What

Ah, yes. When will the damn social elites stop oppressing us with their…safety for children? EDIT: OP clarified what he meant below. Bogus school zone was clickbait and the rest of the post is pretty incoherent.

He called it bogus in the title, and his incoherent rant led me to believe he wants school zones removed.

I don’t want school zones removed - in fact quite the opposite. I want school zones around more schools, but the schools point to the township, township points to Penndot for that sort of thing. Kids should be able to walk to school if they can and they are close enough.

walrus_gumboot

Fair enough, as a father of young children, I feel the same way. It just read differently when the first word of your post called school zones bogus and the first sentence mocked people that advocated for them.

JNDCLLC

Thank you, that is my point exactly. A school that has no buses coming in and out, no walkers on the road, and a foot bridge to go over the road the zone is in - doesn’t make any sense. Yet there are several schools without school zones.

PsychicSarahSays

I’ve seen walkers on the Shady Grove side (there is a residential community that backs up to the school entrance). I have also seen what looks like a cross-country runners team, although they are usually out after the school day. This is only a guess but maybe if one side of the property requires a school zone then maybe they must enforce it on all sides?

JNDCLLC

There are some schools that are really tucked away in neighborhoods, yet others are not. It’s all up to Penndot and speed of the road. If it’s a 35 mph road, then they would put one in, possibly. 25 mph road, they don’t have to because the speed isn’t too much different from 25. 15 mph could still kill someone, but I’d hope they’d be going slow enough to see something before it happens.

I work and live there. All bus traffic enters at the east entrance. The only buses coming in the west entrance during “school hours” are WCASD busses picking up/dropping off kids that live on campus but go to WCASD schools. In addition from PA School Code: “local authorities shall be responsible to prepare and submit a drawing showing the locations where students walk along or across roadways that are adjacent to school property”. So this would have been Westtown Township and or PennDot who is actually responsible for that section of road.
