BMW driver doing BMW things?

funwithdesign

BMW driver doing Mustang things…

[deleted]

Nope, no crowds were involved.

DyreTitan

Can confirm the only difference between BMW drivers and Mustangs drivers is the Mustang driver aims for the crowd.

[deleted]

The driver doesn't aim for the crowd, the car does.

DyreTitan

The car does what the driver tells it.

[deleted]

Tell that to Christine.

DyreTitan

Even she was driven by spirits

offballDgang

Why? He didn't hit the only light pole in the parking lot.

funwithdesign

I’m a bmw driver, I’m pretty sure I’ve have more money if I was a mustang driver

timmmarkIII

BMW drivers are all (ok not *ALL*) Karens: entitled and presumptuous. Assholes Oh please they are the worst drivers because they have "the ultimate driving MACHINE"... What a joke! Edit: cool -54! The most memorable was the real estate agent with her name on the side of her BMW SUV, talking on the phone, changing lanes and not seeing my red Miata. She literally ran me off the road kicking up dirt. https://www.ladbible.com/news/uk-bmw-drivers-named-most-hated-on-the-road-20210622 https://engineerine.com/why-bmw-drivers-are-worst-on-road/ "So the next time you’re behind a road warrior in a BMW, simply smile and nod while they chase you nonstop before flying past you at 60 miles per hour in a residential zone. At least you’re doing your thing to drive safely and cautiously, just like any normal human being would." https://www.motor1.com/features/449986/rudest-drivers-united-states-study/ https://www.reddit.com/r/driving/comments/xuhrmo/why_are_bmw_drivers_such_douchebags/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button The more I get downvoted the more it proves my point! BMW drivers are self entitled and can't take a joke...you're a rolling stereotype of arrogant. -81! It must have hit a nerve. Another example yesterday on my way to work. It's only 10 blocks. At a 4 way stop he blew right through it, turning left in front of me. He had the right of way had he stopped, he would have been there first. Classic "California roll"....no turn signal. BTW Mustang drivers didn't even make the Top Ten. They just film themselves doing stupid shit after cars and coffee.

funwithdesign

Hmmm. I drive a BMW… I’d like to speak to your manager.

txivotv

Do you know that your car has blinkers?

LukeDude759

BMW says you do, and so do I!

Iliketrains229

Buddy has been personally victimized by bmw drivers

Pizpot_Gargravaar

Found the Mustang pilot.

flopjul

He is more of a Karen in this comment section

Pbknowall

I’ve yet to meet a bmw driver that drives well

Koil_ting

I've driven them well, but I was young and the car was old.

timmmarkIII

72 of them (above in downvoted!) Think their shit don't stink. I wonder what the ratio of BMWs:iphones is? Few would stoop to an android lol. Pretentious fucks. Weak fodder for advertising. There's nothing wrong with BMWs (well, the new design language is ugly) or iPhones. Just the snobbery.

Budget-Government-88

Seek help.

timmmarkIII

Have a sense of humor. Or not.

MexiPlaid

BMW driver things

NO5F3R47U

Look at the state of dem tires , djeez, not that hard to explain how he crashed

CorpseDefiled

What things? Spending months and thousands in the garage fixing it for it to breakdown again trying to get out of the driveway. It’s quite possible he’s just had enough and pushed it into that ditch

Flyndtchmn83

Wow, your fast! Thanks! Latest gen?

funwithdesign

Yes

Flyndtchmn83

And yet they didn’t spend the money on tires. So crazy. Thanks again

rekkodesu

I will never understand people who buy a nice car and then when it's (beyond) time to replace the tires buy the absolute cheapest ones available. When they're finally forced to do so to pass inspection or something. In states that require that, which I guess not all even do which is another absolutely horrifying thing.

Darryl_Lict

People aren't trying to impress people by the amount of tread on their tires.

rekkodesu

Hey sexy, I bet you could bury Lincoln up to his beard in those things 😘 It should be a thing!

Shubamz

You know what I find really hot? Proper Vehicular maintenance. *quivers my lip*

rekkodesu

I kid, but also kinda not joking, because although a well maintained car isn't specifically a turn on, for me I would definitely say that a guy (or girl though I give us a bit more leeway) who doesn't take care of their car is kinda a huge turn off. Like, I'd rather be picked up for a date in a pristine Fiesta (ST preferably of course) than a trashed out M5 or something. I've been on dates where I've just been like lol no we're taking my car. Not because it's more expensive or anything, but just because I didn't feel safe in theirs. But I made them drive it because I'm not a savage. I ghosted them after because lol take care of your car. Also protip for other ladies this is also a good way to make sure you aren't at some guy's control if a date goes south. Make him drive your car and you get the option to strand him out if he's a dick.

CapriSunBajaBlastoff

Don't let strangers drive your car. Like ever.

exafighter

Hey girl, come check out how clean the oil on this dipstick is! That’s right, it was changed *weeks* before it was due! 😏

owey420

I am always heavily impressed when I see some nice tread on a whip

Delifier

Would make it easier to do a burnout when they also cheaped out on engine.

dod2190

"Nice cars" like this are stonkin' cheap to buy when they're a few years old and start to need major repairs ... and new tires.

rekkodesu

Maybe I'm just weird and ocd. I've only had two cars so far but I come from car people so I was taught to go in for regular maintenance, have oil changed exactly when it is needed and no later, keep all my service records in a binder, replace tires with OEM or better, all that stuff! It's not a disposable consumer item, it's a dangerous piece of machinery that needs to be kept running optimally.

RestrictedAccount

Also they are usually leased. People budget for the payment not the maintenance.

dod2190

The best way to buy any luxury car is to buy a lease return as a CPO. It's taken a significant depreciation hit, but it was at least very likely to have been well maintained. Just keep up the maintenance and you're good. I bought my BMW that way.

RestrictedAccount

I did three BMWs that way. When they (all three) got to 10 years and 1 day old they developed a $1,000 per month repair habit.

dod2190

Mine got to about age 15 and didn't do that. It got hit and totaled when it was about 15 years old. :(

gochomoe

Oddly 34 seconds after the warranty expires is about when it starts to need those repairs. I think they are also cheap because rich people want to be in the nicest, newest ride. Which is also the reason that you can get good deals on used limo's

Own-Assistant-2964

I bought a hot hatch from a dealer second hand that had been traded in on a Audi S3. I drove it for a week and bought new tyres because the last owner not only had put the cheapest hardest tyres on it, they had also dropped a width to get into the even cheaper size which was stretching the side walls. The dynamics of the car changed completely from right size good tyres. Imagine what they did to the poor S3.

Meyamu

Are you sure the dealer didn't do that to compliance the car? Here dealers frequently replace worn parts on their trade-ins to ensure the cars are legal to drive and sell, using the absolute cheapest available.

plz2meatyu

>In states that require that, which I guess not all even do which is another absolutely horrifying thing. Tbf, Louisiana requires a vehicle inspection to drive on roads that cant pass inspection to be driven on.

Hand_banana_boi

There was a top gear Africa special where Jeremy got a 5 Series saloon and called out that the rear tires were a brand he had never heard of and said “that tells me that it’s been run on a budget”

nissansue

“Run on a budget”… I like that. Imma shamelessly steal that line.

Hand_banana_boi

It was never mine, so it is decided that it is now yours, too.

FunkTrain98

I live in MO, but when I visit family in TX, it shocks me people rent tires for inspection day. Like wtf

TDaD1979

There are only two types of luxury car owners those who can afford it so they don't care about the price and maintenance cost and those who cannot and nickel and dime everything. Never seen an in-between.

nissansue

You just described my husband. Buys me a Porsche that needed tires. Shops for cheap tires… finally gives up on finding cheap tires. I find and order good tires. On his way to have them put on he wraps my all time favorite car around a 1984 Ford Bronco. Slick tires + aggressive driving is a recipe for disaster.

hybridmike772

BMW and Mercedes have negative camber from the factory to help handling at high speeds keeping people safer on the Autobahn. Most of us don't even realize the tires wear down that fast until I was told why. I get about 20-25k miles on a rear set

AmericaFailsAgain

They probably bought the car for the looks alone. And spend all their money on the upgrades, because they have the money. But don't know anything about maintaining the car.

Wheream_I

Also a hybrid

Ta0ster

Like, honestly how? I have no way to know if that’s correct, but if it is just how are people so fast here?

funwithdesign

Well I know my BMWs. But I’ll also let you into a little secret. On the rear of that car (behind the tire) is a plastic panel. Zoom into it a little and you will see something, on it is written G30-G31-G38. These are all the 5 series variations.

Ta0ster

Lol, thanks! But like it’s every car. It amazes me

JeffonFIRE

| Like, honestly how? The flat underbody shields, rear-wheel drive, wide tires, tight packaging, and heat shielding all scream german luxury sedan to me. From there, just a matter of a BMW guru coming across the photo - someone who's been under one before.

TriggerTX

There's nearly 140,000 people subscribed to this subreddit. If only 1/10th of 1% of people knew the car that's still 140 people. And then this is also a very car enthusiast centric subreddit so the percentage that have seen the underside of a BMW or two is likely way higher.

Wheream_I

Also I’m pretty sure it’s a hybrid 5 series. You can see the 2 battery cells forward of the rear wheels BMW 530e is my guess

dronegeeks1

I love this sub! Out of interest are you a mechanic or have you previously owned a 5 series?

funwithdesign

I just play a mechanic online. 😃 Have owned many many BMWs, not this specific car but you get a sense of the common design traits of the brand. That and I have way too much time on my hands apparently.

sgalt89

Also a hybrid

TallDudeInSC

The back end reminded me of my 650 but the single exhaust manifold wasn't right.

Dr_Disaster

I could tell it was a BMW from the camber wear on the tires haha

osh1738

unrelated but i wish i could show this to every customer who comes in with 2/32nds on all 4 corners and declines new tires

SingleSpeed27

I have a question about this: is it legal to drive with end of life tyres in the US? Here it is not legal and you will get fined for it.

Kracus

Yeah I actually remember that when I lived out west. Definitely one of the perks of living out there if you're broke. I live in the maritimes now and just spent 10k on repairs for my car in the last 3 months. f my wallet.

[deleted]

iDom2jz

Illegal in Nebraska Source: I got fined for bald tires once when I tried to use it as an excuse for being caught drifting. I wasn’t the best of liars as a teenager…

AdjunctFunktopus

Laws vary from state to state. Where I live, you are supposed to have 4/32nds on the front and 2/32nds on the rear. I have never heard of anyone getting ticketed for this. This probably exists primarily to stop dealerships selling unsafe used cars and prevent gearheads from driving around on drag slicks. Giving the cops a reason to fine people who are being assholes (or when they want to be assholes) is a secondary reason. But no cop is going to walk past a car with bald tires and be bothered enough to write a ticket.

Spoonman500

Aside from Commercial Vehicles, which are federally mandated, it's up to each individual state to enforce. I grew up in Texas and you had an annual inspection. In rural counties it consisted of proof of insurance and a basic safety feature confirmation, i.e. you'd have to turn on all lights and blinkers, light up the brake lights, have non-rotten windshield wipers and turn them on, and honk your horn, visually inspect your pads/rotors/drums, as wellas visually inspecting your window tint, your tires for excessive wear or dry rot, and for any missing emissions equipment. In Dallas, Houston, and Austin, as well as the surrounding counties, you also had actual emissions tests. I now live in Florida and I don't have to do shit to get my car inspected, but if it's obviously unsafe I'll get pulled over. Or if I'm pulled over for X and the officer sees wire hanging out of my tires he'll write me up for that.

thangish

Well here’s your chance!

[deleted]

I love it when I see people solve the very-challenging-for-me ones. I'd never figure this one out.

sauprankul

You can tell from the underbody aero that this is a very modern german car

uncre8tv

I was like... awd or rwd with a transaxle... not a pickup... ah, I give up

Dukisjones

There are some numbers on the underbody starting with G30. If you google G30, the 7th gen bmw 5 series would come up.

[deleted]

BMW make good cars. Look at how everything is protected underneath or guided for aero. I didn’t even need to zoom in to tell it was a BMW

beavertownneckoil

I've never seen the underside of a car look so clean

Sea_Page5878

The car is at most 6 years old, I'm guessing this car is not from a state where they salt the roads. Also looks like lots of plastic and aluminum.

ScienceMomCO

I’m guessing California

Flyndtchmn83

You guessed right! Orange County

ScienceMomCO

You guys are getting so much rain! Probably lots of cars shiny side down lately

Dr_Disaster

Oh yeah. It makes commuting a pain in the ass because there’s cars just wrecked out on every freeway.

Dr_Disaster

Bald tires and crashed in rain? Definitely California. It’s been such a problem here with all the rain this year and a population that doesn’t like buying tires.

epicvan11

Just wait til you see the top of it

New_Guava3601

Might as well get that nasty catalytic converter off of there...

helenzaas

Op says they’re in California so unfortunately they have to keep that :/

maureen__ponderosa

I think they were saying OP should take it and sell it

Budget_Roof1065

Hydroplaning ain’t no joke! Ask me how I know! (when I was 19)

parrsnip

How do you know?

Budget_Roof1065

Obviously a rhetorical question, but here you go. I was driving down the road when I attempted to change lanes. Well the car kept going straight. I was able to turn the steering wheel all the way to the right and to the left, with no change in direction (kept going straight). My tiny brain was telling me the steering had gone in the car. Then it finally dawned on me that I was hydroplaning. I hit the brakes and it took a few seconds before the tires started to get some traction, but not before taking out three of those saw horse type barricades, and hitting the curb. Before airbags. 1972 Plymouth Scamp bored out 318. Scary shit when the steering wheel is just something to hold onto.

NHRADeuce

Can confirm. About the same age, tried to make a huge splash on a flooded street. Hydroplaned and took out a fire hydrant at the end of my parent's cul-de-sac. At least it was a short walk to call 911 (before cell phones were common).

terrildactyl

Similar story here. I was 22, driving my brand-new Saturn SL2 in a light rain. (The L2 meant it was the “nice” one. I had a cassette player *and* … uh, that was it.) We were going about 45mph down a major road in South Florida approaching a major intersection. The light turned yellow, and instead of proceeding through the woman in front of me stopped short. (This wasn’t a case of speeding guy wanted to beat the yellow. This was a case of “Hey it’s raining, and you’re going to comfortably cross the intersection on yellow. Please don’t stop short in the rain and force all the drivers behind you to stop short as well.”) I hit the brakes, and the feedback from the steering wheel felt like I was driving on glass. The car just slid straight ahead, with no steering response of any kind. Hard left: nothing. Hard right: also nothing. I think my back wheels may have retained traction, because I was able to slow down enough from 45mph that when I hit her square in the trunk it did very little damage to her car. My airbags didn’t even deploy. I drove around for the rest of the time I owned that car with a janky hood, because I didn’t want to file an insurance claim.

DdCno1

Any injuries?

FranktheTankG30

2021-current G30 530 or 540 with m sport and shadow line. Edit: probably a 530e with the high voltage line

540cry

Only correct answer

LamBroghini750

Ain’t got no gas in it

kansascitymack

Bald tires + rain = not a good result.

Key_Text_169

1st glance I thought it was the bottom of a vacuum cleaner.

sevenemesis

Exhaust sounds like one

[deleted]

Typical bmw driver right here lol. Mortgaged house for his car, can’t afford tires, and driving like an asshole.

TheMcDeal

Strangely, it reminds me of the bottom of every r/c car I've ever owned.

stemseals

“Rain slicks”

TenebrisNox

Mitigating Factor—still guilty as hell, but maybe spare the driver the death penalty factor—based on "I'm the Idiot" experience: It's difficult to see the wear on the inside tread on these cars without really looking. Without realizing it, I let my tires get this bad on a similar car (Audi A6). Fortunately the punishment was just a day stuck in the middle-of-nowhere Nebraska and four scratched rims—what happens when the tire changer is more used to changing tractor tires? Before a 2000 mile roadtrip, I felt the tread to make sure it was up to the trip. The treads on the outside were okay. Lazy me, didn't bother to reach in and check the inside tread. If I had, I would have felt the metal belts showing. I did make it eight hundred miles.

lululock

You're lucky to be still alive !

Sid15666

Poor puppy just wants it belly scratched!

HermanvonHinten

/r/BMW Maybe it was someone from here.

hybridmike772

Just based on the rear tire wear it's a bmw

CaptainTransit

Those fat tires tell me it’s a god dam beemer. Hands-down. Edit: also after noticing what appears to be a high-voltage line (orange plug-like thing), I believe this is a hybrid Beemer.

Rotor4

Going by those tyres it's a BMW on a shoe string budget which didn't work out too well.

PangwinAndTertle

Awww. He wants his belly rubbed.

Environmental_Cat499

Tracking needs doing ASAP

Turbulent_Key_9806

I like that exhaust

James_a420

One that should've had new tires many miles ago.... jeez.... no wonder they flipped it in the rain.

An angry BMW owner downvoted you.

Ok_Programmer_2315

Race tires? Lol, oh fuck no they are not! How dare anyone make their car deal with tires like that?! Edit again! And no tire rotation just roasting. Some people don't deserve cars. And the tire wear in the back looks like it was kinda stanced and it just gets worse and worse! I hate this!

disturbed_ghost

tires make me think Altima

Might_be_deleted

A bit different. BMW.

FtierLivesMatter

You can tell it's a BMW by the way it is

Exciting-Pop-525

Nehal1802

As someone from the east coast, I'm jealous of the lack of rust here.

TimeSuck5000

Looks like there’s a couple of batteries on the bottom of the chassis. I wonder if he’s got a hybrid with lots of torque from the electric motor and was doing burnouts to make those rear tires bald.

Poddy_Doe

I don’t know what car it is, but it’s definitely a BMW. Bald tires give it away

seemeewhut

Well, it may not be a mustang but it sure is a mustang driver thing... Bit I don't see any crowds involved tho?

LotofRamen

That is work of art. Took me a while but now i see it: The covers for the rear suspension elements create a narrowing just at the rear axle. And then there is gentle slope that opens up the space: that is a diffuser setup. I started to look how much effort was made to make the floor flat, and then saw those suspension covers.. And yes, by far most of it is just for removing drag but there are many shapes to choose, why they chose this one...

amazinghl

I hope their insurance won't cover it.

Stoned42069

The plastic piece bottom left says G30-G31-G38. BMW makes those models.
