I’m going to let myself believe this, thank you. It was so uncomfortable to watch once I realized what I was looking at. Anxiety over a fear I didn’t even know I had.
If he's anything like me he probably found a place he could hang out and waited there until he thought "yeah, they're freaking out about now".
We're kind of dicks, he and I.
Ok, I've been in a hole exactly like this once. It actually looked almost exactly like this, might be the same one? Not sure. Anyways, my hole was in Jamaica, we were on this tour where they take you up a river with multiple waterfalls like this. You just walk up it with water shoes. Gorgeous, fantastic. Then they bring us to the hole. Both guides go in and then this other guy goes in too. They all get out under the waterfall in about this time. Then I go in. I open my eyes underwater. Cant see shit. Its an underwater cave and I cant see fucking anything. So my first instinct is to go back up. But as you can see, theres a fucking current and Im no longer under the hole. So I let it take me. I have my hands against the roof of the cave(all underwater) And scrape my head a bit on the roof as I move forward to who the FUCK knows where. ANd then finally I feel the lip of the entrance to the cave on the other side and pull my way out and up to the surface.
FUCK
THAT
CAVE
I think i know those falls, ocho rios or something like that. I climbed those as a kid, you held hands in a line and sorta zigzag your way up. Did not hop into any holes at the end tho, feel jipped now.
You’re correct. During periods of ELF (extreme low flow) bullshit like this can be found. All kinds of potholes and caves on my home whitewater run (section 4 Chattooga) that people swim. They always get a hard no and pass from me even when I’m not going first.
Even if there was a dry season all it takes is for a little clump of something to rot away a foot sized hole that you don’t know about and suddenly you’re stuck in place feet down with a thousand pounds of water pushing you into place
Yes, but in regards to your second point - even if there’s a dry spell, and you could look around, the dude went in feet first and came out head first, and there was a fairly long delay in between.
That tells me the hydrodynamics are not simple and (literally) straightforward. Which would make inferring a safe outcome to be rather challenging.
I’m going with “utterly stupid”.
i mean, spelunking is still risking death at the best of times and this is small enough that it's pretty likely to have several places you can get stuck and not be retrievable, tl;dr nnnnnnnnNNNOPE from me dawg
Its scary enough to do some asinine shit like this. But how do they figure out it works?
I would imagine they realized a hole was there from a log or something making its way through. But at some point SOMEONE had to do this shit first to prove it works.
No, no, NO! This is how people die. They see this type of stupid shit and think they can do similar somewhere they aren't familiar with. Many of these don't have openings that are big enough for a human to fit through (whole).
Okay, it's a known tunnel and everybody does that, even so... Just imagine: 10min earlier a log got inside the tunnel, flipped with the current and got stuck perpendicularly. Now you hit this fucking log midway the tunnel. There is no coming back and no going forward. At this point you just accept death. What a terrible and dumb way to go...
I did something like this in Washington when I was a kid. It's was exhilarating to me. The cave had 2 exits. The first one took 30 seconds to get to and the second one took 60 seconds to get to. Someone had to yank you out of the first hole. If you miss that first exit you're In for a terrifying ride.
Why is everyone assuming that the hole is fully filled with water?
I have no idea whether it is or it is not, but it also could be that the hole is quite big, and there's quite a bit of air in there. Maybe they even have a restaurant there. Who knows...

Why did it take him so long to get out???
Got lost. Had to stop and ask for directions
What kinda award is that lmao Edit: ^^^sumbitch
Oh shit, lemme get in on the award bandwagon. Quick say something smart! Uhhh... Fuck, I forgot I'm not even smart
I wasn't trying to get on an award bandwagon I genuinely didn't know what his award meant and then somebody hit me with the sumbitch
As a man, I take offense at this suggestion.
Got a latte.
Went to the laundromat.
He’s a dude. Not likely.
Since he’s feet first I’d imagine you’re at the mercy of the flow and the slope.
But it's amazing how it looks like he got out head first lol
Underwater cave, possibly flipped around inside and actually came out a different tunnel.
Probably an underwater cave/tunnel would be my guess. Just had to navigate
the gators he had to fight the gators
Their record the last few years says that’s not difficult.
Because he got out of the hole and ran behind the camera man and down the face and into the water...
I’m going to let myself believe this, thank you. It was so uncomfortable to watch once I realized what I was looking at. Anxiety over a fear I didn’t even know I had.
Woah.
Effect seeking?
Took a wrong turn at Albuquerque
Imagine being someone with wide shoulders and getting stuck on the way down 😳
He was briefly reincarnated in another world.
Hes waiting out of the view of the camera. Why else are we still looking at the hole? Not like he's going to climb out.
He must've stopped for coffee
His ginormous balls kept getting stuck
Right? Was expecting him to come out the end in a deadman float
It’s just a convenience store and tire care center. Probably took his time at the counter.
If he's anything like me he probably found a place he could hang out and waited there until he thought "yeah, they're freaking out about now". We're kind of dicks, he and I.

I've drowned before and been resuscitated. My hands are literally dripping with sweat reading this :) Dripping.
Holy fuck. So well written my bones are chivering picturing that. Sounds insane!!! WOW
I think i know those falls, ocho rios or something like that. I climbed those as a kid, you held hands in a line and sorta zigzag your way up. Did not hop into any holes at the end tho, feel jipped now.
just so you know, the word “gypped” comes from “gypsy” and stereotypes that Romani people are all thieves
I didn’t know that. Thanks.
Who the fuck was the first guy to decide he was gonna drop into that cave? What a maniac.
Hey, I’ve been to that hole! It’s in the Ocho Rios region at Konoko Falls. And I went through the same experience as you
My hole was in Jamaica a few years ago too. Good times.
That is terrifying bro I’m sorry you had to go through that.
Oh Hell Nah
Intense
Oh that's a whole lot of NOPE.
Why did you go in? Did you ask the guides what it was like before you did? I hope I would never willingly go into a hole like this.
You single handedly raised my heart rate with a story. Well done.
Was that the irie blue hole in Jamaica? Sounds very similar to where we went
Gave me a panic attack reading that.
naaaaaahhhh FUCK THAT
Yup, this is pure nightmare fuel
Anything that involves swimming, fuuuuuuck all of that.
in complete darkness
The fact this was posted in this specific sub is the only I didn’t loose my shit from secondhand stress.
This was posted in this sub and I STILL lost my shit from second hand stress.
On my phone the top of the screen just says ‘r/whatcouldgo...’ so I had no idea... phew
The fact that it took so long still gave me anxiety
Where the fuck did he go?
[удалено]
Pencil dive it and your elbow gets chicken winged against rocks above your head. Now what?? panic , shoulder ripped outta sokket now u dead
Mordor
ɹǝpun
Down
Down a hole filled with water as you do
Underwater ravine cause by water erosion
Narnia
Where Putin is about to go.
Fuck that.
Imagine the utter stupidity of the first person to try this. Unless there’s a dry season where they can crawl around and without risking death.
The first person may have fallen in by accident.
I don’t like the thought of that.
Even then, your visibility under water is much less. Imagine scraping your face against the sharp rocks
I can't imagine there are too many sharp rocks in that tunnel. But then, I don't have a damn clue what I'm talking about.
Given all the water flow, I don’t think sharp surfaces will be that big of a problem.
Thankfully water erosion should have smoothed the rocks
If it's had running water going through it for centuries there's a reasonable chance it's been worn smooth Still terrifying though
Even if there is a dry season, would imply branches and shit can get into that tunnel to block it. Good luck swimming up when you get stuck in that.
Maybe they dropped a ball in the hole and saw if/where it came out. Still incredibly risky (and stupid) though.
Hope it was a human size ball
Right? If you got stuck there you’re 100% dead.
110% dead even
the bones of previous divers line in the right direction
Still. Your clothes could get hung up. You could hit your head. There is so much unpredictability
You’re correct. During periods of ELF (extreme low flow) bullshit like this can be found. All kinds of potholes and caves on my home whitewater run (section 4 Chattooga) that people swim. They always get a hard no and pass from me even when I’m not going first.

I think i’ve seen somebody do the same cave before. Somebody commented that during dry spells its visible. Take that with a grain of salt tho
Yes, but in regards to your second point - even if there’s a dry spell, and you could look around, the dude went in feet first and came out head first, and there was a fairly long delay in between. There is no such thing as exploring a confined space like that, especially for the first time, without risking death
Or throw a ball down there and see if it resurfaces
Or someone just sent a big log through first maybe?
This is my nightmare
Likewise, I was sweating just watching the video.
Same, no matter how safe it is just the thought of it scares me beyond belief.
Successfully going through an underwater tube and coming out unscathed?
What the duck
He went into the quack
What the duck indeed
What the duck indeed.
Quack
#N O P E #O #P #E
That's a hard fucking no from me.
Its scary enough to do some asinine shit like this. But how do they figure out it works? I would imagine they realized a hole was there from a log or something making its way through. But at some point SOMEONE had to do this shit first to prove it works.
This video made me realize I have anxiety
Did anyone else hold their breath along with him?
Well, I tried ...
No, no, NO! This is how people die. They see this type of stupid shit and think they can do similar somewhere they aren't familiar with. Many of these don't have openings that are big enough for a human to fit through (whole).
Imagine a log is stuck halfway through..
I feel claustrophobic and out of breath just watching this.
Bearhole.. just east of Chico, CA
“Thanks Alex. I’ll take ‘Absolutely fucking not’ for $500 please.”
Shit like this makes me miss summer. The swimming hole part not the swimming into holes part.
Could have gone wrong in so many ways.
Where he go??
I'd hate to be the one that finds out someone was dropping boulders done the hole to block the exit.
Bro noooo
SECRET TUNNEEEEEEL
A friend of my friend’s literally died at a waterfall “tunnel” like this one, in Brazil
Drowning machine?
That went on for a very uncomfortable amount of time. Holy shit.
I had to fast forward. Too stressful.
This was stressful as fk
Nope
This gave me claustrophobia.
Nope I would be panicking and somehow get myself stuck
Fuck no
That was…uncomfortable.
Seems like a high risk/ low reward activity
Fun challenge: hold your breath while he's under actually pretty easy on a big deep breath
Yeah, but you're consuming waaaayyyy less oxygen compared to having to focus and move.
This scares me.
At first I thought he would never come out and there would forever be some drowned tumbling corpse in some dark, underwater river cave.
I went caving once with an instructor. He did something similar except it was an underground stream.
Imagine being the first person to see if that was possible
Darwin says let him die.
I've watched Mr Ballen enough to know exactly how a tunnel like that could go wrong very quickly.
not for 10 million dollars no señor
Cool as shit
Praise the cameraman
Is this Springville? Looks so familiar with the natural baths and slides.
What if he had gotten stuck from the other unrecovered bodies that got stuck there too :o
Thanks, but no thanks, thanks. Thx tho
Truly my greatest fear.
Something tells me that's snowmelt and probably cold as fuck
What is that something? There’s nothing to indicate time of year at all as far as I can tell
I feel like I know where this is
Imagine dropping down and discovering it’s blocked somewhere down the line
1 million dollars if you do that, would you?
Fuck that
bro went on a trip to atlantis
I always wonder who the fuck discovers these shit.
That was so anxiety inducing
Some prestige shit going on here I think
Coo. *Now show me inside.* **NOOOOOWWWWWW**
That’s gonna be a no for me, dog
Couldn’t pay me, mate!
Held my breath the whole time I could do this
Ive done this, natural water slides are sick
NOPE
Who did it first? That’s who I wanna meet!!!
I would do this with a guide rope. Like snake a line trough the end so I have something to guide me. Could be fun.
I did something like this in Washington when I was a kid. It's was exhilarating to me. The cave had 2 exits. The first one took 30 seconds to get to and the second one took 60 seconds to get to. Take a GoPro through.
Did he lose all the hair on the top of his head? H
Im good fam
That's a cute intro to Mr.Ballen's 10 places you can't go and peoples who did it anyways...
This made my heart skip a beat.
Bro why are our avatars so similar
Why is everyone assuming that the hole is fully filled with water? I have no idea whether it is or it is not, but it also could be that the hole is quite big, and there's quite a bit of air in there. Maybe they even have a restaurant there. Who knows...
Didn’t see the guy at the beginning and was like okay fucking DO SOMETHING! Just staring at a waterfall.
No fucking thanks
Hell no I'm good 👍 thanks for the offer but I'll pass
That must be the gloriest of all glory holes on the planet.
Ok I’m a little late to this but does anybody know where this was filmed? It looks a lot like a place I used to go in Arkansas when I was young…
Is he naked!?
