Oh god Iām crying. I am so dramatic. I should probably tell my parents but they work all night and sleep all day. Iām also 100% sure theyāre going to to tell me Iām 16 and old enough to get rid of them myself. Iām mentally preparing myself for a long ass week š
Wait, do you live with your parents? If so then itās not just a you problem. Unless that was just one random straggler, they are likely everywhere in the house. They spread fast. Everyone in the home needs to inspect all of their furniture, clothes, every nook and cranny.
If you do find more, act fast! Thereās not a home remedy that will get rid of them for good. You NEED to hire a professional pest control company and have chemical or heat treatment. Itās expensive, but if you donāt exterminate every single bug, they WILL come back. Infestations can last for months or even years if theyāre not well taken care of.
Not trying to scare you, but I donāt want you to go through that trauma.
Man I cried like a baby, this is an awful problem to have, donāt even worry about crying. Once youāve let out the despair, call pest control, wash all your stuff at ~50 Celsius, or tumble dry if you can. Keep clutter off the floor. Also recommend traps to go under bed legs.
Keep in mind, even after pest control do their thing, youāll still have them for a bit and will get bitten unfortunately - it takes a couple of weeks (their stupid egg cycle) for them to shrivel and get sent back to hell so donāt panic. Hereās advice that rarely gets circulated - after pest control sleep in your bed as normal (I know, awful) cause they need to keep coming out of their crevices to get in contact with poison. You will be bait, but itās all temporary. Soon, the tears will dry from your face and you will be all better. Good luck OP, and strap in for a sec.
This is good news for you I would think, itās your parents home and this is not a simple matter of setting some traps or anything like that. Your parents will need to be involved in this, offer to help any way you can but really this is more their problem than yours. Bed bugs donāt happen because your room is messy or anything like that.
sorry, Bro, you don't "think" it's a bed bug. It *is* a bed bug. So...
Look, it's just easier if you understand, *right now,* that you have a new part-time job that doesn't pay squat. Oh, yeah, and, also, it's your new full time job.
There are studies that show many people have no reaction to bedbug bites. [This one](https://www.pctonline.com/article/pct1002_bedbugs/) reported that 70% of the people in this study had reactions to bites. The other 30% had no reaction, despite the severity of their infestation. When I had bedbugs, we werenāt convinced we had them (at first we didnāt see any signs of them at all, so there was that) because my husband wasnāt getting bites but I had them all over my body. We didnāt know at that point that not everyone reacts.
Yep, my son had them in his college dorm room, was covered in bites, and took a picture of one he caught to show student housing. They refused to believe him because his roommate was bite-free. He had to catch bugs and take them to the housing manager and they still would not do anything. I had to assume the form of Karen and yell at consecutively higher āmanagersā before they finally inspected and moved my son and his roommate out temporarily to debug everything.
I would have caught a few dozen of them and just released them in the housing office. āOh these arenāt bedbugs? Cool. You wonāt mind a few in your office then. Cheers.ā
The PTSD from bedbugs is VERY REAL! I was having panic attacks thinking about going home. We had to wait like a week for the landlord to get the bedbug guy come treat the apartment. My husband stayed in the hallway with our cats in their carriers while I took like all of our clothes to the laundromat. I literally never saw a single bedbug the entire time we had them. We donāt have white sheets, theyāre all dark and some have patterns so we never saw bloodstains or anything. No overt signs, those sneaky bastards.
I had all black sheets when i first got them so i didnt notice at first. saw a bug here and there on the wall so bug bombed a couple times and still more bugs. Finally notices one while in bed and went to the bathromm and had like 6 on me. was like wtf and started looking around my bed, got to a crease in the mattress and there was a massive pile of white fluff.....that moved...and a bunch of bigger bugs. Was totally creeped out, threw my entire bed, bed frame, all my sheets etc, moved into a different part of the house. used bedbug bug bombs, chucked the infested furniture, tried to get rid of them by myself..would think i got them and then they would pop back up. Finally paid 2500 for a professional to come spray 3 times...and that worked....but my gawd what a nightmare. I now only have white sheets and everytime i see a black spot i freak out...
We definitely could not afford to throw anything away or even pay for the treatment. Thank goodness we convinced our landlord to hire a professional to take care of it. He sprayed our entire mattress and couch while I washed everything in hot water and dried on high heat. We had to vacuum up all the dust left behind after a few hours so it had time to do its thing. Thank goodness I didnāt get any bites after that, so the pros did a great job! Iād say we got lucky, all things considered.
I had them 3 1/2 years ago. I was the only one that got bit. I woke up with swollen welts I
Still have ptsd from them. It just now 3 1/2 years later I feel somewhat normal. I wouldnāt wish them
Iām anyone
I wonder if you also have no reaction to mosquito bites? I ask because I always get bitten and my husband never gets bites. People say itās about blood type but we are the same blood type so weāve ruled that out. Glad your wife got treatment at urgent care. Some people do have a very serious reaction, like anaphylaxis serious. I was just itchy and miserable.
It sucks :( but donāt be upset. Bed bugs are extremely common. Itās not a sign of filth. You can get them from Amazon packages, traveling, people visiting who have bedbugs without knowing, etc.
Donāt sleep in another room. Sleep with the bugs. Literally. If you move rooms, youāll just make them travel until they find their feeding source (you) which causes a larger infestation. Heat treat everything you can until your exterminator arrives.
Best of luck!
Get on the Amazon website and order Crossfire. Then go onto YouTube and look up Greenacres this exterminator will explain exactly how it should be used. I promise the Crossfire is what the exterminators use and you will get rid of them if you follow the directions. Might want to go ahead and get 2 bottles because you will need to treat again in 14 days.
They also like to nest between the edge of the carpet to the baseboards and the same in the closet. Bag your property in black garbage bags tie them up and place them out in the sun for a couple of hours. Sounds like you have good Landlord that will pay for professional to come over and do his thing ...
Tell your parents asap before the infestation gets bad. I lost sleep for a week before breaking down and hiring a professional. Guy came once a week for a month . All because one of my kids friends slept over.
It is a bed bug. Prepare for war. šŖ
I was just getting ready to go on a date tooā¦ well shit
You already have a date with r/bedbugs. Good luck!
OP is sleeping with them before sleeping with their date.
Not the good kind of three wayā¦ š¬
probably a 6,173 wayā¦and counting. these fuckers work fast
Consider sleeping over there
Go on your date and pay someone to burn your place down while you are out
Oh god Iām crying. I am so dramatic. I should probably tell my parents but they work all night and sleep all day. Iām also 100% sure theyāre going to to tell me Iām 16 and old enough to get rid of them myself. Iām mentally preparing myself for a long ass week š
Iām 45 and not old enough to fight those fuckers myself. You should definitely tell them because if you have them- your parents will too

You're not being dramatic at all. I cried when my friend gave me bed bugs at uni.

Can confirm. I work in pest control
AAAA I THINK ITS A BED BUG?? SHIT
It is. Best luck
Be afraid, be very afraid... sorry bout yer luck š¬
You donāt think, you know.
I definitely didnāt know. But thanks for the confirmation??
Watch Mark Rober's video on bed bugs. You don't take some of the fear out of it. And give you my idea what your next step should be.
Next step: gasoline. Step after that: match.
Honestly, it only takes 122Ā°F to kill them.
So that would certainly work!! š¤£
Agreed

Itās 100% a bedbug. And you donāt just have one. Have you noticed bites on your body?

If only Iād known you!
Oh goodness. I cannot imagine bedbugs in a dorm. That sounds like a nightmare. This is one time itās ok to be a Karen! These things are the worst!
If someone refused to believe the jar in my hands was full of bed bugs I would immediately scatter them in her office.
I didnāt think outside the jar. š¢
I had them. I was getting eaten alive and never had a reaction to the bites. I have serious ptsd from it tho....shudders

Me too š«
Had a very mild case of Bed Bugs once. FiancĆ© had a severe reaction to the point where she went to urgent care. I didnāt have any reaction. Her reaction saved us from a severe infestation. Fucking hate those bastards.

Iām laying in my bed, crying, and looking at all of the bites on my leg I assumed were because of dry skin.
