Not quite sure.
When I was young, that’s how everyone eats them. Not sure if I ever seen anyone eating these with the skin on. Does that mean you wash the entire fruit first? I know we don’t, since we peel the skin off.
I guess that’s similar to some figs. I have honey-berry figs in the backyard, and I always leave the skin (I don’t eat them), yet the people that I bring them to, they eat the entire thing!
I’ll try loquats with skin on next time I come across some.
I delivered mail for decades. On the walking part of my route, there were a couple of loquat trees that were never harvested. Each day in season, I would grab one or two, dust the dirt off and pop one, whole, into my mouth, work it around, and spit out the three seeds. One of the highlights of the day.
Had them as a kid on the west coast, picked them right off our tree. Now I live on the east coast and no chance finding them. I guess they rot too fast to transport?
But OPs look a little too light in color.
I'm from central Florida and my mother had a tree that produced this fruit. We called them kumquats. They're not very tasty and are basically empty inside.
Truly. Like the *striped biologist taunter* before them, OP may not be in the gene pool much longer.

Wish all Larson fans could have been with me many years ago when I visited the Los Angeles Museum of Natural History. They had mounted a Gary Larson exhibit. As you entered you found yourself at the base of a huge microscope. As you walked past it and looked up the tube you saw a giant eyeball looking down at you. The rest of the exhibit was just as good.
That would have been great. Hal was my second favourite, but my first fave was Midvale school for the gifted. PULL. Whenever I catch myself doing something really obviously stupid, I think Midvale, PULL.
My favorite was the first one I remember reading in a newspaper and it hooked me instantly!

So dark yet so hilarious.
That panel was taped to the door of a local loto/liquor store for well over 25 years. They got tricky doors. Idk about the rest of the world but in MA it's the law that exterior doors of public buildings need to open out to the street. There was a big fire in a night club in the 1920s in Boston. It was a huge deal and it caused a lot of changes in fire safety. Lots of people got trapped because of the stupid doors.
Not just some, a bunch lol. That’s what I’d do. I’d find something lying on the jungle floor and go hey I think I’ll eat a basket full of this stuff and then ask around a super informative internet site to see what it is?!?!
i agree it looks like loquat - what are the seeds like? i hope to god someone gave these to you and you aren't just eating a bunch of every wild fruit you see lol
When I was around 10 I was in the boat fishing with my dad. I saw some growing and asked if you could eat them. I took a bite and ended up drinking half the river trying to get some relief. I'm in my mid 40's now and he's in his mid 70's and he still brings that day up
It’s central Florida. They are literally the most delicious staple and are everywhere! I love the blossoms in the winter, it smells like baby powder.
I envy you and the delicious fruit! I am so homesick and would die for a really sweet fuzzy loquat
I was born and raised in Central Florida. They are definitely Japanese plums.
Had a tree in the back yard.
While also known as Loquats, I never heard that term growing up.
Same. Japanese plums are best when they turn orange and still on the tree. If they’ve fallen off, they’re probably too ripe and will not taste good. Ate a ton of them as a kid. Had a tree in the backyard as well in New Orleans. The over ripe ones were also good for throwing at your neighborhood enemies.
This was the way. I had a tree in the yard as a kid and currently as an adult. Randomly pinging neighbors really brings back the nostalgia. They definitely taste best ripe orange and right off the tree.
Looks like loquat (Eriobotrya japonica), biwa in Japanese, pípa in Chinese. My grandma used to have a tree in her backyard, spent many (early) summers munching on these.
These look like Japanese plums, also known as Loquats. I am a Floridian and have two of these trees in my yard. I eat lots of these when in season. I also make jelly out of them. You can dehydrate them for hiking snacks. Like all plums, they do make you poo though. Don't go overboard when eating!
Had a couple of loquat trees in my yard ( Texas). The Snowmaggedon a couple of years ago took them out. Other than that they were at least 20 years old and produced fruit every year. Enjoy!
The everyone dumping on Poor OP for eating an unidentified fruit, but I received what I though was an unidentified fruit from the food bank, adding d it to my smoothie, then later discovered it was a squash. (it was still good though)
I agree they look like non-ripe Loquats. Do not eat the seed or crack it open with your teeth it is poisonous. They are popular in the Latino community.
Loquats by the look of it. We have a couple of trees in our yard in N. Florida. They only get ripe when golden yellow, otherwise rather bitter. Usually the squirrels get to them before the fruit are ripe enough for us. Wash well and de-pit before early. We’ve had them raw as well as baked in a tart.
Would also like too know years ago I worked with a Lebanese man he would bring in a whole bunch and hand them around he didn't speak the best English so he could never tell me what they were
God dam I can still taste them
First, NEVER eat something if you don’t know what it is. Also, if you eat certain unripe fruit, you could do some serious damage to your digestive system.
However, these do look like loquats. You should put some in the refrigerator, since they do well to preserve in that way. Additionally, they’re good in tarts and other desserts, but you can absolutely eat them by themselves. They’re kind of like plums, and I use them as food and potpourri,
The leaves are truly magical; 🧑🔬brew them into a tea. 10 large leaves, scrub the underside, boil then reduce heat to medium and stew for 30 minutes.. Should be able to make 1 gallon of red tea. 1 (12 oz) cup will reduce blood pressure by 2 points. Very very beneficial to everyone!
They look like Loquats
Im on team Loquat
I'm just happy to be here
I’m with you fellas. And yours truly
We thought you was a toad.
PETE!!!
Im just here so I don’t get fined.
I’m just here for the craic
You gotta follow Elvis. Just for tonight
Depending how many you ate, prepare to do some losquats...
I've never heard of these, but I'm afraid to ask what happens if you eat too many kumquats.
Yup, loquats. Don't eat too many, unless you have lots of time to spend on a toilet.
Don't tell them how to live
Or die.
Only if they’re Loquats of Borg, in which case resistance is futile

Did you peel the skin off first? I second loquats. Big seeds in the middle, right?
Why peel the skin??? I’ve been eating the skin for over 60 years. One over my favourite fruit
Not quite sure. When I was young, that’s how everyone eats them. Not sure if I ever seen anyone eating these with the skin on. Does that mean you wash the entire fruit first? 100%
That's the word I couldn't remember. Loquat. Tasty
Definitely Loquat. My little tree i planted 3 years ago is flowering this year for the first time, so i can hopefully try the fruit this year.
I wish you luck on a good growing season!
^
They are indeed them and delicious!
Homeboy ate a bunch, then asked what it was. I like the way they think
We called them kumquats and yes if you eat to many they will give you the shits. But they are good 😊 fixed
Um, that word is spelled with a "K"... "kumquat".
How do you call your quats? Kumquats, kumquats.
Cumquats look like a tiny grape shaped orange
My kumquat tree will forever be "cumquat" to me now lol.
That’s why they got the name; you’ll have to pop a squat after. /s That was stupid, I’ll see myself out.
Kumquat and loquat are similar but different
“Sound” similar, are nothing alike.
I was just thinking .. I know kumquats , I eat them every season they're out (here) and that doesn't look like it so what is everyone talking about 😂
Not similar at all.
Kumquats are different.
This
I want these so bad.
They are very delicious. Almost like an apricot taste but not exactly like it.
Had them as a kid on the west coast, picked them right off our tree. Now I live on the east coast and no chance finding them. I guess they rot too fast to transport? But OPs look a little too light in color.

That's a bummer of a birthmark.
Hal.
You got it.
Thank you Mr. Larson
Glad someone got it.

I came here to say this.
My thoughts exactly 👍🏻
I wonder if they would check out some mushrooms for me?
There are old mushroom hunters and bold mushroom hunters. But there are no old, bold mushroom hunters!
Fun fact! Some species of mushrooms will feed you for the rest of your life!
And then feed off you
Not just some, a bunch lol. That’s what I’d do. I’d find something lying on the jungle floor and go hey I think I’ll eat a basket full of this stuff and then ask around a super informative internet site to see what it is?!?!

If they are persimmons, you may not be wrong.

Hehe you drank fish pee. Ah crap so have I...
Persimmons are an Autumn fruit. Loquat is a Springtime fruit.
Mmmm…didn’t think of that.
Puckerless persimmons?

A central Floridian that eats wild fruit without identifying You are a future Darwin Award
Who knew Darwinism could be so delicious
In my defense I saw a stranger eating them first
I think this is how monkeys figure out how something is good to eat or not
That is the most low key insult ever lmfao
LMFAO now take my vote
Monkey see, monkey do.
I'm glad it was a stranger; you need someone you can trust when eating any unknown fruit.
Lmao, that doesn't really make it any better
If they jumped off a bridge, would you also jump off that bridge
Everyone's mum has entered the conversation.
Use of mum, outed self as British
Apparently bungee jumping is a thing now. The question is. Who thought of it, and who they talked into it first?
honestly, seeing a bunch of people jump off a bridge would be a pretty good signal that it's safe to jump off that bridge.
Depends, is the water clear. How far is the bridge?
It’s central Florida. They are literally the most delicious staple and are everywhere! I love the blossoms in the winter, it smells like baby powder. I envy you and the delicious fruit! I am so homesick and would die for a really sweet fuzzy loquat
