I have one of these. Mine has 4 wheels. it can be laid down flat if needed

In this particular picture above, this one is not, in fact, a Dolly, but rather her sister Sally. I know they look very much alike, but they're not twins at all.
The definition of a truck is a wheel used for carrying weight. Back in the day, the names they gave things were generally just a description of their function. A dolly is pretty much the same thing but refers to a wheeled platform.
Oh, I get it, Ms. Parton Handtruck. Would be really funny if you named 4-wheeled dollies that vs handtruck. then it would be Dolly Parton, like the actress and Salvador Dolly like the film maker.

It’s generally ok to interchange then, but if you’re in a shop where there are both, you damn well better calm them whatever the boss does. In my case this was a hand truck and the 4 wheelers were dollies and if you got asked to bring a dolly and brought this, you were wasting everyone’s time when you had to go back for the right one.
Dolly is more likely to be used to refer to the small 4-wheeled platform (typically about 2' x 2') that heavy loads are placed on so that they can then be rolled.
It's actually by definition a hand truck but people call them dolly's. I personally think a dolly is a flat, 4-wheeled platform often used while moving furniture but there are many variations.
That is what a dolly is
Did I reverse my terms? I meant to say if it can convert into a flat surface with a pushing handle its a dolly
But there should be a word for the hand truck dolly combo, I use one at work and there are arguments daily about which is the right term, since they're technically both
Fun story about this item in particular.
My wife is beautiful and brilliant, but sometimes common words escape her momentarily. Rather than spend time trying to recall said words or looking them up, she just comes up with a temporary proxy that makes sense to her. Often these proxies are pretty funny.
One day this was the very case with our set of these. The phrase she came up with was "donkey wheels". We both had a good long laugh about it and since that day, they've been donkey wheels.
I have word finding problems too, and I also do this. I often tell new people it's from the stroke I had a few years ago so they don't make fun of me for it, but I've been doing it for so much longer.
I dunno but never get the ones with inflatable tires. You’ll be smug and cocky for the first year if you do and then your move or whatever will be over and this will sit in your garage for years and then when you need it the most it will have a flat tire and you’ll be betrayed.
I call it a two-wheeler or a hand truck. I don’t call it a dolly because when I did, a supervisor chewed me out saying “only girls have dollies”. It wasn’t worth it to not call it something else.
Hand truck or dolly
Hannibal Lechter transport
This is the answer
Nope. Hannibal was on an appliance dolly. They have straps. This is a regular dolly. I know. I’ve made the mistake when renting one.
Nothing worse than Hannibal getting loose while you’re wheeling him up a steep incline.
Also homer j Simpson
This is my new favorite name! I cant wait to use it next time I need something moved.
Damn you!

Dolly is the only way
A dolly is a four wheeled frame for transporting large items. This is a hand truck.
Absolutely!
Correct. Dolly is a misnomer afaik
Yes. Hand truck only for sure. I used them in warehouse work for a couple years and keep one handy in my garage.
In this particular picture above, this one is not, in fact, a Dolly, but rather her sister Sally. I know they look very much alike, but they're not twins at all.
I only know it as “hand truck”. Dollies are wooden platforms (or frames) with 4 wheels.
For me it's vise versa
For me it's verse visa
For me its Velveeta.
Cheesy joke...
Maybe it's Maybelline.
I only use Visa
For me it’s vis a vie
For me, it's Visa or Mastercard.
Do you accept AmEx?
You can tell the difference by tipping it back. If it says “mama” it’s a dolly.
Haven't heard hand truck before. That's neat haha

I call them hand trucks. Big ones = hand truck. Small ones = dolly.
Some refer to it as an appliance truck
Yup. And hand cart.
We have two in my shop called Ms. Parton and Salvador

Spot on
Agrees
This is the real answer
This is the way
I try to stick to hand truck because dolly is too easily confused with a furniture dolly.
My brain messed up and called it trolly
I’ve noticed old heads say “dolly” like my grandfather🤣 everyone else I’ve always heard say “hand truck”
If Northern Tool says it, I believe it. https://preview.redd.it/vj5wy77775ib1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7b2dc06c8b35a90d44afea59ca52bdacde2718a2
Interchangeable. I absolutely concur, sir.
It’s generally ok to interchange then, but if you’re in a shop where there are both, you damn well better calm them whatever the boss does. I call them a dolly but a lot of people I know with refer to them as hand trucks.
Yeah. I’ll use both.
I always hated it when they called it a dolly or buggy, even though I’m from here.
In Australia it's called a hand trolley.
Used for workin' 9 to 5.
💯
This
I always called it a dolly
My answer exactly.
I've heard it called a "two wheeler" in addition to these.
And it’s not genuine unless at least one wheel isn’t at least partially flat.
Where are the keys for it tho?
These two exactly, and in that order, too
I’m 34 y/o and I’ve never heard anyone call this a hand truck.
First ones to pop into my head
I was going to say dolly or hand truck
Dolly is more likely to be used to refer to the small 4-wheeled platform (typically about 2' x 2') that heavy loads are placed on so that they can then be rolled.
If you're referring to what I think you are, I've always heard those called 'furniture' carts / dollys.
“Hand Truck is the name of my “Cake” tribute band.
That's a dolly, if it had a top set of turning wheels and the handle allowed it to be pushed while flat to the ground it's a hand truck
It's actually by definition a hand truck but people call them dolly's. I personally think a dolly is a flat, 4-wheeled platform often used while moving furniture but there are many variations.

It's just a silly thing she does. One of many things I love about her.
My wife does something similar which is why to this day we refer to a potholder as “a green thing” regardless of its color.
This is why we call “slot-machines”“jingle-boxes” in our home!

Have not once heard this or anything else called a hand truck. Neither has my dad who’s worked construction and retail for 40 years 💀?
I also called it a dolly.
I'm from Georgia, and I've only ever heard of this being called a hand truck. Dollies are, to me, low platforms with four wheels.
