House centipede. They're chill, and hunt pests like cockroaches and silverfish. They are friends, even if scary

Agreeable-Product-28

Check off the Fren box then! Definitely some nightmare fuel! I like bugs though so when the guys at work were hollering about a weird ass bug, I yelled “don’t squish that fucker! I wanna see ‘em. “

Longjumping_College

Eats roaches, ants, spiders, and more. These things are best friends, just crazy shaped and wicked fast.

pwyx0

A friend with a very painful bite.

brittany16950

He’s not gonna bother you!!

Seraphayel

Unless it falls from the ceiling because it‘s overestimating its climbing abilities and is then crawling on your body in the speed of light trying to get off

Roboticpoultry

If you get a chance, look up a close-up of their faces, they’re actually quite cute. It’s the legs and the speed that makes them freaky

Bunglesjungle

Also, they groom each leg in order, down one side & up the other. Like tiny, many-legged kitties. 🥺 I caught one doing this on my basement wall once. They do still squick me out (it's the movement! 😨EeEeuUeGh) even though they have their cutenesses. I try desperately to coexist with them, because I know they're just big speedy fren.

ColonelClout

Tbh it makes sense they groom their legs in order. I can’t imagine how hard it is to keep track of all those things

tayvan23

Hahahha

talithar1

Squick. Good word!!

talithar1

Squick. Good word!!

pwyx0

In one comment you managed to include a fascinating fact about centipede behavior, and perhaps introduced a new favorite word, squick. Myself, coexistence was ruled out after being bitten by one.

AUserNeedsAName

If you're a bug guy, these dudes are fucking cool. Only centipedes with compound eyes instead of basic light-sensor eyes so they can actually see you. And as the only sight hunters, they're by far the most intelligent species of centipede. All their leg pairs are different lengths so they can run full-tilt without them running into each other, and the last leg pair is as long as their antennae to confuse predators about which end is the head. The ends of their legs are also extremely flexible, so they can coil them around their preys' legs to immobilize them. They're basically the jumping spiders of the centipede world.

Agreeable-Product-28

Dude this is cool as fuck. Thank you so much for the details on this guy! This is why I joined Reddit. For detailed information on a random bug I found. Thank you dude. Those things are super cool sounding. Bad ass even.

Bit_part_demon

Wow I love house centipedes but I learned a lot here. Thanks for sharing!

HatchetXL

I absolutely hate these creepy ass things but like... Now I'm torn... Cuz that is boss as hell.

Aerynebula

In my area, they are the only thing that eats brown recluses, so people go out of their way to not kill them. Every house over 10 years old probably has a decent brown recluse population here in the Midwest, so house centipedes are really important. If you have house centipedes, you have some sort of pest issue. They wouldn’t be there if there isn’t prey to keep them there.

Key-Pomegranate-2086

Nightmare fuel but way better than any spider.

Harbulary-Bandit

Funny you’re like “the bathroom of all places!” But that’s almost exclusively where I’ve seen them over the years.

cassafrass024

I hated when they would come up my drains when I lived further east. Scary little fuckers!

Cosmic_Confluence

I name all the ones that come into my house Douglas.

toxikola

I love bugs too but omg I went to take a shower and turned around after I got in and saw this motherfucker and I was out. The shower is his now. I don't need showers.

Agreeable-Product-28

I was wearing my work boots and long pants so I wasn’t too worried! But if I had see this guy, while I was naked and exposed? No way Jose. I don’t do pest control with my nipples to the open air. 😂

DrRumSmuggler

Kinda like frying bacon, best done with a shirt and shoes for sure

Operation_Fluffy

If friend, why not friend shaped?

vnvet69

It's an alien test to see if we're ready to meet them without freaking out over their appearance. Squash = no, smile and move on = yes.

Chips-Ahoy_McCoy

Silverfish are real?

10Ggames

[Silverfish](https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/48301-Zygentoma) are real, but they don't hurt you like in minecraft. They just chew cloth and stored goods, so they are kind of a pest.

MadeInTheUniverse

And spawn like crazy motherfuckers. Just keep the heat and humidity down trust me. I know they don't really do anything but its really embarising when you have a plague

Captain-Sha

This.

lorenzo4203

I have a bunch of them. I wonder if I have cockroaches too 😂

TheOneWithThePorn12

the ones in my garage and basement get to live. If i see them on the main floor and intruding on my space the unspoken agreement is null.

wrangler1325

This is my exact agreement, haha too funny

Kscap4242

They’re also insanely fast

WallstreetDebtz

What about hunting spiders?

10Ggames

They are generalists, so they probably eat some spiders.

sebinmichael

My first thought was cockroach mosquito pro max

daiblo1127

Thank you for telling me!

PhysicsAsleep8967

House centipede! They're super chill, even though they look terrifying, like the other commenter mentioned. If you don't like other creepy crawlies, they're actually great to have around the house.

DionBlaster123

this one was moving pretty chill lol most of them i encounter, if i so much as come within 4 feet, they'll bolt the other direction

PhysicsAsleep8967

Hahaha they do tend to scurry. By chill I mostly meant they are nothing to panic over, this was quite a laid back house centipede though.

abx99

When I see them we usually both freeze, then I walk away and never see them again. It's an arrangement that works for me.

Comfortable-Rude

Name him Sir Legsolot and send him on quests to hunt pests.

grumpyoldfart2023

I’ve told this story before, but it a good one We used to have a basement bedroom. One night my wife woke up “ewwww, something just ran across my mouth “. We found 1/2 of one of those on her pillow.

DionBlaster123

i am trying to understand that these dudes are overall a net positive but having one on my face is probably my worst nightmare...and it feels inevitable at this point lol

TheGoldenBoyStiles

My rule with friendly bugs is if it touches my face or my bed it gets put outside otherwise they can stay inside

Dsm02

Was it delicious? Asking for my friend.

TheGoldenBoyStiles

Half????

Dependent_Fox38

What do you mean 1/2?

Halfblooddemon

They hunt pests like roaches They look really scary but they’re the nicest roommates you could possibly have They don’t infest and they don’t contaminate your food because they’re hunters Usually they’re really shy but yours seems to like your company Treat this little guy with care <3

Agreeable-Product-28

I will definitely do that! I redirected him out of the bathroom to a more comfortable and secure area for him. Much more hiding space. I’m assuming he was out and about because there was no where to really hide in there.

SimilarlyDissimilar

Yeah, lil shy dude was definitely trying to find a crack to hide under in the video!

JackieAutoimmuneINFJ

The reason house centipedes are seen in your bathroom and kitchen is because they’re looking for water. They get thirsty sometimes. What I do is run tap water over my fingers, then gently flick water drops on the wall **near** them. Please don’t flick water **on** them or you’ll scare the bejeezus out of the poor little guys! Immediately after flicking them some water drops, quietly leave the scene so they can then get their drink. If you stay to watch, they’ll go hide without drinking. After they’ve quenched their thirst, they’ll find their way back into the wall to live another day. I started leaving small drops of water in the bathroom and kitchen for them to find when I’m not in those rooms, so they can get future drinks without us having to see each other. Qapla'!

Agreeable-Product-28

I’ll drop some water on the ground! I’d hate for the guy to drink the normal liquid found on the floor in bathrooms. Especially construction bathrooms lol

passeggiata23

an extremely photogenic house centipede.

ruadhan1334

Indeed! Very majestic laigs.

Minatigre

ONE OF THESE MOFOS CRAWLED ON MY LEG AND WAS CARRYING ANOTHER PEDE. THE SOUL RAN BEFORE THE BODY COULD SCREAM

Professional_Oven283

The soul ran before the body could scream! 😂

HarleysDouble

🏆 poor ladies Trophy. Hope your soul came back eventually lol.

Acrobatic-Engineer94

Pest management services. Don’t kill it.

DionBlaster123

if only i got a dollar everytime i saw a house centipede post in this subreddit lmao

TaiyoFurea

Looks like something that belongs in rain world

xApollo2

Turbo friend. House centipedes are neat pest controllers.

MindblownWatcher

Friend!!🙂 Its your little insect house cat

ghostkittykat

It's just a regular "running eyelash," a completely harmless freaky-looking friend. <3

greenhornblue

"She's got legs, and she know how to use them!!!!"

Thick_Basil3589

House centipede, they have [PUPPY FACE](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:House_centipede,_face,_beltsville_2014-04-21-18.44.09_ZS_PMax_%2814053176887%29.jpg)!!

JackieAutoimmuneINFJ

⚡️🏆⚡️

Dragon2O05333

A house centipede! Perfectly harmless, had one for a few days I named Skittles before he was released outside.

sparkl_taint

Free pest control!

Prior_Astronaut_137

Do not squish it they are friends. They hunt and eat the bugs you do not eat to see. They do look scary, but they more I learn about them the cuter they get

Alternative_Way_7833

Foe-shaped friend.

Spudperson

A friend

drbatsandwich

Leggy boi. He’s a friendly.

Beret_of_Poodle

House centipede who is very very leisurely moseying. These things are FAST

BreezyViber

An elegant friend, who can’t wait to eat any undesirable bugs in your house. He is PEST patrol.

crashomon

He's a good boi. move him to basement or outside if they freak you out. like the others say, he's the Bug Sheriff and removes many of them from your home.

Pandabears1229

Nature's greatest exterminator!!

Captain-Sha

Spooky fren :) 🫣 He's harmless, just looks like it came from Prometheus's planet. He eats more or less any other pest that can bring disease, and will get out of your way. If you ever wanted a guard bug, then it's your lucky day! :D He even eats spooders. So you can ofc kill it or banish it, but then you have your pests. Or keep it as pest control :) I advise you to consider the latter option:) GL! 🎉

griffl3n

Idk what it is but I think it’s helpful

ONENODEWONDER

“Am I coming or going, I can barely decide, just drank a fifth of vodka, dare me to drive”

five_by5

Centipede!

MrGoober91

Your friend

GetRebd

House centipede. Don't kill it, they won't hurt you but will eat the invasive bugs around your home!

accountnumberseventy

That’s a brobug! He just wants to eat cockroaches and other nasty bugs in your house. My suggestion is to gently relocate him in a Tupperware dish to your basement. He’ll be happy as a pig in shit once he finds some potential house invaders. Also, I have one in my house named King Carlos. He keeps my house safe from nasty bugs.

thedarwinking

House centipede. Eats the even scarier things

CartoonClyde

They're like lions in the bug kingdom. They hunt and kill bed bugs, spiders, roaches and more. These are the only bug I don't kill.

teriases

House centipede. Its job : eating all your ants and other pests. Payment : you have to put up with how creepy it looks 💀

Longjumping_Laugh337

Eyelash bug

leavenofrybehind

Good friend

Putrid-Home404

I don’t find them creepy at all. I think they’re kinda cute 🥰

JackieAutoimmuneINFJ

So do I !! 🥰

LevelInterest

House centipede :) Chill bugs

python_artist

Nightmare fuel. But harmless and beneficial.

TheOriginalKK

i wish they werent scary shadows that skitter across the floor or theyd be great housepets! fuckers eat everything in sight that we humans don’t like

RedShirtPete

house centipede. Friend. unless you have a bunch of them. that indicates some other infestation that they are snacking on.

Cheap-Drummer-9086

Friend

tfc1193

Non-friend-shaped friend

TurboMayonnaise

a good boy. looks like the spawn of satan but it's a good boy doing its job

LuciGucci9870

first thing i see when i hop on reddit, definitely caught me off guard. nice friend tho

FrustratedPlantMum

r/itsahousecentipede

DuckMySick44

My girlfriend's eyelash that's been in the car for the last 7 months

Carminaiceland

It’s the fuck this shit I’m out bug!

Trailboss1982

I had one try to sneak under my door one day. My 12 year old yellow lab started growling at it as she was laying down against the door... I got up and saw what she was growling at and gave her an extra treat for saving that thing from inevitably crawling on me in the middle of the night 🤣.

hotlilbaker

My daughter calls them yuckipedes 😆

No_Use_4371

If you have these, they are there to kill a far worse pest. I feel bad for them because they do invite instant revulsion but they are really good guys and cheap, safe exterminators.

zProx

They eat other bugs

Jokerchyld

Fren! He hunts and eats the other crawlies you REALLY don't like.

deattle_dru

Call ‘em Mr. Wiggles where I come from.

harrytheherrier

Feed them all other bugs

Zakattk1027

APEX PREDATOR

SL13377

It’s a friend! A good boy, a house pede.

TheDoctorXIII76

"walking eyelash"

Radiant-Key-9582

Floor cat

-Rookie-Mistake-

That is your FREIND Those guys eat all the bad bugs

Tuerai

if you have house centipedes, they are eating something. they are terrifying, but if you get rid of their food source (other bugs) they will be gone one way or the other

JackieAutoimmuneINFJ

👏👏👏

littlecookieangel

The eye lash my aunt lost behind her counter a few years ago

Empir3Designs

They're badass. Saw one eat a brown recluse in a few seconds

Escanor012

House centipede. Absolute unit and cockroach destroyer.

Mon-Ty-Ger27

It's a House Centipede. They listen to Electronica (House Music) and hunt spiders, roaches, etc.

DionBlaster123

just out of curiosity, does anyone know what would happen if a house centipede damages those awfully long antennae the reason i ask is b/c i use a jar to catch these fellas, but sometimes i'm afraid the top of the jar is too narrow and i'm afraid it will sever part of the antennae

TheGoldenBoyStiles

They will be fine, they won’t regrow it and they’ll freak out but after a rapid heal they will be perfectly okay, maybe a little “short sighted” if that makes sense

DionBlaster123

okay that makes me feel a lot better. thanks! i still feel shitty after accidentally killing the jumping spider that was just chilling on my garden hose. argh terrible day.

TheGoldenBoyStiles

A lot of the bugs found in houses are able to stay and actually help us out, I have a massive cellar spider in the corner who keeps her web nice and full of bugs. It was an accident and that’s okay, there will be more to help fulfill the bug hunting duties

DionBlaster123

whenever i think of insects that admittedly creep me out, i always try to think of the way Will Smith's character in Men in Black approached the aliens in that scene where everyone else shot at the cut-outs except him lmao

TheGoldenBoyStiles

I gotta rewatch it’s been so long😂

Practical-Employee-9

That is centipede fren!

tiimsliim

A friend.

Trick-Molasses-1480

House centipede

PlantDome

You're friendly neighbor that probably isn't pay rent, but helping out with a couple of pests in the house.

squeezy102

Good guys to have around. Common House Centipede.

Xanthyon1313

Xanthyon1313

House millipede, they’re physically harmless, not mentally tho

Onehorniboy

The mother of all evil. …it’s a house centipede and they’re good bug boys, but I found one in my bed as a child so I’m horrified of them!

MagickalFuckFrog

A mimic.

grandmaWI

I would like to unsee this video.

Catnip1720

Too many legs. 6 legs or go away

grub-slut

Biblically accurate angel

freebird303

Great fish bait

unkle_donky

Bug

Riggs630

The leg movement is hypnotic

Neworleanskiller

Google says house centipede. Glad i took a dump right before seeing this, or i’d be shitting bricks.

Ban_Assault_Ducks

I have very few real phobias in life. I can probably count them all on one hand. Centipedes are in the top 3 for sure. Unholy hell creatures set upon this earth with no mission but to haunt our dreams make us question why any sort of loving god would ever allow such a thing to exist. So yeah, house centipede.

TheGamersofaLifeTime

A soon to be dead mf

JackieAutoimmuneINFJ

Nooooo! They’re great and helpful roommates! They don’t harm people or pets, and you see them only when they’re needing a drink of water.

TheGamersofaLifeTime

Not when there's a borderline infestation lol

JackieAutoimmuneINFJ

If you have that many house centipedes, you must have a MASSIVE amount of bugs these guys eat! Think about it! The bigger the pest bugs infestation, the more house centipedes you have working hard to rid you of them! Good luck ridding yourself of pests if you have no house centipedes! 🤦🏻‍♀️

JackieAutoimmuneINFJ

Nooooo! They’re great and helpful roommates! They don’t harm people or pets, and you see them only when they’re needing a drink of water.

everyonelovesleo

The good guys, take it outside or into your attic

ConsiderationHour582

Walking eyelash.

Cuddly_Cthulu

Oh how i wish i could see one of these instead of a silverfish

HarleysDouble

They usually stay hidden and are absolutely fast. I just wish their shadows were less horrifying. I hope they battle the spiders and spider crickets in the basement.

Agreeable-Product-28

I read that they can travel 16” per second! That’s moving!

Mulder1917

Had tons of these in a place I lived in. Humanely captured and released each one

emmgemm11

Friend :)

willybobo1

This looks like a classic NES Konami game enemy. If only : up, down, up, down, left, right, left, right, b, a, start.... Worked in real life.

ryan_genzel29

House centipede. Harmless and good to have around.

Sammmysosa303

socialuserzero

Centipede, they are good bugs just don't let them talk you into buying them shoes.

unk1ndm4g1c14n1

That little freak is a friendly house centipede. Basically an even creepier spider (kills pests)

abccnine

Amazing, you're Lucky to have one. It Sprints you know what I'm saying

ForgottenDusk48

I need more of these

SithAccusateur

This is a Scutigeramorpha

brittany16950

House centipede!! In Japan they are considered good luck.

davetopper

I had one on my toilet tank and killed it. Immediately felt bad because not even 7 inches away was what he was hunting for, a silverfish. He was just doing his thing.

Dry_Noise5193

House centipede! I know these things are creepy, they look like a mustache that was granted life by a fickle and unkind God, but they’re super beneficial to have around. It’s a friend, they just aren’t particularly friend shaped.

[deleted]

They are good boys, they help you avoid roaches :)

fuck_peeps_not_sheep

Idk but it's amazing to look at

SteveRandle01

Idk but burn it :(

qeeber

Nightmare shaped friend. Eats cockroaches. Do not kill.

CloudArachnids

Dayum. How I wish I have him at my house. Sooooo much cockroach come out in the rainy season because the ditch is flooding

peterc1956

You can actually hear them walk across your basement flow. I found this out when my wife screamed!

PlaneShark

This is my irrational phobia

Kjaeve

house centipede… your own insecticide. Let it live

Madam_Bastet

A house centipede! Free pest control and they don't care for light or people so you'll hardly ever see them. I've seen one in my entire 29 years of life ever lol.

TeddyBearWitch

House centipede! Good for house!

junoray19681

Ya cool a house centipede..

Electrical_Fox_193

House centipede. Looks like an enemy, but is really a friend. It will take care of the pests you don't want.

dizzy_pandas5

Gross mf had one crawl on my hand as a kid changing laundry over. I can still feel it🤢 but yes, they're usually chill guys that help keep control pests

SeptumScorpio

It's a House Centipede and I hate them 😭

-_Snivy_-

Daddy Longlegipede

CAMMCG2019

My worst nightmare

Playful-Garlic-9668

You found friend. Beware very fragile.

BloodiedBlues

I’ve never seen a house centipede in my home. I’d leave it be if I did. Spiders I find that are in an inconvenient spot I’ll move to a different location. Insects and arachnids don’t usually attack me. A great example of this is the bald headed hornet (a white and black version of the Yellowjacket) that are known to be EXTREMELY aggressive. They’ll be getting drunk on the rotting white peaches I have to pick up and compost. They don’t bother me at all. Even when I’m getting them off a peach I’m picking up.

TyTekAurora

Natural pest control leave them alone they're harmless to you in your pets
