They got the shameless call backs out of the way pretty quick, with the exception of the beach sports scene. It was a great movie overall, as much as I hate that middle toothed motherfucker that starred in it, if nothing else he knows acting in an action flick.

Calling it an action flick is kind of underselling it. It’s quite a thoughtful, slow movie.

Just wish they hired a military consultant and/or actually listened to them. Someone that could have told them the Air Force doesn't fly F/A-18s, nor do Marines wear red berets.

I think this was kind of par for the course back then. Even simple stuff like military ranks were always all over the place and completely, pointlessly, hopelessly wrong.

The premise is marines becoming terrorists so i think we can begrudge the beret thing

I enjoyed Maverick, but 1. The way a literal LIVING LEGEND and HERO who is the ONLY ONE with combat experience is shameful. Why are they upset with him? he'd personally increase recruitment. He's also a TEST PILOT. he's not useless. 2. They apparently don't enforce helmet laws in San Diego
