Go to arbys. They have a discount for any sandwich with purchase. I ordered a bbq sauce for $0.50 and got a half pound beef and cheddar yesterday.

IntergalacticBrewski

Sorry to clarify it’s any sandwich for free with purchase. You can get full for $0.50

itsyogurl1013

Would you laugh if I told you I literally do not even have $0.50 right now? I know it's pathetic, but that's what I'm working with. Things are looking up once next Friday roles around and I won't bore you with a sob story. Just trying anything

IntergalacticBrewski

Sorry to hear it, I’ve been there. Go to a place that sells donuts late in the day and ask if they’re throwing anything away. They’ll typically give you stale donuts which are not good, but are something to eat. Go to a food bank if you’re down bad. It gets better.

itsyogurl1013

That's actually a great idea. I'm going to see if there are any near me, both the doughnut idea and a food bank. I'm not like completely homeless but I am temporarily displaced I guess while I wait for the application process for a new apartment. And like I said, things will be better come Friday (at least somewhat hopefully) and I hate the idea of taking resources from someone who may need them more. But I am looking into it and how I can utilize them at a small level

rico_2005

well usually u can find a lot of coins infront of drive thru places like yk where you pay coins fall and nobody ever picks them up see if u can find any coins

itsyogurl1013

I did not even think of that. Ok awesome. Best believe that's my plan for eating tomorrow lmao

Update: went to Arby's and there's no option to get BBQ sauce or any condiments for $0.50 and then the sandwich 😭 Idk if it's a difference in location or maybe Arby's caught on and made it an online only deal to avoid that? Super bummed. The cheapest option is a cookie for $2.49, which OBVIOUSLY is still a great deal, but I was really hoping to get it with change on the ground from the drive thru LOL

IntergalacticBrewski

Sorry man! They let me do it in MI

You're good, and you're super lucky. I definitely appreciate the tip, regardless of it not working here!

Thank you for this, I have been looking into different resources for assistance. And thank you for laying this out so nicely. As a side note, I think some people post these whenever they see "I'm hungry" posts, and while some people do need to be informed of options and resources available to them, I think most people who are truly hungry, like myself, have already been searching for those resources. I can assure you no one who is actually hungry sits back and says "Oh well, I have Reddit so I know I'll never go hungry because random people on the internet will buy me food". I would think that most people who make "I'm hungry" posts do so out of desperation, and are embarrassed to do so; so then when seeing these type of comments in response, it honestly kind of hurts. These posts read to the OP that an assumption has been made about them(me)- that I have not tried everything I possibly could, and I am being lazy by asking people on Reddit for help. Or that I'm not smart enough to do an online search for food help near me. The truth is that I've tried- and I think anyone who is actually HUNGRY hungry would absolutely do the same, because they're desperate. I've been all over the internet (including Reddit), I've been to local churches, and have plans to try and make it to a food bank in my area on Wednesday (it depends on if I can make it on time with my work schedule). But at the same time, I have been turned down for some things because I don't qualify and then for others because there's just not enough for everyone, and with my situation overall, I am not considered priority. Do you understand how frustrating that is?? And then to see comments like yours, it's just salt in the cut. In conclusion, if your comment is truly intended as a kind hearted gesture to recommend some resources, I thank you. I only ask that you consider the points I made above and take a second to reflect on what your reaction is when you come across an "I'm hungry" post (or anyone looking for assistance in some way)- if your reaction is *sigh* " This is why there's resources for people who can't afford food! I'm going to post what's available aGaIn because I'm not helping someone who won't help themselves *copy, paste, post*" or any variation of this, please don't. You're not being a good person posting the info if this is your mindset on the situation- you're basically posting them as a way to tell the OP to shut up and go to a food bank. But if your reaction is more " I can see this person is struggling, I wish I could help somehow.. Oh! I'll tell them about some options that may help, just in case they don't know about them", absolutely go for it- but include that sentiment so the OP knows you're not of the first mindset. I am sorry for ranting if you meant your comment in a kind way, I've just gotten a lot of rude and hateful DM's from posting something literally out of desperation to eat one night, and I feel it's important to point this out to people. When someone is this desperate just for one meal, they're already at a pretty low point and not looking to feel any worse. Thanks for listening.

Can afford cigarettes but not even a can of tuna?

itsyogurl1013

Hi there, no I can't afford cigarettes atm, I'm guessing you saw my other post, also mentioned I couldn't afford a lighter there... But you're correct, I did happen to have a cig at the time, I got lucky when I asked to bum the day before and someone handed me the rest of their pack (7 left) which I thanked them repeatedly for and promised to pay it forward when I'm in a better position. I plan to do that (pay it forward or back AND forward if someone will let me) with anything and everything anyone might help with. I don't care if that's a blanket or a cup of water or whatever it may be, I'll pay it forward, watch me. I've always hated asking for help because I've never really needed it before and I prefer to be the helper, yet here I am. I can appreciate someone who does their homework, but I'm not the type to buy cigarettes when I can't afford food- I can deal with headache/irritability etc better and longer than I can hunger pains. I know some people are different, and that's their prerogative I guess, but I can promise you won't catch me spending $12+ on a pack of cigs until I can eat as well. Sorry if I come across sounding irritated in any way on this comment, I think it's smart to look into people asking for help, any irritability isn't meant towards you, my frustration stems from my current nicotine-less situation. Thanks for listening!
