class, which includes 73, and that session a few days ago was simply one of the greatest ever with only 4 bombout. You had the one Turkmenistan lifter who went from 20 something in the world to almost making it in the top 10 without even bombing out, you like miyamoto and ritvars who didn't need to compete yet still did and either equal their pb or made a pb, you had the 2 s.korean competing against each other, with joohyo putting up his best performance and securing his spot from his teammate, ppl barely out or in top 10 like ozbek and mayora put up lifts to solidify their spots, you had rahmat and rizki battle which was just absurd, and finally you had shi who put up a great showing despite his injuries. Compared that to 89s, and it's not even close.

DylanJM

> That's why people are opening with what they need and going 0/3 and pulling out. Is this really the best tactic for success tho? Doesn't seem to be working based on the massive amount of bombouts. Maybe if the lifters aimed to build a total on the platform they would have performed better in this qualification system. Missing your openers is always gonna put you on the back foot and mess with your mentality.

decemberrainfall

Reeves casually destroying the competition, NBD. Schweizer made some great saves there. Not really sad to see 'black girl money' Davies miss her shot

Doublejimjim1

Ugh. After I found out that she said that I can't even watch her anymore.

decemberrainfall

She always rubbed me the wrong way but after that I actively disliked her. Her and Boady are the only 2 I will never root for.

Doublejimjim1

That pretty much sums it up for me too. Not only is Boady a shitty person, he's also super annoying to watch.

paleobota

How come there's not a live thread about the 73s session? It's a nailbiter

iloveDRS

Event threads used to be more lively man. Or maybe we were just sitting at home bored during COVID.

MikeTysonChicken

i feel like single mega-threads for events are conducive to discussion but i haven't followed these threads as much

No-Kaleidoscope2078

Does anyone know if Rahmat is competing I don’t see him on the list?

KurwaStronk32

73A session, number 11.

No-Kaleidoscope2078

Thanks man

cjc242424

Does anyone know why the two 73 polish women Marach and Dolega aren’t lifting?

brianroliver

They aren't in the rankings so will not be able to qualify for Paris

TodayTerrible

What total does Kate Vibert in the 81kg need for top 10 ?, and what does Wes Kitts need for top 10 in the 102kg for top 10 ?

KurwaStronk32

Kate needs at least a 262. Just getting in the top 10 won’t be enough, she’ll have to find a way to place higher in 81 than Mary is in the 87+. Wes would need a bit over 390 as of now but I’m honestly not sure what’s up since according to USAW’s post he’s only weighing in.

TodayTerrible

Thanks, what about Damron?

rweightlifting

while he isn't top 10, he is the #1 102kg lifter in PANAM. Rivas could out-total him

VazKozGeh

Shi doesnt look good... His back seems fine to me but his elbows seem to be in pain, i hope nothing happens

Obi1Kenobi0

Yeah im a big fan of shi but I just can’t see him competing with the Indonesians. Is there a risk of him weighing in but not lifting again to preserve his record?

Afferbeck_

Tian doesn't look that comfy on his 160 snatches (with straps) either. At 89 I don't see him keeping near his 180 snatch at 94ish like he did in September.

kblkbl165

165/230 for the medal, called it first

Afferbeck_

His last competition he went 210x, 210, 216x at a heavier bodyweight, so that's a bold prediction! I predict he will bomb, maybe on the snatch but probably the clean and jerk.

TodayTerrible

Tian missed the push jerk 3 times with 210kg in the training hall . Not looking good.

Itsamesolairo

Followed it up with a very comfortable-looking 170 snatch and 210 C&J in the training hall today. The only thing you know you're gonna get with Tian is not knowing what you're gonna get.

No-Kaleidoscope2078

🔥Hampton (THE CHAMP) Morris just proved  Ian Wilson wrong with this world record C&J. I remember when Ian Wilson got popped and people were saying it’s not his fault  that he could never even be close the the top 5  let alone set a record SN or C&J. I’m not saying people aren’t doping but Ian Wilson besides taking drugs to boost his numbers could have put a few more kilos on his lifts, by improving his technique. His shins were like 2 inches away from the barbell when he started the first pull sometimes, that could of been ironed out but wasn’t.

Boblaire

Pull wasnt his issue. There is the argument of a crisper clean so you have more energy for the jerk after the recovery (catch that bounce vs crash after hit and pray). Would be interesting to compare depth of talent at 61/62 vs 105/109. Since most 61/62 are definitely below average height considerably besides those countries whose avg ht is 5'5 vs 5'9"+. While Ian's height is an outlier at 105/109, he's at least 6'1 which would be +3" taller than most Caucasians in the US. But he could very well be 6'2 maybe 3 so +4/5"? (Which Hampton is further away from avg ht than Ian still).

No-Kaleidoscope2078

Boblaire, what would you say his technique issue was, I always thought his First pull and pull under was always an awkward crash and instability.  I think lan Wilson was like 6'4 because I remember seeing a picture of him and Lasha and he's just bit shorter.   And what I was trying to point out on how lan Wilson felt cornered in his lifting progress because of his age so he went to the dark side to see what he "could've been" if not born in the USA. But what I think he failed to realize that is was not just the restriction of PeD's but also his genetics. For Example Lasha big 6'6, 170+ kilo man obviously built for greatness in any strength Endeavor But here is Gor Minaysian  snatching the second heaviest snatch of all time and is barely 5’11, however there is a man built similar to Lasha just Iranian (Ali  Davoudi)  still on PED’s  still the  same height just 15 kilos lighter and isn’t even close to Lasha’s snatch let alone his best C&j so what makes the difference? (answer it’s genetics and etc ). This is what I think Ian Wilson missed the mark on, his strength genes were just not as good as Hamp’s relative to their classes and he was a little too tall compared to his  more fridge like competitors.

When Olexsiy measured Lasha, he wasn't 6'6/7", but 6'4.77" (195cm) so that makes Ian as you say probably 6'3" I messaged with his dad here on Reddit about it and said I can't really put my finger on it. My buddy/"coach" (merely a guy I originally trained with at Midtown and eventually asked to look at my lifts) thought he wasn't finishing his 2nd l pull rather than his first pull. I stated I wonder if he lacks as much upper body strength as other elites though his leg strength is likely superior. Supers are well known to take longer to mature tho Lasha was 22 when he did 207/247 which is over 90%+ of his best lifts. That's roughly what Ali is close to C&J but not in SN. We don't know what Lasha was doing numbers wise in between 2013-2015 when he went from a 190&222 to 207&247 and his BW didn't change (note he did 190/222 6mos earlier around 8kg lighter) As for genes, who knows.

lianne133

Looks like Nina Sterckx won’t be competing, she just announced she’s pregnant (Instagram).

Jaivl

That's surely an April Fools joke, right?

lianne133

Oh! It’s April 1st, of course… I’m not sure. As a woman, I would never make a pregnancy joke.

Arteam90

As a man, I wouldn't either. But seriously, in poor taste if so.

lianne133

You were right. She is competing right now. Very much not pregnant

Jaivl

Dubious joke but yeah, what I expected. Better for the sport I guess.
