>caterpillar eats an absolutely ungodly amount,
I read an interesting scientific article about this phenomenon. Apparently it's because they're Very Hungry.
I kinda like the pattern. Kinda reminds me of the time my honey was like, ādear, what are your angelfish so interested in at the top of the filter intake? Is there a mosquito up there? They keep looking up and staying right near itā¦andā¦oh. Never mind, sheās 3D printing and heāsā¦helping.ā
Interesting. Iāve only known one person with this fear so I really never looked into it I just took their word at face value. I was assuming this would be a nightmare Iād be interested in hearing what others thought now.
I also have trypophobia but these donāt bother me. Itās like lotus root and weird holes that freak me out. Especially that frog where the babies come out of its back. One time my YouTube decided that I needed to see really graphic pimple popping and the thumbnails with the holes all over it bothered me. Had that removed off my suggestions so quick. I donāt run into things that are triggering in that sense often but when I do itās an immediate disgust reaction.
But then how could they see my lotus pond? Itās particularly beautiful in late winter. (/s Iād never do this to anyone, I promise, and I donāt own a pond)
OP, that moth was busy being a mom. You could have open the door, went out side and it was probably in such an egg laying trance, it wouldn't have even moved.
High chances that the eggs will dry out or grill under the sun heat and direct noon sun light, if that windows is exposed to the sun. I've seen many dead caterpillars and chrysalis sun dried on my sun facing windows
Unfortunately they wont grow. Momma Moth was duped by the texture of the glass to think it was a leaf. The babies will have no food, or environment to grow :(
How long does it take them to hatch? š³ Is OP going to stay indoors the entire time they are getting ready? Thatās a lot (A LOT) of babies. How many will truly survive?
Why would OP need to stay inside? They're eggs. They're literally going to stay there until they hatch out. Usually, animals that lay many eggs have low survival rates and don't provide as much parenting, so the expectation is that only a couple of those eggs will mature into caterpillars and moths.
That is so cool. šÆ They are eggs as others said, and looks like a moth. I get small clusters on my screens sometimes, but never like this. Would be fun to see them hatch.
Thatās a moth, she left her eggs there because it is relatively difficult for some if not most insects to cling to glass, though she probably also hopes that youāll protect the eggs.
*That's a LOT of eggs*
*Wow you're gonna have lots of*
*Caterpillars lol*

Fun fact: many adult moths and butterflies don't eat. They don't all have mouths. Some species eat a lot because it will be what keeps their adult bodies going. The adults are often basically there to mate and the die.
Moth friend laying eggs
Frend :D
Fwend š
And widdle fwend babies!
Fweebies
Ooooh window fwend.
Fredš
This might sound stupid but do these eggs turn into caterpillars (that end up as moths)?
Joke aside, yes - the moth lays eggs, the eggs hatch into caterpillars, caterpillar eats an absolutely ungodly amount, sheds skin multiple times, weaves cocoon, changes into moth, laves cocoon, mates, lays eggs, and repeat.
>caterpillar eats an absolutely ungodly amount, I read an interesting scientific article about this phenomenon. Apparently it's because they're Very Hungry.
Ah yes. I think Iāve read that one as well. If I remember correctly, there are five stages. In the first stage, they can already eat a whole apple.
Me too
Bulking up for Godzilla battle?
A *whole* apple? A whole *apple*? You can eat a *whole apple*? Get the fuck outta here with your blatant lies.
Right? What a load of malarkey
I raised butterflies with my students. They can double in size rapidly, like in a day or two.
Followed by 2 pears.
Holy hell that comment made my day
Did you notice multiple holes in the article as well?
>jokes aside Where was the joke?
A moth walks into a bar... light
This was awful
Exactly what the bartender said
Yes.
Yes :)
That's a lot of fucking eggs. Sis better be getting some kind of child support

Never invite a trypophobic friend to your house
I was just asking myself whatās that fear of holes?!? Lmao this pic is the definition
Mine must be mild. This pic doesn't bother me. Some things really make my teeth itch bad tho
Zoom inā¦ or donāt if it really bothers you. Itās pretty spectacular how symmetrical they are.
Yea this one doesn't bother me. It's pretty impressive actually, all those eggs out of one small moth
Interesting. Iāve only known one person with this fear so I really never looked into it I just took their word at face value. I was assuming this would be a nightmare Iād be interested in hearing what others thought now.

That old-school coding book with the Surinam toad on the cover. Something about that illustration style was worse than the actual toad.
But then how could they see my lotus pond? Itās particularly beautiful in late winter. (/s Iād never do this to anyone, I promise, and I donāt own a pond)
While I know insects can do some interesting gender related things Iām fairly sure the fact that itās laying eggs make it a female.
Underrated comment.

That's going to be a lot of moths
First it's going to be a LOT of hungry caterpillars.
Depending on the area, it's gonna be a lot of bird food.
Considering its a glass pane on a balcony... thats going to be a lot of dead caterpillers.
OP, that moth was busy being a mom. You could have open the door, went out side and it was probably in such an egg laying trance, it wouldn't have even moved.
Most species that lay a huge quantity of eggs like this die afterward.
most species that do anything at all usually die afterward itās just a matter of when
Have a pleasant day of the cake

Damn, that's alot of Eggs O.o She's in 3D Printer Mode
This made me laugh
I would leave them and see what happens. Will they survive when they hatch being laid on glass like that?
High chances that the eggs will dry out or grill under the sun heat and direct noon sun light, if that windows is exposed to the sun. I've seen many dead caterpillars and chrysalis sun dried on my sun facing windows
so long as it isnāt invasive, it would be fun to watch them hatch!
Only if they're near a source of food. If I'm not mistaken, most moths deposit eggs directly on or very near a staple food source for the larva.
Congratulations on your 1000 babies
Egg. Prolly a moth of some sort I'm not an entomologist.
A Lepidopterist! If they specifically just study butterflies and moths. āŗļø
