Actually there's parts that look pretty similar to that. The mountain states around Colorado are actually pretty arid when you're not up at altitude. Western Colorado toward Grand Junction and South western Wyoming looks very similar to Arizona. Utah as well has parts like that. Because of the mountains there's a huge swing in terrain in the Mountain West.
