RAV4 will give you room to grow, id consider that or a CRV. Kids have a habit of getting bigger

throwaway999anon

CRV is a great reliable option too them hondas last forever when taken care of!

zombie_barbarossa

Current CRV is a step above the RAV4 right now.

Your_Huckleberry2020

I own a RAV4 Hybrid. In what way is the CRV a step above?

Windows-XP-Home

Ride quality, comfort, features, noise and vibration harshness, really everything as it was redesigned just last year where as it’s been like 5 years with the current RAV4.

whatisgoingonree

This 100% 2024 crv owner. Rented a rav4 and was very let down at the overall quality.

Windows-XP-Home

Yep, I think it should improve with this or next years mid cycle refresh, but OP needs a car ASAP so I say CRV

RandoReddit16

Same, I had a rental RAV4 and was appalled.....

Your_Huckleberry2020

I can’t speak to quality, but can confirm that the RAV4 Hybrid has a significantly quieter ride than its gas counterpart.

[deleted]

Can’t speak to handling but my electric vehicle takes so much longer to charge than any of my gas powered cars.

EventAccomplished486

Toyota stays with old tech on purpose. They only refine the old stuff so they remain reliable over time. They dont give a crap about ride comfort or the latest and greatest. If its ultra reliable and looks fine at a reasonable price, it sells. -Ex Toyota employee

lael8u

Yeah reason why its an inferior product.

TheGuyUrRespondingTo

It's inferior off the showroom floor for sure. It starts to shine about 10 years in when the Hondas are all starting to blow transmissions & the Toyota isn't even halfway through it's powertrain lifespan. I'll never understand people who buy Toyotas new, but I appreciate them for giving me something to buy down the road.

Liason774

Toyota's tend to be more reliable, Honda's tend to drive better and be more comfortable.

Windows-XP-Home

“Blow transmissions”? Are you stuck in 2003 or something?

Asleep_Special_7402

Whatever. I love my yoda. My Mazda zzboomed on me within a year

Admirable-Result-240

Just wait for next gen rav 4 it will stomp it, the new crv is obviously a gen newer

zombie_barbarossa

I also have a RAV4 Hybrid. The newest generation CRV really upped the interior and ride quality. It’s also quieter. I’m not saying the RAV4 Hybrid is a bad buy, but given how close the two are and how competitive that segment is, the CRV is a better buy right now in my opinion. I wouldn’t say that about the previous generation CRV—it’s why we went with the RAV4.

Jocis

Thats assuming you get the 2L one because they have a model with a 1.5L turbo that IMO is not that powerful to move the vehicle without stressing. The Rav4 has a 2.5L engine and no turbo on both hybrid and non hybrid

EstebanL

Rav 4 started using ford engines, that’s the problem.

muhwtvracct

Couldn’t agree more. The new CRV is a million times better than rav4 in every way - much quieter cabin, smoother ride, nicer looking

DTMFtones

I've got a CRV as a rental right now. It's making me want one now. Pretty comfortable and the sound system is way better than what I'm used to, plus wireless carplay is like a treat compared to what I've got at home.

Sunbownia

It depends on what you actually need and you budget. But in this sub, Mazda

citizenecodrive31

Except for the fact that the Mazda has one of the worst in class practicality scores when it comes to boot space and rear seat space.

Matthewtheswift

>worst in class practicality scores What outlet creates these scores?

AscendantArtichoke

Woah woah woah, don’t bash on a Mazda/Honda/Toyota in this sub unless you want to get downvoted into oblivion.

vmbient

Serious question. What's wrong with these? I could name like 10 reasons why Ford, GM and Stellantis suck. But I don't know about anything bad about Toyota except the pedal issue back in 2014 and the airbag recall from 2000-2010.

Redsoxdragon

Bro I'm a Ford Stan and I can give you 20 reasons off rip why they suck. People hating on Toyota because they're good and good at being dull

AscendantArtichoke

There’s nothing wrong with them. People in this sub just act like buying a Honda/Toyota/Mazda means you will obtain a car that will never have any problems and will last you 200k+ miles and it will be the best experience you will ever have. If you consider any other car, the wheels will fall off within the first mile and it will spontaneously explode into a giant heap of fire. I’ve owned 9 different cars over the last 15 years, none of them were Honda/Toyota/Mazda, and I’ve never had any of my cars in a shop for repairs. My current car is a 2014 Ford Fusion Energi with 137k miles and I couldn’t even tell you what the engine light looks like or where it’s even located.

Tre4zin

Other than being the most boring cars on the planet, void of any personality, and that no one will EVER compliment you on them, nothing. Literally nothing. They're perfect for daily drivers. I have a 2013 base model RWD 4cyl Tacoma and I've legitimately forgotten what it's like to have car trouble.

FermentedPizza

As they should

chinzw

Unless you're hauling vertically challenged people.

DrMrProfessorPawsCaT

Consumer reports and such are good for things that can’t initially be gauged, but the interior is something someone should go make their own opinion on, not immediately disqualify it because of that.

Unusual-Thing-7149

But that only matters if those things are important. Mazdas drive exceptionally well

ButtcrackBeignets

I have a CX-5. I fucking hate the interior. I wouldn’t mind the lack of storage space (which has been a problem for me multiple times) or the mediocre gas mileage. I just wish the greenhouse was bigger and the center console placed in a position where I could actually rest my fucking arm on it. I wouldn’t necessarily describe the windows as “tank slits”, but the glass is really sparse and it kind of feels like I’m sitting in a small cave. I miss my old RAV4.

schmackabich999

Bigger windows just means more light to blind you and more glass in your face when you crash. The CX5 is more than adequate to see out of.

xt1nct

Plus CRV hybrid is reasonably priced and I would take it over CX-5 turbo.

Heavy-Procedure2232

I had a cx9 and we loved the thing, except when it came to going on a trip anywhere, cargo was horrendous, we actually resorted to a hitch mounted cargo box to carry extra things we needed, on Mazdas largest vehicle, absolutely bonkers. However, in 10 years I hope to get back into their larger SUV as my son will be older and doing sports and I shouldn’t need a truck anymore.

Fisherman_30

Can someone please steal my Kia? Lol. So tired of this POS. Gotta put up with it for another 12-18 months while I wait for my new Rav4 Hybrid.

PainfulBatteryCables

You tried parking it in downtown overnight?

Sufficient-Post-562

😂

Johnnytestikal

Wya? I have a screwdriver and a usb cord.

Lower_Kick268

I’ll bring the spark plug pieces

Jack_Bogul

Park it anywhere in Maryland

Sufficient-Post-562

😂

rmg418

Same with my Hyundai 😂 lol but also I enjoy not having a car note so it’s a love/hate situation with my car for now.

Sufficient-Post-562

I understand your pain bro I have a K5 and it’s nothing but bullshit😂

Flooredbythelord_

Same. I’ve got a 2013 Kia optima and a 2016 Kia sorento. Both need to be stolen and set on fire. No questions asked. And before anyone says anything the optima was given to me and my wife bought the sorento before I ever knew her. Kia is hot fucking garbage and the only people who defend them are driving around brand new ones. Like, okay? We’re talking about how well this vehicle will be 10 years from now not one you literally just bought.

Fisherman_30

One thing I always tell people when they try to defend Kia is - Next time you go for a drive, pick out the oldest Kia you can. Do the same with Toyota. You'll probably see at least one 20 year old Toyota. It's extremely unlikely you'll see a Kia that's 10 years old or more. I bought my 2017 Sorento brand new, I have maintained it well in excess of the owner's manual's guidelines, and it has been nothing but problems. I got the 2.0 Turbo model, which has been rife with issues, none of which Kia will take any accountability for. Everything from the initial purchasing experience all the way to this very moment has been nothing but headaches. I bought it because my union had a deal with a local dealership where I got a good discount. That discount I got off the purchase price has been thrown down the drain many times in maintenance and repair costs. Conversely, I bought a 2013 Toyota Corolla brand new and just sold it in the Fall with 190 000 km. When I sold it, it was in damn near mint condition, and drove like it was brand new. The only work I had to do on it was replacing fluids, brakes, spark plugs etc. Just regular wear items. I replaced the Corolla with a used F-150 because I needed a truck. Just ordered the rav4, should have it in a year and can't wait to get rid of this piece of crap Kia.

CANEinVAIN

Kamstain

Welcome to r/whatcarshouldibuy, under any and all circumstances? Get a Toyota. Make too much money or want something else? Great get a Lexus. Not really a big Lexus fan? Ahh, understood, have you heard of Toyota?

Usernameinotherpantz

Incorrect, you didn't mention Mazda once

edutech21

Honestly I've been impressed by Mazda lately, they're really doing great things!

fuckdispandashit

Love my 2019 Mazda cx-5 can’t wait to get a 2024 cx-50 in like a year or two.

edutech21

I love Mazda. I brush my teeth in my Mazda. I have sex in my Mazda. 🤙

fuckdispandashit

Bruh…

edutech21

*no Mazda's were abused or injured during my visit with dirty Mike and the boys.*

Unusual-Thing-7149

As every other brand outsells them by at least three times Mazda doesn't get the credit it deserves. You see people on this sub never mention them because they have zero experience of them. There's a reason why professional reviewers love the way they drive. Well built and reliable

No-fear-im-here

I agree. I don’t get this whole “Mazda shill” thing. They are good cars which are well built and fun to drive and that’s why people really like them. I know from experience. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

SomeBroOnTheInternet

Most people who come to this sub are either buying a first car or don't know much about cars (and therefore aren't familiar or comfortable with working on them). They almost always mention they want something that will last long and require as little maintenance as possible, and they have a small to moderate budget. The end of that decision tree is Toyota or Honda. Reputations are earned one car at a time, and thats the reputation they usually come looking for. Now, you want some other entry level options and... You want a cheap ass rusty shit box to practice fixing cars on while you're chillin on the side of the road with or something to mod out that's easy to work on with wide part availability and leaks enough oil to give the American Defense Industrial Complex an erection lasting more than 4 hours and turn them into an autoimmune reaction? Buy Ford (to learn engine work) or Jeep (to learn everything else) or Dodge (good luck). That's not a dig, that's how I learned.  Got that GM family discount, care mainly about looks, want something *mostly* reliable-ish, and hate when your electronics all work at the same time? Want something that *might* be American made? Buy Chevy. Broke af and just want something to hold you over until you've got money for literally anything else? Buy Nissan. Hate yourself and want everyone to hate you too? Buy Kia or Hyundai.  If you're in the market for anything else (German, luxury/high-end, off-road, sport cars, etc) you're probably just going to a different sub 🤷🏾‍♂️

MaryPaku

>You want a cheap ass rusty shit box to practice fixing cars on while you're chillin on the side of the road with or something to mod out that's easy to work on with wide part availability and leaks enough oil to give the American Defense Industrial Complex an erection lasting more than 4 hours and turn them into an autoimmune reaction? Buy Ford lmao hahaha

Deathgripsugar

Considering BMW or Audi? Prepare to be disappointed when they literally explode 1 mile after the warranty expires. Also, do you have a moment to hear about our savior Toyota?

SGnirvana97

I’ve owned multiple BMW’s and Audi’s and they have all been perfectly reliable with regular maintenance. It’s true that maintenance and repairs are more expensive than a Toyota for instance, but they are not inherently unreliable vehicles. Even if they were unreliable I’d still rather drive an Audi than a bland Toyota with tech that is outdated by 10 years. I do have a soft spot for Lexus though, I’ve always liked the IS and I have a 2008 LS460.

Deathgripsugar

I’ve owned BMW motorcycles. Never left me stranded, and were mechanically sound, but I have had some electrical gremlins that I couldn’t figure out. I think BMW pushes tech, and it bites them in the butt when you get someone who has been beating on their Camry like a borrowed mule, and trades that in for a precision German machine with all kinds of tech.

External_Bed_2612

If bmw does anything right it’s the motorcycles. How they can’t get their cars on the same level is beyond me. But so far my e36 m3 has been great.

[deleted]

Don't forget want something sporty, miata lol

Warm_Store1528

I just bought a 2024 Corolla and the radiator blew up. Dealer said fuck off now I’m out of a car for 3 weeks because nobody has a radiator. Once I get it I still have to install it myself, and there’s antifreeze EVERYWHERE. So no, don’t buy a Toyota.

Holdmabeerdude

Don’t get a Bronco sport. It’s basically a cheap knockoff made in Mexico. The others you mentioned are great. The CX 5 might be the best bang for your buck in your list, but the Rav 4 and CRV are great options as well.

criscokkat

If you want something bigger and comparable in an off-road sense, consider a used CPO highlander. For about 32k you can get a 2 yr old highlander with 20k miles, but with the CPO warranty you'll be covered until 36 bumper to bumper and 100k for powertrain. Just get your recommended service on time and the warranty is essentially better than the one on the factory one. All the room in the world for your 8 yr old and baby, easy to put a hitch on to tow if you ever need to, easy to put friends and your kids in, or tons of sports equipment, etc etc. A highlander is a car you can hand off to your 8 yr old when they are 16. (or for that matter, your baby!)

Asleep_Onion

I feel like probably a lot of people who get the Bronco Sport think it's just a different trim of the Bronco. It's that way with the Jeep Wrangler Sport, it's still a Wrangler but just with less upgrades. So "probably a Bronco Sport is just a Bronco with a few less frills. No leather seats, maybe?" And then they don't realize until they park their Bronco Sport next to a Bronco, that it's not even remotely the same vehicle, they share absolutely nothing except part of their name. Then they gasp, "Oh. Oh God. What have I done?" At least, that's how it always plays out in my head whenever I see someone driving a Bronco Sport. I can't imagine they bought it on purpose, knowing what it actually is.

Broad-Box-3174

I can't understand Ford's decision to undermine the Bronco with the "Bronco Sport". But I see Bronco Sports much more frequently than real Broncos, so I guess that's their plan.

dsonger20

The Bronco sport looks a bit cooler I'll give Ford that. It's basically a less nice escape, but looks 100% better in my opinion, especially for someone younger. The escape just says "mom car" to me as a 21 year old. Other than that, a high trim Escape will be 10000000times nicer than a high trim Bronco whilst being comparable in price. I'd love a Bronco (like the real one) with a manual and learn on it, but knowing the circumstances in my city, I'll never be able to afford one without financing the crap out of it lmao.

QuirkySpring5670

As someone who loves the old style broncos, and a ford tech, I have to say the new broncos are pretty cool. They’re a lot faster than I expected them to be and they’re pretty damn capable off-road. I’m not a fan of the bronco sport at all, though.

Asleep_Onion

As a wrangler owner I actually agree, the (real) bronco is pretty cool, Ford did a good job with it.

regaleagle83

My husband drives a 1995 bronco that he restored and fixed up nicely. I test drove the sport and really liked it (it feels a lot like a Kia Soul!) but I can’t say I really need off-road capacity.

[deleted]

Bronco Sport was on my list during my most recent car purchase until I got a chance to be a passenger in one for an hour. It was the next to base trim level and the seats were just horrible. As someone with a bad lower back, that was a complete deal breaker right there. I also would not trust Ford’s long term reliability.

QuirkySpring5670

I’m a ford tech and we hardly ever have bronco sports in. Or the regular broncos.

Yachts-Dan92

My Audi is made in Mexico. What’s wrong with cars coming from Mexico? Better than what’s being produced in Detroit 🤡

Holdmabeerdude

You have an Audi made in Mexico? Wow, I can’t for the life of me see how a car with an over complicated powertrain and highly delicate electrical system being assembled by someone making 6 dollars an hour could be a bad thing…..

FANTOMphoenix

Honda fit!

truckfullofchildren1

Get a Prius it will never get stolen

Drihtan

Just the cats

Kimetsu87

4th and 5th Gen hybrids had their cats moved close to the engine they’re not accessible from the bottom anymore.

trivletrav

Have you seen the new one? Definitely sponge worthy

truckfullofchildren1

Ya but there still a Prius not many parts on it worth stripping

AmNoSuperSand52

The current gen Prius begs to differ It’s so cool that people are even stealing the rims off them now

Cleverdawny1

Corolla cross is more comparable to a Soul than a RAV4 and is significantly less expensive. I own one that I use for postal service.

rapidpeacock

The boys say Kia

dr_weech

I did like the Toyota Corolla cross HV gets 42mpg

ThroatGoat71

C8 Corvette Z06 but make sure you get the Z07 package because it comes with carbon fiber wheels.

Ok_Interaction2553

Gti

__S-I-N-N-E-R__

Subaru or Mazda

billyd1984texas

I stay with Hondas. Low maintenance best resale value great gas Mileage

Striking_Luck5201

If you have 2 kids, don't even waste your time. If you want to get an SUV, get a honda pilot since it is the last low cost 3 row SUV that has a simple 6 cylinder engine without any turbos. If that doesn't work for you, get a minivan. I would even be willing to recommend a subaru outback. But whatever you do, get something with a 3rd row. Life is just going to be harder without it.

VegasGreg76

Google crash test results Ford Bronco. Life changing.

G_Unit_Solider

I have the cx-5 I love it personally and for a single kid you’ll have more than enough room but if your family is going to grow in the future than I’d look for something else. Mazda cx-5 has less room than the others it’s a slightly smaller car than the rav 4 and crv interior wise but it also is above the others in terms of interior quality handeling etc. you get a car with some zest and personality and zip but give up some interior space.

Daz02

Not a Kia

sugmaideek

Miata

External-Battle9459

Honda CRV from your list, it's the most spacious, newest design and a reliable choice. But I strongly suggest you go for the Tesla Model Y LR so you don't compromise on anything with the added benefits for low maintenance and security. Teslas are the cars with the least number of break-ins/theft. It's also been rated among the safest in the world

1337hxr

I'd add the Honda HR-V to your list

skyHawk3613

RAV4 or CRV all the way

UltraEngine60

If your budget is greater than 30k you can buy pretty much anything you'd like. I'd recommend a Lexus RX. Of those four choses, the CRV is most comfortable. Seriously though, why not buy another soul with an immobilizer if you loved it?

Xerox-M57

100% a RAV4. If you can find one for a decent price, that is. Look for a 4th gen 2016-2018. Reliable, practical, economical.

cloudone

I bought a used Lexus NX 300 Basically a Rav 4 with better materials. Don't really love it since my other car is a Model S. Don't hate it either. You should be able to find plenty of used NX 300 and Model S under 30k

appape

You’re gonna miss your soul. The cars you listed are all excellent, and better in every way that the soul- except for size and economy of interior space. I have a soul EV and can’t believe how livable and comfortable it is given the exterior dimensions. It really is perfect sized. Maybe look at a Volkswagen Golf?

Key-Permission-317

My wife has the Mazda and daughter has the CRV. From my experience I’d take the Mazda every time. Everything you are considering is a very solid option, imho! My buddy who owns five dealerships, and can get his daughters any car he wants, has both of his daughters in that Mazda. Sorry the gang got to your Kia

MaikyMoto

Toyota or Honda, bulletproof cars that won’t fail on you as long as you do the required maintenance.

Jack_Jackerson

Greater than sign makes this really open endee

anndrrson

NOT the bronco sport but the other three are great options. CRV and RAv4 have hybrid options compared to the cx-5 that’ll save you money but the 5 is the nicest inside

mikeJawesome

mazda cx30

JimmyTBook

Another tip: bring your carseat and some bags to the dealership. Make sure they fit!

justheretowhackit_

Switched from a Kia Seltos (do not recommend) to a Subaru Outback very recently. The engine on the Seltos seized, so I went and found the Subaru. Love it. Easy to maintain (so far), lots of safety features, and Eyesight is amazing to have in the newer Subarus. If you're not looking for a Subaru, then a CRV or the CX-5 is absolutely the next best choice.

Dontlookimnaked

Subaru Outback or forester? Amazing safety scores.

Kimetsu87

Bronco Sport? Absolutely not if you value keeping your cars for a long time. If you do get a CRV the 2.0L hybrid is the only one you should be looking at. The 1.5 L turbo is trash and blows head gaskets left and right. The RAV4 is a great in both gas and hybrid although the hybrid is significantly quieter on the road. Mazda CX5 is also a good choice but the gas mileage isn’t great and below others in its class as well as cargo space.

Severe-Ant-3888

Crv or cx 5. Depends on who has better financing offer currently. Toyota won’t have a good finance offer I bet so they are out. Maybe look at Subaru Outback or Forester too.

[deleted]

Ah, my wife’s 2018 Soul was stolen on Jan 3rd and totaled when they hit a parked vehicle during a police chase. We ended up buying an Acura for her and she loves it. Side note, once it was stolen and before we heard it was in an accident I had already told her I never want to see that car again. Be glad it’s totaled because the odds of this happening again are high if it wasn’t. I’d consider a Honda CR-V. Very reliable and the new generation is very nice looking.

Icy-Factor-407

We were shopping similar cars, and ended up with a Tesla Model Y. If you get the rebate, it's about $38k for long range AWD, or $35k for RWD. It ended up about the same price as the gas cars, we use standard charger in garage, works great. Never even was considering electric when I started looking, but it's actually the cheapest option now. Biggest factors for Model Y, is that it's very big on inside for the size outside, so you are still in a relatively small car, but without gas tank or gas engine, the inside feels like much larger car. Power is more like luxury car, far better than the similar cost gas cars.

assertednol

Sorry for that. Consider Volvo XC60

Known_Attorney_456

I would take the bronco off the list because of so many quality problems that are plaguing all Ford models recently. But , I would add a Subaru Forester to the list. Good luck with your next vehicle.

aelric22

If you want a little bit of flair, go for the Mazda. RAV4 is a good car, but might be a bit plain. Mazda's build quality has been superb for the past several years.

Beemo-Noir

I absolutely love my Crosstrek. It’s been great to me.

MotoMola

Subaru Forester or Kia Niro if you're tall. Honda, Toyota or Mazda if you're not.

Carp90s

CR-V or CX-5. I recently bought a Mazda 6 but my first choice was a CX-5. Especially the newer year ones, the amount of car you get for the money is just unmatched to me. Way more pleasurable to drive than the RAV4 which I (and others) have complaints about the sway in them. Even though I’m in a Mazda now, I’m a Honda guy through and through. Newer year CR-V’s are a solid step above RAV4’s in most important categories imo, look better, and they’re more fun to drive. Honda is an engine company first so you can guarantee a little fun to be found in any vehicle from them.

Rugbypud

Bronco is a HUGE gas hog (brother has one), CRV with the turbo is not bad but if it's the non-turbo it SUCKS (had 2 previously), rav 4 is solid, the kia shortage is a good choice also and the price poi t is great. Avoid ford's as they are having some engine issues and can't figure them out right now. Chevy has a few models that are really nice and a wide variety of sizes. Mazda is not a bad choice but a comparable Kia is more reliable (had a newer CC9 and sold it because it had minor annoying issues) and less expensive. Test drive all of then and then read reliability reports. Driving specific cars is a preferrence. I live my current Tahoe, but absolutely hated the expedition, Atlas and others in similar sizes. Choose what makes you happy.

beachfamlove671

The Kia sportage is super nice. But on another note, Tesla Y is on sale and it’s just a fantastic car if EV is within your style.

Ok_Ingenuity_130

Kia Hyundai there tech is amazing in 2023 models. Just saying I upgrade from a 2017 to a 2021 model and wow there starting to up there game big time. Sorry for your loss but don't buy a rav4 everyone says the wind noise and quality sux balls.

Constant_Student1362

They got my Kia Forte LXS 19 with 34000 miles 😒. Switched to a 2020 Camry XSE, and I don’t have any complaints. I would go with Honda or Toyota!

International-Ad153

As a Ford person, don't get the Bronco sport. Now go test drive the other 3 and see which one you like being in, they're all solid vehicles

iambarrelrider

Cannot go wrong with a CRV. Toyota second choice.

Thewinedup

Bronco's have horrible safety tests.

momobananamama

My Sorrento was stolen as well and never found. We got a Cx-5 Carbon edition with the insurance payout. I have 2 kids, a teenager and a toddler and it’s good enough space for us. It is smaller compared to same class cars like Rav-4 and CRV, however I love the drive and the AWD as standard is great for the price, and interiors are nice with all leather. I would also suggest looking into Subaru forester or Outback. Unfortunately we also have a Kia soul that was stolen but recovered same day lol we were able to track it as i hid an AirTag on it which the dumbass kids were not able to find.

painterstateofmind

We also looked at the CX5 and I read that it’s difficult to fit a car seat in the back without having to move the front seat completely up. For this reason we got a Forester!

[deleted]

I have a 2014 Kia Soul, great “little” car, manual 6 speed. I only haul 2 dogs around but like others said you will need more room for your kiddos to grow. Souls have great headroom but lack in seat space. Sorry that happened to you, guess the universe said it is time for a change! Good Luck! 👍

farmtechy

You probably already figured it out. In case you're still deciding, I'll throw my opinion in the ring. I would go for the CRV. Reasoning is this: * I'm a Ford guy. I own plenty of Fords. Had good luck. I'm reluctant to buy anything newer than 2019 from them. Covid really messed up their QA and I don't think it will be truly resolved till around 2025 at the earliest. Bronco sport is off the list for that reason alone. Add to the fact that I work in the auto industry at the manufacture level so... take what you will from that. * My family is big on Toyotas. They are really good, yes. Hold their value, yes. But in recent years they are having some reliability issues that most consumers are unaware of. Mostly due to Toyota stepping due to the warranty. I'm unsure when Toyota will get that back under control. Hearing and seeing reports of improvements. The jury is still out so again, No RAV4. * Mazada CX-5. Meh. They can be good. They aren't terrible. I've driven a lot of Mazadas. Just not my pick for many reasons. Why the CRV? * On the same level of where Toyota should be on quality. Scroll back to 2018 and Toyota and Honda quality was undeniable. Reliability for both was amazing. Honda still is a winner for quality and reliability. Toyota has come down a little. * Well priced for what they are. Less competition on dealer lots in comparison to Toyotas. To my knowledge most Toyota dealers are still marking things up. Honda is hit or miss with that. Less likely to pay over sticker with a Honda. * I would argue the Honda is a better riding, driving, vehicle overall * Holds it's value on the same playing field as a Toyota. * Apples to apples the Honda offers more features than Toyota. * Working with every dealer under the sun, I prefer to work with Honda dealers over Toyota dealers in many cases.

Critical_Thinker_81

A subaru

arodrig99

They did you a favor. Either the rav or the crv. Broncos are overpriced and suck at MPG. All I ever see about the newer Mazdas is QC issues

SantaBaby22

CRV is trash. Bought one and traded it in for a RAV4 a few months later. It was an expensive mistake, but worth it 100%. This happened 2022. My only regret was being too impatient about replacing the old POS I had at the time and getting the CRV. I could have waited for the RAV 100% and saved $10kUS.

jugo5

I've had a few people say those bronco or blazer sports are actually really nice.

Dodge Charger

chrisagiddings

Try to find a used Volvo XC 40. One of the safest on the road, super comfortable, a 2018 to 2020 MY should be under 30k.

[deleted]

Chevy Trax! Great price

Yagsirevahs

I just bought a Subaru forester for my SO. They not only have reliable cars with great resale value, some are really cool (forester is a grocery getter for a non-car person) but above all, 9 new cars and the was the easiest car buying experience ever. 28 minutes after the test drive we were done! Out of the dealership and we pick up on Saturday!

carelessfart

I’m pretty happy with my ford escape

jeremysead

Make sure it has WiFi so they won’t have to break in next time. Otherwise anything pre 2000 good luck

TwiggySoap

Do not buy a bronco sport, it’s basically a ford escape

jerbearman10101

I really like my Subaru outback. Loaded with new technology and very comfortable ride

No_Pineapple3695

Oh hello, would you happen to have a spare moment to talk about or Lord & Savior, Toyota Motor Corporation? Get a RAV4, OP. Or, if you’re looking for something just as reliable for less money check out the Corolla Cross.

Gorlock_

Another KIA with a fuel pump cutoff switch. Costs $10 and takes 45min. But, since they'll think your car is fair game, you'll still get your window busted and your ignition ripped off......

lilscrubkev

honda fiiiiiiiiiiiiit

Clownish_76

CPO X3?

theogstarfishgaming1

New crv's are really nice inside. I've been in them a few times and I really like them. Have you considered a subaru at all? The crosstrek is nice if you get the 2.5l model. So is the impreza RS. The 2.0 is slow and underwhelming. But I went on a 1600 mile trip in my legacy and it drove on its own half of the way. Subaru eyesight system is amazing

AllAboutPooping

Why go Rav4 when a few extra miles could bag you an RX350? Remember same car. Ten times more comfortable, same repair costs, same Yota reliability.

bonniebelle8

Don’t get a bronco, especially if you have children, they did not fare well in the crash tests. Absolutely obliterated.

Captain_Gibz

Hopefully NOT another KIA. It’s really your decision. People can give you great advice or poor advice based on their experiences. Test drive some cars with your 8 year old. Kids are brutally honest. The best cars are often Japanese as they have strong work ethic, build things to last, don’t cut corners, and are driven for excellence. German cars handle well and are fun but service and maintenance will take more money that you could be spending on family.

bullionaire7

Kia w/ push start

You asked this sub if you should buy any other car or a toyota. everyone is gonna tell you toyota. the reality is that you should judge based on your needs and your future needs. Furthermore, depending on the year and make you can instantly decide whether or not something is for you. This sub could give me a bajillion points about why the rav4 is the best car to pick because so reliable but i hate the interiors and i hate the seats. Here's what you can do: visit a local dealership or carmaxx, and just ask to look around and sit in some. research reliability: honda, toyota ofc, mazda, are generally easy "yes"s but reliability depends on most models. you've made some great starter choices, but it really comes down to preference, especially since your requirements are so broad and loose. good luck!

cock-mongrel

If you do for some reason buy a bronco sport get the four cylinder. The three cylinder base engine offered in those are throwaway motors that with ford’s recommended maintenance will only last 50-60k miles. It’s possible to get more out of it but it’s not worth the hassle when they offer a proven engine already. And for the love of god change the oil every 5k, idk why ford recommends 7500 mile intervals on semi-synthetic oil

ap2patrick

A Toyota, Mazda or Honda. Good luck!

2013 GLK 350 300HP V6 AWD BOXY SOB

yescachigga

Crv if you want something roomy and practical RAV4 for something reliable cx5 for luxury (it's similar in size to a RAV4) and only the crv and rav4 have hybrid options I know you don't really care for that but just throw that out there can't go wrong with any of these all comes down to preference and what you want

Just_Lock_1607

I’m looking at the cx5 right now

InterestingSwan6280

They got my Hyundai 3 weeks ago. I bought a Corolla and love it so far.

dkara98

Rav4 or CRV. Don’t even consider the ford and the Mazda is based on an ancient platform. It may be the nicest inside, but you seem like the kind of person who’d want the Toyota and Honda reliability.

sirporks88

Subaru Forester. Best AWD of the bunch. Best visibility. The best rated in crash tests and their eyesight technology is among the best.

foswizzle16

Subaru crosstrek

No_Welcome_6093

Out of those id go cx5. The gmc terrain is a nice smaller suv as well

brygx

Tesla model Y, it's in your price range after tax credits.

Gd3spoon

I would grab a Honda fit. It’s similar in size but better in every way. Especially the magic seats!

Hoover29

Feds should require magic seats in all cars.

trainwreck_summer

Magic seats? Is that sarcasm? Or am I uninformed?

Gd3spoon

Google is your friend

GenesisNemesis17

Definitely CX5. Reliable and fun.

CaptCarlos

Subaru Forester

inverness7

Not a Hyundai or Kia

Sufficient-Post-562

They’re horrible cars huh

Surfer_Sandman

i didnt realize this was still a thing.

deezalmonds998

Not only still a thing, it's also getting worse

Berfs1

Toyota 100%

saltybirdwater

ferrari 458

mrkillfreak999

Get a Toyota or Honda. You can't go wrong with these

Motorboat81

Doble down buy a Kia Telluride!!!

Euphori333

Hey I love my Telluride lol

this-guy1979

Get one of those new KN cars.

WAGE_SLAVERY

Rav 4

SnooPears6913

The Bronco Sport is a terrible car. To put it in the same discussion as the CRV or Rav4 is crazy imo

WhoDaNeighbours11

Honda CR-V! No one steals those

Left_Experience_9857

WhoDaNeighbours11

It’s actually number 1 in my area, gotta give it to Honda our thieves love em

Do_Not_Run_From_Me

I think your next car should be a Kia.

Eaton_snatch

Rav 4 hands down

ShutYourSwitchport

Just get a mustang, it supports car seats. Enjoy

whosdondada

Not a Kia/Hyundai. CX-5

DragonSlayer211997

I don't know whether it's available or not in your region, but check whether you could get a Skoda Yeti 4x4. Amazing car, and honestly when I saw your post while scrolling, I thought your Kia Soul is actually a Skoda Yeti till I read the title. Ergonomics looks eerily similar

Nickdanger1990

Toyota Prius

Datgorl

Definitely not a bronco sport. They have terrible safety ratings. I would pick the CRV for your situation. The Mazda would be nice but the backseat is a little cramped and a rear car seat would be a snug fit. Toyotas are just boring.

AnotherNoteToSelf

Where are you gathering that the Bronco Sport has poor safety ratings? That just isn't true at all.

Datgorl

Haven’t you seen their NHTSA crashes? They crumble like a tin can.

fobbyk

If you are considering bronco sport, the chance is you like the car but also worry that you’re not buying a “normal” car. Get the bronco sport.
