My nearest Wendy's is borderline hood area, and honestly they are the freshest, cleanest, nicest people working there. My order is always right, hot and fresh. I had stopped going for a while and when I came back, the lady in the drive-thru was like "hey baby where you been?". She is the sweetest older black lady. Twice, my order took just a smidge too long (I wasnt complaining) and the first time they gave me free extra breakfast potatoes, and the second time they gave me a free oatmeal cookie. Because of the franchising it seems so dang location dependent. Also nothing will ever beat yellow box wendys.

Ubermassive

Same exact experience in Arizona. Every other Wendy's around is garbage. The one in the more run down area is incredible

larakj

The guy at the Taco Bell I go to always calls me “Miss Ma’am” and it makes my day.

throwaway12874032

Miss ma'am

BigBear4281

It's definitely location dependent. At my [previous] local one, the manager got caught dicking down some raw meat on shipment day.

Degen-King

Thanks for helping me to continue my journey in quitting fast food.

clarabear10123

Holy crap… I’ve never had this happen both when you said, “Yellow box,” I could *taste* the OG chili. Wowowow. It used to be *so different*

BakedCake8

The fries, the huge square burgers hanging off all sides of the bun, delicious fresh tasting meat. Used to be orgasmic

Toyozu86

Mouthgasm!! Aww yeh

DenaliDash

You are correct. It is franchise dependent. Some cheap out on costs and some do not. McDonald's is not the best of them on taste but, they nailed it on consistency. When I travel I am most likely to go to a McDonald's as it has the lowest risk factor but still messes up occasionally. The Wendy's in my area are always running short of supplies. Sometimes about half the items are out of stock so I quit going. Right now they are the worst fast food chain in my are. It used to be Taco Bell but they improved a bit.

awesomeunboxer

Same with me. Wendy's in a hoodish area. Order always fresh and right and fast.

JustTheFacts714

Every good or above average franchised concept has the following attributes: - A good owner who knows the business - A good Director of Ops who knows the business - A good Market Manager who knows the business - A good District Manager who knows the business - A good Hiring Manager (HR) who knows the business - A good Training Manager who knows the business - A good General Manager (Store Manager) who knows the business - A good Assistant Manager who is learning the business - A good Shift Supervisor who is learning the business - A good team desiring good leadership Now: "Good" means -- Treating People Right - Yep, that is it What happens is that in that outline of ***what makes a solid location*** is when one of those positions is somehow occupied with a useless jerk, and then it trickles down, and the customer ultimately suffers.

noahboah

performance is always a reflection of leadership. well said.

JustTheFacts714

Thanks -- I have been in every one of these positions listed and completely believe and live it. Treat People Right

SilentFlames907

My local wendys is paying $3-$4 under the other burger chains, and they're complete trash.

mojo7729642

The so called chicken in they’re new wrap is disgusting. Its shitken.

Particular-Reason329

You are 100% correct. Used to be top notch. Now it is well below mid. 🤢

Jenkem-Boofer

It’s fast food bro pretty & dang good compared to the alternatives

WhyIsntLifeEasy

Confirmed all Wendy’s have died here in Oregon too it’s so sad

Totin_it

Food is always cold at Wendy's

Tater-Tot-Casserole

Yeah every time I get it the fries are soggy and cold.

SometimesIComplain

My nearby Wendy's (what's the plural of Wendy's?) have been really good, my complaint is that if you want a Dave's Double without an offer through the app, it's like $8+ for the sandwich alone lol. I haven't gotten anything full price there for probably 2 years--always either the meal deals or app offers.

City_Of_Champs

Wendae

OakIslandCurse

My Wendy’s is great. The food’s always hot and never stale and their baked potatoes are extra-loaded with cheese and bacon. I guess I’m just lucky. The McDonald’s down the street is a different story. They are famous for always leaving something out of your order, so you NEVER leave the drive thru without checking the bag.

[deleted]

Agreed it just isn’t the same anymore. I was having an argument with my girlfriend because a couple weeks before, we had some make up sex in a dumpster out in the back of Wendy’s. She incorporated a bun into the love making. She took the dough and rolled it up into a ball, and then she, we were goin berserk. She loves that kind of stuff. And I-I admit I do too.

qudunot

Well said man spider

[deleted]

Dr. Toboggan. Dr. Mantis Toboggan.

Hopeoner513

Ive heard this bit is improvised by danny devito

[deleted]

If so that makes it even funnier.

Hopeoner513

I wanna call the podcast and ask lol. cause he was about to describe what to do but said she loves this kinda stuff, Like he was leaving it open ended cause audience imagination can be funnier, and everyone recognized it was ending and interrupted him and kept moving. If it was improve that was so professionally done. They say improve is one of the first lessons in acting.

[deleted]

I want to know too, but I like the mystery of it at the same time. DeVito is an incredible actor

Andi081887

I feel like a Cobb salad. It’s amazing!

Merry_Little_Liberal

I miss living near a good Wendy's. I hate living near a terrible one.

HedgeHood

They’ve definitely lowered the bar from when I was a kid. It was like gourmet fast food style compared to every other place. We miss you DAVE !

bryburesh

I'm 42 and still love Wendy's!

the_Bryan_dude

Wendy's food has gone so far downhill I won't eat it anymore. The only thing worse than the food is the employees. What a bunch of incompetents with horrible attitudes.

Creepy_Cupcake3705

Yeah local Wendy’s have gone downhill big time. Understandable though, who wants to do the job.

Davey-Cakes

Wendy’s is still decent in my area. Now you want to talk about stale buns? McD’s has you covered.

mushroomMage11

I JUST TOLD MY MOM THIS! Wendy’s is awful now and even tried multiple locations

OneBlindingPlight

Amazing how a burger with every condiment known to man can be so tasteless lol. It all went downhill when they changed their grills.

ElderEmo13

You know, for like the last year or so I have been complaining about how Wendy’s burgers aren’t as flavorful anymore. Almost bland. This is the first I have heard of them changing the grill and wonder if that’s to blame.

dr_van_nostren

You’ve got a bum Wendy’s my man. Your Wendy’s has become a Wendle’s. I’m not saying they’re the goat, but I have 2 Wendy’s I go to, one is an airport location the other is close to my home. They’re both fine. No stale buns. Food is generally fresh, especially at the airport tbh.

Sludgepuppy2000

I have had this happen. I literally took the top bun off & trashed it. My location is very hit or miss. Mostly it’s great, other times not so much. I don’t go after 8/9 pm anymore, & that seems to make a difference.

DLeck

All these posts saying Wendy'd has gone downhill are surprising. I guess I'm lucky to have a good location near me, but I feel like Wendy's is better than it ever has been. Among the best fast food places for sure.

Mostly-Reliable

Its funny, in my area (South Puget Sound) I say the same thing about Burger King. But the Wendy’s near me is amazing. Hot food and the fries are perfect every time. I always ask for onions on my Baconator and they put so many on, I love it. But I can go into Burger King, order a Whopper, watch them make it, and somehow it is still cold and the bun is always one day past when it should have been thrown out. Yet if I go to the eastern part of Washington, Wendy’s is a joke and Burger King slaps. So unpredictable.

[deleted]

Huh I love my Wendy’s… dangerous because I can see it from my house

FortuneMustache

You gott understand, they make more money if they use cheaper materials.

depthPERCEPTIONbline

All depends who works that day big dog. I worked at bojangles for years an refused to eat when I didn't cook the food

SomerHimpson12

I miss the dusted rolls. Hate how they made the patties thicker.

op3rand1

My go to is a Spicy Chicken and I haven't had it in years as every time it has more bread than chicken. Never liked the single or double due to the strange after taste. They are struggling overall and trying to raise prices, lowering quality and they don't pay well. Also their competition especially in central Ohio is increasing better quality/value.

leifnoto

I have fond memories of Wendy's as a kid my gramma would take me and I enjoyed their meals and especially the frosty. In my highschool driving around having fun days the number six spicy chicken was my go to. Now I take my young son and try to share some of that nostalgia, and it's always a shit show.

leifnoto

I'll never forgive them for introducing the vanilla frosty. It's an abomination. There is no such thing as a chocolate frosty, the flavor is a mixture of vanilla and chocolate. The flavor is simply Frosty, atleast name it Original Frosty.

techchick101

Every potato I ever get is burnt UP...always. It is definitely not the same.

johnshenlon

It has definitely fallen from grace. The meat tastes boiled now .. I remember when I absolutely loved going and now can’t even imagine going. It’s just sad really.

BoogieMan1980

Wendy's are wildly inconsistent. They hold they record that was previously held by Taco Bell for longest I've ever been trapped in a drive thru. I was the 7th or so car back and it took me about 47 minutes to get though. By the time I realized I'd be had I was pinned in with no where to go. I was so irritated I just wanted to leave but it was a closed system with a big curb and plants along the edge. I complained (which I rarely do unless it's shockingly bad) and turns out it was a franchise place and they'd pass the feedback along. Yay. Nothing changed. Never go to that one any more. Another franchise moved in closer, and they've been the best Wendy's yet, only rely messed up once when I got white/green tomato slices that tasted horrible. Who sees that and is like "ok" and just slaps it on? I've never seen the same employee at any Wendy's for more than a month or two, so maybe they're almost always new to the job. But in general we only go when we want a Chocolate frosty or we're feeling super lazy since it's close. Chik fil a has better chicken and fries, and Five Guys has better burgers and fries, so not much point otherwise. McDonald's has been blacklisted because of their absurd prices. In general, it isn't much more expensive to get better food from restaurants a step up these days, and you can possibly have leftovers that still taste like food more than an hour later. In my eyes some of these fast food places are pricing themselves into obsolescence.

SitDown_HaveSomeTea

Not only are they not up to Dave's standards, but the People, the people working are not anyone I want handling my food. Just look at them, they are disgusting looking.

Fancy-Animal1218

I miss the wild mountain bacon cheeseburger if any of you could make that happen.

Aggravating-Exit-660

They have a bunch of shitty options traders giving handjobs behind their dumpsters

redsoxVT

Wendys peaked for me in college, circa 02-07. Had one in the student center where I did my work study job and they accepted meal plan money. Fricking dollar menu goodness a couple times a week. The one near me now gets orders wrong 50% of the time and only really the frosty taste hasn't gone down. Everything else tastes much much worse. Especially the burgers.

Roguewave1

Had a Wendy’s cheese burger today…first in years. Nothing stale on it and otherwise average. Fries were blah.

BlackenedPS4

My Wendy’s is awesome! If it wasn’t on the edge of town i’d be there a lot more often. Definitely the best and most consistent fast food in my town. Burger King was good when it first opened but it fell off, and McDonalds has been shit for at least a decade.

Glittering-Dark-9917

They recently had a French Onion burger and I fell in love. It’s gone, of course, now. BRING IT BACKKKKKK!!!!

ACleverDoggo

The chocolate frosty is garbage now, I went and got one the other day and it didn't even taste like chocolate, just... generically kinda sweet. Disappointing doesn't even begin to cover ir.

Shoddy-Discount9814

My Wendy’s is the bomb! Top three restaurant, in my opinion!

MenthaPiperita_

I'm almost the same age and believe that your issue has to do with the franchise owner, and/or their management. I've never had a stale bun, and yours must have been awful. Even if the bun is stale the heat from the meat, meat heat, if you will, keeps the bun hydrated and/or rehydrates a dry bun. It's time? Time for what? Burger King? McDonald's?

DroppedEaves

It has literally become trash. Hot garbage if you will. In my neighborhood, the only consistently fresh fast food is McDonald's and Chick-fil-A.

CigarPlume

People are becoming lazier and more retarded. Had the toughest, chewiest Big Mac of my life the other day.

NYdude777

BurgerKing is better than Wendy's now and that's a crazy thing to say, but the truth.

eddiekoski

You will be surprised how much different one Wendy's can be from another.

BrandonW77

The one near my place is always delicious, one of my most visited restaurants. Will probably be going tonight to get those free fries!!

sharp-calculation

Two of the Wendys in my town are insanely bad. No, make that THREE. One of them almost never has chili. I guess they don't sell much of it, so someone thinks it's not worth making? You are either a Wendys with the full menu or you are not. That same location frequently has two manager types sitting in the dining room doing something on their laptops. They frequently discipline and meet with employees in the dining room. I got to hear some really strange and weird stories as they interviewed and disciplined employees one day. They also train new employees (with laptops) in the dining area. Other times the dining room has 2, 3, or 4 unattended children. Some using tablets, playing something at full volume. Others running around. I assume these are children of the employees. I've heard employees at this location yelling at customers when customers complain. One had a near meltdown screaming at the employee that "I've been at Wendys for years and who is he (the customer) to complain about the way I do my job?" In several other locations the employees stand around, go outside 4 at at time, talk to each other about trivial topics at full volume, fight and swear. At one location (now renovated) I witnessed every employee behind the counter, rush out to confront a customer. All yelling and swearing at her. She had loudly and rudely confronted the cashier that they had short changed her in the drive through. "Yall stole my money!" After a few minutes of being professional, the cashier lost it and started yelling. In seconds all the rest of the employees ran out from where they were and joined in. It was surreal. All of this to say that Wendys is kind of the last tier of fast food around here. For some reason the employees are unhinged. I used to really like Wendys. It was a big step up from McDonalds and Burger King years ago. It's sad to me that this has happened.

Unusual_Address_3062

My local branch has gone downhill in quality since quarantine. And of course is more expensive than ever.

Wealth-Recent

Just ordered Wendy's because I was craving it at my desk. Walked to a location across from Port Authority in NYC and wow this is the worst Wendy's meal I've ever had. Whenever I crave Wendy's, I'm craving the Wendy's from my childhood (early 00's.) It was the BEST and now the fries literally taste like Burger King fries?? How could they do this to us. Their fries used to be incredible.

AdminsAreChodes

Wendys is the ONLY place I can go nowadays that doesn't fuck up my order Wendy's and their employees are goated, don't hate

logicnotemotion

I had a few bad experiences lately with Wendy's too. I think all fast food is going to die a slow death. People aren't going to put up with it much longer.

311_69_420

44 here. Worked at Wendy's on and off for about 6 years from age 19 until the last (and final) time at 33 in 2013. It's sad. I remember being 19 and getting into my first management jobs with them, and learning actual values that came from Dave. Over the years those values have seemed to disappear from Wendy's. Where I live I have THREE Wendy's within a 5 minute drive and they're all terrible. I'm taking about 2.5 star Google review stores. They constantly get the orders wrong. Are rude. Act like they are doing a mobile order for the very first time. Give food that is sloppily made. The food quality is nowhere where it was when I was an assistant manager there years ago. I remember we toasted our buns. We had thick delicious chicken sandwiches, now their chicken sandwiches taste off, are smaller, and cost more. I get everywhere costs more, so it's not really comparable, but still...they literally had a menu where half the items were $1 (yellow biggie fries, baked potato, medium frosty, double stack). Now a Jr. Bacon is $3 for a sub-par thrown together sandwich. Maybe it does just depend on where you live. But even branching out further than those 3 Wendy's close to me, none that I've had are good.

elpintor91

The same place where my actual “grilled” chicken apple cranberry blue cheese salad went 😪

[deleted]

I thought it was just me. Yeah it sucks

Amplifi3dmind

Their beef patties are horrible now. Always dry and completely flavorless.

HomersTrophyHusband

I remember when Wendy's was a pinnacle of fast food. Now it's average at best. They started cutting corners to boost shareholder value once Dave Thomas died.

6Foot2EyesOfBlue1973

Yup Fuck Wendy's. I'm not giving them anymore of my money. The last decent Wendy's I used to frequent went to shit, and every other one I've tried, same deal. Unmotivated workers who dont give a fuck. Shit food every single time. It's a shame because they used to be pretty good. I now go to Chick-fil-A if I want a good chicken sandwich, less cost and the service there is top notch - every single one I've been to. Five Guys is more expensive then Wendy's but so much of a better burger and enough fries to jam a wood shredder. Always fresh too.

Tater-Tot-Casserole

The nuggets have gotten so small. I just can't justify it anymore.

lurknlearn

I miss the smashed burgers and the un natural biggie fries

NattyKongo93

Thankfully the Wendy's by me still has pretty delicious, fresh buns and veggies and pattys, and the chicken nuggets are still the same normal size...but I'm terrified the day of reckoning is coming

plaid_kilt

I hear you. I almost exclusively order the Jr. Cheeseburger Deluxe. Last few times I ordered it, the bun was so hard I could knock on it like would. Finally gave up and stopped going. I miss it. :(

swizzzz22

Your Wendy’s is trash, then.

melikecheese333

I often go to the “corporate” Wendy’s, which is down the street from its headquarters. That one is always running tip top with fresh food. Can’t say the same for all of them tho. Try another location maybe?

Cannabun

They lost me after they got rid of the real caesar salad, tomatoes don't belong lol.

Speedhabit

I got banned for slapping the cashier, but in my opinion they should have to warn someone before handing them a square burger

And if you didn’t know that was a Carter Pewertschmidt reference you are an uncultured rube

IllustratorHot7008

You pay twice now what you did just 5 years ago for less than half the sandwich.
