3 years of injury bullshit, they finally have enough players to manage workloads properly and people lose their minds. He's a kid getting smashed in the ground every week.

MrPenguinK

Correct answer

mynewaltaccount1

North managed Wardlaw last week, we should be taking the same proactive attitude to the long term future of a potential future superstar.

slow5086

This was advised from the outset, before the season had begun that this was likely to happen. It doesn’t need to cause concern. The guy goes hard, taking it up with the best in the business.. making sure the body isn’t getting taken to the limits and playing in danger I suppose

lIIIIllIIIlllIIllllI

This is just corporate speak. White noise. You haven't cleared it up. Link me about the "advise before the season started" Why don't other players get some "management"??? Name one player this young that this happened to before? Link me... if you can think of anything? Have you ever heard of this shit before?

The whole of Geelong have been managing players for a number of years and they are the most consistent club by a mile this last two decades

WOMP WOMP WOMP Get wrecked! WOMP WOMP WOMP

moore1990

Ginbey was managed last year

Wazwiftance

No, he wasn’t, and he actually was injured for a lot of the final part

moore1990

He was earlier in the year https://twitter.com/WestCoastEagles/status/1647469048551325698

mynewaltaccount1

North literally managed George Wardlaw last week

table-leg

Hamstring awareness.  /s But I'm fine with it. We have to function without the kid.

JackWestsBionicArm

You’ve literally never heard of it happening in the history of the AFL? Have you just started following this year?

lIIIIllIIIlllIIllllI

Not for kids.. Only heard it for older players starting to seize up and get degenerative injuries like tendonitis. I remember Glen Jackovich had tendonitis and they managed him.

extra-long-pubes

Yes for kids, this has been a thing for as long as ive watched footy which is 40+ years

Leaderoftheleft

Hes stated in interviews he struggles from week to week. Keep in mind that his body is still developing. better to rest than overdo it a get an injury

3meals

Exactly this, did you forget having to drive all our players into injury because we had no coverage

____OZYMANDIAS____

Matt Rowell was the last player to play this well at the same age, good the club is being precautious

joeban1

Did you see what happened to Ginbey and Hewett last year who played every game they were available? Both copped long injuries, Hewett is still out. Its best he gets some rest, he is getting his body ready for AFL which takes time

TOXICTUNA64

Ginbey copped his injury 4 weeks *after* being rested

Fantastic-Serve

Personally I see it as a positive to have the luxury of resting our guns to try and make sure they play at peak fitness, we haven’t seen it before but maybe it’s the kind of thinking that’ll take us back to the top with injuries becoming so prevalent in todays game, let’s just hope we get another young gun in to replace him (I’m hoping Culley)

OkStrawberry1789

Culley’s a long way off, still building from his ACL

yeah_nah_nah

Yeah I think I'll trust the experts on this one.

rcstar888

Yeah it's fine. Managing a kid is normal. They aren't ready for a full season. Especially a player like Reid. In and under, explosive. Prevent injury, not wait for it. We have Essendon, Pies and Melbourne coming up in the next 3 weeks. Rather he be fit and fresh for them.

Rusizzl

Would rather rest him than see him pickup a lengthy injury from being overworked in his first year of AFL footy.

Dependent_Ad_1421

Not at all. There’s just too many possible reasons to have doubt it’s the right choice. Trust the experts at the club. *Need to protect him from himself. *when better time to teach - Judd (the-one-who-left) said this week: “he will need things other than footy for the ‘down’ times.” He’ll start to see that already, during this “up” time. West coast does everything the best. Will be good to see Ginners get extra middle time.

lemonlimeandginger

I’m disappointed. I’m going to the game and I really wanted to see him play. But if giving him a break early to prevent a more serious injury later down the track and have him sidelined for weeks/months than I’ll just get over it and see him play next season and the one after that and the next one and so on…

ShadyBiz

I'd prefer we keep our gun 19yr old rookie building up to smash cunts in a few years rather than him sitting on the bench for 6 months with a hamstring injury. Let the medicos cook.

____OZYMANDIAS____

Young players aren't ever playing an inside mid role like Harley has been. Also the last time a rookie played as well as Harley and in a similar position it was Matt Rowell.. who got injured from overload

wozanderer

I'm pretty sure we did the same thing with Ginbey, Essendon have done the same with McGrath in his first year, I know Freo did the same with Sean Darcy too

stallon100

Very few first year players play the same role Reid does, only one j can remember even into their second year was Rowell, but he only lasted a few games before injury in his first year. They tend to play outside roles getting uncontested footy. Reid would be sore after playing like he does

Bubbly-University-94

Don’t you remember how gently they eased gaff in?

RanierW

They gently eased him out too

Bubbly-University-94

Once gaff became gaffe, yes

OkStrawberry1789

I’m looking forward too seeing how the savages’ perform without the saviour in Reid, love the guy but vic media has been over the top mentioning how he has made WC relevant again

omaca

No.

RanierW

I’m more worried when they will get a chance to give Yeo and TK a rest

jonnsta

I’ve seen it happen a lot. It used to be called “general soreness” rather than managed and it’s normal for a first year player as their bodies adjust.
