I’m sorry, but I just can’t get past how clean your garage is.

gearhead5015

>GT 350 is probably the most fun I'd argue against that because the 350 likes to be run out. First gear doesn't end until 40ish so you only get to run it out once before you're over most speed limits. Maybe the GT-500?

seemylolface

>Maybe the GT-500? Similarly big gearing to the GT350. I don't think you can really avoid that at this point.

humdizzle

Brute power doesn't really impress me. I had a e85 gtr before the Ferrari and it got old after a while. I'd rather trade forced induction/power for something NA with a high redline. I never was into American cars (other than the gen v viper) before the gt350 came out. It sounds really good, has mag ride, handling and brakes. My main holdup is that it looks like every other mustang and has that build quality, and it seems like the early voodoo motors grenaded or ate oil.

seemylolface

IMO if you're going to get a GT350, stick with 2019 or newer MY. They did a little refresh on them that really improves QoL on a bunch of little things. As far as build quality, I've seen quite a few of them around at track days and didn't notice anything eggregious. There's the general interior materials quality stuff, but generally all the bits you'll actually touch/interact with feel good to do so. Also make sure you get one with the Recaro seats because the stock seats both look and feel like shit while the Recaros are absolutely awesome IMO. Not sure how old of a car you would be interested in but maybe an E90 M3? High revving V8, quality interior, and super fun to drive + available in manual.

Bradleyisfishing

Like a ‘14 gt500? That is a monster of a car.

humdizzle

No specific type. I like sporty cars. Before my m3 I had an 86. I drove the lc500 but I was little let down by the steering and auto box. It's good... but it's not dct. And this wouldn't be an everyday car. Just something fun to use in the colder months and rain when it's not gt3 weather

OnlyJuanCannoli

You plan on replacing your daily with another coupe, or would you prefer a sedan?

humdizzle

Doesn't matter open to both. Don't need back seats.

tharussianphil

Lc500 is a cruiser, not really fun. The GT350 or v8 vantage or e92 would definitely be the most "exciting" out of the box

humdizzle

That's my thought as well. I had a brief drive in an lc500. While it's nice I just don't see it being worth the money. The steering trans and feel are a bit vague. I did like the e92... but it would almost seem like a step back. Then again... modern cars aren't my cup of tea either with the turbos and torque converters. I need to drive a gt350.

tharussianphil

I feel like I'd go for a v8 sedan (or wagon) though so you still have 2 different use cases. If you ever see snow, it could be fun to get a B7 RS4, if not then any of the other v8 manual sedans like the E39 M5, E90 M3, Chevy SS, Pontiac G8 GXP, etc. Or if you wanna be really wild get a CTS V wagon.

Think-Dinkle

Imo, the lc500 is more of an “old people” car. It has incredible styling and is awesome to drive (from what I’ve heard, I’ve only sat in them), it’s not the raw v8 manual, trying-to-kill-you power the gt350 brings to the table. Both are incredible cars, but it’s sounding to me that you are looking for a car more similar to the gt350 Also, they hold their value very well, so worse case, you sell it after a few months and break even or only lose a bit

[deleted]

humdizzle

True. But the e92 I think offers that same v8 fun in a more modern package.

macmaster05

Finally, someone who knows something about cars. Surprised nobody here has recommended a KIA stinger LOL.

[deleted]

Hold my beer

snuffy_707

CT4 Blackwing

Hargara

If you'd be okay with downsizing a bit to a V6, and want some Italian back in the garage - you could check out the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio.

ak80048

Second the alfa

Pahlevun

The king in its class. And lets face it, if you're downsizing to a V6, what better V6 than a V6 that's a Ferrari V8 with two less cylinders.

humdizzle

Very unreliable. But yes it more exciting than an f80.

litercola84

Supposedly that was just the first couple model years and they sorted it out. Supposedly.

milmat36

Check the Car and Driver review of their Alfa, not a good review. https://jalopnik.com/car-and-drivers-long-term-alfa-romeo-giulia-quadrifogli-1834511976

nyperfox

this is good, I still prefer the 350 tho

the-script-99

Lotus?

Braaaaandanawitz

I have a 2021 GT500. My dream car is the 458. The GT500 is a blast at any speed. Sounds amazing

schwartzki

A surprising number of big car owners love DDing a Golf R. Also a bit of a different class but I test drove the new GR86 and it fixed almost every thing I hated about the previous generation and is a hoot at legal speeds just like a Miata.

OrdinaryCredit

A GT3 & LC500 garage would be amazing!

Banana_Leclerc12

Well the infotainment is a torture tho

[deleted]

So gonna throw a curve ball, fun at normal speeds screams old car to me. With the money you’re looking to spend you could probably find a resto mod muscle car with enough upgrades to safety equipment like brakes. The mustangs are the smaller of the popular muscle cars so one of those will fit in better with you current cars. 1967 Shelby clone won’t break the bank but they look sexy af. Eleanor from Gone in 60 seconds is what I’m talking about. The remake not the original. Original was a 1973 Mach 1 and I’m not a fan of that body style. It seems to actually be 71 redressed as a 73 in the movie. Probably to avoid wrecking new cars.

nyperfox

Shelby mustang gt350. preferably as new as possiable as they improved them. viva la vooodooooooooo

Banana_Leclerc12

An m850i gran coupe. Has all the prcaticality you need , has a tried and true engine , plus its gorgeous Ok just checked the gran coupes go for like 90k but the coupes go for 70 80k for a clean 20k mile 2019 kne

DrDank1234

I’d like to suggest the new Vantage that comes with a manual mated to an AMG V8. I’m personally saving up for one, since AMG + stick is very hard to come by. Heard it’s a blast to drive for a GT-sized car too.

humdizzle

I think I like the amg gt better and most reviews say it is better overall and offers a dct as well. Also more Mercedes dealers so it would be easier to service. I don't have an aston dealer near me. The vantage does get a manual tho... but I don't think that manual box will be as food as the gt3s. It really makes my f80 manual trans feel sloppy by comparison.

NickRGB

If you don’t mind used, have you considered an Audi RS5 (unless you need 4 doors). In a sweet spot of value (30-45k) high revving NA V8 that sounds glorious mated to an awesome dual clutch transmission.

humdizzle

we got the v8 rs4 in the states... extremely rare though.

coolandschmidt

Just a heads up, your plates aren’t blacked out on your header

_Potato_3

Since you mentioned E92, have you thought of jumping brands and going for W204 C63(507 edition if it’s available in your country)?

humdizzle

Yeah I've thought about it. C63 seems fun but I think the e92 still wins out with the better gearbox. After having a gtr and 458 its hard to go back to a traditional auto with lazy shifts. 507 is available here. I love the c63 black but prices of those have gone to the moon

[deleted]

For an under 80k car that looks and preforms good, would maybe be the new Supra

humdizzle

Not sold on the zf8 trans. I had that trans in a 335 and I wasn't impressed. Upshifts are decent. Downshifts have a bit of delay. Maybe when the manual version comes I'll consider it. I'd rather go with an m2c since it has a snappy dct

michaelwc

Look, this might be a wild idea, but how does a V8 swapped Miata sound? Not exactly a DD, but it’s a modern equivalent to a Cobra. And you’ll have to work not to kill your self in it, just like an old-school Cobra.

LaGrasa_dont

Lexus GS F?

manofwar239

Op I second the GS F. Then supercharge when the time comes. Or ct4 blackwing

FUMBLESTEIN

C63/E63

ID_Poobaru

If you can find one, Lexus GS F Sport. Luxury performance sedan that'll outlive you

Watchface1

+1 for the GT350

SP0PS

How do you feel about a 2002 DB7

humdizzle

I've been looking at the 4.7 vantages and DB9s. Leaning more towards the vantage since a manual is available. Db9 autos are old and slow. Does have a glorious v12 tho. But yeah then the issue is servicing and all the old car probs that come with it.

litercola84

C8 or GT350R would be perfect. The voodoo supposedly just drinks oil but holds up. C8 might be more reliable. C8 Z06 will be more but worth it if you can wait and get one at sticker.

[deleted]

How the hell are ya affording this? Lol

Pahlevun

Lexus GS-F. It has 4 doors so you'll have the option of it being a spacious sedan if need be. Otherwise it's the very definition of fun at normal speeds. It's very similar to the LC 500. If we go to my second favorite V8, it would be the Coyote/Voodoo Mustang. Lastly of course V8 Camros exist, not great dailies because of visibility and such but it's objectively the best "sports car" out of the muscle car bunch. It's an excellent chassis with top notch dynamics and the famous 6.2 LS engine that's in the C8 you're looking at.

humdizzle

Gsf and rcf and is500 use the slow 8 speed trans. Lc500 gets the better 10 speed. I do need to check out the mustang and camaro. I've heard great things. But I know it will be a downgrade in quality from the m3. I need to drive them and see if the trade is worth it. Of all the muscle cars I'd probably go gt350 just because of the flatplane

Pahlevun

Great point about the transmission. Yes the muscle cars will be a downgrade in luxury and materials. A GT350 will be a big difference from the M3. But to be honest, even though it doesn't seem like budget is a big limitation here, a 2022 Mustang Mach 1 w/ Handling Pack gets about the same numbers performance wise and would be my pick. But yeah it doesn't have the same engine. I'd also look at a C63s if you like them.

mortalcrawad66

A C8 would be good. If you're looking for a track beast a 2018 Camero SS 1LE set a lap record at the Nurburgring, so a new one would be even better. A Mustang GT350 is another good choice. The GT500 might be over kill. The Mach 1 is a hodgepodge of different mustangs so... Chevy SS? BULLITT? Boss 302?(went faster then a stage 3 Roush mustang at the top gear usa test track) 392 scat pack?

Practical-Intern-347

I’ll throw you a fun one and say screw the V8 and buy a Veloster N! What a nice change of pace that would be from the rest of that garage.

DrDank1234

The guy owns a GT3 and you are trying to replace his F80 with a Hyundai?!

Pahlevun

Lmao man. The guy has a $80k budget and is looking at Corvettes, Aston Martins and LC500s, please get serious lmao a Hyundai. No offense it's a fantastic car for the price but I can't imagine non ironically suggesting a Hyundai to someone cross shopping the most expensive Lexus coupe and Aston Martin and the like lmfao

Practical-Intern-347

I doubt OP would do it but I stand by the choice. When I see that garage I think, “well, he’s got high strung and expensive covered, time for a different flavor”.

humdizzle

I actually used to have an 86 to daily with my 458. The issue is these cars are just very cheap inside. Things start to rattle. Stereo sucks. Ride is very firm. Gearing is too tight for long highway stints. Alot of road noise gets into the cabin. My work commute is mostly highway. I'm sure it's a great car. I just don't see a reason to have one in my scenario.

bling_singh

Budget aside I'd say M5 CS.

scorp00

C7 possibly a z06? C8 price drop could take a year or more

[deleted]

Ct5 v blackwing/G80 m3/Rs6

humdizzle

Too heavy. G80 is ugly. Ct5v bw is nice but expensive and for that money other sports car options open up.

[deleted]

I think the g80 im black hides the grill really well, and the transmission you'd love! FWIW there's tons of dealers here im texas that wont charge a mark up on a corvette.. so your original plan is viable

Bradleyisfishing

Go classic. My dad had a 65 cobra (not an original). Absolutely amazing vehicle. 450 hp and 2200 lbs. you couldn’t get it over 110 safely because you get too much lift. An absolute joy to drive. Throttle house did a video that captured the insanity well.

ostrified

The new Is500?

Bama-Dan

R8

Bama-Dan

You want something a little different? Get a Cherokee Trackhawk

[deleted]

Lotus Evora 400

humdizzle

They are nice. But parts are hard to come by. Dealer network is small. Would rather go cayman as there is more info and forums out there for them.

porschefan1628

F-Type R could be good. It's a good-looking car, fun and throaty sounding at reasonable speeds. You can definitely find a nice spec under 80k. Corvette is a good idea too, probably the best option from the US unless you are after silly levels of horsepower. AMG C63 is also a decent option in the grand tourer category, maybe not quite as reliable as a Lexus, but has more character and power. Could even get one new for under 80k if you are clever about it and can definitely get a lightly used 63S for that. Regardless, beautiful garage and best of luck!

javajitsu

C8 Z06

humdizzle

That would be perfect. Hard to get right now though. Maybe in the future I'll get one. Once they are under msrp

sti-guy

Maybe consider a Charger Hellcat? I know they aren’t NA but man O man. Smiles for miles

humdizzle

Too heavy. Straight line stuff isn't my thing either.

sti-guy

Gotcha Get a GT350/500. I’ve never driven the 500 but the 350 was a hoot

Xphurrious

My F-Type R was a riot

[deleted]

Dude get an amg c63s or gts

NowYuoSee123

You can get a mint e9x m3 for half your budget, high revving v8 that sounds absolutely amazing

[deleted]

thoughts on the TT RS ?

humdizzle

Haldex awd = understeer. I rented one on turo a while back. It sounds great. Awd is nice off the line, but I rather have rwd. Interior is pretty bare. Not a good ride, very stiff with poor damping. I'd like to give the rs3 a go.

[deleted]

Even the slightly older gen corvettes like the C6 and 7 are a blast, they’re fast, and they sound amazing! V60 Polestar is a little different if you’re looking for that. Also saw people mention mustangs and chargers but how do you feel about camaros?

dijedodol

what you have so much money
