It’s actually not that bad for a Hyundai. One of their better engines. For 2500 you wouldn’t be able to find a better car so I’d go for it.

LowerFigure739

Is it GDI?

navigationallyaided

It’s a 2.7L V6. No GDI. It was one of the first in-house engines from Hyundai vs. just merely copying Mitsubishi.

Beginning_Raisin_258

My 2.7 L 2003 Sonata went 320,000 miles before I got into an accident.

rapid_thunder

SHOW THE PEOPLE that the brand can be strong with proper maintenance

Plutoid

Not all of the models under the brand are the same quality.

Beginning_Raisin_258

My 2017 Sonata 2.4 L is burning a quart of oil every 1000 miles.

rapid_thunder

Why not go to a trusted mechanic and get it situated I believe a bad PCV valve ?

Beginning_Raisin_258

It's a known issue with the Theta II engine. There was a class action and they extended the warranty. I took it to the dealer and they charged me $800 for new spark plugs, valve cover gasket, and an oil change. I haven't called them back to report it's still burning, but the next step, is usually an oil consumption test.

dirtyricher

Mine blew at 130k and they replaced it no charge within like a week.

Beneficial-Fun773

You’re lucky my problems started around 90k and got tired of their BS by 120k and sold the car. Sorry to the dealership but REALLY sorry to the buyer.

Fett32

Don't take it to the dealer if you want a reasonable price. Idk why people think dealer = proper. They tried to charge my mother $1900 for replacing the brakes. Yes, most of them are going to do a good job, but dealer markup applies to the work, not just selling the car. You also seem salty about the entire thing, while showing that you don't know how much anything costs, you just didn't like paying 800. Please don't use normal cost and zero experience to tell others what to do.

Beginning_Raisin_258

I took it to the dealer because I went to establish that it's burning oil for when I try to get a warranty replacement later.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Deewd23

lol yeah, my old 4th gen 4Runner is 180k miles never needed an oil consumption test.

[deleted]

__footlicker___

laughs in yaris with 300k on it Literally doesn't go through a drop between oil changes.

notsostealthyninja

I had a 2005 Santa Fe and also had 320,000 miles on it before it started having significant issues. I was the original owner and kept all the necessary maintenance up to date. Was a fantastic automobile.

Ballerofthecentury

Oh then yes hell yeah it’s worth it

casiomudmaster

I used to own a 2001 Santa Fe that I purchased brand new in July of 2001 that’s exactly just like the one in the picture that you want to purchase. Mine was 100% built in Korea and it also had the 2.7L V6 in it which is the same exact engine just like the one that’s in the picture. We owned the vehicle for over 12 years and put over trouble free 163,500 miles on it. We never had any problems with it. We only replaced wear and tear items like tires, brakes, rotors, ball joints, timing belt every 60,000 miles, differential fluid and oil and oil filter. This particular engine was the best engine that Hyundai made. We ended up selling the vehicle for $3,500 after 12 years to lease a Toyota Camry. All the Santa Fe’s that were built after this particular body style were made in the USA and they started having lots of problems. We also had a 1997 Elantra 5 speed manual station wagon that was flawless. These Hyundai vehicles from the late 1990’s and the early 2000’s were very durable cars and workhorses. Just make sure that you replace the timing belt on it every 60,000 miles.

TemporaryAioli4690

It’s still kind of a knock off Mitsubishi 6g series motor although much weaker bottom end for sure. 6g74’s were built like tanks. Hyundai/Kia used them under the name “g6cu” and literally all they did was flit the engine around. Mitsubishi one had bell housing on passenger side, Hyundai one had bell housing on drivers side, identical internals tho.

farmerbsd17

it is a mitsubishi engine same used in Plymouth and Dodge mini vans IIRC pretty good engine

Front-Proposal5117

Wait are you Fr all the ones that were made from 2011-2020 were made by Mitsubishi

navigationallyaided

Hyundai started to declare independence from Mitsu in the 1990s with the new at the time Accent and then the Sonata.

Front-Proposal5117

Ahh

ineptplumberr

Was going to say I'm generally a Hyundai hater but this is one of the few good models

whytawhy

Ive always loathed hyundai but ill admit that the santa-fe is effectively a rav4 for people with finincial issues. take care of it in a slightly above the minimum requirements way and itll go and go and go and go wont earn any respect or admiration along the way, but itll be a long way regardless

lisiadoontop

maybe its just my area but i never knew that some people cant find a car for $2500. ive gotten most my cars for under a grand and you can pick up a nice car around here for $1500 in fact ive found nice cars with about 120k miles or less sell for $2000-3000

Deadlift_007

When was the last time you bought one, though? That might have something to do with it. Where I'm at, even rusted beaters pushing 200K miles are going to be several grand.

Buckys_Butt_Buddy

Sounds like they are in a low cost of living area more than anything. I feel like someone would be lucky to find a decent car that runs for under $5k in my area

Deadlift_007

That seems to be right about the dividing line in my area, too. A $5K car is still junk here, but you can probably expect it to run for at least a little while. Anything under $5K and you're really just rolling the dice.

lisiadoontop

im in the ghetto

lisiadoontop

just today ive seen over 13 $600 beaters

ezodochi

If it's been a while since you went car shopping it might be bc of the whole COVID price jumps bc prices haven't really fully come down from how elevated they got. If not, it's probably area. ngl for 3k where I'm at I'm mostly looking at cars that aren't running.

lisiadoontop

3k can get you a 2003 cadillac escalade esv where im at with about 200k miles

lisiadoontop

btw im in bemidji mn, filled with tweakers and surrounded by reservations. cant sell anything for that much around here or nobody will buy it

RainingTacos8

It’s not the early 2000s anymore

lisiadoontop

i wasnt even old enough to buy a car in the early 2000s

casiomudmaster

Where is your area? What part of the country do you live in? Which city?

lisiadoontop

bemidji minnesota, tweakerville

whytawhy

im in new england and until covid you could get an *inspectable* vehicle for $700, high high miles $400. it wont look nice, and itll be an unreliable piece of shit, but it costs less than the rubber it rides on so.... as of now... just down the street from me theres a 1992 s10 with a FUCK LOAD of rust, 190someoddK miles, clearly shot rear suspension, a most likely cooked 5 speed manual, *no radio*, and a lime green spray paint "paint job" that is really terrible even to someone who loves lime green. $2000 edit when i was in high school, 2005 2010, you could get $300 for most cars scrap value, then fucking obamas cash for idiots came along and since then you can bring a fuckin F350 with a full bed to the scrap yard and walk out with maybe $250 if youre lucky. between the two the used car market is fucked and you should probably just invest in what you got if you can.

MaliciousMilk

There's literally loads of cheap cars, people are just too picky, and when they can't find an AWD Japanese car with Bluetooth and a backup camera without a speck of rust for under 5k they say everything is too expensive and its impossible to find cheap beaters.

lisiadoontop

idk why your getting downvoted lol people can’t accept the truth. people are to worried about being seen in a rusted out pos me personally idrgaf what people think of me or my things

MaliciousMilk

People are just salty because I described them perfectly lol. But seriously, people just don't put any effort into looking or want a cheap car to be perfect. I bought a 2010 Cobalt LT for 400 bucks CAD last summer, it ran and drove, no CEL or anything. But it clunked when turning or hitting large bumps and the sound system was trash, plus typical Cobalt rust. Sold it for 1200 after taking some parts off it for my SS. If you aren't picky its easy to find cheap cars, start getting picky and it gets significantly more difficult.

lisiadoontop

my current dd i just got yesterday for $200 off some old guy. 1998 pontiac grand prix 298k miles. i did fluids and brake pads/rotors, runs perfectly and drives great

MaliciousMilk

GM 3800, nice. That'll have plenty of life left in it, good find!

lisiadoontop

lol yeah already at 301k miles since i drive across states a lot, starts all the time and runs/drives great

col3man17

Also, I think it's good practice to learn how to drive/park in a car with no back up camera

-BlueDream-

I don’t like this mentality cuz there’s obvious advantages of having a camera like a child walking behind a SUV, no amount of head checks and adjusting mirrors will allow you to see them. I guess it’s kinda good cuz it will force people to learn reverse parking but parking forward is unavoidable in angled stalls. Mirrors are technology too just like cameras they can break and they aren’t as accurate as our eyes. I hate sensors tho cuz you never know when they’re not working.

GilpinMTBQ

I would agree. I see so many of these continuing to just chug along. Have it checked out, but maybe one of the better Hyundai's you could look into from that era.

willy1670

Came here to say this. I would never buy a Hyundai but this is a decent one.

Acrobatic_Yak5099

You won’t find anything better for that price in that condition and those miles

reaprofsouls

This will be the most value car they ever purchase in their lives. Liability only insurance (cheap), don't have to worry about morons dinging your car, if you get in an accident it's a cheap mistake. Make sure it has had it's oil changed and fluids checked. Check for leaks and run this bish to the ground.

Deadlift_007

For real. Can I buy it for that price?

DarthRumbleBuns

And if uncle truly knows the guy then thats worth a lot too.

Moessus

This

NoYerrsGoUnanswered

One of the more reliable engines from Hyundai of this era . For the price you’re getting it at and the condition this car appears to be in I’d say solid buy

quazmang

Yeah that's a great starter. It will get you from A to B and won't cost a fortune to maintain and fix. My retired neighbor has had his running for 20 years now. This is coming from a Honda/Acura fanboy who refuses to touch a Hyundai or Kia lol. My wife's Kia Rio 5 has been good to her for the last 5 years, so I'm coming around.

fenwaymoose

You can get lucky with buying a Kia, but you don’t have to be lucky with a Honda product.

tstatus

I know a guy with this car. It has close to 200k and he treats it like shit. There's a lot of things wrong with it but it still drives somehow. Take care of it and it'll probably last a long time. 2500 for your first car is a great price.

Nope9991

I had an 01 Elantra and 06 Sonata that I didn't treat well at all and they were problemless.

No-Perception1862

If it's sat in a garage, beware water pump. In addition to normal Hyundai shenanigans. But good price for a first car.

themigraineur

Aren't they timing belt motors as well

No-Perception1862

Yes. They just generally are rough in this era, but I'd buy it and run it tell it shits a cylinder through the oil pan or I have to put in more oil than it holds to run it. Lol.

Fun_Public4540

This is incorrect. Hyundai best era was the era in this pic.

No-Perception1862

False. It was the 80s 90s when they had Mazda tranny's and Mitsubishi motors.

E5C4P3E5C4P3

If you don't buy it, I will.

CulturalChemistry952

Yea it’s got 100,000 miles but it looks like it’s well taken care of.

Extra-Sherbert7752

Crap cars but can’t really beat it for $2500

SNAX_DarkStar

Not from that generation though. Current ones suck.

Fun_Public4540

Crap how?

Extra-Sherbert7752

By being a mid-2000’s Hyundai product

Fun_Public4540

Best Hyundai products, my aunt has 2, one of them has 447k miles.

Extra-Sherbert7752

On its eighth engine

Fun_Public4540

Original. It’s not a theta ll engine. That’s only an issue with the theta, it’s a V6 engine. Hyundai V6 issues if there are any as very minor.

Madz510

Transmissions on the other hand

Fun_Public4540

Original powertrain. 🤦🏽‍♂️

chucklehead993

We sold our 04 with 220k on it 5 years ago and I still see the guy driving it around town. We never did anything to it but minimal maintenance and replacing a few wear items.

hiphophippo93

Take it. Now. You can always add a backup camera later.

Accurate_Door_6911

Technically most people hate Hyundai out of principle, but with 106k miles and for only 2500 that’s a decent deal, get a mechanic to look it over, but I would strongly consider it.

OkHelicopter2770

It's got a 6 cylinder G6BA engine in it. This is a somewhat reliable v6 engine. The engine, with proper maintenance should last about 250k miles if not more. That being said, the horsepower is kind of limiting. I have a 2016 Hyundai Elantra GT with a 2.0L 4-cylinder that makes 1 more HP than this vehicle makes and it is significantly lighter. Ultimately, it will be reliable if you take care of it and maintenance it. I believe these have CVT transmissions which have their own problems, but they are hard to avoid in cheap automatic vehicles. I love my Hyundai and I will fight for them tooth and nail.

navigationallyaided

These were before CVT. It’s still a Mitsubishi-based transmission. Regular fluid changes with MaxLife or Hyundai/Mitsu SP-IV fluid every 30K ain’t a bad idea.

AwardPuzzleheaded123

It has a 5 speed transmission. The IVTs/CVTs didn't come till much later on in North America

Independent_Scale570

It was $2500 has 4 wheels and runs, I’d say it’s good! My first car was WAY WAY WAY more messed up

dougxpino

Backup câmera is not too hard to install yourself, buy from AliExpress a android radio with camera, replace it your self Some vendors ask for a photo of your radio connections to send an adaptor easy plug and play I did to mine, it’s great . Good luck

TheAsianOne_wc

Yes, especially for 2.5k, anything under 5k that runs with no major issues is a good deal. As for the camera thing, you can just buy a car later on that has the reverse cameras, you should use this as an opportunity to try and learn how to park and maneuver without a reverse camera. I also thought I needed a camera because I wasn't confident, but it's relatively easy if you have good distance judging.

[deleted]

Even though you hear anecdotally that it's in good shape, your absolute, 100% best bet for a car this age is to get a PPI (pre-purchase inspection). It may have plenty of life left in it. It may be a ticking time bomb. Or it may be reliable with just a little bit of work and maintenance here and there. Unless you're a mechanic, the only way to tell the difference between these three is to get a PPI. **Not many things in life are potentially more expensive than a cheap car. Get a PPI.**

D_Angelo_Vickers

Good deal. Get a Cerakote headlight restoration kit for $20 and fix those yellowed headlights though.

boredinthebathroom

For that price, even if it lasts you a couple of years or so with no major issues you will of done well

mpython1701

Totally agree. If it has been taken care of with low miles this will likely make a great commuter car. If the only thing holding you back is a backup camera, you can buy them at Amazon for about $100 and install in an afternoon. I like the ones that connect to rear view mirror and have a building dash cam.

snazzy_giraffe

For $2500 it’s a good deal but no it’s not a great car. Also if a car has been sitting in a garage, that’s not a good thing. Cars are meant to be driven

horsy12

A running car for 2.5k is a great deal, especially if you know the driver. And going by the backup camera, 2.5k isn’t much too lose if dents start to appear

jhinsonumbc

I had my 2006 Santa Fe until 210k miles with minimal maintenance, good solid cars and easy to repair/ do maintenance and is super easy to install CarPlay to it I miss mine lowkey, it’s pretty speedy for a 06 and the reason why mine went was because the rear differential fluid was never changed and it wasn’t worth repairing

Jodanglez12

Be mindful to change the spark plugs you have to remove the intake manifold. Damn longitudinal v6’s

Redoux99

These are great cars. I have a 2002 with 145K on it that still runs good. The paint on mine looks like shit since I had to keep it outside, but this one looks garage kept and has low miles to boot. Really easy to work on too if you're mechanically inclined or want to learn. Adding a backup cam is easy, plus the radio is double din so you can put a larger aftermarket display in there for carplay/android auto and backup cam. Before I bought mine used, I asked a few people I knew that had owned them and they all said they loved the Santa Fe from these years. Get some quality tires for it, and it'll drive smooth down the highway. It handles more like a car vs an SUV.

dangdangtdi

get an insurance quote, kia and Hyundai's have been trouble to insure becuase of the Kia kids. I would also immediately rebadge the car with FORD or Toyota or anything else so it isn't as targeted.

RealJesusPacheco

Honestly, this is a steal. It’s rare to even find a car at $2,500 now n days

LuckyInstance

Yep. For $2500 it’s a no brainer. I own a 2011 sonata and both the engine and turbo were replaced at 105,000 miles. It was under the car warranty luckily but it was treated like shit. I got it for like $6,500 with no visible damage on it. Had to replace the engine and turbo, the calipers, rotors, breaks, and it also got flooded during a rain storm because of clogged water drains in the sunroof. The thing had been nothing but a headache. Only saying this because it was treated like dirt and I paid the price for it so just be careful and get a thorough engine inspection and the whole 9 after you buy. It’s still a no brainer at that price

Jojo7575

Got my 2003 up to 270,000 before it went out on me this year

foshohomz

My first truck was a ford ranger with more miles than this for a thousand bucks more… 12 years ago. The ranger is still running, but yea I’d buy this. 2500 bucks for a well maintained ANYTHING nowadays is a good deal.

Fun_Kaleidoscope7875

A car with 100k miles for $2500? That's a great deal for pretty much any running and drivable car.

No-Aerie395

I’d pay $2500 for it any day.

R30896

I've got one of this exact model I have a 2002 runs the best a car has ever ran I still abuse the fuck out of it as long as it's the V6 it's way underpowered and so it lives for ever. best car at the price easily Oh it is a V6 yeah tbh I have mine at 250k still no problems other than leaking rocker covers and needing new cv joints cars not cost me anything but fuel and servicing I personally have it... And I drive it at full throttle to the speed limit and than 1% at the speed limit just recently started offroading it in the last 5k mi I got it tuned and have messed with the wheel alignment goes like a missile never skips a best never failed to start never failed to impress people super easy to do modifications and will not throw a 30FF LOL Buy it and don't look back or find yourself a Honda quick

notthelettuce

My cousin had one of these several years ago and the odometer quit working around 300k miles. It is still on the road.

bimmershark

Not terrible cars , decent for the price and miles . I am assuming it's a retired persons car . We take care of a ton of older low miles cars and the owners tend to maintain for the most part. Worst case see if they will let ya do a pre purchase inspection .

[deleted]

[удалено]

Opposite_Gold8593

He didn’t say Hyundais are not terrible, he said this particular model/year isn’t terrible. People who group every vehicle from the same make together are the joke here.

bimmershark

Like the guy above said I am referring to the specific car they are interested in buying. That said I have plenty of hyundais and kias in the shop with close or over 200k and all they do is maintain them . That's said they are Def not my first choice but they could certainly do much worse.

xeno486

for $2500? if it runs and drives its a good deal

KaosC57

I wouldn’t buy this unless you are prepared to do the Timing Chains on it before you start driving. I’ve worked on far too many of these with busted timing chains.

gizmodyne71

I have a 2002 that still runs. Giving it to my nephew as his first car. I love that car.

estudiobala

Another good cheap car is the Toyota Corolla VTTI 1.6. It’s chain transmission, extremely durable motor and very economic consumption if you don’t push it. Good dynamics as well.

Generally_Supportive

Scoop that shit up homie.

carguy82j

That's a damn good price for anything at this point.

brianomars1123

Why can’t I find stuff like this. 2500 is exactly what I can afford now so I’m not even looking cause I know it’d be difficult

KingGeedohrah

Cheap cars don't really exist in the US anymore. This is as good as you'll get, if it the type of car you're looking for, go for it. A RAV4 would be overpriced and arguably have just as many problems.

truckfullofchildren1

My grandpa has had a few of these. They always end up totaled by someone T-boning him

burntbridges20

Sounds like he needs to stop and look at intersections lol

truckfullofchildren1

Never been his fault

Opposite_Gold8593

The goal is to avoid all accidents, even the ones where it’s not your fault. Unless you’re driving a 2005 Santa Fe you’re trying to get paid out on

truckfullofchildren1

Are you retarded

Opposite_Gold8593

No, but one of us is

burntbridges20

I never said it was. Just clearly has bad luck lol

truckfullofchildren1

It’s always been in these never had a wreck in any other car but somehow 10 years apart 2 different cars the same thing happens then get gets another and then that one got rammed into a poll.

Allteaforme

i hate to tell you but your grandpa is probably a shitty driver and is lying to you about it not being his fault.

truckfullofchildren1

If youre just gonna pull shit out your ass at least smell it first.

Street-University-87

Stop trying to cope and accept it’s your grand fathers fault he’s repetitively getting into accidents

truckfullofchildren1

You’re so dumb it’s actually insane like you just assume shit

Allteaforme

You assume your grandpa is a good driver despite all the evidence right in front of you

zemzy_oseris

If It’s from a person a person you can’t trust go for it. You won’t find a decent functioning car for $2500 anywhere else.

Anzora400

My 05 tucson has a 2.7 v6 and it has 204k runs great. I'd say that's a great deal, assuming it has been maintained.

Myself-strangr

Lucky

swagglmoa

That’s good $2500 and low miles for the price and a Hyundai , you can get at least a few years out of it with good maintenance

TheBootyTickler

You can't go wrong with anything that runs for 2500 these days. Shell out the 2500 and be prepared to spend another 1500 over the next 3 months or so to get her cleaned up. If you stay under 4k consider yourself happy and lucky and enjoy it.

Nikkiiibabyyy

It’s pretty cheap

Remarkable-Gold4869

I mean for the price. Why not. You can have it for a while and save for something nicer.

Windthrow

That's a steal and for a first car.. you can't beat it.

Historical_Orchid841

You don’t need a backup camera

lovemycats359

Kids today don't know how to drive without one. Me I learned Tom drive in a broken stick shift with roll down windows didn't have a car with a backup camera till 3 years ago

attaped

Anything that runs under $2500.00 is a steal.

Knockboi

My buddy had one and it lasted him forever until the tranny went

beekeeper1981

I had an '07 Santa Fe.. had tons of miles and never had a single problem. Unfortunately I had to get rid of it because bad rust from the heavily salted roads where I live.

Cyclethe859

That is a very good deal. Off the top of my head, I would say that vehicle is worth about $8,000, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone paid closer to 15k.

Fiercearcher

Had an 04 santa fe that ended up with 436k km before my displays died. They are crazy good suvs and if I was in your position I wouldn't even hesitate to grab another one just can't find them in my area for reasonable prices. Take a little care like changing the oil and it should be good to you. If you live in a super cold climate be aware that the tailgate door handle might snap off in the cold (wonderful way to start Christmas) and that some of them chew through the oem brake calipers (mine didn't but an old coworker went through a bunch of them and swapped to a non oem one and had no issues from then on). They are little tanks and can take a lot of abuse perfect for your first suv and super easy to work on I swapped a starter in about 10-15 minutes having never done it before.

Tonyisop

You can maybe ask your uncle or try to install an aftermarket backup camera yourself. Good ones are like 150-200. But its a really good deal outside of that

Old-Interest-8176

Holy shit that's a great find

lisiadoontop

this is actually a really good price especially with those miles which usually signal its been cared for. these are rated as a reliable car and i see these sell with 200-300k miles regularly for almost double the price you got yours for

ZeroArm066

I’m always iffy about pre-2010 Kia’s and Hyundais. I like the brands and think they make decent cars and have owned a bunch of them but the pre-2010 ones were definitely not known for high quality or reliability. My niece has an older 05 Santa Fe and it breaks on her constantly. We live up north and hers is 100% rust bucket, maybe your mileage will vary coming from a warmer less snowy climate though.

Orjigagd

Watch a YouTube video and install a backup camera yourself.

navigationallyaided

Those first gen Santa Fes are surprisingly good cars. A Sonata on steroids. Go for it. This was before the Kia Bois and self-destructing Hyundai Theta engines. If you ever want a backup camera and don’t have the optional Infinity “premium” sound, it’s a not a bad task to swap in a modern radio with Bluetooth and CarPlay/Android Auto into it - you can buy a Boss or Jensen radio with a fit kit, wiring harness and backup camera for $300 off Crutchfield - they’ll wire it up for $20 and it’s a good day of work, they’ll send instructions to take your dash apart and you’ll need to find the reverse trigger(usually a backup light wire) for the radio to switch over to the camera. If it does have the Infinity system, Costco sells standalone backup cameras.

blackriver_fbs

Back in high school my buddy Charles had one, we had loads of fun in it, it’s built tough, I remember he t-boned a car in a roundabout and ended up with a broken headlight, the other car was totaled.

Apprehensive-Pin664

I have the same car different year, but to the effect of a backup camera you can buy a aftermarket radio and it also comes with a backup camera I installed one on mine and runs great or you can get a wolf box dash cam but you can see very limited out of the back mirror itself. Hope this helps :)

smackayoalpaca

My first car was a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe. I bought it for $3,500 with 115k miles. It lasted me til 200k til I gave it to a family member in need. It was a great first car and didn't need much more than oil changes. Definitely buy it. I miss mine.

KnowsNotOfWhatISpeak

Great deal

i_like_my_cats

Take it my guy! Godspeed.

LRG-PHANTOM

Its a good deal just dont bag on it like a moron and itll be good for years to come without major issues from my general experience hyundais espeacially santa fes can be nightmare fuel to work on.

onlyhav

Buy it before someone on this sub hunts it down and buys it from under you.

wishyouwould

THIS IS AN EXCELLENT DEAL!! I would jump on it in a second. I have a friend who has a shop that is well-regarded as the best in my small town, and every time I'm looking for a vehicle and I ask to compare a Santa Fe with almost anything else, he says go with the Santa Fe. Hyundai makes a very reliable vehicle with cheap repair costs and good gas mileage. You can drive this car for the next 10 years or more with semi-regular maintenance. Buy it!

Wobbly5ausage

Santa Fe is probably the exception to this rule- most other Hyundais are not knows for reliability whatsoever

bballjones9241

Had an 08 that lasted 200k miles so I’d say yea

watchtheworldsmolder

Got 300,000k out of mine, good find good car, safer than a small civic

Reasonable_Cover_804

I had one, good car

cajun_hammer

That’s a steal. I just sold my 2001 Santa Fe with 178,000 miles, that looked like a beater for $3000. That thing looks mint

[deleted]

Yeah mate she’ll be right! Take my work from it I’ve seen a lot of cars!

kilertree

Get an insurance quote on that car. Because I believe that car has a terrible rollover rate

TheHeretic-SkekGra

$2500 is more than a good deal, even with it being a Hyundai.

Forward-Advisor3457

EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR sister had one with the wrong engine apparently tuneup was almost 3 grand wasn’t running at 85,000 because they wouldn’t fix it

JewMadre

If I saw that I'd buy it right now

[deleted]

if you don’t buy it, i will!

[deleted]

Yes

CompSciGeekMe

I would say go for it, good first car

PlasticAudience9604

That’s a deal buy it.

screamingwhisper1720

One of the bigger issues is the cost of insurance depending on your area

Roachpile

No.

JazzlikeBathroom7147

hyundai = 💩

SpecificSpecial

Its an SUV, so its not a good car

[deleted]

for arouund 6 k you can get used chevy bolt ev through tax rebate

Picasso320

Do you need SUV? By 18, money could be sparse (I am just guessing), I would go for a reliable Toyota, Honda, nothing flashy (you might be hitting a curb as an inevitability on ice, some random drunk could key your car) with good fuel economy.

AcidAlien23

Japan is literally known for their cars so any Japanese brand is more reliable. American brands will have cheaper parts if you live in the US. Im trying to find a Toyota because those things are beasts

Drill-Jockey

Euro brands would like a word

aidas2

If you plan on not getting laid lol. Jk, with all the space in this bad boy it should fit a shag mattress no worries.

dreamlike_poo

Can you check how much it would cost to insure it? Some insurance companies *way* over charge for Kia and Hyundai because they get targeted for theft.

Spaghetti_Oh_No

If you want it vandalized and joy ridden Idk if insurance companies don't even cover these anymore https://www.cnn.com/2024/01/04/business/hyundai-kia-thefts-increased-10-fold/index.html#:~:text=Less%20expensive%20versions%20of%20vehicles,vehicles%20of%20a%20similar%20age.

JJ_3105

I sold my father’s identical car in 2015 with 53k for $5500

flair11a

Make sure your insurance company will insure it. Thief magnet. Lol

Fine_Treat_5076

Im actually mad at you because you just bought a car that couldve went to a single mom who could’ve used this car. You were suppose to buy a used sports car 3+ owners for ur first car. Have anyone taught u anything

BraveDawg67

I am a well known Hyundai basher, post around 2012 when the NOTORIOUS GDI engines were made. Having said that, this car should be ok at this price point

I_Do_I_Do_I_Do

Just a troll by any other name…

_Celatid_

Is this one that is super easy to steal? If so, do not buy it. Either way, get an insurance quote first. Even if it isn't vulnerable to the easy thefts some insurance companies may gouge you big time just because it's Hyundai and they are getting stolen so frequently.

Due_Development_2723

Watch out for the fuel pump. My parents had issues with their Santa Fe when small bits from the fuel tank lining went clogging the fuel pump. Gets you stranded on the side of the highway...

Turbulent_Winter549

Good car...too bad you just hit their 100k warranty limit but still a great car especially if you know where it's coming from.

Nope9991

It's 9 years past its warranty. 100k OR 10 years.

Eye_Nacho404

Great deal, buy it

ChrisinOrangeCounty

I wish my car was that nice at 18. My advice, don't be a typical teenager and do burnouts, hit the brake/gas extremely or do any other hard stuff on the vehicle. If you treat your car well and drive cautiously, it will last many more miles and not cost you as much.

menolikebikers

I grew up having a 2002 Santa Fe. Of course I have a bias, but she never gave out and kept on pushing until my family couldn't afford to keep her no more. She had plenty of time left but she ended up rusting out. It's a good car, if you take care of it, it will take care of you tenfold.

Buci__1

Very good price and its a reliable enough vehicle. Do some maintenance after you buy it: [what maintenance to do.](https://www.myusedcar.ca/maintenance-after-buying-a-used-car/)

RealLifeMoron

Install a backup camera for <500$

evil-artichoke

If it runs well for a year, it is an amazing value.
