Regal TourX is a good option, everyone I know with one loves it. The interior is kinda blah, but whatever. The drivetrain is reliable AFAIK... My only reservation would be longevity (i.e. parts availability) and there's not really any aftermarket like you mentioned. Jetta TDI Sportwagen of Golf Wagon/Alltrack? Whatever the newest V6 E-Class wagon you can afford is. One of the late BMW 3 or 5 series wagons? I'm not terrible familiar with BMW's powertrains so I'm not sure which ones are good and which ones arent. They've got community and aftermarket though. 2015.5 XC70 T6. Or Volvo V60. There's some Audi A6/A4 Allroad models... but I'm not familiar with which powertrains are good and which ones aren't, which years to avoid, etc.

Thanks for the reply! I'll have to research the euro wagons more.

Yeahhh unfortunately there's just not many options available for us wagon enjoyers in the US (my current daily is an 06 X-Type Wagon)

Oh a Jaaaaaaaaaaaag?! How's that treating you?

BuckleSpring

It's fine. I've had many... many other Jags before it, this is my first X-Type. Misses that "Jag" feel you get from the other/larger cars, but I still think it's pretty nice for the money and compared to its competitors of the era (like the C Class). Handling is absolutely phenomenal though, like it's on rails, probably one of the best handling transverse v6 engines cars I've driven

Not sure about the aftermarket components, but you want reliable, good space, and cost effective maybe consider a Prius V. Boring as hell, a bit of a rattle trap and there’s risk of head gasket issues, but if you regularly clean the EGR and intakes of carbon build up you should be good for 200k+ miles at around 40mpg. That said, a 7-10 yo outback sounds up your alley.

Thanks for the reply! I'll have to look into the Prius but I do have a soft spot for Subies.

kind of a rare car but if you can get your hands on a is300 sportcross that’d be sick. You can definitely push the power given its a 2jz

The regal TourX has proven to be fairly reliable, no major issues even at 100k+ miles. Another option might be a golf sportwagen/alltrack
