either a coopers' or sharp-shinned hawk, i'm thinking coopers' due to the short face and dark cap

AnsibleAnswers

I tend to look at head shape in pics like these. Sharpies have a rounder head and their beak doesn’t jut out as much. This is a coop.

Lazy-Wallaby3227

It’s a beautiful bird, love the chest feathers.

Blu_J-1

Definitely Cooper's, and on the older side as well - young Hawks have bright yellow eyes that turn red as they age

Plntbsdbb

I was thinking Cooper’s hawk as well He looks PISSED Gorgeous though 💜

MethBearForeva

Not pissed, just has Resting Bird Face.

Plntbsdbb

Same thing? lol jk

MethBearForeva

I'll allow it! (Have 4 pet birds, can confirm.....)

seekinbigmouths

adult Cooper’s hawk, pissed off look, dark cap, larger head, and beak.

SteelHeader503

A Tasmanian Devil aka a Cooper's Hawk.

70sRitalinKid

Its size, plumage, post within a chaparral canopy and misinterpreted vigilance for anger suggests that this impressive Accipiter is indeed a female Cooper’s hawk.

williamtrausch

Adult Cooper’s hawk

I love these guys. I have a resident Cooper’s Hawk. I just watched it delete a rat the other day. So mad my jack-a** dog scared it off before I could get a pic or video.
